Great video Michael. We’re here for the realism and boating brings huge highs and lows. Riding out the recent blow was rough, worse than the tropical storm we went through this summer. Good that you’re getting things in order and aren’t rushing across. We’re struggling with power as well with the constant cloudy weather and short days. Keep it up and stay safe captain! Karl
Hey Micheal! Solo sailing is hard! If it's not he weather, it's electrical problems, mecanical, etc. It's a never ending cycle of ups and downs. I love your channel because you are truely honest about everything! That's the WHY you do videos. You do mistakes and assume them. Many people quit but you don't. You are not a quiter! You are a courageous and devoted sailor. I recognize this in you when you came up to my boat in Atlantic City when you were stuck under the bridge. ;-) Take care buddy
Tears…. Just watched this episode, omg… brother… this one was the Canadian who visits Florida to make a reboot of the life of job, at sea. I can’t imagine the stress of the situation, I personally am a fan of captain Morgan but even the captain would be forced to turn away. The tenacity to endure, shows very much the addiction to the joys of sailing, for that there is no task to great to mount to break on through to the other side. One thing (10-35 perhaps?) you certainly ARE not sugar coating the experience, indeed my list of “things you need before, you go” is getting longer with each episode! Holy crap Batman!
Keep my 37 in Ft. Pierce. Had my alternator rebuilt right at that place. A+ service and very low cost. Hope every place doing service was just as good as them. Thanks for your shows.
Hi there Captain Michael 👋👋👋 I actually happen to be the sister of the Captain of the MV Lazy Susan 😃 I am glad you found his advice to be helpful. He is really an expert and I would trust him with my life to handle any situation that might occur on the water 👌💯
Captain Michael, we love your ❤️, spirit and determination! A few suggestions for consideration - why not try and hitch a ride back home from Florida after the season on one of the sailing crew sites - that will save you cash and you might even find a paying delivery. As for storing EV after the season pay only two months before you leave then when you get home and start working pay by the month - that’s what we did when we left our boat in Jacksonvile. Stay hooked ⚓️!
I appreciate you keeping it real. More people need to see what it is like to have a boat. It is not all sunshine and sand. I live in Maine and planned a trip to Halifax last summer the day before I left, there was diesel in my bilge. The bottom of my fuel tank and let go. I thought the trip was not going to happen. Then I sat for a day got my head around it then started ripping up my floor took out the fuel tank, got it to shore, went and got it fixed put it back in put the floor back in and had a great trip. Sometimes you just have to sit calm down and get through it. It is always worth it.
Fully agree! Once you know each system is functional then move on.. so much has happened since that video. Im north of Fort Lauderdale now.. There was a crazy 6 day storm and I lost and retreived my anchor and chain. Almost sunk the boat again!! Had to hide from gale force winds in a superyatch marina!! Interesting video inbound.. Im ok and safe.. but it has been crazy so far..
Love the vids man! We made it to Beaufort today and even got the sails out today. Looking forward to getting close to ya so we can buy ya a drink or ten! Keep at it man, I’ve had engine issues on the way down too, had to rebuild my water pump in Belhaven but it felt good to do it myself. You inspire us all so just keep moving forward like you said!! See you soon!!
Cheap rum in Bellhaven!!! Near the food lion!! 16$ USD for a 60 pounder!! Stock up while you can!! Hope to cross paths with you and enjoy sundowners one day. Thanks for commenting!!
I think that AC equipment you bought will be gold for you. Granted I'm an armchair sailor but it always seems that skill/toolset is in desperate demand all over the Caribbean and Florida. Emily and Clark's Adventure has some great AC repair videos. Also I remember that comment from last video. I think it's the most condensed dump of great cruising information I've ever seen. Good call on highlighting it.
Thanks for keeping it real. That makes for the best content, imo. Oil leak: I’m guessing there’s only a few possible places it could be coming from such as drain plug or valve cover, maybe?. Have you found the leak? PS, I am not a boat mechanic 😅
Brother, you are out there. I live on the I CW in North Carolina. I am in the Midwest still working to hopefully fund my adventure before I get too old. if you head back up north, the I CW there is always free Deepwater slips and a home provisions and a car every cruiser is welcome to.bay River mm 157
Thanks cap. Where ever the boat is.. is home. Its strange.. its not what you think it would be.. This would be the same place even if I was anchored off Madagascar somewheres.. you go down below and it may as well be a house on land.. Florida has become a second home and Im glad you made this comment.. it reminds me when I fist got EV.. Imagining anchoring off some tropical island.. fixing her up there.. Starting a youtube channel and creating cool videos with new tech.. But the reality is an ocean crossing vessel is key when going really far away. Ill admit it.. its crucial. Knowing your rigging is good knowing the hull will hold fast in a blow or a bump on a reef. Means everything. Having an anchor that will hold. Knowing your hull is dry. Knowing your sails will hold and your engine will start.. knowing you have heat when cold.. AC when hot.. turning your tap and knowing water will come out.. these are considerations to take to heart. One could spend a life time perfecting these intentions. What are your intentions? Start there. Hold fast and never forget. Anything is possible...
Well Micheal, Greetings from Ireland, I have a similar project on my hands in Greece, a Classic 34ft Rival. At the moment it is a 34 foot jigsaw puzzle, but I am planning to have her sailing in 2024. I was happy to join your Patreon supporters tonight. Many of us can give you a little to help you along your way. Keep the Faith... I just wondered did that ALTERNATOR REPAIR guy have a refurbished unit he could sell you that would give you the peace of mind of having a Spare Altenator???... Better to be looking AT IT, than looking FOR IT. Good Luck with your Buddy on Board...it will be an interesting dynamic to see Two Captains work on a cramped 36ft Yacht..Keep the Episodes coming... Yuletide Felicitations Captain Michael....Con Brosnan SV CELTIC RIVAL
Don't hold yourself to promises of sailing to a destination. I think everyone understands that it's your goal to sail to the Bahamas, but life happens. Glad that you'll have someone to join you and help. As for questioning the decision to buy a boat and live that life (I don't yet), I have my moments of thinking it's all to much, and still nothing compared to you. Last night, the guy that checks on our boats in Mexico texted me: "Good morning! Did you authorize anyone to take your boat?" - that kind of text will get your blood flowing. Anyway, turns out it was a misunderstanding and the boat is fine. Still, I never panicked, but quietly thought to myself whether it's a good idea to have a boat at all. Cheers mate!
I would be freaking out!! But yes cooler heads prevail! I sure would like to meet you out there cap! Thanks for your support and commenting! We should chat more..
@@sailingEV888 Yeah, for sure. Btw, we're actually started some development on the side and our first app is another anchor management app. Maybe you can try it out when we make it available? Of course, you don't have to pay anything, but it'd be fun to get some feedback. We're planning more sailing apps that when completed, I'll make sure you can use for free.
Could you add more solar panels as charging power insurance? Looking at part of video showing aft end of boat- could you move two of your current panels to starboard and port side aft positions off rail (flip up for sun or down for docking)? and get a 400+ watt large panel (new they are running around 32 cents/watt or $128 or half for used) and put either on bimini or davits. Don't remember what type of MPPT solar controller you have but you could add one. New ones like HQST 60a output mppt handling 900w pv for 12v bat bank is less than $200 or 40a version handling 600w pv costs $140. Don't know your budget but for less than $260- $350 you could double your solar power and maybe use less diesel. Diesel is around $6+/gal in Bahamas so $260- $350 is 43- 58 gals or 43-58 hrs running time if 1/gal/hr. Wishing you the best of luck and adventures in the Bahamas.
I like a serious channel. Bikini clad girl channels are not sailor channels. You're new to sailing so I get your situation. I was new once. Seasoned now. Keep learning and growing.
Yes this was last week. December 2023. This the 3rd episode of season 6. There are almost 100 videos all the way down to here. HeDing back to bahamas after 6 momths on the hard..
Paying for Adobe software is not necessary. Run Linux on your computer, lots of free open source video editing software. I've edited movies with Kdenlive. Also, I envy the headroom in your cabin. Mine is like an inch too low for my head, that can get old. (Otherwise I love my boat).
I decided to opt for a desktop PC. I mounted it to my main bulkhead in the saloon. I had it built by an editor / dit with the idea that if something broke I could replace parts via amazon.. having a macbook is great however when it stops working you have to send it in to be repaired which could take months in the middle of Florida... the desktop has been great (knock on wood) i mounted it near the mast hole so the rain dripps on it.. but its held up so far!! Full 4k editing time lines.. cost me a fortune and I hope she holds fast.. But yes if you looked at my HDMI ports they woukd be rusted.. its a miricle she still powers up.. Get a macbook. Seal it in a pelican case with a waterproof charge port.. only take it out when editing.. have a spare macbook if she goes south..
I appreciate your support! You can send a paypal to focuspuller888@gmail.com or etransfer to this address. If you need any help doing that just let me know here. I appreciate you reaching out. You will see in the next few videos. Im having a tough run this season. Currently doing engine work...
Michael, I have been following you from the beginning. You seem to have endured more frustration, disappointment, bad luck and tragedy on every leg of your journey. I get the sense you don't have the financial resources to fix your boat properly, make it reliable enough to trust your life with, make it comfortable enough to live on it for six months or so and do the voyaging you aspire to do. Add to that being a slave to You Tube and the stress of having to produce You Tube videos every week. I find your videos have become a constant tale of woes. You appear lost and indecisive in what to prioritize and do next. Make a list, prioritize it and get your boat and things in order. Forget about You Tube for a while as it is likely not bringing in enough revenue for the time and effort you have to put into it. When everything is in order and you are able to start your adventures without all the drama and worries, then pick up with the the You Tube videos again and document some fun, excitement and good sailing. I do wish you well and would like to see you realize your dream.
Michael, love your channel. It’s refreshing that you keep it real and it’s not another “glamor” sailing channel. Hang in there.
Thankyou for saying that!! Cheers mate.
