    I don't think it's Johnny who doesn't like Calgary. I think it's his wife. When he played there she split her time between Calgary and working in a hospital in Philadelphia. When the child is born they have to settle somewhere. I don't think Calgary was ever an option in that regard.

    As resident Bolt Fan...Jeff Vinik is LOVED in Tampa. For what he does in the community. For the commitment to putting a winning product on the ice. For the way he let's his HOCKEY PEOPLE (Yzerman and now JBB) RUN THE HOCKEY TEAM. There is a reason why the Lightning are annually ranked as one of the best run franchises in North American sports (ESPN). An NHL team IN TAMPA, FLORIDA out-draws their MLB TEAM by nearly 4-1 and has sold out their home games for going on 5+ years now. Tampa gets little respect because of the market but we know what Jeff Vinik has done for Tampa. He'll be a HoF'er one day.

    Why Columbus? Here you go:
    • Columbus has an excellent paediatric hospital, and his wife is a paediatric nurse.
    • Gaudreau, coming into Boston College, looked up to Cam Atkinson as a graduating player from BC (that’s why he wears #13). Atkinson was very high on Columbus as a place to live.
    As far as Columbus being able to sign Laine, that’s easy. I hear that Calgary needs a playmaking winger, and Voracek’s contract is about exactly what Laine wants. Yeah, it might sting for Calgary fans, but it’s actually a very good trade for both teams.
    Edit: Voracek has no trade restrictions on his contract.

    Except Voracek is like an acting center on the wing. That's why they got him for Atkinson , he optimized Laine's game ( point per game) and gave Jenner a career year. It's a weid dynamic but it works .

    Torts isn't the reason Bread "hightailed" it out of Cbus tho. Pretty sure he had his eyes on NYR before he ever left Russia. That was always the plan. Which is a big part, why there are zero hard feelings against him in Columbus. We get it.

    • @doomguy2337

    • @davidstefano2709
      @davidstefano2709 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@doomguy2337 They don't know the whole story. Every one of those guys who left had their *own* reasons for leaving that had nothing to do with the anyone else's, and it turned into this narrative whereby, oh, something must be wrong with the water. J's right, Panarin had his eyes on the bright lights big city from the moment he set foot on US soil. Bobrovsky had a beef with the FO and also asked for $10M, to which Jarmo rightly said "hell no." Duchene cost too much to acquire and it turns out *CBJ never offered him after the season.* (didn't want to give away the other 1st-rounder, and until this past season Duchene's contract was an absolute albatross, so well done to Jarmo there.) Dubois, we may never know, though the rumor was something was way off in the room (and that thing wasn't Torts). Jones, big question marks, though there's been speculation he left *because* Torts left. And it was clear there were no hard feelings because he notified the team a year in advance, and the return was HUGE. And y'know, the first decade, the org was basically dogs---, so anyone who wanted out before the JD/Jarmo/Torts/Foligno era gets a free pass here. So yeah, it's a lot of guys, but it's a lot of *different stories.* There's no one narrative, except in the eyes of the national media. CBJ just had the giant misfortune to acquire them all in the first place.

    So I'm watching this late, so you may have heard this already. But one of the main reasons why it seems Gaudreau chose Columbus is the same reasons that Tavares chose Toronto and Trouba wanted to go to New York -- their wives for their own work-related reasons wanted to work in the cities they wound up in. I think that's an often overlooked reason why certain players choose to sign with certain teams. It's not always JUST about the best team or the most money, they make decisions with their partners that benefit both their futures. I think all of the reasons you guys talked about as far as the other teams not being clearly ideal situations made the ultimate decision easier.

    THANK YOU ADAM! Columbus is a lovely place to live and I'm sick of all the "iMaGiNe LeAvInG fOr OhIo" from people in Canada (and Jersey and New York for that matter). People did the same crap talking about Columbus when Laine arrived.
    And I would expect some people like Steve or Adam to know better about the scenarios around players staying/leaving. This whole narrative comes from the self-loan when they went all-in on the playoffs with Panarin and Bobrovsky instead of trading them. Panarin would have left CHI also, Bob wanted a stupid contract and we didn't offer it (ask Florida fans now how much they like that contract), and Duchene was always a rental that we never offered a contract. The only one we wanted to keep was Panarin, and he wanted to play exactly in 1 place.

    Whats the matter with the Flyers is that they're basically owned by Comcast and from what everyone in the US says is that comcast is the worst ISP and TV service ever. So I expected that to trickle down to the franchise at some point. Now that has finally happened.
    Johnny's move is basically the same reason why Trouba wanted to move to NY. Wife is in the medical field and from what Columbus residents have said they have a really good hospital that does a bunch of research and such. Guy probably moved because Wife got a good job offer from somewhere in columbus

    21:40 - Not to “actually” anyone, but actually, the Jackets had the worst possible thing happen with their goalies, as their #3 guy going into camp got hit by exploding fireworks right in front of their #1 guy. Who then suffered from PTSD flashbacks partway into the season because every time the Jackets scored a goal *they shot a cannon off*!

    The blue Jackets can sign Laine and Kadri for 9 million aav each by shipping out Nyqvist and Voracek and still be 1 million under the cap with a lot of depth.

    As a Caps season ticket holder, I can tell you that Samsonov wasn't great, but the Caps played horrible in front of him. They have a habit of playing shitty in front of their starter and doing a good job in front of the backup. With that said, great pickup for the Leafs

    The talking point that Campbell only had "one bad month" with the Leafs is revisionist history at its finest. The reality is Campbell had one stellar month for the team that had him in the Vezina conversation, then had a sub .900 save percentage every other month of the season, including the playoffs. That doesn't mean he's going to be as bad as his worst in Edmonton, nor is he likely to be as good as his best. Fact is the Leafs needed to decide whether Campbell would be healthy and consistent enough to warrant the payday he got and they decided that gamble was too dangerous.

    • @B2Roland
      @B2Roland 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So they got a worse less healthy goalie for nearly the same dollars? This teams window has been shut since dubas took over.

      Also, the leafs had major inconsistancies defensively last year and only stabilized after they added Gio. Turns out that's when Campbell started getting better around the same time.

      I’m no leaf’s fan tho I love to see my country’s teams in the playoffs BUT - wasn’t this the same conversation before they signed Campbell? He was mediocre in some months but he DID give them a chance. And from the past cup champs; you need STEADY goaltending not GREAT (kuemper here) ….. this is a easy answer but it’ll go two ways. Really good. Or really really bad lol ….. but enjoy the season leaf fans! Good luck!!!

    • @manofx5824
      @manofx5824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, Campbell was stellar for the first 3 months to the beginning of January and then split roughly 50/50 for the remaining 26 games he started between good and bad.
      In the middle of the season, the Oilers looked like the worst team in the league. They sorted that out just fine.
      Murray is a risk for the Leafs and Campbell is a risk for the Oilers. I have no worries about Campbell being a disaster. The concern for Murray isn't that he can still play, but if he can stay healthy.
