I seem to be doing alot more fiber laser work and you have just provided the holy grail of missing knowledge. I appreciate the effort and will contribute for sure. I do alot of mild steels and some D4 tool steel, alot of knives and now see I can do granite and slate. Thank you
Amazing Alex love your content. My laser, which I use for jewellery engraving, is down at the moment because Ezcrash has, you got it crashed, have to reinstall software and drivers hopefully will get it running in the next week. Found one of your vids on setting up laser so will follow that. I am really waiting for Lightburn to support Fiber, but once I am up and running again access to your settings is more than worth a monthly subscription. Cheers for a great job.
Great information you have given us, very appreciate! Could you explain or is there any video where you explain how to make focus correctly and where to adjust it in EZCAD2? Thank you very much for your work!
Yes you can find out all about how to measure the best focal distance and completely set up EZCAD for each lens in this video: th-cam.com/video/FZT9zOp9Sl8/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
This sounds like a good question for the community as I haven't done too much slate on diode. We have links to our discord and facebook group in the description.
Something similar would be a good starting point but the outcome is going to look pretty different. Brick is a fairly unique material but engraves well with a fiber.
You're right, there is definitely a size difference, though in most cases it is negligible. It is something to keep in mind if your work has to be drawing accurate.
Alex, when you export from AI to EZ Cad, can you briefly explain your process? I often can't get the export .ai into ez cad and make it work. Are you keeping it .ai or changing to .dxf?
That was really cool Alex! 😎 Could you do something like that with CO2 laser? Especially the last coaster with the grey, white ,tan look? Is it possible by running more passes or by defocusing ? Trying to learn..and you're a great teacher...👍👍
I've literally never engraved slate with a CO2 laser. I'm sure you can do SOMETHING I'm just not sure what yet. I'll try to make a follow up about this with the CO2 at some point to get those questions answered.
Hey folks the first slate I lased was on my CO2. It was a 12x24 piece and it worked great. I also did some place mats and coasters but haven't tried the color adjustments.
Did you update the Slate parameter settings after making this video or something? I downloaded all your parameters and I'm using a 30W machine and the Slate Light Gray and White both show a speed of 551 MM/s instead of 1000 like in this video...
It sounds like you used the converter to convert the library for a different lens. If that's the case it will definitely effect the speed and power values.
I get vering results for different slate. So today for example I was doing a bmp on penrhyn slate which went dark when the laser hit it and then I did the same picture on some Brazilian slate and it went white so I had to invert the picture. Slate is a natural material and extramly incosistant with sedimentary layers. I get different results with the same settings on penrhyn to Blaenau to spainish to Brazilian slate.
Interesting I hadn't really considered that, I know a few people on our discord server used the settings as well with pretty good results so it should be good for most cases but definitely specific materials are going to have different reactions to the same setting so something to look into, I didn't even know there were different kinds of slate!
@@LaserEverything my workshop is in a monumental stone masons yard in North Wales. Can't move for different types of slate lol so I get tons of slate to test on, handy too cos they cut all my slates for me
hello, I have a laser fiber and I have a problem with engraving photos on slate, in a nutshell it doesn't engrave the photo but it engraves everything white. anyone can help me? Thank you
There could be a lot to this, I would suggest making a forum post on one of our communities (link to the discord, FB, and LMA are in the description), and the team and community can help you out!
Your videos really have been a blessing in this endeavor with the laser world of mine! Thank you for your time!
I'm happy to help, so glad they're working for you!
Darn the colors are really interesting. I can see me playing with slate in the future as I have a few hundred slate coasters here
Good hope it helps ya out!
ROCK solid episode. SLATED for success. Dad jokes done for the day ;) lol
Thanks so much Kyle! Appreciate you and your dad jokes!
The multi hatch to get different colors is a great idea. So glad I subscribed.
Heck yea! I'm glad you're here too!
That last piece turned out beautiful!
Thanks I was really happy with these!

I'm glad you got a lot of value from the video. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
I have been trying slate place mats and coasters. This will help with a little zoom!!!
That sounds awesome I hope this helped out. Wanna see your work in the Discord Uncle Lar! :P Come show off what you've been working on!
Thank you Alex .
Happy to help!
Great video. Do you have a video or can u make one of the steps you took to assign the different pens to the different parts/layers of the mandala?
I'm working on an EZCAD 101 video right now and it should be out the next week or two that will cover all the basic functions of the software for you.
@@LaserEverything sounds great. Thanks.
beautiful pattern and work!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
This was a great video, nailed it 👏 👌
Glad you liked it!
If you can drill the center and make a clock

Snagin’ it!

Great video, Alex. Thanks! Did you spray the slate with poly to help the slate color pop?
I did not Randy so I'm sure if you did these settings would look even better. Everything I did to these coasters was shown in the video!
@@LaserEverything Off topic, I sent an email with some information you might be able to use.

Do you think these settings will work on bricks?
Something similar would be a good starting point but the outcome is going to look pretty different. Brick is a fairly unique material but engraves well with a fiber.
What etcher do you have? I have 20w fibre etcher and currently can't get it to etch slate. Do I need to increase my power?
Great video! Two questions: What's the wattage of your laser ? And if I use crosshatch would it eliminate need for second hatch layer?
30w JPT LP, and yep, cross hatch works fine!
Will this work on a Raycus 20w fiber?
It should, might just have to go a little bit slower!
Quick question, doesn’t it make the design smaller as u defocus 3mm or didn’t make a big change?
You're right, there is definitely a size difference, though in most cases it is negligible. It is something to keep in mind if your work has to be drawing accurate.
@@LaserEverything thanks 🙏 in your case it didn’t make big difference since it falls inside the desing characteristics.

I have an entire video on this actually. I don't have the link at the moment but just search "Art Prep for Engravers"
Woh..... That's interesting !
So cool, right?

Hi alex, have you tried photos on slate?
Not yet, but it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll add it to my list!

Another A+
Thank you :D
Are these settings for a 30W or 50W Fiber?
I have a 30w but they should work great on a 50 with a little less power.
Can you provide a link to the specific coasters used?
Here you go: amzn.to/4cxhg8d
@@LaserEverything I was hoping to find the smooth-edged version you used. I can only find the "chipped" edge type.
I wish you had a timer on screen for your cuts
I'll look into adding something like that
what lens is this with?
This was with a 30w JPT on a 110 lens
Great ! Can you share your param from library ? Please 😊
Yes check out lasereverything.net
cant wait to eventually get a fibre laser. Happy to share my slate photo projects once accepted to the fb group
