    This clarification has become all the more necessary in a world in which the average American Christian does not understand that repentance is of God and is not something that those unregenerated by the Holy Spirit will ever pursue.

    When I was first coming to Christ, some so-called "Calvinists" -- self-professed -- who knew nothing of the doctrines of grace, led me unto great misery by their wicked interpretation of this very passage. If only I had seen this then...
    In any case, God bless you Brother Foskey.

    The world, that is the church of God, would be a much better place if all pastors interpreted the holy infallible Word of God very plainly & succinctly like this.

    Amen. If you look at the story in Genesis it shows you exactly what he was grieved over. I heard John Piper use this passage to try to council someone who was asking about their repentance who was struggling with serious sin and was worried about whether their repentance was real. I love Piper but it was not one of his strong points. Esau clearly was upset because he lost the inheritance and that is what he sought. Not that he was genuinely repentant and sought forgiveness but God wouldn't except it.

    No, it was repentance he sought, but not his own. When he realized that Jacob had stolen his blessing, he desperately asked for a blessing also. The "repentance" he sought was for Isaac to nullify the blessing of Jacob and give it to him. That is why he sought it with tears. Gen 27:34-38.

    English actually does retain one vestige of the kind of arbitrary grammatical gender we see in other European languages: ships are always "she".

    God wants all men to be saved first Timothy 2:4, second peter 3:9!
    God, predestines groups or plurals only, never individuals. Ephesians 1 -2 points: “ us and we” are pre-destined never “you and I“! And 11 times in 11 verses from 3-14 you have to remain “in Christ“ (in him, in whom) to be predestined!
    Romans 9:1-3 Paul is talking about the nation of Israel, all the way to the end of chapter 11 ! So, “Jacob, I loved, Esau I hated“ is genesis 25:23 “there are two nations in your womb“! It’s talking about ‘Nations,’ not individuals in the whole context of those three chapters! Stop taking it out of context, along with Ephesians 1!
    Of course, we have the story of Jacob and Esau and how Esau despised his birthright !
    So God truly does love all people, he truly did make hell for the devil and his angels just as Matthew 25:41 says !
    Even the 42 youths, mauled by the 2 bears, was because they mocked Elijah‘s rapture, a.k.a. the resurrection , they were saying “go on up Baldy “ ; and ALL their prophets just recently Were killed by Elijah and they should’ve known to stop worshiping Baal! Bethel was the headquarters of Baal worship, where this took place! 490 priests got killed by Elijah, There was no Priests around,; should’ve been a gigantic clue.
    So God never arbitrarily and haphazardly deals with any human being ! His love cannot be measured says Romans 8!
    But if you’re a Calvinist, it’s “his love cannot be measured , (Wink, wink)“!
    Come out of the false belief system of Calvinism ! Now you have no excuse because you cannot out argue this, let’s hear you try!
    Read Matthew 25 the parable of the Calvinists, a.k.a. talents ! Where the guy buried his talent calling God,- somebody who doesn’t judge rightly & he was thrown into hell as a result! He had the wrong view of God, & So Will a Calvinist, they’ll have a callous view of God & The love of Christs sacrificial death on the cross!
    Jesus was crucified before the foundations of the world, but he only had to die one time Says hebrews, so don’t get it wrong like Moses; when did Jesus die ?
    So this trumps predestination before the foundations of the world, because God chose to to write this to disprove & trump predestination!
    Revelation 13:8

      @Scribeintheink if God Predestines groups only, then you have free will to Jon That group or Not? Genesis 2 teaches And Genesis for that there’s free will when God told cain not to kill his brother v 6-7

      You assert that God loves all people, then why He made the way exclusive? Or does He have another way apart from Jesus? If you look into history, God didn’t give other nations chances to know Him.

    If you have the time or interest, I'd be interested to hear more about your Calvinistic view, starting around 1:09. This sounds a lot like the Explanation of the Third Article in the Lutheran Small Catechism... and they explicitly reject Calvinism. "I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith..."

    1. I always felt bad for Esau that he got tricked out of inheritance when he was the guy bringing home the bacon & Jacob was just the guy who fried it up in the pan 🍳
    2. I always thought that Presbyterians believed in predestination & didn't believe in free will which seemed like a fatalistic belief system

      1. I would too, except that's actually not what happened at all.

      @@de5ertscorpion Thanks for the clarification. I thought Calvinists believed that if God predetermined that a person is saved that there was nothing they could do to lose their salvation .... or does one actions only impact one's temporal blessings?

    • @de5ertscorpion
      @de5ertscorpion หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sgabig The bottom line, no matter what understanding a person holds to, is that God created a universe and allowed for evil to exist. He also allowed that not all be saved. We might hope for a universe that either has no evil, or one where everyone, including Satan, is saved in spite of their red-handed rebellion against God. That universe doesn't exist. The miracle is that God saves anyone at all. And the offense was so great that only he himself could make that sacrifice. There is salvation in no other than repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ.

    • @sgabig
      @sgabig หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@de5ertscorpion OK, I'm Catholic. Our understanding is that Lucifer & the fallen angels no longer have free will to atone for their sins - they made one bad decision & were condemned forever. However, humans were given a mulligan & can atone for their sins after Adam & Eve fell from grace. It sounds like Calvinists apply the same standard of angels to mankind ....if I'm understanding you correctly

    I get your point, but even if Esau was sorry for his sin (real repentance) in selling his birthright for stew, he still wouldn’t have gotten the blessing back. Couldn’t he have been forgiven and reconciled to God but still suffer the consequences of the lost blessing?

    Pnuema is neuter, not feminine!

    • @ConversationswithaCalvinist
      @ConversationswithaCalvinist  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes I need to fix that error next time I preach. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is referred to by the Greek word for "spirit" (pneuma), which you are right is a gender-neutral term. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for "spirit" (ruach) is feminine. Thank you for pointing that out.

    Yet you believe this change is only for a select few, and the rest He leaves on the path of destruction, that's your problem.
    They misinterpret, and none seeks after God because since Genesis 4 mem have been calling on the name of the Lord.
    26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
    Where is your God changing their heart so that they believe. Did He change Abel's heart and not Cain's? Where is this written?
    No, Romans 2 shows us that the riches of His goodness, forebearance, and longsuffering lead us to repentance. It is Godly sorrow that leads to salvation, not a regeneration. Regeneration is after and only if God chooses you. If we will heart and believe Him.

      @Scribeintheink Is grace mine? Is faith mine? Did I humble myself because I want God to save me?
      No, no, no, God did all of these things. I was enmity with God, in my sins, hated God, yet God humbled me, and I became humble, and I turned toward Him, and He did convert me.
      How did God make you believe?
