I think he's using "mad" as a default word because he's getting irritated that he doesn't have the word he wants. He wants to ask Dylan for something, but he immediately gets irritated, the "twitchy tail" and ears back after he says Dylan and ponders for a second, then he does his loop against the scratcher to think if he can say it another way and he says, "Russell," but he still says, "Mad," because it doesn't fix the verb issue of what he WANTS from Dylan. He's getting into complex sentence building! Oh, and Billie of Billie Speaks does the same circling thing when she's thinking of a word. I didn't think that was weird because humans do that too! Watch a person talking to a group about a difficult subject and they'll usually stop, scratch their head or self soothe, pace or do a little circle while they're processing, then start talking again. I think it's a non-verbal cue to let others know that we're still working on it. And now the spinning wheel when videos are buffering makes way more sense...lol!
Yes! I had the same feeling when I watched him. He was frustrated of not being able to express what he wanted. It was something much more complex than before. It is madly impressive as Russell needs to first recognize his own "want" for something and then "name" it. Without somebody else naming it for him. But that is what I got too!

But apparently cats can just find the smell of human testosterone very loud and so they cover it up with something better - their smell. Which doesn't smell as bad to them as it does to us (or so I've read.) Of course, I can't speak for your cat. But my cat actually loves my male partner. She sits in his lap, makes squishy love eyes at him, ect. But she'll also pee on his stuff/his side of the bed/his pillow. She's NEVER peed on my stuff in 11 years. Of course - we've taken her to the vet multiple times for urinalysis, blood work, ect. I just thought you might like to hear another experience on cat urine and our male partners. xD
Sometimes cats pee on things just to show ownership. Might smell another animal, something that is offensive, or expressing emotions! You just have to know the cat to figure it out, or with words, let them tell you! But meow's, purrmeows, and tail, ear, and facial expressions tell too!
He probably wants another cat friend. Cats are generally more intelligent than dogs and being locked up in a house has them viewing us as their jailers. I now have 2 cats and while they spar a bit, they keep eachother company. @@Expressobean

The channel Billispeaks, which probably inspired them, showcases a much older cat that I consider to truly understand all the words she presses, it's truly a wonder to see her speak what she means, I'd recommend looking at their videos if you're not convinced it can be done. I, myself, would never have the patience to try something like this, but it's really cool to see other people try. I'm not expert on this kind of thing, and as I previously mentioned I've never watched this channel before, but I think their fault lies in introducing too many buttons too fast, without making sure the cat understands all the previous buttons first. It's a very long process that can take months until you have so many buttons.
When we DO connect on a verbal level with our pets...cats, dogs, etc., is it so hard to believe they REALLY ARE Meaning what they say? If so, how about more mutual Respect!!!
I'm noticing lately that his answers when he meows them are taking on the same cadence as your words. Kind of like the mimicking small children do when they are about to say their first word. I know he is not going to start speaking, I just think it's interesting that he seems to be mimicking your tone and cadence the way a small child would
Well, I said HELLO to my cat once and he repeated it back to me! 😱 He repeated it perfectly! Normally he just made a mau which sounded similar. So yes, they do mimic our sounds.
Cats can actually learn some human words. I met a cat once who used 'yes' and 'no' appropriately. They can produce some of the sounds in human languages, it's just that they don't usually connect their own vocal sounds to the abstract concepts words represent because their braind are developed more for body language, despite some cats seeming to have a very good understanding of what we are saying.
Russell is very smart! It looks like he's figured out how to get lots of attention from his people. This video is so cute. I need to get one of those fluent pet things for my boyfriend, who is awesome but doesn't always communicate well. 😀

My cat (heaven sent, RIP) was mad at me for 2 yrs to the month bc I brought home 2 stray kittens she had to babysit plus took attention away from her. They obeyed her, she was in control of the house. She ignored me & made sure to go to everyone else in front of me, she was so smart. I had a cat at the time but she hated ALL men so I let him bond with Crowley. And then I lost my girl in 2020. It’s taken 4 years to recover. Until I got Bellamy. He’s my little ball of ginger floof nuttiness. Unfortunately though…Crowley blames my husband as much as he blames me. We’ve both been attcked numerous times-like bites and scratches that leave SCARS since Bellamy joined us. In fact…the kitten is the only one he hasn’t attacked.

Idk. Our Crowley purrs the loudest and happiest when he’s ripping toys to shreds. He’s our furry fat ginger psycho. We wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s also spoiled flat rotten-and super smart. Even though they fight, it's friendl rivalry. Exotic breeds are often highly intelligent and get bored more easily.
Ever since I moved in with my boyfriend (now fiancé) three years ago, I’ve tried to get his cat Taffel to like me. I don’t approach her first, but try to let her come to me, I give her snacks, I talk to her soothingly and give her lots of compliments and help her chase off unwanted admirers. If she could talk I’m still like 99% sure all she’d say to me would be “you’re not my REAL dad”. I still love her ofc that little gremlin.

What I've noticed with my cats is any instinctive thinking they do is instantaneous but the intellectual part of their brain takes a second or two to register. When I trained my cat to sit and shake a paw I had to wait for her to think about it but training her to do a natural behavior like catch the treat or jump up on command were quick.
The cat knows that when he presses the "mad" button, the woman will go into concern-overdrive, showering him with attention. Kitty isn't necessarily actually mad.
It's just flat Amazing how realistic Boston Dynamics has gotten w/ their Robot Cats & Dogs. If I didn't Know Better, I'd almost have fallen for this, it looks so Real ! 😮

THIS. He wanted outside this morning. Then was mad Dylan hadn't taken him outside for the birdie. He went for the balcony door after mad, but was sidetracked by the pets by Momma.
He did go out on the porch with Dylan. Hannah said it probably wasn't long enough for Russ.

What I've noticed with my cats is any instinctive thinking they do is instantaneous but the intellectual part of their brain takes a second or two to register. When I trained my cat to sit and shake a paw I had to wait for her to think about it but training her to do a natural behavior like catch the treat or jump up on command were quick.

I asked my brother for some of these buttons for Christmas and he about lost his mind!! They already rule our lives and now you want to teach them to TALK!!! OUT LOUD!!! IN WORDS!!!! SOOOOO, I ordered some for myself for my birthday next week!! Now I'm training his cat behind his back to pat us on the nose when she wants some cat crack!! Our name for the Temptations Treats with the soft centers, they go mad for them!! When the buttons come, then our fun will really begin!!
