A sinful man can only repent and believe by being given the ability and desire to do so , by God giving us the gift of faith and repentance. Ephesians 2:8-10.
A person has to be drawn by the Father to Jesus in order to repent and believe. John 6:37,44.
God has to elect a person for salvation. Acts 13:48, Romans 8:7. We must be chosen, Ephesians chapters 1&2.
On our own we will never choose God, unless God first causes us to be born again we will never come to Him. 1 Corinthians 2:14, John 3:3-12.

I fail to see how Romans 5:18 does not teach universalism/ultimate reconciliation. In fact it seems to be a theme in Paul’s letters.
