@JoTheTechie For sure! In a desktop lower temperatures would likely increase performance due to the nature of the processors and their default tuning, but an APU designed to run at such specific thresholds, on a battery you're likely just reducing the power draw. It's very possible you raised the MHZ ceiling for thermal throttling but it's not as if the console will retune it's clock and somehow know there's more thermal mass on it like GPUs that clock based on temperature magically do in a desktop. If anyone disagrees with that comment on this comment.
Love this format! You got a steam deck, found specific issues in your use case, sought out solutions to those problems on a budget, and here we are! Great video, might consider some of these options for my OLED version.
I wonder how much better cooling you’d get if you cut out the plastic part of the backplate that covers the metal plate so you could attach your heat sinks directly to the metal. Surprised you got that much cooling improvement through the plastic. Definitely get the OLED, so much nicer and more battery.
@@SmartFool24 Thanks for watching all the way to the end. That metal under the backplate is super thin for mounting. Would have to get into 3d printing to do sumn like that.
Great video! Good idea on the cooling as well, I'll be taking some of these ideas. I have had the Dbrand Killswitch (with travel cover) since release. I really recommend it. It's about $75 so may not be worth it to you now but it includes the functionality of a lot of things on this list. It has a kickstand and most importantly the travel cover just snaps on and covers the entire front of the deck so you can just throw it in your bag and not worry about it
I know that it would be far more permanent, but i would cut a hole for the heatsinks on the back in order to make sure they're properly disipating the heat, plastic is relatively insulating and it would obstruct the cooling considerably. I would also prefer copper heatsinks but that's a minor thing.
@@Ferrari255GTO No. the JSAUX backplate has a metal section with a thermal pad that goes against the metal components cover inside the Steam deck. So it’s metal to metal with a thermal pad sandwich
I have the same exact Jsaux case and loving it too, also have the same color. Let me give you something that might help and won’t break the bank…get yourself a magnetic cell phone cooler. These have a magnet and will attach directly to the back of the Jsaux case’s metal heatsink that touches the inner components. I got mine off Temu for under $10. There are tons to choose from off Amazon and similar storefronts. They are very quiet and the cooling gets so cool that it feels like touching the inside of a refrigerator. It’s rare to find them with a built in battery so you’ll need to usually either have it powered from the Deck’s USB port or plugged into something else, like getting a dual USB type C cable that will power both Deck and cooler or have the cooler power off an external battery. Your temps can get even better with this and still within your smaller budget.
I did something similar with my OLED one using the GREEN backplate. Replaced the cooling paste with stuff from Noctua (had it at home... so 0€/$ otherwise ~ 14€/$) and added a few thermal pads from Thermal Grizzly. (~10€/$) Instead of those 4 black aluminum coolers you used I got a single one made of copper that's 40x40x2mm (thinner than yours and fits neatly on the metal plate) for ~13€/$ I then went into the BIOS and reduced voltage by -30mV overall (there are guides on how to do this on YT...) and reduced max frames per second to 45 (to keep the 90hz screen refresh)

The reason that the backplates are out of stock is because thats the v1. The v2 has a larger fan vent but I've never noticed any improvements. Your addition of the heatsinks really made a difference, wow
I think the vent over the fan intake on the V2 backplate is a mistake. Valve made the fan covered so that it would pull air through the lower vent across the components to cool them. great video! the keyboard is the micro usb model can you relink to the usb c model please.
Not sure where you're seeing micro-usb. That's the exact one I bought from Amazon and it's USB-C.
Why the steam deck 265gb had price bigger than 64g and 512gb did they put technology better or something?
Not sure where you’re seeing 256GB prices higher than the 512. I’ve never seen that. Unless it’s a one off or sale somewhere.

me thinking you build your own steamdeck zzzzzzz
🤷🏾♂️
The content is top notch, very good but I will subscribe for the final message. Keep thanking GOD and honoring him and he will bless you.

It's last of us 2 right ?
Yeah. Streaming using Chiaki
Just get a rog ally z1 extreme , so much better than the steam deck
Depends on your use case. The Ally cant compete with the Steam Deck in the time to game, pickup and play. But the Ally is more powerful and Windows, love it or hate it it's useful.
I appreciate you placing the bibel verse in the beginning so I know to avoid this channel. Much thanks.
@@shassafrass1770 🙂 I’ll pray for you
