I saw you did the blessing on your trip (not the boat) and the blessing was to discover a problem where it was very easily fixed, right in Florida. Not off the coast, not out to sea. You are doing a good job as a future man of faith. Keep up the good work and continue to see your problems as blessings because they are.

Yes, take a deep breath and go where the story leads you. You know the drill. You are living a documentary.
It is such a pleasure to enjoy your production values; slow and steady pans, thoughtful shot selections and solid editing. So much of TH-cam is amateur hack crap, shot on cell phones. Sorry for your travails, but the adventure is enjoyable to watch from the viewer perspective.

You have got to be one of the most patient persons I have ever almost met. One day all of these issues will be resolved and you'll have the boat you wanted. Hang in there. It's got to get better and when it does, you'll be able to relax.

It's terrible that you are having so many issues with a new yacht. However, your recent videos are much more impactful than watching you and your guests dining and snorkeling. All boaters have been through similar issues, and how you handle all of this is admirable! You are gaining priceless experience. You are also a great testament to Marine Max. Every individual or company makes mistakes, but it's the way they respond to those mistakes is what sets great companies apart. Good luck with the rest of your journey.
Now I'm looking forward to seeing you dining and snorkeling!
    Great job!

And yet, despite it all, you are STILL inspiring and encouraging others! And there's the blessing. Listen, I never wanna come across as someone who thinks he has all the answers. That's just not me. But here's a teaching moment - "sometimes GOD will take us through something bad, to keep us from going through something worse." Key here, "take us through." It's bad - now. But it could always be worse. Even in the delay, it's still a blessing that you found out all of this before you were halfway to your destination in the middle of the ocean with your family. Again, something I know, you know. In your momentary displacement, I learned alot. Thanks for your transparent honesty. You won AGAIN! Don't know you, know you. But I would be willing to bet that you're the type of cat that this hiccup was much better accepted with just you, then to have your wife, family and friends involved. Blessins...🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Wow.......wow.....my grandpa had a placard in his boat that read "BOAT = a hole in water in which you throw money". Luckily this is all under warranty but unfortunately it doesn't matter what the initial cost of the boat is, it's still a boat. That is a real bummer, but hey at least when it's all said and done you'll have a boat that should cause you nothing smiles & laughter attacks! Cheers!

We have felt your pain. We lived on our 47’ sailboat for 2 years. Being on a boat is nothing more than a game of “Whack a mole”. The challenge is to fix a problem before the next one breaks. Good choice to slow down and get it right before making that crossing. There is too much at stake out there. Our air draft was 64’ and draft of 6’4”, so we know how to wait for tides and bridge clearance. But it’s a first world problem. Enjoying your channel. If you get stuck in Ft. Pierce again, we’re just down the road and can help with logistics if you need anything.

We have watched your journey for awhile now, and have come to some conclusions:
    1) You have either nerves of steel; patients of a saint or hidden angel wings 🤔
    And
    2) We are looking for a luxury cat for family of 5, Aquila has moved up the list, but 1 thing guaranteed, MarineMax is our go to purchasing platform 👍🏾
    3) When We Get our yacht, and things go "A lil awkward, shall we say," our new go to phrase is:
"WWTHD, What Would The Hillbilly Do 🤣"
    Be safe out there.

New viewer by way of watching Soggy Dollar video from another TH-camr, "Sailing Good, Bad and Ugly". Your attitude about disappointments is very refreshing. Had a somewhat similar problem on my last sail boat. We were on our way to the Caribbean; about 700 miles from anywhere. We had just broken a halyard that dropped our head sail in the water. Some how, while stopping the boat, we lost forward power. Thinking we might have tangled with a jib sheet we went into neutral and one crew went over to check the prop which was clear. About then the bilge pump light came on! I went below and found water was pouring through the shaft seal. The “DriveSaver” bolts had sheared of an the shaft had dropped down, misaligning the Lasdrop shaft log. After a few minutes of panic, I asked one of my crew to get me about 5 feet of small line from a locker with a large screw driver. I then then threw one end over a frame above and the other end under the shan’t and tied a square knot with little slack. I then twisted the line around itself creating a Spanish windlass which shortened the line slowly pull the shaft upward until the leak slowed to a trickle. I also had a donut zinc on the shaft already that keeps me the shaft from sliding backwards. ALL BETTER!
By now my wife had notified everyone she new ashore by sat phone and told the where we were and said she would update them every half hour of our conditions and to call the Coast Guard should we miss a call back.
We then sailed the rest of the way to Tortola without any problems. We were met by a fleet of dinghies at the marina that were helped us tie as we drifted to the dock slowly without power.

I know it's a different price point and a different vehicle, and I also realize this might have just been a reassembly error during the transmission changes but it really seems like modern boats are very similar to modern RVs in that you truly don't get what you pay for. All the bells and whistles that make things cool ultimately lead to reliability issues in the long run BUT I'd sure love to have this boat!

On your humidor. Take out the 72% boveda, or any other humidity % other than 84%. The lower % boveda will soak up the higher 84%ers.
Let it sit for a week or so to season, then remove 84% & put in lower % ones back in.
In humid areas I suggest no more than 65%, and I personally run 62% in Tennessee.
With all that said. Lol. Sorry to see more boat troubles, but it's still a helluva adventure we all love to watch.

The joys of boating!! They say that the best 2 days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I don't subscribe to that theory as I have had many boats and many fabulous days out with friends and family. Based on my own experience, if I may offer some thoughts for you to consider, I would suggest that both shaft seals are replaced while it is out of the water. If one has gone, the other will go as well. I think that the engine/gearbox alignment on the port engine needs to be checked to ensure that the shaft is not spinning "out of round" causing a wobble or vibration. With regard to the bottom paint (or anti-foul) maybe ask the shipwrights to check that the bonding undercoat has been applied correctly. If that is a problem then no bottom paint will adhere properly and you may find the same problem later on. Good luck with it. Patience and deep pockets are critical with owning a boat.

I think an unintended consequence of your TH-cam channel is probably better than average service. The marine industry service departments are notoriously challenging and Marinemax is definitely pulling some strings to get you taken care of quickly. I see some uninformed comments about Chinese build. I’ve owned several American made boats and they all have problems - hence the term “shake down cruise.” Owning a boat is a humbling experience and your patience, as hard as it may be, will serve you well. In the boat business, the squeaky wheel usually doesn’t get the grease.

You would think spending $500k-2.5M on toys means they are perfect but the fact it just the opposite.
They just need to stand behind and get through the issues that arises

After following your trials and good times when things actually work as they should, if you would have been better off in a HCB 65'. Yeah cats are much more stable, but seems you like hanging in the Bahamas mostly, and a outboard powered boat will certainly get it done. I bet the price is close to equal. Not sure if a Freeman can give you enough liveaboard space but twin outboards on each sponson seems to me a heck of a lot better dependability wise. Of course lots of us dream about cruising in a large cat, but these days large outboard cats are catching on. Speed when you need it, and IMO much easier to maintain.
Anyway, hang in there and just go with the flow. 🤙

In a service business often enough the client's energy dictates the business' energy. If the client is harried and rushed and needs everything yesterday, people will hustle to serve that as best they can, but given some breathing room they can look more deeply and see if/any underlying problems. iow, yes, take a breather and let the whole process chill a notch or two. If you have good people (sounds like it, shout out to Marine Max) then give 'em some space and let them do their thing at a normal pace and stress level. You will all like the journey better and you more so in the long run when it's finally all ironed out.

You are displaying remarkable poise and restraint. I am extremely tolerant but I would be very upset by the failures of the Aquila. I realize new boats go through a teething process but the poor air conditioning design and the weird early failure of the transmission seem more than your share. Is there any known reason for the transmission failure? Good luck going forward.

It sounds like they yanked and pushed around on the shafts while replacing transmission and moneyed up the packing gland or whatever its called, the stuffing in the stuffing box.
This is a rookie mistake and one I probably would have made myself because I've done similar things yanking on axles/shafts elsewhere until I learned. Replace the packing gland when done with a job like that it's cheap insurance. Or have more experienced person handle it. Just an opinion from the peanut gallery. When you get it all sorted you'll get back to your happy place.

Well I have to say I feel bad for you with all theses problems. I have been a boater since I was 7 years old and now 75 and I wont stop boating till I am 95 I hope.
Over the years I have found there always seem to be a lot of problems with volvo transmissions, legs and so on. Some people swear by them and otheres hate them.
I have fallowed you on your youtube videos as I do with other boaters youtube, but I have to say a few things and direct them to the manufacture Aquila, the problems you have had from the begining and till now should not happen. When you purchased the boat from the factory, it should have been inspected from top to bottom before delivery. You have to remember these boats are made for charters, as they mass produce them and as they come in from each charter things are repaired.
Its to bad you did no go with the cummins engines far more dependable for engines and transmissions. I am sorry to say and I am not trying to be rude, but I think you purchased a lemon. I have had my cummins for 10 years and never a problem. I can only hope things get better for you as it is a lot of money these days for cats.
