- Dad travels a lot for Work. Todd saw Dad pack and knows he is leaving. Todd's reaction to spending as much time doing things together is priceless.
Todd is a 7-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 53 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. So true! I do disaster response all over the US and my go bags are bright orange. When my cats see those come out they definitely know. I have to pull them out of the bags half the time. 😂

Bunny is a standard poodle, I think. Can't really tell because of Bunny's "hair cut," but Bunny is a very large dog.
I had a standard poodle mixed with English Sheepdog. This was 30 years ago.

That head tilt when he looks up at you is so precious ( while your doing belly rubs ) that in itself shows how and we can see how much Todd loves you he is soaking up all the quality time he can get before you leave love it

Todd always looks at you so adoringly. You can see the love in his gaze but it must feel amazing to hear him tell you how he feels about you. I recently lost my beloved cat Odin. It spoke to me with this actions. I wish I knew about buttons when he was young. 🐾💕

I understand as I wish I had known about these when my Bear was still here - although we were so close we could understand each other I would love to have had conversations with him like this. Just moved house but once more settled I am going to try these with my girls!

I’m still so shocked that a cat can use buttons to communicate! I’m still quite young and naive at times, and I talk to my foster cats in a sort of higher-pitched childlike voice which probably annoys them. I sometimes forget that they just want to spend time with me as much as they can but I just shut my bedroom door and spend time alone. They must think I don’t like them or don’t take them seriously :( I’m going to try and be more talkative and down to earth with them. I didn’t quite comprehend the capacity that animals have when it comes to communicating with us. I still have a lot to learn!
I think these buttons are changing the way many people think. So of their thoughts and concerns are so deep. I am learning a lot as well.
Todd is such a sweet cat, with his "I love you" and "cuddles." I can't help thinking since he knows you're leaving, he's trying to convince you to stay! "Dad, I need you to give me attention and play with me! You can't do that if you leave!"
He does hate when I leave but I think he has come to terms with it. I think now it is more he wants to get as much affection in as he can before I leave.
This is what he used to do. Telling Dad not to leave with emphatic "No"s. Now he starts with that "Bye" instead. As Dad notes, Todd has learnt to live with it and make the best of it.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks I still think he'd likely understand if you teach him that you leaving is necessary for him/all of you to have food, a house etc, but it sounds like he's accepted your recurring absences as just part of life now, even if he doesn't know why that is so.

Oh yes, I usually set aside a full hour as soon as I get home for everybody to get cuddles and pets.

Yes, they do have deep emotions. Todd shows this by his affection for me, updating me on how he feels since he knows I am concerned, and even asking for things for his housemates. He is a sweet boy and I am blessed he is with me.

You are in a unique position to observe feline consciousness and its so wonderful watching the two of you interact (not forgetting Glamour and Paulie of course ). Usually, most cat lovers have no problems understanding what their friends are saying,, but Todd's communications to you are on a higher level often involving conversation rather than simple requests for food and affection. Hopefully this is helping Todd with Dad's absences. He is able to anticipate & confirm that Dad will be leaving. He can make sure all his needs are taken care of. I noticed his requests are not only sentimental, but practical too. It's good to get in a thorough brushing before Dad goes to prevent any hairballs!
I wonder if Todd would like having a visual/physical calendar where he and Mom can mark off the days until Dad comes home? Maybe even with a treat/toy for each day like an advent calendar?
Being able to comminate has helped Todd so much, especially now that he was a decent amount of words. Prior to this Todd was so upset, he would press No and literally throw himself against the door to block it and try to keep me from opening it and leaving. I do talk to him every night through the camera and tell him how many laters until Dad is home.

Ever since I saw those buttons I’ve wanted them. Don’t have any pets right now so going to wait. So much enjoy watching Todd and other pets taking advantage of this awesome communication tool! I’m sure it was the mic and the closeness to Todd but it sure sounded like that was a rough brush. No one seemed to mind so I’m sure it was the mic. How do we know the other cats (including my own) get as much affection/play-cuddle time as they would like, the way they would like, when they don't use the buttons like Tod does?
The buttons are a great aid for that. Before the buttons I always knew when Todd wanted to play but not with what, the same with affection, I didn't know if he wanted Pets, Belly Rubs, Kisses, or Cuddles. The biggest benefit is Todd can tell me if he doesn't feel good and what hurts.

Animals understand things around them. It's too bad more of them can't learn to communicate somehow.
I hear you but a lot of them do. We just are not paying enough attention. Todd communicates very well without his buttons when we are downstairs. Glamour and Paulie also make known what they want just fine. Granted, you do have to live with them a while to learn each of their methods and meanings but they do communicate.

That was just incredibly sweet-- it was like Todd was stocking up on comfort for while you were gone. Scent must be a huge part of it, and maybe tactile memories as well. I have to wonder, now that Todd has words and a reason for differentiating his toys and other things and concepts, if he thinks differently than he did before? And if he has a concept of property?
I don't think so. I think he is just able to express it now. Before, I knew when he wanted to play but not with that toy. I knew when he wanted affection but not if it was pets, cuddles, belly rubs, or brushes.

Todd wants every last second getting loved by you when he knows you're going away again; mousey's still important, but toys can wait. He will amuse himself while you're away with something or other: but he can't get his cuddles and kisses til ur back!😿 😽Speaking of kisses; I'm afraid you neglected to show your technique. If I remember I will try to get a good kiss on camera. I honestly forget that they are there most of the time. That is what makes it good, in my opinion. This is not "For the camera" it is recording everyday life for me and Todd.

Pets must get so distraught by the sudden absence of their owner that they learn what the suitcase means very quickly. Mine certainly know what happens after a suitcase is dragged out of the closet.

He does, he does, but the channel,is about Todd using the buttons so it’s not shown. Glamour is very loud and vocalises when she wants anything, and often steps forward when Todd presses a button to make sure she gets whatever’s going first, and Paulie is never left out. Also Todd spends pretty much all of his time with Dad I think while the others do spend time downstairs with mom. Hope that answers your query. OH STUFF IT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RESPONSE TO THE PERSON WHO WAS CONCERNED AS THEY DIDNT SEE THE OTHER CATS BEING FUSSED. SORRY!

He may be smarter than you think. When I first told my wife I was ordering the buttons she said I was wasting my money because Todd was dumb. She apologized to him after he started using his board ten minutes after it was set up.
