    Hello Petter,
    Can I add few statistics of IndiGo please...
    1. It operates over 2200 flights daily which is possibly 7th highest in the world..
    2. It carried over 100 million passengers in a Calendar year... Less than a handful of Airlines carry as many..
    3. Market capitalisation of IndiGo is only next to Delta Airlines & Ryan Air..
    4. Its clean safety record in its 18 years of operations
    Only less than 5% Indians fly which is not even a fraction of what developed world statistics is... So Indian aviation is still in its infancy...It's indeed poised for robust growth...

    Great analysis Petter! Personally speaking and flying out of India, I believe one of the biggest challenges India faces at the moment is the scale and pace at which aviation infrastructure must grow to accommodate this rapid growth in the market. It currently does lack and it shows when you look into the finer details of parking and landing fees at most of the metro airports.
    Secondly, a lot of regulation needs to be streamlined with either ICAO standards or a more matured aviation environment like in the west in order to make it easier for all stakeholders in the industry to grow cohesively. The intra-country poaching that you touched on is still not that big a threat when it comes to pilot shortages and hiring as inter-country shift is. Most of it is due to draconian regulations making it, honestly, very lucrative for an airline pilot to just move out of India in order to get a better work-life balance vs pay. Just my two cents to your already thorough video! Safe landings

    Thanks for covering the Indian aviation market. Currently, only 2-3% of India's population flies, and the government wants to increase that number to 10%. So imagine how many new passengers will fly in the next decade. Also, among existing passengers, the concept of frequent flying was previously very low but is increasing rapidly. Before 2020, I used to fly 1-2 times a year. In 2024 itself, I have flown nearly 12-14 times.

    I'm from India and I 100℅ agree with what you said, Indian aviation is growing rapidly and they are gonna have shortage of EXPERIENCED PILOTS.
    Airline like Indigo and Air India have their own Cadet programs but still they hire from Conventional pathway too which says alot about the demand.
    But as a student Pilot I feel the quality of Instructors and Flight Schools in India isn't that great, Most of the ground instructors are not pilots themselves and the rest who are just teach for the sake of passing. Same is with flight schools they have alot of internal management issues, ego clashes, old aircrafta and very less freedom of flying.
    Until Indian authority (DGCA) does something about it INDIA is going to face problems in supply of Good Technical and Knowledge pilots.

    Firstly an amazing video like always!
    To answer some questions within my knowledge,
    1. To combat pilot shortage IndiGo has opened up Cadet Pilot Programs with around 9 different FTOs across the world and I can vouch that the intake for these programs are staggeringly high.
    2. IndiGo has started operating with its new business class offerings and I’m sure they will integrate it in their long haul A350s too, slowly shifting into a full service airline.
    3. Airbus has opened up a new HQ for India and South Asia at Delhi Airport which shows potential for in-country manufacturing or assembly plants in the near future.

Given the current supply chain issues, makes delivery of these aircraft less predictable as well. So placing a large order brings in cost-efficiency while creating a buffer for delivery delays.

    One thing to note is that Air India was once considered to be the Emirates of Asia back in its heyday. They were often the early adopters of new aircraft types like B747 however, once the company was operated by the government, a lot of things changed. For example the quality of service and just the general condition of the planes was plain awful and prices remained higher than they should have been.
    Thus the confidence in government led Air India was steadily decreasing prior to the Tata acquisition.
    On the other hand carriers like Indigo have been able to gain market share with affordable ticket prices (Air India is often slightly more expensive than Indigo) and generally with better service more comfortable planes and also a higher number of available routes with higher frequency.
    Overall seeing Air India, Indigo and the general aviation industry growing in India is great and knowing that the flag carrier will be operated by Tata group one who is renowned for their quality of service (Vistara for example) there is little doubt that one day it will be the choice for the public.

    The TATA group made a major mistake in winding down Vistara, an airline with a quality reputation for service and comfort, in favour of Air India, a brand with a poor reputation that is forever linked to the Air India 182 disaster.

    • @areekkal
      @areekkal หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Vistara was good. But it was a loss-making unit and was competing with Indian Airlines, which again, a loss-making unit. It is unwise for any business to run two businesses competing against each other when both are loss-making. This should be the reason why TATA would up the Vistara operations. Plus, Singapore Airlines, I think they have taken up some shares in Air India as they wound up the Vistara operations

    • @disconnect8051
      @disconnect8051 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The reason is vistara was a small airline compared to Air India .vistara travels mostly domestically and international few sectors only . Like LHR, and middle East, southeast Asia. Air India has wide range they travel America, Australia , Hong Kong ,Singapore , European ,middle East, south Korea ,Japan etc .Another reason is history Air India has a history Tata was the founder of Air India and no father will abandon the name of their first child .Third reason was they were not the solo owner of vistara. It was a join collaboration of Tata sai group.

    I’m super excited about how Air India will evolve. At the moment, it doesn’t look great and it’s still sorting out legacy issues and this is likely to take at least another 3-5 years. But the confidence in the Tata Group reinforces my belief that quality is going to be prioritised. Indigo’s a brilliant and very well-run low cost carrier and blows competition - domestic or international - out of contention.
    Delhi, Mumbai, and the new airport at NOIDA likely to become major regional hubs (the first two already are). We don’t have endless pools of resources like Qatar and the UAE nor the geographical advantage of Istanbul but we have a massive number of flyers and more traffic increasingly heading to regional destinations for tourism and business. So it’s going to be a less showy but hopefully as efficient in terms of infrastructure which supports the new orders being made by Air India and IndiGo.

    Also, Air India was started by TATA then nationalized by Indian government then Tata bought it back a couple of years earlier. Now ehat they want is to make it as good as it was before nationalization. They are just renurturing their baby.
