The more I think of Ultimate Mewtwo, the more I realize how much his broken airdodge from SSB4 carried that character. One simple change made a day and night difference to his disadvantage; from a character that skips disadvantage, to a character that must now feel the full pain of being a large, lightweight character.
That's the main one but the old Confusion, Teleport and Nair helped a lot in disadvantage too imo they should've only nerfed airdodge as that was unhealthy and degenerate for the game but the rest are needed because of the character archetype unless you want to gut the character
@@armandomorfin3845 Teleport got heavily buffed in Ultimate, old Confusion will only slightly buff his disadvantage, and old nair only really helps him in combo/neutral scenarios rather than disadvantage.
Mewtwo main here (both Smash 4 and Ultimate) You pretty much nailed it. Airdodge in Smash 4 carried Mewtwo HARD and removing it forces them to have to deal with their awful disadvantage state. Sure, the tail hurt box being larger is obviously an issue, but only if you're being too reckless and throwing it out when you really shouldn't and I honestly rarely encounter hurtbox issues anymore. Same can't be said about no longer being able to spam airdodge. You're gonna get comboed every game unless you never get hit directly The numerous buffs mostly everything else are nice at least (especially Shadow Ball) ^_^
@@the_bookworm8281 When I say Teleport I mostly mean the traction overall being lower to ledge cancel slightly easier, Confusion momentum is hugely underrated for the utility/landing mix ups it provided, Nair's bigger hitboxes being able to challenge other moves from juggles I feel like definitely counts as part of disadvantage
And my main character get bullied by Brawl after they replaced iconic b-down tornado to weak spitty water SMS Shihh after he was mid tier in melee but brawl one get down fall as hell
Kirby for sure.. First character that came into mind after reading the title. Everyone misses that old Kirby. I dont understand Sakurai for real... Kirby is such an iconic character in Smash and his creator does not help with it... :(
Man, what they did to Marth twice was unholy. At least in Smash 4 he blends in so well with the physics after all the buffs he got, but in Smash Ultimate, he doesn’t blend in at all. The Hero-King needs some real justice for this.
They made Ultimate into Melee but for casuals, so Marth can never be good since techniques were what made him good and they removed every universal and character specific technique in Ultimate
That's the thing, Smash Ultimate Marth and Smash 4 Roy are complete opposites. SSBU Marth is a Smash 4 character trapped in SSBU physics, while Smash 4 Roy is a SSBU character trapped in SSB4 physics.
Poor Marth, they keep nerfing tipper each installment whether directly or indirectly. Ult tipper is the most inconsistent shit in the game yet they insisted they fixed it in a patch. Instead of being rewarded for good spacing, you're only rewarded like 70% of the time.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that noticed the Kirby characters being one of best characters in their Smash debut and then one of them gets a significant nerf in the next title and has never been the same since.
Kinda surprised ICs weren't mentioned. I knwo they weren't in 4, but theyre a menace in Melee and the 2nd best in brawl behind meta knight, and then in ultimate theyre just mid.
12:30 I saw that sweat slayer lmao Ain’t no way Ryu even close to that. Maybe pre patch ultimate But hell naw They nerfed shoryu but gave him good compensation Made him actually cool unlike Ken
Commenting before watching the video: I’m 99.99% sure that 64 Kirby to Melee Kirby will be mentioned. Edit: Glad to know I was right, despite it being unfortunate for my boy.
The more I play Ult the more I realize how pointless it is to play Marth competitively (if we go by on paper). I don't understand how the development team allows Chroy to have their Jab confirms but then they remove Marth's? Then they barely fix tippers besides a few tilts and aerials, but they weren't even close to being enough. Then Sakurai gonna whip out the lame "everyone is indeed balanced" excuse from quickplay results... Like dude... no. Just no. What is so wrong with buffing Marth's actual kill moves like Down Smash and Dancing Blade? Why couldn't he get his jab confirm back during his patch notes? Why was his Fair so nerfed to the ground? It should be way better at combos with the sour spot, considering how he was in earlier games... and Cloud and Corrin get THEIR forward airs to be combo starters that deal massive damage but not Marth? Wtf? Like of course I still enjoy the character but if they don't fix him in the next game Imma riot and I may not even buy it. Once Kazuya dropped I expected Marth to get heavy buffs but of course not. I was already losing interest in Ult and my fave char not getting anything he needed to be good just makes things so much worse. Marth just needs a rework at this rate.
chrom has a jab confirm while Marth doesnt likely because Marths has two hits and chrom only has the one. You’re supposed to use both jabs with marth to send them away but with chrom you’re supposed to use the one because it was made to combo
Who edits this?? Imagine the databank of smash tournaments you need to have to find clips of every move specifically being used in tournament and knowing where to find it
Pit- from a retro pick that was exclusively that to now where his 2013 game shook Smash to its fuckin foundation. Over 100 things from 1 singular game? Thankfully it’s dead and not coming back, but still…
Kirby's an excellent example of what power creep is. Oversimplifying what makes Kirby good in 64, he was good in smash 64 because every character in that game had awful recoveries except for him and Pikachu. And Pikachu was a problem matchup for him. On top of nerfing him, he was generally just strong in things that were really strong with 64's system mechanics, like playing a solid defensive game. But then Melee has a meta revolving around fast paced characters. Its defensive characters either have excellent air speeds or solid projectiles, which Kirby has neither of. In Brawl and every game after, literally every character can recover well, which basically nails the only defining strength of the character into redundancy. That's WITHOUT mentioning the nerfs he got to everything. I'm saying that if Kirby didn't get any direct nerfs to his moves or stats from 64 (universal nerfs and system mechanics still apply), then he still would not have been nearly as oppressive.
Man they just don't know what to do with King Dedede, he had one decent presence in Brawl in part thanks to chain grab and after that he's just been chilling with Kirby at the bottom tiers. In fact a lot of "Kings" in Smash are or have been at the bottom tier, Sakurai HATES monarchies.
I feel like you understated just how bad Kirby's melee throws were. You didn't even have to mash, getting out of his forward and back throws was as simple as pressing the jump button.
The decisions made with mewtwo in ultimate didn’t make any sense. Making his whole tail a hurtbox is crazy. Smash 4 mewtwo was really good without being toxic so why nerf him into the ground on the next game?
Never played melee or brawl but smash 4 Falco was my main and man I felt so free with that character. Felt like I could do whatever I wanted, hate his ultimate version tho, but then again I just don't like ultimate
I thought Smash 4 Bayo to early Ultimate Bayo would get on the list. Bayo might be good now, but before she got buffed in patch notes, she was pretty mid.
Sakuri nerfed his characters because he don’t wanna be looking he’s showing basis. It’s like the coach who’s rougher on his own kids than the rest of the team. Well not right away anyways,
Kirby deserves a lot of changes to make him competitively viable. Hell, more references to his abilities could solve his range issues while giving him powerful new tools. I just hope he can improve from being low tier man
Mewtwo mains have to slingshot in order to manage that tail, but really a general lack of movement tech is holding him back. He actually has an absurd punish game littered with ToDs.
Surprised not to see Ryu on here, even though he's much better now especially through patches, he did get some pretty severe nerfs between 4 and launch Ultimate. Very surprised you didn't mention it once in the video.
