The US's strongest team is a bunch of old guys on their way out. If the excuse is "we didn't have Lebron, KD, Steph", then team US isn't as strong as you think. You should take pride in the fact that team Germany played sound fundamental team basketball and won. You should not feel disrespected at all.

@@xieulong lmao are you joking? Lebron and Steph just averaged 29 last season and KD averaged 26. Then just look at all the younger superstars they have to choose from: Tatum, Booker, Bam, Donavan Mitchell and the list could go on.
Another overlooked aspect of national ball is chemistry. USA has a different collection of all stars every year, where other countries have set rosters that play together for years. The level of cohesion and trust is on another level. Basketball is all about which team plays together better, not which team has the most individual talent.
Totally agree. Germany can simply leave out nba guys like Kleber because they knew he didnt play at eurobasket, so they put their trust into the already existing core that is playing together for years now

As an American, I like seeing Team Canada, Germany, Slovenia and other having players I know.
This is an international sport. The idea that USA is "always" the best has been proven wrong.
I think the NBA need to tweak the schedule for when the Olympics are happening or certain Olympics. I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Olympics.

Something people are overlooking is what about injuries? These older men, namely, LeBron, Steph and Durant are going to need more time to recover that tends to happen as you get older. Get older. Don't care how athletic you are. Also. Anthony Davis is plexiglass. He's an injury just waiting to happen. So I don't think it's a certainty that the United States is going to win in 2024. A lot of these foreign teams play together frequently and the US typically just slaps a team together. Prepare for about 3 to 4 weeks and then play. That's hard to compete against.
I agree, I think that's a reason the world cup team looked the way it did. They focused on young players. Durant, Curry and Lebron are all in their mid to late 30s. Years above the average retirement age of NBA players and past their physical prime

I think it would be pretty cool to have the NBA Finals winning team play for the USA. Sure we have the entire league to pick and choose the very best for each position, but it would be cool to see if the NBA champs are truly world champions.
I know it'll probably never happen. With the championship team already playing an extended season over other teams, expecting them to compete in a global series after that is hugely unfair to them in shortening their already shortened off season.

That roster has the same problem as the last. Not enough big men. Jaren Jackson Jr only plays the 4 in Memphis and they put him as a center. He would be a much better choice than Randal. Also if Ja can play Levine would have to go unfortunately.

It's because if you have a superstar that has an edge over a potential superstar roll player, that roll player ain't gone be able to do or get away with things like a superstar can. More than likely that 3/4 of the Team USA will be in the NBA Championships and Finals. Schedule will be difficult for them. However, these guys will gel fast.
Lbj,curry and kd just cant keep up that tempo anymore, europe is way to fast for them now, they need Dame,Morant,Zion,Beal,Tatum, Booker to compete
I don't like the idea of going with all the old guys. Rather than just dumping a lot of superstars into the team, look at where the weaknesses were and fix the problems. Build a team rather than just picking the biggest names. USA scored fine but lacked height, rebounds and at times defense.
Yeah since it’s a young team they were lacking fundamentals because of AAU and in Europe it’s different than the USA
The only big guy in the centre position proposed is Green. Green played in Tokyo Olympic gold metal game and was not effective at all. Team US seems to stick to the small ball mentality and do not care to address the big centre problem in FIBA games.
They also lack Coaching Staff willing to make tough decisions for certain players in the right moments. If bogdanovic or schröder have a bad game they will sit. With Team USA they stupidly ran their already existing rotation no matter if somebody was off or not.

How about we swap Booker with Jimmy Butler in the starting lineup (set a defensive tone while still having enough shooting).
Starting Lineup: Steph, Butler, LBJ, KD, and AD.
Second Unit: Lillard, Booker, Tatum, Draymond, and Brook Lopez.
Remaining 2: Klay Thompson and one more BIG in Bam or Jarrett Allen.
If they only want to carry two BIGs, then add PG13 to the squad or pick one of the following previously mentioned guards under 6'3 (Fox, Kyrie, LaVine).
If the US thinks it can’t win without begging 39 year olds like Lebron to help, the future of US basketball is bleak.

It's easy for them to talk now let's see how they feel after the next NBA season is over. They will all be 35 or older and Lebron near 40.
It's easy to think that just like the Dream teams of 20 and 30 years ago that team USA can just simply out talent their way to a gold medal. If the last several international world cups and Olympic Games have shown anything it's that not only is the gap in talent between the US and everyone else shrinking but that the modern generation of NBA players are comically unprepared for how the game is played internationally.
Even the team in this world cup was full of 3rd string NBA stars that were still far more individually talented than any other team. But they didn't play as a team, by and large they are too used to being able to use their skill and athleticism to make up for their lack of team play. When they find themselves in an environment where the Refs don't bail them out and they aren't facing opponents that will just allow them to ISO all the time they really don't know what to do.
Germany was a very deserving winner of this tournament they played crisp disciplined basketball the entire way through.
Let's not forget that if the U.S. wanted to, they could use Dwight Howard and Carmelo Anthony.

I'm french, and i can say without a doubt that if don't change something we won't be a threat. We do have young talents but they are too rough. We do have talented vets* but everyone knows how to shut them down. We do have chemistry but batum literally destroyed the whole federation on his postgame interview against latvia (and the coach admitted he deserves to stepdown).

I watched a professional player interviewed and said playing international is tough and different. Just because you are the best of the best in the certain league, it doesn’t mean you can dominate the international because it different. Also the chemistry of the team you play with is important. You don’t play with your name in international, you play what’s written in the front of your jersey your country. Not the name at your back.
