It' still a toss up. DeBrusk went from playing with Krejci to playing with Charlie Coyle, who while 1 on 1 is a very talented center, certainly isn't quite the dynamic passer that David is. If Krecji returns to Boston, I would bet on DeBrusk topping 30 goals this season.

Fowler will probably be the Ducks' first captain in the post-Getzlaf era if we're considering tenure. He's been a staple on the blueline since they drafted him in 2010, a full three seasons before the second-longest tenured Duck (Silfverberg). Plus he has the most fitting name for it.
Just to clarify the Puljujarvi thing, one of the Edmonton beat writers Mark Spector suggested that we could get a 2nd or 3rd for him, and then flip that for another player. Then another (more credible) writer Daniel Nugent-Bowman said that the Oilers would only trade him for another player outright (whether one for one or as part of a bundle, who knows). Holland said "we're not giving him away for free". Also the main reason him and Edmonton can't make a deal is basically that he sees himself as a top 6 player, they see him as a middle 6 player who would be a good defensive winger for the third line. He wants top 6 minutes (which he did get for most of the year, but even guys like Nuge and Hyman were played further down at points, so it's no guarantee for him) and top 6 pay (which they just can't afford).
I think it's a mistake JP just for the sake of moving him. I wonder if they do decide to move him and decide they are out on Kane then I wonder if they could afford to flip him to Nashville for Forsberg
Muzzin for Korpi? As a CBJ fan I'd take that; help on the blueline while Korpi gets what he really wants which is to be the unquestioned #1. Plus, as Steve says, trade him or sign him, but don't put the player or fans through the "is he gonna go" cycle again. Korpi has long been rumored as a trade target and he's never been moved. And for 2 distinct reasons. 1, the CBJ goalies depth chart *currently* goes Elvis > Korpi > Tarasov > ?? it *used* to go Elvis > Korpi > Kivlinieks > Tarasov with the intention of Korpi being traded once Kivi was ready to be the backup in Cbus. But we all know what happened. And it throws a massive wrench into the plans for the Jackets. if they move Korpi at all it will rush Tarasov's development and history has shown with the Jackets that rushing *any* player at the NHL level has not (always) worked. Pascal Leclaire, Nikolai Zherdev, Nikita Filatov; Gilbert Brule ... each were rushed to the NHL and none of them panned out. The only ones to ever make it were Rostislav Klesla and Rick Nash. I'm not including Cole Sillinger after 1 really good rookie year just yet. Bottom line is the CBJ have an asset. But they simply can't afford to move him because doing so jeopardizes an already precarious situation for them in net.
As a Rangers fan that had to suffer through Ryan Strome constantly missing wide-open chances and whose success has come only from being stapled to Artemiy Panarin, the idea of a GM thinking he's a legit $7million 2nd line center makes me want to scream into the void.
For those keeping score at home on their redraft: Edmonton: McDavid Buffalo: Eichel Arizona: Marner Toronto: Rantanen Carolina: Barzal New Jersey: Aho Philly: Kaprizov Columbus: Conner San Jose: Hintz Colorado: Chabot Florida: Meier Dallas: DeBrusk
@@ph1shstyx I mean, maybe. But adding a dynamic puck moving Dman like Chabot would be a huge plus for them. Meier wasn't as highly touted in most circles that draft year, and I still don't understand why SJ took him at 9 with quite a few more talented players available. Like Rantanen.
If nothing else this did show why people can get irrationally stupid about things at the draft floor. They get stubborn, they get angry, and they start swearing at each other. Honestly, well done. Good performance.
Steve is 100 percent right about draft night. If your top people in your organization are arguing and can’t seem to even remotely find any kind of middle ground, then your organization is deeply flawed. Obviously there will be disagreements and various opinions of what is needed but you’ve had months to prepare, get your act together on draft night.
I think you guys are right, Trocheck is a great fit here in Carolina, but as you mentioned, the going rate for a second line center is 7m ish, and with 19 mil in projected cap space(maybe only 15 mil since word is Jake Gardiner is good to play again), a few FA make decisions on, trocheck, neidereiter, necas, deangelo, along with a few fill out the lineup deals to make. Also great center depth in the org(Aho, Staal, Kotkaniemi(who would probably be taking the 2C spot from Trocheck) and both Ryan Suzuki and Jack Drury looking to make the jump over the next couple years) I just dont see a spot for him here.
This talk about Hanifin reminds me of what could possibly be a trade tree somewhere in the future, the Hanifin to Calgary trade. It was Hanifin and Lindholm to Calgary for Dougie Hamilton and Adam Fox... oh also Micheal Ferland.
They used Brodie as a bandaid in the back part of the season and into the playoffs because Muzzin-Holl were so horrendous. So they were doing Brodie-Holl and Muzzin-Brodie to basically save that second pairing. Rielly-Brodie are great together and Boosh definitely wasn’t a top pair guy but Rielly seemed to have fairly good chemistry with him despite that not being an ideal situation. Also Gio-Lily is awesome and we better see it more next season because Lily improved so much next to him.
I'm with Steve on the Marner draft. There are only two questions: 1-Do you like Strome better or Marner? 2- Where do you slot Hanifin in relation to the forwards. With those questions answered, it doesn't matter if Arizona loses their minds and draft Zboril, you've got your list.
Thomas Chabot is a player who gets a different linemate almost every game. He has to carry the load for the whole defence basically. A consistant partner would be nice for him.

Toronto is my second favourite team so I don't mean this to just attack Toronto but here's one of the problems with Toronto. Take a look at one of the big trades with the Kings. Toronto got a solid backup who had potential to be more, and a bottom-six power forward who'd won the cup. Considering L.A was in the middle of a REBUILD, the things Toronto were sending their way shouldn't have mattered because by the time they and L.A got good, Toronto would have gone on to the Conference finals at the bare minimum, and hopefully the Stanley Cup finals. Instead, the young Trevor Moore who could barely scratch the lineup on Toronto, has turned into a top-six forward on L.A and was a huge part of one of the best lines in hockey. But okay, that's just one player, well no. They also sent two third-round picks, one being a solid prospect for us and the other kind of a nobody. Now in the time that Toronto made that trade with a rebuilding team, and now. Trevor Moore and the Kings have made it quite literally as far as the Leafs have in the playoffs since 2004. The Leafs haven't gotten farther than game seven in the first round, and the Kings in their first year out of the rebuild made it to game seven in the first round. That is a major problem if you're Kyle Dubas and Leaf's nation. Another example: Rebuilding Kings trade an amazing Jake Muzzin to Toronto, Leaf's defense had been known for being lackluster and this was the problem solver. A Stanley Cup champion and top 4 D-man. Who'd the Leafs give up? Prospect Carl Grundstrom, okay whatever. Prospect Sean Durzi, ah okay well you have to do that when you want to get better so whatever. And a 2019 first-round pick..oh boy, well Muzzin is great and the Kings will be just making it to the playoffs while we're contending for the cup by the time those young guys are anything. Fast-forward a couple years...All three of those players play huge roles in the Kings becoming a playoff team. And in the playoffs Sean Durzi and Carl Grundstrom are amazing, and like I already stated, Kings made it as far as the Leafs have since 2004, in their first year out of their rebuild. So, those trades including a lot of young pieces have basically all developed now and are almost all full-time NHLers/will be next season for the Kings. It doesn't look good for the Leafs, but, there's always next year, they have these key pieces......oh wait. Kyle Clifford is horrible and hardly an NHLer anymore. Jack Campbell is leaving Toronto when free agency hits, and a lot of Leaf fans want Muzzin traded or are okay with Trading him. That's the problem. The Leafs have given away so much youth, so much potential that could help them now, and in return, it's led to absolutely nothing. Quite literally none of these players have made it past the first round with Toronto since being traded from their respected teams. To get better you of course need to trade youth, but man oh man. It's just not working for Toronto. I personally think Dubas is one of the best GM's in the league, but something drastic has to change. Like look at L.A for example. They just traded the 19th overall pick and a prospect who we drafted in the second round for a player who just had 85 points in 82 games...that player IS ONLY 25 YEARS OLD. John Tavares, Jake Muzzin, Marazak, Giordano, T.J Bordie. So many older players acquired for key youth and it leads to nothing. Maybe the Leafs need to start trading youth for not old players who are still really good. I'm sorry for the long comment but I love the Leafs and it brakes my heart seeing them constantly disappoint people like myself.
Chiarot will be this years Tucker Poolman or Derek Forbort "WTF contracts" but double the term and 25% more annual cap hit. I think GMs (and some media) forget he is a 3rd pair player. Nothing from his time in Winnipeg or Montreal suggests otherwise. The only reason why he got so much playing time this season was because Weber and Edmundson played a combined 24 games, Savard and Petry missed 20-25 each.
1. Why do they keep bringing up leaf goalies that played for the Hurricanes saying how good they were but not mention that Carolina's defense is a 100 times better than the leafs? 2. Remember how Steve said Dubas was great with trades? Well he traded mrazek and this years first for a second. So now the leafs have no starting goalie.
It's obvious where Strome will go. What team: 1) Needs a second line center 2) has the space 3) is in "go for it mode" to sign a 28yo who won't be cheap 4) has consistently been poaching former Rangers? [Brass Bonanza intensifies] This may also be why they're letting TDA test out the free market, so he doesn't get punched in the face again.
Out here worries about the backup goalie not being good enough, yet don’t have a starter signed. Why not Re-upping Soupy? He wasn’t the reason the leafs lost.
Mr Maroon played top line with McDavid, right, and stood off to the side of the net and went behind and in front of the shots, I think you forgot that Mr Lucic played 2nd line, right.
Trade theory for you here. Sidney Crosby, he's turning 35 and that's old enough to be president! Can't have a nickname like "Sid the Kid" if you're that old! What needs to happen is for him to be traded to the Seattle Kraken and then he can continue with the nickname "Sid the Squid"
The thing I have always found intersting about Johnny Gaudreau is the fact that during the regular season hes definitely one of the better centres in the league. The issue is every time the playoffs come and the rules change he and his line are repeatedly non existent. The Edmonon series is the latest example of that they had no answer what so ever when they were on the ice. If im a team looking for a 1C I personally look elsewhere. Gaudreau as a 2nd liner on a contender would work well but, calgary has built around him and I dont think hes that type of impact player.
honestly sometimes i wonder if adam has watched a game of hockey...honestly RFA Puljujarvi for the negotiating rights to a ufa goalie? how are leafs fans this delusional. i don't even think the rights to sandin would be enough
The difference in the NHL and the NBA, MLB, and NFL is that that have a large majority of black players. The NHL is I would guess 5% black which leads for their to be far less opportunity for black hockey players to get front office jobs. Canada probably has the largest number of colored players from anywhere in the world being that it’s Canada’s national sport. Most Hockey country’s are predominantly white USA (most play other sports), Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, and on and on. It’s not a social injustice it is just a numbers thing. With that being said great job Mike Grier I have always been a fan of his.

@@michaeldearby3945 if you could get sponsored you’d take it to so stfu! They can’t say they don’t condone it but have they ever said they gamble on games no? So grow up
The other draft story is probably about nylander, more than one podcast had the story before bunch of people at table arguing for nick Ritchie or someone big and slow over nylander, Shanahan left the table without saying a word and drafted Willy and then came back to table and fired 4-5 people
I don't believe the argument between Hunter and Babcock was unusual or rare. This is why I have heard older GMs say that they never wanted the head coach at the draft table. He hasn't seen the draft eligible players and also it is not his job. There isn't much for the head coach to really do at the draft. In this case Hunter would have known Marner VERY well and Babcock wouldn't, even though he might think he did. Discussions at draft day are okay. I don't think major arguments on the "draft floor" are productive. And when it comes time to draft the GM who is being paid to make the decision has to make it and that's it.
With all due respect to Dr. Haley Wickenheiser - her hockey ability has nothing to do with how good she would be as a AGM for the Maple Leafs. You have a bunch of examples of HOF caliber players who were absolutely terrible as coaches or GM's. There are obviously exceptions (Sakic and Yzerman as two recent examples), but a person's ability to dominate on the ice doesn't translate into into the skills necessary to be a competent GM or member of hockey operations.
The issue with Kase isn't the QO amount - the issue is he is arbitration eligible. If you qualify him, he can take you to arbitration and you never know what the arbitrator will award given Kase's unique player history. For a team right up against the cap, that is a lot of uncertainty to stomach.
Based on Kase' games played and stats, the Leafs could make an educated guess on what an arbitrator would award. Of course they could be off their rocker and award something that way too high but I don't think that happens a lot.
I really wouldn’t be surprised if the leafs have a set back this year. Their prospect pool is basically empty, they can’t afford an elite goaltender let alone a starter and are going to lose some major pieces. It’s really awful what happened to amirov but he would of been a great piece to have in their top six. History has proven, you have a very difficult time fixing a team in free agency without over paying. Only way this team will get there is by drafting well and that’s hard to do when Dubas trades away all their picks ffs 🤦♂️
The timing of these pods is impeccable.

Not a canucks homer, he totally should’ve been
Out here worries about the backup goalie not being good enough, yet don’t have a starter signed. Why not Re-upping Soupy? He wasn’t the reason the leafs lost.
if Florida has an awful year they will really regret trading for charot. Habs could clean up on that trade.
I would rather lick every chip clean in a pallet of salt and vinegar bags of chips then have to sit through another “you can bet that segment”
Translation: "wah."
The Leafs need an Assistant to the traveling Secretary and an Assistant to the Assistant General Manager.
You can’t compare the leagues when talking about how long it took to have a black Gm. The percentages are way different
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Bring back Panago Pizza and Crown Royal!
I would take Sandin over Jesse anyday
@@NLSNcs nice spelling lol
Steve corrects him on basic stuff like 10 times an episode lol if he used to watch I don't think he does anymore
I like skipping the You Can Bet That segment because I feel like I've saved time.
At least they make a chapter to easily skip over it. They shadow ban comments with time stamps skipping the ad segments.
Guys I love the podcast, have been listening for years, but I gotta tell ya, the sports gambling segments are starting to get a bit much. I understand ya need sponsors but man
You realize when you watch tv you get 8 minutes of ads for every 30 minute episode of anything right? That’s 1/4th the time on ads
@@WaddickLawnCare it’s nothing to do with ads. It’s the message of promoting sports gambling
@@michaeldearby3945 if you could get sponsored you’d take it to so stfu! They can’t say they don’t condone it but have they ever said they gamble on games no? So grow up
I’m thinking both kaprizov and rantanen are better than marner. Thoughts? Just a conversation, no hate
Nope not quite
Figured it out. These guys are unironic sports version of red letter medias the nerd crew
Befitting of Josh Manson to play dirty, after all his father is former NHL goon Dave "Charlie" Manson. 😂
Schwartz's smoked meat sandie 😃👌
Yo! Big fan and wondering if you guys think the Habs should select Shane Wright or someone else
Canadian born African American?? You can call him black and no one will take offense , it's not an offensive term .
I’m saying 😭😭😭
Marner over Eichel in a redraft all day
I’m a habs fan but for a joke I’d take Cambell if I was the oilers even if jack is a 9.10 or a 9.05 that’s enough for mcdavid and Leon to win
If I'm a sens fan an old beat down Giroux doesn't excite me to wanna rush out and buy season tickets. Do these guys listen to themselves 😂
Lol what does Nic Kyreos know
is nobody talking about Arniel to the jets....
The other draft story is probably about nylander, more than one podcast had the story before bunch of people at table arguing for nick Ritchie or someone big and slow over nylander, Shanahan left the table without saying a word and drafted Willy and then came back to table and fired 4-5 people
Kyle Connor being that low on the snake is disrespectful
Also her whole career she had basically no real opponents or challenges
I think the guys are forgetting that McDonough was FREE, and muzzin is worse, older and injury prone
Ryan Strome is a centre, not a winger
I take Kyle Connor at 5. That guy is a beast buried in Winnipeg. Then chabot
The leafs could of had Aho
The issue with Kase isn't the QO amount - the issue is he is arbitration eligible. If you qualify him, he can take you to arbitration and you never know what the arbitrator will award given Kase's unique player history. For a team right up against the cap, that is a lot of uncertainty to stomach.
Based on Kase' games played and stats, the Leafs could make an educated guess on what an arbitrator would award. Of course they could be off their rocker and award something that way too high but I don't think that happens a lot.
Miami Marlins GM is Kim Ng (Chinese Female)
What’s with the lame four minute commercial in the middle of your podcast with some gambling man? Really annoying
Have you ever heard of tv? Where you watch 8 minutes of ads in a 30 minute episode
What’s with the backhand hi 5 Jesse?!
1. 97 2. 97 3. Mikko 4. Mitch 5. Aho 6. Barzal 7. Kyle Connor
Yeah I'd take 2021 Joe Thornton top 2 aswell
How is Manson not even getting a raise an overpay? He's getting less than Chiarot just how???
Wait, what is the bet if they trade UP?!
1 since 67 needs a reboot. This time Steve can run the Leafs
Yup but the episodes might be very long with Steve easily distracted and overthinking.
Lou was the GM when trade was done with Montreal.
Guys you missed Troy Terry...
um where is Jesse's Boshkung glass? 😐🤨
I would call Gaudreau the bell of the ball of the free agent class, if he makes it to market I think he makes 10 mil +
Carolina is extremely cheap for no reason with Trochek and Necas.
Kaprizov would be top 5 pick in 2015 re draft
If you redraft that he goes number 3 behind McDavid and probably Marner 🤷
@@manwithamic2372 yeah maybe rantanen
