Classic SDPN, haha. I like the pick-up for Toronto. I saw him a lot in Seattle last year and he was doing really well on a middling to bad team. Didn't have as big of an impact on the Flames as one would have hoped, but he'll be a good bottom 6 guy for a team which needs bottom 6 help.

I guess so, I think some people take issue with they boys being very outspoken about social issues, talking about how serious gambling addiction can be when the evander Kane stuff happened, and then saying absolutely nothing about it when people comment on how head first theyve dived into all the gambling stuff. I read something on Twitter about Gaudreau’s wife being a childrens hospital nurse, and Columbus has one of the best on earth. Maybe possibly not only looking out for himself but setting his wife up to do what she loves where she can have immense success

    • @danieldengL4R
      @danieldengL4R 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That ain't the reason. Columbus is a small market with less media attention. The negative attention superstars receive can be crippling especially after CGY Flames lost to the Oilers, Gaudreau doesn't like that & he would rather play in a market where nobody will focus on him!

    • @tylersteele5048

@@danieldengL4R “that ain’t the reason” says the guy who knows nothing about the situation. He’s consistently said “we” throughout the process. Even if his wife’s career isn’t why he chose Columbus, she was heavily involved in the situation (as she should be as his wife).

I’m so glad he picked Columbus if only to cause this level of bewilderment. Hockey fans who act like they have a perfect understanding of all the players, teams, the relationships, the future of any given team, etc. are repellent to me. Ducks fan here! Super happy you guys brought them up. Wish you guys would do it more, But all good. The Ducks I feel are going to be fine. Henrique is linked to the Penguins and Rangers right now. Plus Jakob Silfverberg is potentially going to get bought out. The guy just can’t stay healthy. Ever since his surgery he hasn’t been the same.
The Ducks I feel need to go out and get a big name player. Kadri would be an amazing fit for this team. Skill, toughness, and size. After the Bob Murray stuff that happened Verbeek has been doing a great job cleaning up his mess. He’s made a ton of progress. I could see Fowler, Zegras, Terry, or Drysdale taking on the alternate captain roles or captain role. They all lead by example. Lets Go Ducks!

Calgary was a small market team with low expectations when Johnny entered the league. He was surprised to find out that most Canadian fans will actually be fairly patient with young players in the early stages of a rebuild. He started his career the same time as Sean Monahan , and the two formed a bromance of epic proportions. The city loved them , and they had some surprising early success. But when playoff success didn’t increase , and his best friend’s role on the team started to decrease , it wasn’t fun anymore. Being away from his family was more acceptable back when he was young and a minor rock star in the city along with Sean. And even though things went well for him personally during the past regular season , more playoff failure and fan frustration/anger , and the probable end to his best friends time in Calgary being near , Johnny wanted to try and get back to a situation that existed when he started with Calgary ... a small market team in a city with fans who would appreciate him , that’s closer to home. Since his signing , I heard him say that he got the advice not to go too close to home. Columbus was the perfect situation.

Kadri: Flames (Panic overpay is still very much there)
    Bergeron: Bruins or retirement
    Klingberg: Seattle
Kessel: Flames (Lol I just wanna see Kessell on a Sutter team) But actually Anaheim or San Jose maybe? Warm and small market, kinda seems like Kessel is on a retirement tour still
    Stasney: Anaheim (Getzlaf replacement)
Niederriter: Edmonton or Calgary (whichever doesn’t get Milano)

You're right. It makes total sense to want to go "home" when you're starting a family. But, Columbus was the worst defensive team in the league last year. A bit of a head scratcher in that respect. All they did to bolster D was sign Gudbranson to what is arguably the worst contract of the FA thus far.

Instead of asking "Why Columbus?", the right question is "Why not Columbus?"
Because it's not a major hockey market? Many players prefer not having to deal with media/fans in places like Toronto or Boston.
Because he could've made more money elsewhere? After taxes, is it really that big a difference. And once you earn that many millions, is a few hundred thousand really noticeable?
Because Blue Jackets aren't a Cup contender? Neither was Tampa Bay several years ago. Gaudreau could take Columbus over the hump.

  • @iouz88
    @iouz88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

If Jiricek can step in right away and play a good two way game with his frame even at a young age, then their right side of defence is set. What Columbus really needs (despite resigning Laine at a reasonable rate (it's probably above 7M on a long term deal, but 7x7 would be "reasonable" for Columbus)) is to get another dependable center so that Sillinger and Johnson don't have to progress to quickly. My idea is to push a trade with Arizona for two good starting players in Schmaltz and Chychrun. Sending Bjorkqvist, Nyqvist, Gavrikov, Texier and Korpisalo along with other assets (picks and non (probable) NHL roster prospects.

NO IDEA)...Playing for the Devils or Islanders (division rivals), doesn't feel right, but if they pay, then he would have gone...he desperately wanted another team to come into the mix so his agent tried the Jackets. 40:36 Goaltending makes the difference. Look at Nashville in the playoffs. The year Stamkos was out after 12 games and missed the whole season and Toronto got the wildcard spot by 1 point. It's anybody who can take advantage of a team in a slump or a injury that tanks the season. I definitely agree teams are going to take the points that would normally get being there isn't a lack in the bottom 4 teams. Boston, half it's main roster out for 6 months, how does that affect them come Christmas/All-star break? Who takes their slot? Tampa would have gone 3x if the Avs didn't punch through. Only takes one piece to be different to set the stage come post season and even at that whoever makes it, can throw a monkey wrench in it by pushing through. Panthers make it to a ECF or Toronto making 2nd round.. Lightning having a injury that keeps them out of the post season, who knows.

I'm worried that he's gonna be overpaid A LOT, because while, yes, he is good, he's no Matthews, he's no Stamkos, part of it was being in Detroit, but actually, this is the year where he either shows he's got it, with support around him in Kubalik, Perron, Bertuzzi, or, he's not as great and he gets 7 mil for 5 years.

Nothing against the Blue Jackets; but if people are asking “why Ohio?”
Ohio is kinda backwards. This is known. No offense to good people from Ohio; but let’s admit it - there are reasons why the stigma is there. Once Crosby’s retired, Pittsburgh will regress to the same “Rust Belt Horse Doldrum Stigma.”

LA odds should be enticing. They should get to the west finals at minimum. Edmonton can stop them but they have an interesting comparison:
    Edm-
    elite elite offense
Average, maybe less than average defense. Average to Less than average goaltending whereas LA:
    Great offense
    Above average defense
    Great goaltending (tandem)
Rumors are Edmonton wants to trade for patty kane. That puts them over the top.

According to what he’s actually said since signing, he didn’t know that he was leaving Calgary until a day or two before free agency. Maybe if Calgary had come in with their last offer a week before he might have signed it.
It seems like if a player gets to within a week or two of free agency, he starts to think about what offers might be out there instead of what he’s got where he is. Teams that wait until the last minute to make the panicked higher offer basically don’t get their guy.
Trust me, Columbus did exactly the same thing with Panarin.

It's easy for Hockey players in the US to live fairly anonymously.
Do you think Payton Manning or LeBron James could live anonymously in small town USA?
In Canada it Hockey Football Baseball Soccer NBA. At Christmas the world junior hockey championships are as much a part of the holiday has US Thanksgiving and football.

Hard for Calagry to have town after town scrunched up beside each other when it's next to 2564 Square mile Banff National Park. Doesn't change the fact that in October and November all those little towns will be watching Buckeyes football before they'd watch a blue jackets game. And bangles until January and Cavaliers all season. And During Playoffs the Guardians. Lol

Meanwhile Brisebois hasn't proven he can actually build a team without stevie lol He's real good at over paying his middling players and winning cups against terrible teams. We'll see how long that works out.

I wouldn't call sergachev an overpayment. Also once the season starts they are going to be under the cap because they have 8 dmen on the roster once bogosian is off of IR. That means they can send down one of their other dmen and that will put them officially back under

If his family lived in quebec he would have gone closer to quebec. He just wanted to be closer to home. Philly didn't want to trade away their first round pick to get rid of jvr. New jersey is an old rival of flyers and it was flyers or somewhere not new jersey. The islanders offered less money. Plus he asked a lot of former players that played in Columbus that had families and they had nothing but positive things to say about it. He also asked about whats better for distance and they all said close but not too close. Columbus is a 1 hr flight home. That's plenty close but not too close to where he has to worry about his parents being around him every single damn day. Also calgary waited until the final minute to offer him their best deal. That probably pissed him off somewhat too because for months they said they couldn't afford to give him that money then all of a sudden poof they can afford it?
