    Appreciate you doing these disassembly and reassembly videos on this gearbox alot mate. Need to reseal the shifter assembly as it is leaking really badly on my father's car, was a bit worried about taking the shifter out as Ford wouldn't supply a repair manual even to a mechanic (myself) and I wasn't sure if any other work was involved, I'm not to familiar with fords.

    Thanks for sharing all the info. I am planning to replace the transaxle on my 07 Focus this summer because the syncros are worn out in the current trans and my dual mass flywheel is acting up. I pulled a trans from a self serve pick and pull type yard and now I want to inspect the new trans and replace any worn out parts before I swap it. I was hoping to find out which bearing is the rear pinion bearing that could be either 18.5mm or 20.5mm so I will be able to order an overhaul kit if required.

    Thanks for the video mate, is it better to replace bearings from a kit 200/300 eu or buy low milaege second hand gear box in your opinion?

    got any idea why both halves of the case would not line up?

    • @davidpatience4682
      @davidpatience4682  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Something in the gear train is out of alignment. Possibly the reverse idler gear. When it all lines up it will fall together.

      @@davidpatience4682 i dropped in just the input and outshaft and tried to close the case. I have maybe a 4th inch from closing. If i drop in only 1 shaft... the case closes all the way.

    Is there no sealant on the reverse idler gear bolts? Seems like it would be a leak path, unless they're above the fill line of the transaxle, which it did not look like.

    • @davidpatience4682
      @davidpatience4682  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ford service does not call for sealant on these bolts.

    It looks like the output shaft shim kits are discontinued at this point. I have a 2010 MTX75. It's going to be used in a rally car and the car came with a set of Uninstaller close ratio gears. From what I can gather a new shaft or new end bearings should be the only things that change the needed shims. Does that sound correct? Hoping I can try to be precise with the end bearings being pressed on. I know I'll have to reshim the diff races as it is an aftermarket LSD going in.

    When you took that apart, did you notice any oil buildup on top of the transmission?
    I'm trying to figure out where an oil leak is on my MTX75, had to ask in case anything stood out.
    Thanks!

    Hi, nice video. I have a Volvo V50 1.8 Flexifuel 2009 which has an MTX75 5-speed manual gearbox. Yesterday, I replaced the LH driveshaft. When gently prying off the drive shaft from the gearbox, I noticed a slight suction noise as if the there was a negative pressure inside the gearbox. After the suction noise ended, gearbox oil leaked out (as expected) and I continued with changing the driveshaft. Everything went fine: I assembled the drive shaft into the gearbox, hub etc, no oil leaks or other complications. I took the car for a test drive today under heavy load and inspected underneath afterwards: there is an oil leak from the newly replaced driveshaft.
    Question: is it normal to have some slight vacuum or negative pressure in the gearbox? If not, what are the causes or potential issues?

    Hi, do you have any tips on putting back the transmission back on a 2003 ford focus, I changed the clutch, my problem is, I can't install the transmission back.

    • @robcat7499
      @robcat7499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you manage to do it? When I did it I had the wrong clutch for it. That sucked had to take it out and put the right one in. I had to use a ratcheting strap wrapped around the motor and transaxle. The subframe was dropped before I started. Used a floor jack to get it close first. Tightened the strap then twisted the transaxle until it popped in the splines. The best sound ever when it worked 😁

    I had to take my case apart to get axle c clip out. When putting the 2 half’s together is there any gasket or rtv of silicone I put between the 2 or between case And shifter assembly

    • @JohnMolesworth
      @JohnMolesworth ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m doing mine now and surprised/confused to find no gasket there. Maybe because there’s no oil pressure there it’s not required? Feels uncomfortable putting it back after all the work to get it out, knowing there’s 2L of oil sitting in there 😅
      Did you silicone gasket it or leave it bare?

      Did you find an answer to this? I just did literally the exact same thing. In fact I can’t even get that alignment dowel to break loose but I got the clip off the magnet. Wondering if I can just tighten it back down

    I have this same transmission and on the backside there is a small plate about 3” wide. It is cracked and i need to replace it. Can i do that without causing any further damage, or will it leak?

    Are different differential ratios available? I have a 2003 focus I'd like to achieve a taller gear ratio

    • @davidpatience4682
      @davidpatience4682  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are three final drive ratios available; 3.42, 3.82 and the rare 4.06. In an 03 Focus you likely have the 3.42 gear set.
