Does the Story of Abraham Contradict Itself?

  • Many critical scholars assert the account of Abraham in Genesis is hopelessly contradictory. Allegedly, there are too many duplicates to make sense of what is going on. But when we study these alleged duplicates we find they actually work together to form a coherent narrative.

    Compelling ideas here, well done! The Bible is not propositional theology it is poetry. Modern people fret over these issues unlike the ancient authors and readers. The modern solution is to chop up the story to try and solve perceived issues within the text rather than receive the text as it is.

      Isaac is a composite of several characters. One is Orion, a decan of Taurus.
      ORION was a handsome giant granted the ability to walk on water by his father Poseidon. He served King Oinopion (Oenopion) of Khios (Chios) as huntsman for a time, but was blinded and exiled from the island after raping the king's daughter Merope. Orion then travelled across the sea to Lemnos to petition the god Hephaistos (Hephaestus) for help in recovering his sight. Lending him his assistant Kedalion (Cedalion), the god directed the giant to the rising place of the sun where Helios restored his vision. Upon returning to Greece, Orion sought out Oinopion to exact his revenge but the king hid himself away in an underground, bronze chamber.
      The giant then retired to the island of Delos or Krete (Crete) where he became a hunting companion of the goddess Artemis. After his death he was placed amongst the stars as the constellation Orion.
      Artemis became Dinah, daughter of Jacob and Leah.

      I keep getting confused on what to believe I keep going back and forth with being a Christian, then not being a Christian it's been this way for years I want Christianity to be true but I see so much evidence supporting and disproving it for example inspiring philosophie's 2nd video on proof of the resurrection it makes sense but in the comments I see arguments against the bible that some people can't respond to there's people saying that historian's don't believe Jesus existed, and people saying that there's no eye witnesses of Jesus like how can we know there was 500+ eyewitnesses? The final thing I'll add is that some books for the bible were written 40-50 year's after Jesus why wait that long to write about Jesus?

    • @joshuahaddow3194
      @joshuahaddow3194 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @KingAdjust Historians saying that Jesus didn't exist are absolute jokes almost every historian says he did so i wouldn't worry about that.
      About the gospels the arguments for late dating are quite bad the first 3 are probably 20-30 years after whilst John probably is still quite later but that's not a problem. All the apostles were spending their lives preaching we can also see a strong gospel tradition in the letters of Paul showing it to be early
      I wouldn't keep looking at comments it's just going to cause doubts. Watch and read credible people and get a strong grasp on the facts.
      On constantly changing whether you're a christian or not I know how you feel but in all honesty my reply is look at Jesus he is perfect through it all remember him don't keep going back and forth between atheism and christianity, you can have questions but be committed to Jesus (not the religion but Jesus himself) as you look for answers. Through any situation he is still worth following because he died for you and his commands are perfect.
      P.s. the 500 witnesses is in the earliest source (probably months of resurrection) so it's super credible but the whole argument isn't resting on that

      @@KingAdjust even if God is absolutely real regardless of evidence there will always be a good sounding counter argument.
      For example if say “Go away.” There should be no other way to interpret such a simple phrase. Well someone could easily ask what if they’re actually saying that in a joking matter, they actually don’t want them to leave. Just by the nature of free thought there’s always a counter argument somewhere regardless something is the truth or not.
      We in actuality have to decide what we believe is true based on what we believe makes sense. If you choose put your trust in God even when in doubt we can trust we will eventually find an answer if we pursue one patiently. That’s how I try to do things

      As to the story of Sarah laughing at the Angel (God). The three angels who visited Abraham and Sarah, were Zeus, Hermes, and Poseidon.
      Two of the angels (Zeus and Hermes) went on to visit Lot and his wife (Philemon and Baucis).
      Has anyone ever told you why Poseidon remained behind)
      The answer is very simple.

    • @davidtakyi14
      @davidtakyi14 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@harveywabbit9541 I disagree with your view and I will refute all your claims by comparing both accounts and point out the contradictions.
      1. First off the three men purposely came to Abraham and Sarah who had no children yet you compared Philemon and Baucis who also had no children to Lot and his wife who already had two daughters,(And Lot's wife don't even survive) see the problem my friend, now tell me where in Greek mythology was Zeus known to be the god of childbirth? In greek lore the goddess of Childbirth was Eleithyia and she was a close companion of Hera(Goddess of Marriage and children) so why did Zeus go without them? 🤔 not very accurate to scripture in Genesis 18.
      2. You're parodying Zeus and Hermes account in Lystra to Sodom and Gomorrah which has about a million contradictions if you add them together, First of in Genesis 19 v 17 and verse 22 contradicts you because, The Lord was omniscient to know the crimes of Sodom and Gomorrah, Zeus and Hermes discovered the lawless actions and the lack of hospitality among the people of Lystra himself when disguised, also God didn't immediately incinerate Sodom and Gomorrah because of the plea of Abraham, so God decided to test them by sending two angels to the city unlike Zeus and Hermes who were surprised by the lack of hospitality of the people and was welcomed by two poor old couples.
      3. In Genesis chapter 19 everything contradicts the accounts in lystra and your view itself (because many historic accounts is clear only Zeus and Hermes went to Lystra, and Zeus called upon Poseidon to destroy the city from the waters of the river bank closest to the temple where he hid the couples, so that even refutes you) now analytically one thing the lystra and the Genesis account has in common is that the third man carries the instant punishment, after Zeus and Hermes take the old couples to the temple he instructs Poseidon to open the earth and consume the city with water but here is the contradiction in Genesis because according to the bible the third man of the three who doesn't go to Sodom is revealed as the Lord Almighty because in verse 24 he carries the divine punishment in the city by raining burning sulphur from the heavens unless you're telling us Poseidon is the Almighty among the olympians.
      4. The account of lystra actually provides this happy ending as the old couples die and are immortalised by the gods as trees which makes it more of a tale than an actual event, the Genesis account however provides a historic account of a civilzation that lived and still lives to this very day from the aftermath of this event, because from the verse 30 we find out that Lot's daughters who survived the punishment of sodom slept with him when he became old and blind in the caves and their decendants becomes the Moabites and Ammonites, the people from the nation of Jordan in the middle East today are that very descent.

      Infinite regress is not an idea supported by science. All the cosmological data we have of our universe points to its perpetual end thanks to entropy, but the universe doesn't collapse into itself, rather it just keeps on going as nothingness. If this is the case then infinite regress or a universe popping into existence whenever another goes isn't possible. If not, then infinite regress still has no place in logic and the natural state of the world, since virtually everything has a cause and an infinite regress would just beg the question, what caused it?

    It's interesting that a lot of what, for 100 years critical scholars have viewed as repetition from patchworking various similar stories, is actually parallelism. I was comparing the ESV and other translations of the "He who sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed" parallelism, and only the ESV preserved it. Not even the NASB used "blood of man," but instead "human blood."

      Matthew 27:53 was referring to the passersby who saw the dead bodies exposed by the earthquake and who entered the city and reported what they had seen. There was no resurrection of “sleeping saints” but merely a throwing of bodies out of their tombs by the earthquake that attended Jesus’ death.
      A similar incident took place in Ecuador in 1949. There the dead were buried in large burial vaults. An earthquake cracked open these vaults, ejecting many dead bodies which had to be buried at once to prevent a plague from breaking out!
      Everything in the Bible is Fact as 2 Timothy 3:16,17 says. “All Scripture is inspired of God.” There are no lies or inaccuracies because His Holy Spirit was used so that the men writing it wouldn’t add anything that wasn’t true.

    If you notice the time line, Sarah's second abduction occurred 'after' Abraham's failure with the sacrifice of the animals.
    In the first, as well as the second abduction, Sarah was restoring Eve's mistake.
    Eve was tempted away by the serpent (Lucifer who became Satan). Instead of Eve staying loyal to God, she abandoned God and followed Lucifer.
    The pharaoh represented Lucifer and Abraham represented God. Abraham was seemingly just a poor nomad and the Pharaoh was a rich, powerful king.
    Sarah restored Eve's mistake by keeping faith with her husband Abraham and rejecting the seduction of the Pharaoh.
    This, as with other tests God puts his people through laid a foundation to go the next step in God's providence to establish a chosen people and ultimately to produce Jesus.
    But as Abraham failed in his own test by not completing the animal sacrifice, God's efforts to move things forward was harmed and one of the negative results was that his descendants would have to live as slaves for 400 years.
    However, God could still work with Abraham but the test became far more difficult and he had to be willing to offer his son Isaac to God. And also Sarah had to redo her test even though she passed that test the first time.
    This is why Sarah had to be abducted and tempted a second time.
    I will give a talk about this on my TH-cam channel.

    • @harveywabbit9541
      @harveywabbit9541 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are several assemblers in Isaiah. Isaiah is a compound word of Isa (Savior) and I Ah, with the I = male and Ah = female. Isaiah is the Latin Jupiter, Greek Zeus, and Hindu Indra. Isaiah is the Sun of both Winter and Summer. See Isaiah 47.3, where Isaiah coms out of winter, not as a man (barren earth)...but as a woman (nurture). The I = Adam and the Ah = Eve.

      Isaiah is double-sexed, just like the mythical Adam.
      But I (Isaiah = the spring Sun), will take vengeance - I will not meet thee as a man (the barren Earth), but as a woman (the Earth in summer) (V.3). As for our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel is the Sun of the seven summer months (v. 4). Therefore, sit thou silent as the night, and get thee into darkness (Virgo as a night constellation), O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be the lady of kingdoms (winter months = Babylon). Isaiah 47.
      The seven months of "summer" begin at the spring equinox aka Aries thru Libra. This seven months is also the seven years of building the temple (your body). The "Temple" is always destroyed in its seventh month of completion. This is simply the end of "summer" and entry into "winter" aka the five months of Revelation 9.5. Thee five "months" are the five constellations of Scorpio thru Pisces. These same five signs are also the five sons of Shem (winter/hidden sun).

    • @harveywabbit9541

      Correct, the entire bible must be read as allegory. The two Jerusalems are the two solstices. Remember where Jesus (the sun) rides the mare and her foal (two stars in Cancer) into Jerusalem. Here we have the summer solstice as Jerusalem. Jerusalem, of the bible, was never down here.
      Also, see Isaiah 9.14-15, where Israel (summer) is the four constellations of Leo thru Scorpio. The royal/noble lion is the head (Leo) and the liar aka Scorpio is the tail. Judah/Judea = Aries thru Cancer.
      For a graphic depiction of this Israel see the Hindu/Persian Manticore. This beast would be enormous as it is the size of four constellations.

The curse was because Ham’s son Canaan had performed some shocking act or perversion against his grandfather Noah. Ham witnessed this and instead of stopping it he spreads the story. Noah’s other two sons, Shem and Japheth, acted to cover their father. They were blessed for this reason, but Canaan was cursed and Ham suffered as a result of the shame brought upon his offspring.

      Canaan is the constellation of Scorpio. The scorpion is cursed as he is a harbinger of the hated winter season of five months in Revelation 9.5. The "months" are Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
      The same five signs make up Ha Shem, the hidden/concealed sun.
      The actual winter season (of the Trinity) is Sagittarius thru Pisces.
      Sagittarius = Jupiter/Fire
      Capricorn = Earth/Vesta
      Aquarius = Air/Juno
      Pisces = Neptune/Water
      These same four elements are repeated in the spring and summer seasons.
      For instance, in Isaiah 9.14-15, Israel (as summer and Siva) is described as Leo/Fire, Virgo/Earth, Libra/Air, and Scorpio/Water. The head is the noble lion and the tail is the liar Scorpio. like in the Hindu/Persian Manticore.

    If you want to pretend that there is only one writer, you are free to do that. It seems to me, the evidence that there were multiple writers and a redactor. How can we know for sure? We can't because they didn't write WHY they each made their stories different, all we know is that they ARE different. Some writers made God to be legalistic, and other writers made God out to be kind. But at the end of the day, the Bible teaches that the earth was made from water, which is not true, so take the whole thing with a GIANT grain of salt.

    I am gonna be frank, stuff like this make me lose more and more respect for biblical schoolars. Like I get the argument for genesis 1 being a combination of sources, even tho I don't really believe it but this is ridiculously, especially coming from the people that claim it was originally an oral tradition and oral traditions have intentional repeatations, rythming later events to earlier ones to help them be more memorable.
    And ancient works do this as well, tho more between authors and within one, like writing stories of Caeser and ecetra in a way to invoke earlier culture heroes like Alex.

    Moses will soon return with his thirty days of weeping (rain).
    After the children of Israel had avenged themselves of the Midianites, and captured their young virgins for future use, Moses was "gathered unto his people" (Num. 31.2), i.e., leaving the Sun, "he went and returned, and dwelt" with the Sun - he completed the circle of the zodiac, or year. Having thus looked upon the Promised Land (summer), Moses died, and buried himself in a valley in the land of Moab (water-father = Aquarius = Moses), "but no man knoweth of his sepulcher unto this day" (Deut. 34.6). Although one hundred and twenty years old," his eye," it is said, " was not dim (his stars shine as brightly now as they did then), nor his natural force abated (the rainy season still comes on every year) " However, the people wept thirty days, i.e., during the passage of the Sun through Aquarius, the Wash-pot (Ps 60.8), or the rainy month.

      The three angels, who visited Abraham and Sarah, were Zeus, Hermes, and Poseidon. Poseidon is the father of Isaac/Orion in Greek/Latin myths. Zeus and Hermes went on to visit Lot and his Wife. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah (bible) is taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses. This is where Zeus and Hermes visited Baucis and Philemon.

    There is a certain desperation to hold onto the Bible.
    Also, the whole story of Sarah is totally messed up and just weird by any moral standard.

    Bible 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleans us from all sin.
    Al Quran Al-Hajj 36-37 We have made sacrificial camels ˹and cattle˺ among the symbols of Allah, in which there is ˹much˺ good for you. So pronounce the Name of Allah over them when they are lined up ˹for sacrifice˺. Once they have fallen ˹lifeless˺ on their sides, you may eat from their meat, and feed the needy-those who do not beg, and those who do. In this way We have subjected these ˹animals˺ to you so that you may be grateful. Neither their meat nor blood reaches Allah. Rather, it is your piety that reaches Him. This is how He has subjected them to you so that you may proclaim the greatness of Allah for what He has guided you to, and give good news to the good-doers.
