This video saved by a tonne of cash. My shifter felt loose; nothing happened when I switched gears. Two shops told me to replace the unit altogether. flipped them over this video at the 1:37 mark, and was able to convince them it was the pin after all. $400, plus the cost of a new gasket & trans fluid, I was back on the road.
using your technique! I was able to remove my mtx-75 housing... I will now proceed to swap out the open diff... with an LSD! A Legend in David Patience!. I've left a direct feature on my channel for you... so that people can jump over and learn something!
I've owned quite a few Focuses with this transmission and have never had any issues with them. Interesting to see what's going on inside. I can tell you that shift linkage pin is a common failure point in the pre-2008 transmissions.
That shift mechanism pin busted because of that hammer on top of the shift tower. I cut the hammer off of my shift tower and never had a problem again.
Nice!! I love mine. 2014 Focus with 100k miles. I put all of them on myself. Question- what’s the source of the gear lash noise when this thing warms up to operating temp? It’s a rattle that is evidently a normal sound from these units.
it is called neutral gear rollover. It is normal, but some are worse than others. Proper fluid, a smooth idling engine and good motor / transmission mounts all help.
I have a Volvo S40N 1.8 2006 which has a MTX75 5 speed manual gearbox. Sometimes I physically can't put in 3rd gear and 2nd.. fells like linkage or something needs a little adjustment. To get 3rd and 2nd I need to put it in center and then engage them again :) but this is sometimes. No grinding. Just feels blocked. I don't remember exactly which gears if there are any more.. might be 1st and 3rd.. Bad explanation but. Replacing oil? As far as I know it hasn't been replaced since I bought it nearly new 2007. 17.700km roughly. Seems to be an easy procedure? Maybe replace brake fluid can improve? Since the bearing are hydraulic assisted Any thoughts?
Hello, I have a 1997 mondeo euro Ford with mtx75 Manuel transmission. My problem is front left wheel has a gap about 4cm. I have changed left and right axles completely with new ones but no solution, I have also changed clutch kit completely but no solution. Does differential unit have gap problem? What do you think?😢
Hello friend! How are you? Congrats for the videos. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 If you don't mind ask, I would like to know if it is possible to swap the ib5 gearbox (from a ford focus 1.6 sigma 2012) for mtx75 gearbox (from a ford focus 2.0 duratec 2009), both are the same platform. Is It possible, like plug n play or does it need complex adjustment? Hope you can give some hint, and congrats for your work
Great video! 👍

Can you do a video on how to break down the input and output shafts respectively?
Awesome video. Just picked up an 05 Focus I suspect shift linkage pin to be broken bcs it’s stuck in reverse.

Great video! Thanks a lot. I didn’t get the edit of 2-3 and 3-4 synchros. Can you clarify?

@@davidpatience4682 Thanks! My mounts are all of the aftermarket stiff polyurethane type, so that probably explains much.

Is the bell housing bolt pattern the same for all Focus from 2006 to 2018?
