I made the honey wheat rolls for Easter dinner and the family really enjoyed them.
Hi Robert! Wonderful to hear! Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a note 😊 It’s so nice to hear from viewers 🥳 - Marie
I’m 67, grew up in small town in Indiana. Most relatives were farmers, w/ cooks who made everything from scratch & organic. I Still cook that way…my foundation. I grew up always making rolls. Since family was huge, w/ plenty of relatives stopping by, I had to make tons of rolls. Never put that much sugar, even in all I ever made. However, I always made two types. Regular rolls and what we called ‘caramel rolls’. A bottom pan of a pecan, brown sugar butter base, which were eaten w/ those big country breakfasts & held you over until the big holiday feast. Everybody has their own methods. To shape my rolls, I put dough in my hand & popped them up between my thumb & index finger with buttered hands. Went real fast for those hundreds of rolls I made.
I am 78, so I know what you mean. I was raised in the Deep South by a mother who learned cooking from her mother. It took me quite a few years to make Beef, Vegetable Soup, like my mother, but I finally did. I have passed on the recipe to my girls. My mother showed my wife how to make cornbread dressing and she has passed it on to our girls. The one thing that mother made that I have not been able to replicate is her hoe cake. I know what she made it from and how she cooked it but I have not been able to replicate the taste and feel, yet. I am working on it. It was made with Bisquick and milk, cooked on a cast iron skillet and was about 3/4” thick and had the coloring of a pancake. Put some jelly on it and it was a meal, in its self.
@@johnclarke6647 I lived in metro Atlanta for 35 years & remember having ‘hoe cakes’ hope same as you described. A Flatbread with ones meal - had it at this restaurant downtown. OMG, the best. My Grandmother fixed hot water cornbread. My Mother rarely fixed it. But, whenever I visited any one of her 7 brothers, they always fixed it. Again, that right touch & skill. Those staples were our life blood. I made beef vegetable soup w/ barley the other day. Hadn’t had it since my Mother made it. It has been divine !! I’ve lost most of these ppl & no family now, and during this time of year, their memory floods my soul. Can’t eat much by myself. But, I’m the freezer queen!! I’m moving back to fixing hm rolls, soups, etc., with food being so expensive & often eating out is an awful experience. I turn on some music from old, pull out those basic staples & make those jewels of my childhood. TY, for sharing your memories & have a wonderful holiday season. Blessings!!
I hope you have a blessed holiday and I will keep you in my prayers, I feel like you, seems the same...we will all be ok, I promise!!❤
@@dawnross644 I make VBS with stew been and it is tomato based with plenty of salt.
@@dawnross644 Dawn, I grew up in Cobb County and my mother taught school in Cobb County. I remember the days of Rich’s and the Pink Pig and riding the shopper bus between Davidsons and Rich’s. All for a nickel. Try that now. The last time I rode Marta it was over a buck. My youngest daughter lives in Marietta and she won’t even go downtown. It was not like that when I was a boy. I used to ride Southeastern Stages from Atlanta late at night after going to a movie at the Fox.Theater, without having a .45 pistol in my belt. Not any more.
Great video, 62 years young, ole country man here, never attempted anything like this! I was probably like a lot of folks intimidated of the word “yeast”! But I watched your video several times and got up the nerve to do it! I brought you along for support lol started your video and paused and play my way through it! They turned out excellent!! Even impressed my wife of 40 years, she told me that is about the best roll I’ve ever eaten!! Thanks appreciate ya
Hi Paul! Wow, what a great story! Thank you for watching. 🥰 I’m so glad you were inspired to give the rolls a try! I’m excited for you to impress your wife with some more delicious options! Hugs, Marie
Marie this is one of the best bread rolls tutorials I have seen. The instructions were clear and precise and the best part no music blaring in the background while you were speaking thank you I am making the rolls today my first time 😊

Found you today and I’m so glad. Have a blessed day as you show us your techniques. ❤
Hi Donna! Thanks for watching and for taking time to leave a note! Always love to hear from viewers 😊 My best, Marie
Just found your channel and I appreciate how well you describe the ingredients and the process and all without the interference of “background music”! I had to smile when you said that “ no one’s going to care if the size is the same” as I can picture my two grandsons searching and scanning for the “biggest one”! Oh, and I just love your fur baby!
Hi Audrey! Thanks so much for watching 🥰 I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Too funny about your grandson’s fighting over the biggest roll! My kids do that about everything lol. 😂 Stay tuned for more new recipes soon ❤️, Marie
10/10 dinner rolls recipe! I'm newly getting started with making homemade foods and I've never made something like this before. I made sure to follow the recipe closely even though the kneading made my arms really tired and I wanted to give up (lol). I'm glad I didn't though, the whole house was smelling great and when the rolls came out exactly as pictured I felt so proud and accomplished. Thank you for your work ❤️ 👍
I am 79 years old and I plan to make your dinner rolls for the very first time. I am thrilled to know I can refrigerate until our Thanksgiving dinner. My mother was a master at yeast rolls but I have never attempted to make them. Thank you for your clear instructions! Happy Thanksgiving!
Wonderful!
I haven’t read all the comments so someone else may have mentioned this. I am 87 so things were very different when I was a child in elementary school. The glue we used was called paste and was a flour/water mixture, I think it was called library paste. It didn’t actually hold well when we made our construction paper chains, they could break easily. Your warning to soak the bowl brought this to mind.😄
Your rolls are beautiful, expressing my theory that cooking, baking is a Science and an Art! I have a very old recipe that I have used many years, given to me by a friend that is 93 now! Anyone who makes the rolls for holidays is showing their love for family! Yours look like the size of sliders!
Hi Joanne! Thanks for watching! Yes I often compare baking to art - it truly is! How lucky of you to have a recipe from a dear friend - those are so special 🥰 Thank you for watching ❤️, Marie
Thank you Marie! I made your rolls today and they came out perfect. I love watching you cook and how you make recipes not so complicated!
Your rolls are the first I have ever made.. your right everybody loved the roll. Thank you for a terrific tutorial.
Love how detail she described the recipe! Will be trying this recipe! 😮
Brush thinned out honey on top when they come out of the oven. Made them for church dinners but they liked them so much that they were gone by the time the buffet started moving. By the end of the month I was making 8 recipes using full sheets in a 3 tier oven. They are delish! Love your dog.❤
Hi Peggy! Oh I love this idea! Thinned honey sounds delicious. What a fun story too - sounds like your rolls were a hit! Yum. Thanks for watching snd for the note ❤️, Marie
I made this recipe for thanksgiving. I’ve never made homemade rolls before and they turned out perfect and my family loved them! Thank you for making them the old fashioned way because I don’t have a stand mixer. Thank you for your to the point instructions and your sense of humor!
So glad to hear! Thanks for the feedback - so helpful for me and other viewers 🥰 Stay tuned for more new recipes soon ❤️, Marie
You had me with your fur baby supervisor!! So sweet and adorable, only snoozing because they knew you had this 😁🐾😁🐾
Thank you for sharing and God bless you and your family❤
Love watching you prepare. Real and lots of fun as I learn. Almost 76 and this is easier than my farm work.
Marie. Your instructions are incredible!!! Thank you for making these videos ❤
Hi Karen! Thanks for watching and for taking time to leave a note! Always love to hear from viewers 😊 And I’m happy to hear my instructions are helpful. I really try to simplify things as much as possible 🙌🏼 Let me know if you get a chance to try this one, and please stay tuned for more new recipes soon ❤️, Marie
I lost my Grandma's recipe several years ago. They were my favorite rolls! I tried these Thanksgiving day, without a trial run first, so I was on pins and needles start to finish. Oh, my goodness! They turned out amazing! So soft and fluffy and pillowy and beautiful! I think I may like them just a little better than Grandma's, lol! Definitely better than than dozens of recipes I've tried over the years trying to find something close. Thank you so much for this easy, delicious recipe!
If there are rolls left over, they are great for turkey or turkey salad sandwiches.
Can't wait to try this recipe! Love how you show how yeast is to work.
Yes I do plan to try making these!
I have been making my own dinner rolls, breads of all kinds for the last 30 years.......I love your simplicity from Southern Indiana
Hi! Thanks for watching! Glad to hear it was helpful ❤️, Marie
I'm super lazy now so I throw all of the wet ingredients into my bread machine, add the dry, and let it mix in the dough setting. That mixes it, heats it for proofing in the machine, lets it rise all in the one container, and will punch down and let rise again automatically. It will do that for a total of up to 90 minutes. Then I remove the dough and shape to complete the process on the baking sheet. Looking forward to trying these.
Hi! Wow that sounds amazing! Now I wish I had a bread machine ☺️ Let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching ❤️, Marie
Me too 😁 I also par bake and freeze the rolls for later. It’s the actual recipe in the video that I am interested in. This is a good video, especially for beginners, thank you.
I just buy Hawaii sweet dinner rolls for $5, no messy, no work, no failing, no guessing, no trouble , save time……. 😂😊
Great video! The salt in the butter is a preservative, if you don't use much butter and are concerned, salted butter won't go rancid ás fast.
On a related note, of you don't use much dairy milk, if you sprinkle a little salt in when you open it, it'll stay fresh tasting longer. Not enough to taste it, I'm talking less than a teaspoon per quart.
If I can get two or three days longer out of a quart, that's a plus... The difference between having gravy (which you're going to add salt to anyway) or not on my biscuits... Or homemade rolls!
I’ve been looking for a good simple dinner roll recipe and I think I’ve found it. Really enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing more. Can’t wait to try this!
I made these for Easter. They came out great. I refrigerated the rolls the night before (according to your notes) and pulled them out a couple hours before dinner to let rise and baked as instructed. I did brush with melted butter before serving. I looked at several recipes and yours seemed to be the easiest to follow. Thank you for the great video.
I love how simple and how clean the area is step by step instructions and I will make this for sure like my grt grandma , grandma and mom used to do as well as my grt aunties, whom I miss dearly . Thank you fror showing us
i am from a country of which is not much of bread eater but i am willing to try this.. will be my first time making bread in my 62 years! wish me luck girl!

I made these today for a trail run! I must say, they are the best buns I've ever made! Thank you so much!
Hi! So glad to hear this! 🎉 Thank you for taking time to leave a note - your feedback is so helpful to me and other viewers 🥰 When i first read your comment I thought, “How interesting! She had the rolls on a picnic after a trail run!” I literally pictured you jogging with a basket of rolls out in the wilderness 🤣 Then I just realized you probably meant “trial” run. As in a trial run before Thanksgiving. Of course. If you have seen my brain, please let me know because it appears to be missing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks again for the feedback and for the laugh ❤️, Marie
Can't wait to make these....thank you!
I just made this ,they are so soft and buttery thank you so much❤
I have never made homemade rolls but I’m going to give it a try. I’m making some today before I spring them on everyone on Thanksgiving. I loved your tutorial and how you mentioned it doesn’t have to look perfect to taste delicious

I have never made homemade rose but those look so delicious and my family. Love yeast rolls. I usually buy them in the frozen food section but I will be making these. And I love bread. Rosemary bread is my favorite so I can add some rosemary to my dough or sprinkle it on top. Thanks for sharing

I have never made homemade rolls, but you make it look so easy that I am definitely going to try them, thanks so much for another great recipe 😊
Hi Lisa! Excited for you to try these! Rolls can be intimidating so I’m glad you feel inspired! That’s always me goal. Stay tuned for more new recipes soon ❤️, Marie
I've made rolls before but it's been a long time. I always get a bit anxious because I fear killing the yeast. This method has inspired me and I'm definitely going to try these!! If they turn out like these I'll definitely add them to my Thanksgiving menu. ❤
Hi Darla! I know the feeling! Yeast can be a little intimidating but if you proof it with the sugar and warm water and see it foam, then you know you’re yeast is good, so that step helps. Good plan to practice a few times before Thanksgiving though 👍🏻 Let me know if you have questions along the way - always happy to help! ❤️, Marie
Been a long time since I made home-made rolls. This recipe looks like a good way to get back into it. Enjoyed your casual and pleasant way you made it seem so easy. Look forward to watching more videos!
I'm going to make these for Christmas. Enjoyed
I haven't made dinner rolls in a while. Mine comes out perfect every time. Think I'll make some for Thanksgiving 👍
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! I bet your rolls are delicious. Have a wonderful holiday ❤️, Marie
I love this recipe! It’s super close to my grandmother’s roll recipe, and it turned out just like hers. I use a dough whisk instead of a spatula and it makes my life so much easier. A started using my grandmother’s flour hack, too. I found an old school, glass sugar dispenser (like you find at a diner) but it has a large hole shaker lid on it. It is wonderful for lightly flouring my workspace to knead dough. Thanks so much for such a great video!
Hi Alana! Great to hear! Thanks for watching and for the lovely note! I love the sugar shaker as a flour dispenser! Definitely going to try that - what a brilliant grandmother you had 🥰 Thanks again for watching. Big hugs, Marie
I love this!!! Looks so delicious!!!! Can't wait to try this!!! Thank you!!!
Hi Maria, my grandson which is 5 yrs old, we used your recipe for homemade bread. They were great tasting and i really enjoyed the time with him. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe with me
Great video! I make rolls all the time but I can never get them to be the same size. Your hack will really be helpful going forward. And, the last time I made them I did exactly what you did and used a smaller bowl and the dough rose up and got stuck to the wrap I had used to cover them, but all was well and the rolls came out fine - just not the same size, LOL!
Hi! So glad that hack was helpful! Makes it easier than trying to estimate each one 😅 Thanks so much for watching and taking time to leave a note - so glad to be connected ❤️, Marie
I’m going to try them. Thanks
I made them, they were delicious. Thank you!
Two words. Dough enhancer. ✊
Ooh! Good to know! Never tried that or even heard of it 😅 Thanks for watching and for the tip! -Marie
Please explain. Thanks.😊
Bread roll glaze
Thanks for sharing❤️
I made a similar recipe but I baked it in a bread pan and added unsalted butter on top before and after baking. I love making these for Thanksgiving. I let my Kitchenaid do the kneading.
Hi! Thanks for watching! So you made it as one loaf in a bread pan? Someone was asking me about whether you could use this recipe for a loaf instead of rolls. Haven’t tried it yet but now I want to 🥰 Thanks for the inspiration ❤️, Marie
How long did you knew in stand mixer please
@@rhawknails55 I used a dough hook to knead the dough until it looked like it was ready. Unfortunately, I cannot add a photo of the rolls to this comment.
@@marieskitchen I baked the rolls in a bread pan and they pull apart like monkey bread.
Thank you for including metric measurements !
You explain well. 👍
Hi Mary Ann! Yes several viewers requested metric so I’m adding to all new recipes! So glad it’s helpful 🥰 Hugs, Marie
This recipe and your instruction’s made this enjoyable and simple!
Look De-Lish🤤 Giving them a pre-Thanksgiving trial run this week! By the way your kitchen looks PRISTINE!!!(New subscriber)🤗Thanks
