    Awesome video as usual... I believe the structure at 5:44 Is for Degausing the Sub's before they leave to reduce their magnetic field... PS I made Sausage and Peppers (My Way) all my life, when I cooked for a family. Now I only make yours!

    Palm Cove Marina is our home marina for our leopard power catamaran. You can see it at 7:51. We would have loved to see an Aquila 54 up close too bad we were not in town. Happy travels we like seeing your videos. Richard and Karen at the marina are great to work with.

    Get one of those 3-d printed handles for the Mavic. Take off from the hand and easier to catch.

    Thank you for posting this video! I’ve been looking at Aquila boats/yachts and wanting to see more than just a sales/test video; an added bonus is y’all traveling a section of the ICW since I’m thinking of a vessel big enough to sleep on comfortably yet small enough to run the Great Loop.

    • @thewanderinghillbilly
      @thewanderinghillbilly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 54’ is too big for the loop. I was constantly uncomfortable with the shallow areas of the ICW and it’s near impossible sometimes to find a slip wide enough. I’d go down to an Aquila 44 for the loop. Thanks for watching

    So weird seeing my home waters in someone's videos. Savannah is a great place to get some work done on your boat, we have at least 2 businesses that can haul out extremely large yachts, you were there next to one of them at Thunderbolt Marine.

    Enjoyed the 'trip' with ya, if only from my youtube connection. Beautiful vessel. Native Georgian here. Loved it when you passed Kings Bay. As a kid growing up in the 80's, spent many a summers on Cumberland Island. We would camp there, maybe a 1/4 mile from the beach on the southern end. We would sit on the beach in the evening and at times would catch glimpses of the subs coming into / out of Kings Bay.

    We love watching your channel. It really makes us look forward to getting a power cat of our own one day. What kind of fuel burn are you seeing when you're running 10 to 15 knots?

    • @thewanderinghillbilly
      @thewanderinghillbilly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It varies with current and wind. I usually enjoy running at 2100rpm. With current it’s about 11 knots and I burn 12 gallons per hour. I get on plane at about 3200rpm. That’s around 15 or 16 knots…burning a whopping 32 gallons an hour. Big difference.

    Man, so glad I found your video. I’ve been watching every video I can find on the Aquila 54 and LOVE yours. I love seeing how a yacht is used in real life, the dealer walkthroughs just don’t give you the real feel of a boat. With that said, do you find it he’d finding spots to dock due to the beam? I’m on Lake Michigan and I’m wondering about the difficulty of finding docks and more importantly a marina that can haul out such a beamy boat. Any advice? Tips or tricks? If you had to buy it again, is there anything you’d do different? I subscribed, looking forward to following your adventures .

    • @thewanderinghillbilly
      @thewanderinghillbilly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and yes! One of my reasons for accelerating my desire to relocate to the BVI has been the ongoing headache of finding a slip along the east coast. It’s not impossible but it’s just a lot of work to keep and find a spot. The haul out aspect is another thing you constantly have to think and worry about. That’s why i wanted an “all in one” marina and I wanted it in a location with an amazing cruising ground…that’s why I chose the BVI.. Thanks so much for watching!

  • @portersteel32

  • @gwmeck
    @gwmeck ปีที่แล้ว

    Alan, love the boat and the vids especially the drone shots while you are cruising. I noticed that you regularly get an outside, exposed birth as a transient boat with a very wide beam spending just a night or two. Would the power cat benefit from a sea keeper to limit the amount of rocking at night. My wife gets extremely seasick from side to side rocking and I’m wondering how much there is with an open exposed birth on a cat.

    • @thewanderinghillbilly
      @thewanderinghillbilly  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure but I don’t think Seakeepers work on catamarans. At least I’ve never heard of that. Regardless, this big cat does not move hardly at all while being out on the end of the dock.. All good. Thanks for watching
