    Seeing a lot of "this is the best bench vid I have seen." Bryce has so many example of "this is the best video about _____ I have seen" on the channel. Dudes a blessing for beginner lifters for real.

    I’ve watched hundreds of TH-cam vids over the past 3 years and this is without doubt the best Bench vid I’ve seen. I’ve never even thought about leaving a comment before but after applying your cues my bench just felt right today for the first time. I found you via your Omar collaboration...more people need this channel, you should do more collaboration vids so people can find you. Good work fella.

I realised that at heavy weights I do that thing you described where I bring the bar lower towards my stomach than usual then have to front felt raise it up. I always thought that it was a loss of tightness but the way you explained it was a real revelation to me. Any tips on how to improve that? Any special exercises or accessories or is it just a question of practice?

    Bryce, I got a quick Q. Do you think that geared lifting has made your raw lift grooving funky, or do you not feel a difference? Thinking of making a transition into single ply next year, trying to get as much info as possible. Good tutorial.

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel better on the bench and deadlift for sure. Having to be super conscious of my positioning and tightness on both so the equipment doesn't throw me around has been hugely beneficial. The squat I think I was losing a bit of power out of the hole from the equipped stuff, but not much.

  • @CaptDantastic
    @CaptDantastic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice lesson. Would you say that you have a larger than average grip on the bar though? It looks like your pointer fingers are on the rings. I know it's idiosyncratic but I always thought it was "more correct" to go narrower otherwise you are just doing a wide grip bench press, and therefore it's said to be easier. I know that for me, I can handle more weight when done wider. Arching and less range of motion seems to be the reason why. Thoughts?

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find my press is stronger wider for sure. Not sure about more arching but definitely less ROM. As a powerlifter my ideal "correctness" as you've put it would be whatever allows me to move the most weight. So wider = better for me.

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, this is how I would coach gen pop lifters to bench as well. Maybe with less emphasis on trying to arch as much, but definitely not because anything I coached would be “unsafe” for anyone. It all boils down to trying things out and seeing what works for you!
