Is it worth having both the 12 and 24 or is the 24 too big for what the 12 is made for?

I debated between the Rush 24 and the Maxpidition Livthor for a long time. Cost wasn't the issue for me, functionality was the main issue. After watching this, drove the 40 mins up to 5.11 today and picked the 24 up. Thanks for your review Sootch!

This may very well be the best carry on bag for an airline you can have. The organization is outstanding and it’s built like a tank!! I take mine on 3 or 4 day trips constantly and it’s perfect! Never had a problem with any airlines using it as a personal item.

I have had the 24 for years it has literally gone all over the world. It has seen several countries in the Middle East and all but 4 countries in the EU. It looks as new as the day I bought it. I can also attest to the fact that the sternum strap won't fail. It has held up to daily patrol use over a plate carrier and not once came undone or broke.
PS..ATF says you can shoulder the pistol brace again.

I've had a Rush 24 bag & use it as a EDC bag for the past 4 years... Best bag I've ever owned, hands down; great for working on the rig in EMS & nice to pack essentials. Great review, Sootch!!

I have a Rush 24 and I love it, I've added a molle first aid pouch for easy access and have used it as my main backpack for two years now. I love the way it rides on my back and shoulders, particularly when I am wearing my winter gear. I live up in Canada, am 6'1" and 210 and this fits perfectly over my parka and other winter clothes.

Johnboyey - Arizona is not the Sahara, it's way less sandy looking than you may think. Same with New Mexico and Utah. It depends which pocket you're traveling through. Most of it down south is shrubs and thin trees. Up north, it's really green like around Flagstaff.

Been scouring the internet for bug out bag, last one I had I had everything in it but the kitchen sink. The 511 24 caught I eye simple by your video. The clarity in the video, slow approach in pointing out the various compartments and the pros and cons. The only thing not mentioned unless I was sipping my coffee at the time was the weight. Other than that excellent review. Gonna check out the purchase now and also subscribed. Keep up the great work!

ive had the rush moab 10 for around 6 years now. same construction just with the one strap, makes a great bag for the city. I can attest to the water resistance. I live in the UK and our rain is unrelenting. I've been soaked to the bone before now completely drenched and while the bag seems saturated on the outside its kept all contents bone dry, carried a lot of paper in college and spare clothes so it was a life saver.

I have this pack in the 37 liter version. I use it as my primary range bag. I added two 8 magazine carriers that hold my fully charged mags in the bottom of the main compartment. My Sig 226 Legion goes in the padded hydration compartment in the back inside a small soft pistol case. My Sig 229 Legion goes in the concealed carry pouch in the front. I carry two pairs of ears in the middle of the main compartment on top of the mag carriers. The front facing compartment stores all my cleaning supplies. My mag charger goes in one of the upper pouches. I keep some rolls of target pasties in the top of the main compartment. First aid kit goes in one of the mesh pouches and I keep a tactical tourniquet in one of the water bottle side pouches. With all that there’s still room for you keys, wallet if necessary, you can even fit a holster in the main compartment if you don’t want to wear it to the range.
As you pointed out you can always add Molle pouches to the outside, which 5.11 makes a ton of. Personally, I’m of the similar mindset, I don’t have anything on the outside aside from a name tape and a Velcro patch.
It’s nice to go to the range with 2 guns and 16 fully charged mags along with 2 sets of eyes & ears as I enjoy taking people to the range and introducing them to the shooting sport.
Amazing pack, better than any so-called range bag that I’ve ever found.

My emergency bag is actually the Rush 72. It looks pretty similar to the 24, just the side pockets stick out more and that top pocket isn't split, it's just one large pocket. Definitely can't recommend it enough. so I would guess the 24 is just as solid. I just love the number of inside pockets. So many bags don't utilize the space in the main compartment, just make it one big compartment, but there are pockets and pouches all over the inside, making it easier to organize things.

I use the Rush 72 as my BoB, and the 24 as my EDC/ laptop bag. Great bags! Organized but not overly so, and bullet proof. And 5.11 Customer service is the best I’ve ever had to deal with. Excellent support.

Recently got the tactlite pros as black trousers for work. Pants get dusty so i wanted something more rugged. Love the d-ring and the all the pockets.

With that said its cause it's made from 1050 nylon its heavy even when it is empty. It the back of the pack where the plastic card is I use area that to place soft body armor pad. Great review !! Well made back pack , you get what you pay for 10/10 recommendations, VERY tactical

Must admit, a couple of years ago I was very excited to get my hands on the larger version of this pack at a Brick & Mortar store (The Rush 72). My credit card was screaming in terror as it knew it would soon leave the warmth of my wallet... But I decided to examine it before buying. Glad I did.
I ended up checking it twice, as the pack just seemed too small. I checked to make sure it wasn't the smaller Rush 24. Then checked it again. And I'm not a giant. Found a couple of issues with regards to stitching as well. In the end, decided it wasn't for me. Overall, it was a good pack. But if anyone orders the 24 online, be sure they have a great return policy. The 72 felt like a 24 in my hands. The 24 might feel like a Rush 12.

I need a "solid" pack for hunting and extended hiking and will head out tomorrow to a 5.11 dealer that hopefully has the Rush 24 in stock to handle and check out. I'm thinking it's just a matter of them having a color I like and I'm all in. Thanks again!

Great minds think alike my friend. I purchased the same bag two years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba and use it for my survival bag, separate from my bug out bag and carried them in my vehicle together when needed. I have fractured vertebrae and am not supposed to lift, carry etc more than 25 lbs so two individual bags moved separately to have what I need. I love mine for all the features you mentioned. Two thumbs up.

  • @acumark66
    @acumark66 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I've had one for over three years. I bought it and used it for nursing school and clinicals and still use it as my work bag for the hospital. It has one wear spot on the right shoulder strap where its sewn into the yoke that separated so I repaired it myself. ( I usually just sling in over one shoulder for short distances). it's been a fantastic bag and over three years later it's still in great shape! My only gripe is that there is no decent waist belt to attach to it, so I use a different bag for my bugout that has a waist belt. If 5-11 would come up with an attachable molle waistbelt I think it would greatly improve the "system" and I'd probably buy another! Cheers!!

I actually ran an obstacle course race with a 5.11 Tactec plate carrier with two 8.75 weight plates in along with a Rush 24 pack that belonged to my teammate. I was super surprised how comfortable the pack was; much better than my old Marine Corps ilbe 3 day assault pack. I think it’ll be great for certain endurance events I plan on doing next year.

Great review! I have a SOG tactical barrage pack that is 75% or more the same with all the compartments as the 5.11 Rush 24. I really like it and its a little cheaper too. The material on the Rush 24 is probably a little better though. Always enjoy your videos.

I love bags and bag reviews. Been a huge fan of bags since my early Cub Scout days and to this very day. Problem I have and that we all share, is that I don't have enough gear to pack out each one to my personal preference. My EDC bag has been the Maxpedition Falcon 2 for the past 6+ years. Still looks brand new. Even the red Sedona mud wasn't capable of staining it. Color me impressed (pun intended).
Does the large water bottle pouch have a grommet on the bottom for drainage? If a water bottle were to leak, do you think it would be sealed well enough not to leak into the main compartment? I could see those elongated pouches being used as a location for a spotting scope or other optics too.
I've had one water bladder rupture on me in the past and it did not have a grommet(s) for drainage. Later that night I needed a change of dry clothes, but did not have any as a result of the rupture. It was a very cold, wet night. Thankfully my toilet paper was not damaged. One of those moments that really reminds you how lucky you have it back in the civilized world.
    Another great review as always.
Keep up the good work my friend.

I live on the west Coast of Canada. It rains here quite a bit. This bag is not water resistant. Ziploc bags are your friend. It is a great bag. I don't like the goofy velcro tabs on two inside pockets. I don't see how they are even useful, more of a nuisance actually. Haven't cut mine out yet, but thinking about it. I would have preferred those pockets be AR mag sized (like my camelback BFM). Good video. Found it searching for a waist belt. These bags should come with one.

I have an old 24 that I use for a "Home-Away-From-Home" bag. I use just about every every Molle loop on it.
I agree with that sternum clip. It has a real bad habit of coming undone and its kind of pain to put back on.
Another minor complaint is the position of the comp-straps on each side towards the top. Those interfere with larger pouches/gear lashed on the side.
Other than that, I love mine.
I would like to see 5.11 come out with a '48 Hour' bag as an in between from the 72 and the 24 though.
Quick edit: If one uses the side loops, Quick-Strips from Blackhawk are an absolute must.

I've used the 24 for about 5 years now I think as a carry-on and main luggage pack. It a good bag, I can live out of it if I pack carefully for a long time. Only downside is the dang thing is heavy!
Wish the side zips would hold a nalgene or that it had a water bottle pouch on the outside. I put a rothco bottle holder on it but usually use it to hold my rain jacket because it bangs my elbow.

I used to EDC a rush 24 (work computer at the time wouldn't fit in the 12) until a customer freaked out about it having a hidden pocket for weapons, so it's been retired to the range bag. Even though it was abused as my EDC bag it's been abused more and held up well as range bag holding a 30-cal ammo can filled with 40S&W, 2 pistols, and the day essentials for the class that we hiked into. But I know the big thing for this pack is to get additional compression straps for the bottom and a waist belt if you're going to use it for long walk. Either way it's a great pack I would buy another one.

Change out the sternum strap buckles with split key chain spring or a small carabiner, More secure but still adjustable.

Try waterproofing your bags with a mixture of mineral spirits & silicone caulking. Not sure exactly the ratios of each. I think this also may be useful on other items as well even leather.

Even tho I prefer the Marpat ILBE with assault pack, I can attest to 5.11 bags. They're great. While I pack mine differntly than what you showed on the video, it's a great bag. The waist and sternum straps go on mine (they get in the way of my tac vest/rifle mag pouches and the waist belt gets in the way of my pistol belt and extra high capacity mag pouches. Aside of milsurp gear ( which I always prefer ), 5.11 makes great stuff, way better than Maxpedition IMO

Great review video Sir, I am most certainly going to purchase one of these in the near future to supplement my Rothco 3 day Global bag. If I had done more research, I would have purchased this bag first. I was overly concerned with obtaining all of my Bushcraft gear from the SelfRelianceOutfitters webstore, and they do not have the best selection of backpacks, however if you're not familiar with the site, I suggest you check it out, they have a wide variety of common man gear at common man prices. Thanks for the video!

If you're just going for a day hike get the 12, if you are camping overnight get the 24. If you're a hunter get the 12 as well. The 72 is for multiple day hikes and or camping.

@@urielcalderon3133 Sorry only just seen this! Ended up getting the 24, 12 seemed a bit small, use the 24 every day for work too. Put my training kit in for sports, lunch, water and all my EDC stuff in the smaller outside pouch. Great value and hardwearing - been overseas no problem; bashed about aeroplane holds. Expensive but totally worth it for quality. Buy cheap buy twice.
