    Nice to see a pack review that doesn't just devolve into an inventory of what guys carry in it. I'm glad it doesn't have a built in water bottle pouch, I prefer packs that are more modular and allow me to decide how to configure it.

    I’ve used this pack for many years and it is still rock solid. I use for an everyday work bag and use it very often for my overnight camp bag for my hammock. Love it and I’ll be buried with it.

    I'm waiting for a 5.11 sale! In 2017 I bought the Rush 12 which I find very useful for traveling, but it's a little large for a day pack. I get lots of complaints from friends that it's too big. First, is it really any of their business!LOL I added a liter water bottle holder which adds width to the pack. I also purchased a canteen/cooker set with Mollie that I can set up for day hikes and a dump bag for collecting wild goodies. Anyway I need a smaller pack was thinking of the MOAB 6 but it's too blocky and can't hold a laptop. Also, I like that the Rush MOAB 10 has webbing for outerwear.

    Regarding it not having an external water bottle pouch: That is the beauty of MOLLE webbing. You can attach a water bottle pouch, or other accessory, to the MOLLE system!

    I got the same slingpack same color. I use for work I have a condor water pouch on the side. And I attached 2 pouches on the main molle side of the pack. I carry my lunch an drinks and everything I need. True it needs a dedicated water pouch. Overall I've used this pack on trips and as a edc. I'm happy with it.

      I have this same bag in Double Tap. I also utilize the Condor Water Bottle carrier attached to the side and have had zero issues in over a year in this configuration.
      Occassionally, if I'm taking a little more gear, I use the Tier Straps and use the Double Tap 2 Banger Bag attached to the front. Very versatile day pack.

    Is this the sandstone color? Online it looks so tan! Every video tho it looks so much more green!

    • @thelonestarpatriot
      @thelonestarpatriot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it's the sandstone color and it does favor slightly more on the green side than the brown side. Just for reference, Maxpedition's khaki color matches almost exactly to the 5.11 sandstone color.

      I own one in this color. I bought a US mil surplus canteen with pouch in "coyote" and attached it to the molle webbing on the front of the bag. The colors match so well it looks like it came that way stock.

    The Velcro mesh pockets on the main compartment aren’t opened from either side for ambidextrous carry. Each side of the Velcro mesh pockets are separated into their own individual compartments. The zipper part though, is definitely ambidextrous.

      That was one of the other packs I was considering but it really depends on the context and purpose for the bag. It's certainly a quality bag as well.

    very thorough review. and a big thumps up to that! Please allow me to raise 2 questions to you and your viewers . What is the idea of sling packs? Why a sling pack? Try to answer that before you continue reading.
    Now that you have your answers, let's see if yours match mine.
    1. sling packs are obviously designed for smaller, kind of EDC items. it gives you access to the items without removing it from your body.
    2. as far the as the Why goes, it's the weight distribution and the maneuverability.
    The concepts are all good on papers, right? It seems so, but I'll not have any slings, again.
    Have a look at a sling's closest rival, a messenger style bag, and you'll know what I mean. Messenger bags, in general, are designed for a much looser fit, which means all the weight is handled by 1 side of the shoulders and that's it. A sling is supposed to transfer some of that weight onto your back, so theoretically speaking, it should be more comfortable, and you can run with it, since the pack contours your body. Wrong! While the idea of weight distribution works to a certain extent, all of the slings come with a different setback, namely the shoulder strap. sling packs fit the wearer's body diagonally, and to achieve that weight distribution, and maneuverability so you can run with the bag on you back, it has to be pulled closer to the body. At some point, you'll find the shoulder strap digging into your neck. try swinging it. let's say, 10 times back and forth. and you'll notice a mild pain right where the strap digs into your neck. Of course, this problem can be remedied with a polo shirt, or any garments with some level neck collar. To get rid of that pain, you're gonna have to loosen it a bit, and the idea of weight distribution and maneuverability is eliminated.
    Don't even get me started on the orientation of the pockets. Most slings are fabricated with pockets vertically oriented. that's why none of them can accommodate a water bottle. you put the items in vertically, but when you swing it to the front, you have to get them out horizontally. Isn't that kind of awkward to you guys? For me, it's definitely is.
    I used to have a moab 10, but I had to sell it because of the aforementioned reasons.
    Now, I'll go with small-medium sized messengers over the slings, in a heart beat. smaller messengers will mitigate your temptation to load it with 80 pounds of gear, the pockets keep their orientation both on your back and front so your items stay where they are, they come with a pocket, if not 2, for your water bottles, most of them are now decked out with a stabilizer strap across your hips to secure them in place, hence, you can kind of move freely with the pack out of the way.
    that's just my overall opinion. Don't let that prevent you from getting a sling. If you prefer the feel, and the look those, sling it! For me, I think I'm better off with a small size messenger pack.

      Thanks a lot for the full and useful explanation. I already have a messenger bag from 5.11. however I am using more often my bike to move in the city. I love taking my Nikon camera with me when I ride, therefore the messenger bag has very limited space. I would like to ask you, Do you think on the Moab 10, a 13 inch laptop would fit inside with a camelbak (undertanding the risk of water aside to my laptop) and on the front could have space to my DSLR camera? Thanks in advance.

    • @nguyenduc3708
      @nguyenduc3708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angex79 I don't think the laptop can fit nice and snugly . moab 10: height approx 46cm, length: approx 23 cm. a typical 13in laptop's length is 24cm. Maybe if you force it hard enough, it can get in, but it's gonna be a very tight fit. the bag has more space than you need for the camera and reservoir. A sling can carry a 13in laptop + space for camera and water-reservoir-compatible? You might want to look at the Vanquest Javelin for your loadout . it's big enough for your laptop, since you're carrying a camera, the bag has a system of dividers ( separate purchase) for all the lens, accessories, and whatnot.

      @nguyenduc3708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jason Sinatra That's awesome. I guess packs in general are like clothes. we need to try them on to see how they fit. Unfortunately the Moab 10 is not really the best fit for me. If it's working for you, stick with your system.

      I use a sling pack because of my commute, I can just spin it around into my lap when I take a seat on the train instead of taking it off like a backpack.

    Nice video but I don’t get why so many people don’t know the difference between a pocket and a pouch. I mean do you call the pocket son your pants as pouches? A pouch would be what one would attach with molle to pals webbing.
