- The southbound road of the Mumbai Coastal Road has been recently opened to commuters in the city, offering a much-needed respite from the never-ending traffic. The coastal road is said to allow commuters to travel from Worli to Marine Drive in just about 8 minutes. To put this to the test, Tanveer and Stacy from Moneycontrol have decided to take up a challenge, but with a twist. They will compare the coastal road against the Mumbai Local train and see who reaches Marine Drive first and at what cost. To find out the results of this intriguing challenge, watch the video now.

Fixing. Taking slow train instead of fast one & going all way to churchgate when u can get down at marine lines & walk 2 min to marine drive. In traffic train will beat any road hands down

Next you go to Bandra station
Head to platform 5 and catch a fast train to churchgate
It only takes 20-25 mins and cost 10rs for single journey
The cost is almost 4x and time save is only 20 mins. Obviously I will try for experience but not use it for regular purpose

Bandra to Churchgate by Fast AC local is just 21 minutes against 32 minutes by slow train. Also he could have taken churchgate left exit and got the cab instead of going all the way to the starting point os station(Main entry). So if we optimize he could have easily reached 15mins before that means 5mins after the Cab!!
One option for the rich...other for the middle class...but now the rich will be satisfied...middle class were always satisfied 😅
How is it that you both chose an Ertiga for cab ? That must cost more than the regular hatchback cabs.
The fast local from Bandra would have saved 10 mins.
Getting off at Marine Lines (Mumbaidevi Station) is better to reach the end of the coastal roads saving Cab cost of ₹30 and also the excess time it takes for the train to end any railway terminus.
These 2 guys are good enough for novices who have recently migrated to the city.
Saves just 20 minutes! Not a significant difference at all. Only good thing about the coastal road is you need just need 1 vehicle (AC taxi) to get from point A to point B.

You didn't really use taxi services though, no taxi will go for 30 rupees. You just used moneycontrol's hired car, can even match the taxi used by both has same number.

1st of all why the hell he didn't used the fast local😂
Now do this same road trip after 1 year. Coastal road will be clogged with traffic once the induced demand kicks in, but the train will still take the same time
That the costal road is only open from 8 am to 8 pm is not something everybody is aware of
this is India's issue no development midset.In kolkata they finally after years they opened only 20% of a metro track and they are saying only on weekdays from 9 to 4.Like just OPEN IT.
Should have analysed the number of people commuting daily from Bandra Bandstand to Marine Drive vs BKC to Thane - Navi Mumbai Suburbs. That wld explain which section has higher number of users & which part is much needed by average people

There should be a serious appraisal of the graphics person. At 10:15 the cost comparison between 120 vs 435 is not really in same scale as they did with time. Or they want to underplay the cost aspect

I take the coastal road from Worli to Marine Drive and it's a dream. I don't think the two modes of transport are comparable though. My journey from Worli to Colaba has been cut down to half - about 23 minutes as against 45 minutes.
Our local is the best option for low budget people. Time does not matter against money.
Costal road option i can choose occassionally.

In this Racing Situation you must take Churchgate Fast Local where it Halts at Bandra then Dadar, Mumbai Central(Nana Shankarseth), Grant Road, Charni Road (Girgaon) and Marine Lines (Mumbadevi Road).
It's an unfair comparison. The gentleman could have taken the fast train to Marine Lines
She spent Rs 10.8 per KM and he spend 1.9 per KM travelled. This is the exact calculation majority of Indians will make and continue to travel on Trains and subsequently on Metro.

Guys ....don't ever ever compare cab fare with train fare , bus fare auto fare. It's a common calculation. Your man traveled on train with huge passengers. Train is getting profit that's why fare is cheaper same in bus. And in cab she is traveling alone the entire fuel and maintenance is for that Particular one passenger. And ertiga is 6 seater go with your 6 friends and contribute. The fare might be less that 80 rupees.....

This experiment actually proves how BAD THE URBAN PLANNING in Mumbai is. MORE MONEY = FASTER TRAVEL. This shouldn't be the case, Public Transport should be fastest and most efficient not PRIVATE vehicles. This actually makes the mobility problems in the city worse!
Try BEST bus from Bandra to Marine Drive n then compare the time n Cost with Local train...see which is economically n less time consuming

Bit of an unfair and unscientific comparison; as some have already pointed out you're comparing apples with potatoes. Secondly, what if he had taken a fast train and she had driven downtown herself? She would have had to find scarce parking and pay for it too. If he'd travelled 2nd class it'd have been even cheaper! Let's not even factor in the cost of pollution!
