    Bold of you to assume my deads are heavy enough to have slack.

    That might be the best explanation for pulling the slack out that I've ever heard.

    That cue to stop forward knee travel as you pull the slack out and pull yourself into position is a game changer!

    Good video, personally I like to be dynamic off the floor. I roll the bar away and then back. Been struggling to figure out when to push off. Thought it had to do with hip height but now I realize it’s all about shin angle. Thanks a ton!

    ooooooooooooo this helped a lot thank you. My coach and I were having trouble getting me to understand how to "wedge" and push my hips back. But by just preventing forward knee travel that's a lot easier for my ADHD ass brain to understand than just "wedge" yourself into the bar.

    This is super useful, thank you so much! I was wondering, though, is it normal to feel your lower back during deadlifts? I do conventional, haven’t tried sumo yet. It’s not painful, but after deadlifting my lower back muscles always feel tight. I was wondering because no one ever talks about that area unless it’s related to pain 😅 is it normal or is it a form issue/hips too tight? Thank you!

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that’s not an issue! The low back is full of muscles just like the rest of the body, and they can/should be trained and strengthened as well.

    You’re somewhat mistaken about strongmen sitting back into position causing them to lose some tension. It actually helps them get a little more tension prior to the lift (folks often think they are trying to squat the weight up when they do this too, but they are not). It’s one of the reason many top strongmen roll the bar into them. The other reason is that it helps them get enough air in for the lift due to their huge midsections.

    How to get the grip strong enough to use the double grip not the mixed one

    • @patbateman4202
      @patbateman4202 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ishak Lika eventually the double over hand grip will fail, regardless of your grip strength. That’s why you will need to use the hook grip, mixed, or straps - to keep progressing on deads without your grip limiting you.
