      If a relative insists on keeping a child’s abuser in their home, cps can’t legally place the child there. Regardless of how hot it is outside. I feel for Grandma, but the state writes these laws, not the social workers. Social workers desperately need more time to track down family members and sit with them until they understand their rights. Unfortunately they don’t. Hand-holding requires the agency get paid enough to fund that kind of manpower. Honestly I wish CPS could move people in to provide intensive parenting and life skills coaching for these families ; we’d have fewer terminations that way.

      @@kathymcgirt8944I guess the problem is The ADA seems to be more concerned on trying to trip her up. A single eviction from 6 plus years ago when she's been in a stable place for just as long. Makes no sense to even bring up. I also don't like the fact that she didn't hear her and automatically assumed or made the statement that "did she confess to having a criminal pass?" If she was really being impartial she would have said I'm sorry Can you please repeat that I didn't catch that . Fact that everything that woman said she was trying to jump to conclusions about, dismiss, or look for any way to make her look bad is why so many people do not trust the system. I get that everybody has a job here but her questions seem more badgering And assuming than actually trying to get somewhere with what's going on. She also continued repeating questions that were obviously answered. Her legal reason for not kicking her daughter out makes sense trying to fight that in court for an eviction on top of Fighting for The child would be messy and probably cause that kid more harm. Yes, I wouldn't return the child to the household where The mother is. But Grandma is moving And has made statements that she has proof that she's making all the effort to move herself. The problem with how this carried on is assuming that she's guilty and she's a liar and all of this when we are suppose to have a system that's supposed to take you at your word until you prove otherwise or they can prove otherwise. It doesn't seem that they're interested in helping suitable family members make sure these kids don't end up in the system. They just seem like they're already painting these people as terrible , because one of their family members is struggling with whatever. Notice how she only asked if she had a move out date and when Grandma expressed that she was looking and she wouldn't have any money until certain time. I didn't hear anybody chiming up to offer up information about services that could help her along could get her the place she's looking for. I agree with the above comment. It just seems like the system wants to tear these kids away from the families because it's quicker and easier than actually spending the time and resources to help potential family members retain these kids

      She seriously drove me crazy, I think most lawyers have the important question. S written down then builds off those. It seemed like she was trying to think of ways to discredit this grandmother but unless you have ever had an addict in your immediate family people don't get it. I have 2 niece's who are addicted to opioids and were iv drug users. My niece on my side has lost all of her kids (3) except 1 that is the one she had after she spent almost a year in jail and finally took her sobriety seriously. Then my husband has a niece that has lost her 2 kids to the same opioid I'm sure you can guess which one. She is clean right now but you never know when that is gonna change and her brother died from the same thing. He had 4 kids he had lost all right to 2 0f the 3 of the 4 kids he had.
      I watched my sister beg and read for her daughter to get clean

    Gma sounds teachable, and willing to learn along the way. As a foster mom, these are the parents who do the best w/ reunification. If drugs are involved, the children are more often than not, TPR’d. When parents were just parenting the way they were parented, the reunification is almost always successful. I understand gma is not the parent, but she did clarify how she now would parent differently, after parenting classes and therapy.

Grandma has many excuses....she didn't know she could try for custody, she can't tell her daughter to move until its guaranteed the children are coming, the 100-degree days will not matter if she gets the children, she dosent have a place for the children but when income tax comes she will, she expects responses regardless of the time. Dosent she has to go through a legal eviction to have the daughter move. She also stated the daughter hasn't got all of the help she needs because she is being stalked, harassed etc

    Mrs. Wheeler is wonderful. She's already raised her kids and now she's taking on more and one with special needs which is a huge responsibility. As the mother of an autistic adult child, I know that it's rewarding, but it can be exhausting.She's purchasing a larger home to accommodate them and she will be home with them 24/7 as her job allows her to do. Her daughter using drugs and hitting her children is a disgrace and she should be grateful and happy that her mother has stepped in to do her job in loving and caring for her children. I wish Mrs. Wheeler and her family the best.

    CPS has to be overhauled. Workers are power hungry, arrogant, and dangerous. They think they should have the right to just walk in and take children. It's finally coming out how the outright lie, or don't tell you how to resolve the situation. In the cases where children are put into homes get abused their never held responsible. The whole system needs to be dismantled.

      I absolutely agree. I've seen cps do so much more damage than good in several cases, I think they need dismantled and should be abolished. They're so quick to take kids who shouldn't be taken, and leave kids that should be taken, and I've seen where they've put children in their care in medical trials, using them to test medications. They actually get bonuses/ extra funding for taking kids with medical needs and handicaps. It's a dark world, I can't figure out how so many of these caseworkers sleep at night after destroying the lives of so many kids and families. They're basically legal kidnappers.

      As a former foster youth, I have said for years that CPS workers need to be licensed social workers.

    • @northernsiren
      @northernsiren 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Society needs to be overhauled first. CPS is a thankless, difficult job with an incredible amount of responsibility for very little in return. Regularly these folks are forced to make decisions which can mean life or death, with virtually no resources for safe temporary housing for kids while situations are investigated or resolved. The overarching philosophy is always reunification, whether it’s in the childrens best interest or not, and kids are kept in limbo during that time.
      The undercurrent of society is that these are someone else’s kids and it’s on them to pay for it, so CPS/DCF are chronically understaffed and underfunded. Very few people who spent 100k plus for a Masters degree in psych and did 3000 hours of post degree work to get a license will work under these conditions so the people willing to work in these agencies are many times unqualified or disinterested, add to that being burned out and disillusioned with the work. I saw a job as a supervisor for the entire western part of my state where the salary was 48k a yr. I wouldn’t do that job for double that. One mistake in judgment, one report that a subordinate didn’t file or misfiled could mean a child dies, and as supervisor guess who that falls on?
      There are very few jobs with that level of responsibility which receive such incredible hate from all sides, why would you do that when you, with those credentials had other options? I worked in adult outpatient for many years and was able to do my job without any of those stressors and the same level of education. Take a look at how much hate and blame CPS ALWAYS gets in situations like this, no one wants to acknowledge how difficult the job is. And folks who say if you can’t do the job quit assume a great deal in the sense that there’s a huge pool of applicants for these positions. There isn’t.
      Are there problems? Absolutely. Look at how many people on this one case are getting paid to be present on this call alone. That seems unnecessary. But to say “it needs to be overhauled’ without any suggestions or really any understanding of the greater societal and systemic issues that profoundly shape how CPS functions we will never find workable solutions.
