I wouldn't say that the size the americans have wouldn't work, thereare teams who play like that and switch a lot. The US also switch a lot, but they block barely out also germany was going very hard for the off reb, often with 3 dudes.
The US problem was not the talent, it was the team mechanism during all the tournament. The help defense, blocking out , switch back/help missmatches ...
They didn't lost because germany had a good shooting night, they had a even better one keeping then in the game ... They had better percentages and the more difficult looks, and yes you may say better player makes more difficult looks as good - but the germans can shoot and Obst had clean looks like never before and he is probadly the best shooter on the court if you rule out shooting someone into the face out of the dribbling (which isn't a good shot anyway)

The lack of blocking out, putting a body on a defender was ridiculous. This is international basketball, you better be able to rebound or shoot at a very high percentage. This is not the NBA. There’s no more skilled players outside of maybe 3 or 4 players in America. Majority of them are athletic and get hyped for just being athletic. The world has always been on par with America outside of the 92 olympic team which was stacked with skilled talent. America has always had a roster of NBA players and if you see their opponents they usually have one or 2 nba players and a bunch of role players who play for small club teams. Even the redeem team had trouble with Spain in the finals until Kobe made clutch plays. I think there was maybe 2 or 3 nba players on that 08 Spanish roster.
The way current NBA players are so underdeveloped fundamentally i don’t see them progressing when it comes to FIBA rules of play.
I always say if you want to see which NBA player has skill it’s simple. All you have to do is shrink up the court, get rid of the defensive 3 seconds and allow handchecking and 97% of NBA players won’t average more than 12 PPg.

Most german players are Euro League top level talents, they are not just any random ballers. Most of them have a quite big skillset and play their roles well. One real factor was, that they play together since the Eurobasket last year and have an understanding of the group, the gameplan, second and third options and play as a cohesive unit. If you know the players, you are less suprised by the outcome, especially concerning the bigs Germany was the deeper team. From my perspective it is not just a case of being labeled NBA player of not, some german players like Lo or Obst could certainly be NBA role players, and even among NBA players there are vast differences, if you compare LeBron and Boban for example, they are both NBA players, but not on the same level.

Congrats to germany, but as an American, even with this roster this falls on the coach. Other teams are beating us using bench players from the NBA as well, while we still have fringe all stars. We did not start Walker Kessler, we did not play Tyrese more, Jalen Brunson is great for the NBA but not FIBA (-15 Net today). Reaves was on fire but only played 21 minutes. Steve Kerr saying we lost because others got better, wrong we lost because they were playing chess and we were playing checkers. We lost because they maximized the talent pool with what they had, and we were playing Golden State warrior basketballl without Steph. Embarrassing.

I agree. All of those supposed great NBA minds on the bench and we have no ball movement, no attempt at an inside game. Meanwhile, other teams free up their shooters by passing extensively and throw the ball inside to exploit mismatches and utilize their size. Against us, teams can pack the lane bc they know we have no mentality of passing, and/or they don't fear our shooters. Brunson did a good drive and dish to Reaves for a three and I remember thinking that was probably the only one of the whole tourney

You kinda hit the nail on the head and missed the point too my dude. International basketball is a coaches game while the nba is a players game. Kerr is definitely deserving some of the blame but nobody takes coaches seriously in the US, certainly not these young multimillionaires. Which basically means that a game with so many possessions (small ball equals much faster pacing) at this level requires a coach getting involved constantly. Kerr (and all the league’s coaches) sets up the game plan and sits down. It’s all up to the players because that’s how the players want to and the results couldn’t have been any different. Certainly not with this lineup.

This loss has nothing to do with size. The lost the 3rd quarter by 11 points because of too much hero ball by AntMan and Brunson. The ball was not moving. Unlike Germany which was playing team ball, we played individual ball. When Reaves entered the game midway thru the 3rd, he didn’t get a touch on the ball because of no ball movement. When he finally got touches in the 4th, he scored 11 points and got us to within 1 point. Tyrese Halliburton and Reaves do the best job of moving the ball and getting others involved. Hopefully for the 3rd place game, Kerr starts either Halliburton or Reaves instead of Brunson (whose +/- was -19 in this game) and start Ingram (if healthy) over Josh Hart.
We would’ve won this game if we played team ball with the right players on the court instead of one on one hero ball that’s way too prevalent in the NBA.

other international teams are also more or less a pick up team, many do play overseas and even NBA. I'm more surprised by these german players playing more than their NBA worth and duties. Schroder was so in control in every possession, he was playing the traditional point guard this game. Truly impressed with his patience. And not to mention Obst knocking down those 3s to keep their team in command.

They just chose to play small to speed up transition.and isolation and coverage against threes. But in reality, Eiropean.Teams are also speeding up and adjusted well to NBA talents.

Disrespect all the way by Americans...
Let me humbly teach you another lesson from Europe. It's 3000 years old from Aesop: "The fox and the grapes".
"Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength. As he went away, the fox remarked 'Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes.' People who speak disparagingly of things that they cannot attain would do well to apply this story to themselves."
