    I would recommend a vertical tail initially. Rather safe than sorry. Then if it flies well YOINK THAT THING AND FULL SEND 💪

    I figured it would have had a tiny rudder vane in the nozzle for artificial yaw stability, the glide tests seemed promising though

    Nice, it will fly for sure. A tail does seem to make sense, let's see how it does. 👍💪✌

    I would add a Flight Controller at least, as it was planned for the real airplane and as someone wrote here, why not a servo and a rudder vane inside the nozzle that is controlled slightly by the FC

    Vertical stab. Love the lines. You could go with small f-22 style. Note how big F-22 vertical fins are, and the angle...

  • @JustGoAndFly
    @JustGoAndFly หลายเดือนก่อน

    Wow thats one big belt printer.. you should make vertical fins on the wingtips that angle out like sideways v-tails to presever the sci fi look

    This is where the term experimental aircraft comes in. Vertical stabilizer first, trim down each flight, like you said. It's what I would do in order to save time printing a replacement airframe.
    Good luck with it,

      Yes maybe a socket for a depron fin which can easily be cut?

    • @airhammer6203
      @airhammer6203 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rcpowres yes possibly, but I was thinking a 3d print (for rigidity) then trimmed with a razor knife/dremel and file/sandpaper. As you know, it's right over the thrust tube area and there may not be enough material in this area for a slot without interfering with the airflow.

      Totally agree. I did this approach in my SA-43 Hammerhead. Started with big ones, then cut down after each flight. And now I have nice looking small stabs in this future fighter.

    Maybe a long one on top thats part of the fuse that sticks up a half inch? Or two short Stout F-22 style coming up out to a v-shape off the fan exhaust then leave them otherwise it's going to be kind of yaw ie when it flies around. There has to be some sort of vert stab or v-stab or it might yaw around

    Add a split trailing edge like the Stealth Bomber
    The trailing edge of the tailerons is split to create drag on each side thus acting like a rudder...

  • @fpvlive

    Yes add a vertical stab unless you like a uncontrollable drillbit 🙂

  • @Soshstar999
    @Soshstar999 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Fly it the way it is, and if it doesn't fly right then add a rudder or maybe even 2 half inch x 4 inch long stabilizers on the top and bottom on the rear end of the plane for low profile

  • @wingeun5236

    might need a tail as its not a flying wing, can wait to see it fly!

    At first glance I thought you may have incorporated two anhedral fins for the tail.

  • @rcpowres
    @rcpowres หลายเดือนก่อน

    Like the majority… one or two fins. I think once the fins are detached it’ll get unstable in turns. Another interesting approach comes to my mind. I always asked myself how much the aspect ratio of aHorten can be decreased. Is it possible to get a delta like Horten? The Hortendesign flies even as a flat cutout (honestly with poor performance but it flies). Maybe a series of chuck gliders with decreasing aspect ratios is helpful.

    There's a question I have regarding the battery and motor combo you use. All my 64mm rc jet build use 3 cell and I've noticed that its difficult to get a good thrust to weight ratio. Creating the lightest possible aircraft that weight around 600 grams with battery and are approx 1 meter long, Im still not acheiving a 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. In this new build you have, it's quite small but uses a 4 cell lipo. Is the power jump to 4 cell that significant? and if so, then what's the point of 3 cells in edf's. I feel like 3 cell edf combos are a grey area that everyone avoids.

    • @hotlapkyle
      @hotlapkyle  หลายเดือนก่อน

      All depends on the intake volume vs the weight and size of the airframe. I could have used a 3cell. You get 700ish grams with the 3 cell and 900 with a 4cell. Always assume 75% of the thrust when the fan is installed in the airframe

    Fin first. Or I predict it will spiral into the ground during launch.

    I have a hard time believing that it with fly without a vertical. My guess is that it will go into a flat spin at the first disturbance.

    I'd try it without because it's an experimental plane, both in the real world version and in the model universe.
    Don't be locked into conventional thinking (oh, I has to have a vertical stabilizer) or risk adverse (it might not fly, my reputation will suffer or it might break).
    We all recognize that a full size aircraft without computer control wouldn't fly well, will your model and YOU have the responses to fly it?
    So my wuedtion is: are you going to put a gyro in it right from the start?

    • @toolbaggers
      @toolbaggers หลายเดือนก่อน

      The real world version uses computers and more control surfaces to keep it from crashing.
