Whenever you're melting plastic it's liable to create fumes. I'd extract. Don't want that in your body, even if you can't see it or smell it theres a risk.
I don't really trust ezcad to do anything the way I want it to be done. If there's a manual option for making something happen I'll usually do it manually. Just like seeing the boxes I want checked checked and settings for each hatch filled out the way I want it done rather than just letting the computer do it. I dunno. More superstitious than anything that ezcad will just find a way to fuck it up. You're likely fine to just click crosshatch.
This video was made with a 110 lens on a 30 watt laser, so the settings will be quite a bit different. Process will be the same though. Start with a light hatch and low power, and go from there.
Variations on those three but what you can get is limited because you're working on plastic. Fibers are really designed for marking metal so we're already kinda cheating the system to get these results.
It should work fine on any 30w fiber with a 110 lens which is my current setup in this video. Different lenses will require some power adjustments. The entire library and converter spreadsheet are available by supporting the channel over at masters.lasereverything.net/
@@LaserEverything I have more questions I'm even more confused on which Galvo I need I want to do Pmags and Pistol grips but also want to DEEP Engrave Stone, Metal and also Tumblers So do I want a 30 wat or a 50 watt ??.............Do I want a CO2 Galvo or a FIBER ?? Thanks for your advice regards, rick
It sounds like you want both honestly. Stone, some plastics, and tumblers are all going to do much better with CO2. pmags and metal are going to turn out significantly better with the fiber. If you have to pick one I'd start with a fiber. It's easier to cheat and do stone and tumblers on fiber than it is to do metal with a CO2
@@LaserEverything Thank you so much for your replies Do you recommend a 30 watt or a 50 watt I own a sign shop and Im about to pull the trigger this month On a 130W CO2 and a Galvo I will be joining your membership soon
If you own a sign shop you're probably going to want to be using the larger lenses available for your machine which will run MUCH better with more power behind them. You'll likely be happier with more wattage.
I can absolutely do a video on it and there are some links in the description for them as well! Terrabloom extractors. They're in-line, quiet and immensely powerful!
Can you provide a video on glock grip settings.. I've screwed up too many already so I'd like to see how someone else sets up on the settings and parameter lol TIA
Yeah I am waiting for my FFL buddy to bring over some chopped up glock frames so I can shoot that video. They should be here soon and we'll get it up for ya - it's high up on my hit list.
I've never tried it so I just went and grabbed the pmag from the video to test, it does not come off with a HARD scratch of the fingernail. If it's scratching off you probably aren't quite using enough power. Gotta get just a little bit of that plastic removed from the surface, so that's where I'd start.
I moved from a k40 over to a 50w fiber. way more to learn. Thanks for the videos, I joined in on you website too. Did you have a place I can get the list of settings you have on the site? I think you are running a 30w and I will have to do some math...
Thanks for getting back to me! My friend told me it is the manufacturing date. That makes sense because there's 12 numbers with an arrow pointing to one of the numbers, then there's another number like 19. For example, the arrow is pointing to 3 and the big number is 20 then it was made in March 2020!
I have access to a pulse fiber laser but it maxes out at 10khz frequency. Do you have any suggested settings for me to mark pmags or plastics in general? Thanks in advance!
@LaserEverything I do not know what the source is. I just know it's a pulse fiber laser. I have been working with it for a few years and im baffled at the 10khz limitation.
I have not seen fiber - friendly rubber stamp material. Do you have a source for something like this? If so send me a link on the discord server. Organics are usually best done by CO2 lasers.
I planned purchasing a jpt mopa 60 watt from China they say they have two offering for the same source one with imported parts (C version costlier) and other ( E version economic) pls guide on the same
Hey man, I am fascinated by laser work and would like to try it out, Im not ready for a huge investment, what would you recommend for pmags, would omtech 40 or any of the cheaper lasers be able to engrave polymers or scratch the surface or metal/aluminum receivers?
I'd probably recommend a diode just because the CO2 laser dot size is so big it's going to make it hard to mark the items you listed with any precision. That said I haven't really tried marking pmags with a diode so not sure how that would go. Depending on your budget you could check out our recent review of the Basic 2R from 3PLASEES an entry level fiber. It's gonna take a little more work to get nice marks on plastic due to its limited frequency range but would be a great great machine for quick AR lowers and stuff like that.
Hi there ! I have a 20 w fiber laser machine. I want plastic engraving like the cell phone charger is black plastic in this case. Your video is very explanatory but my parameters must be different It marks me brown tone with 1000speed / 20 pow / 20 frequency. I want to achieve white or light gray tone! 🤔👍
Hey Liliana. I think in the Patreon library we have an experimental ABS setting that might get you closer but fiber lasers aren't really for marking plastic. UV lasers are much better suited for that (there's a great one linked in the description) Either check out the patreon settings or keep experimenting. Pro tip would be to increase your line distance big time on your hatch. Try .05 - .1 Hope that helps!
I have a 10w I'm trying to do this with too but I'm having a hard time finding the right settings to see different shades.. most I can find Is 30w info.. any chance you have settings for a 10w for these?
We don't, but you can use a converter to adjust for the power settings. If you search the channel for "converter" it should pull up the video where we talk through how to get it and use it.
Oh you just pissed off half of the people that don't share settings on the facebook groups... lol Thanks for this one. I have a few pmags I have been holding off on. And the 50khz is in line with what my 50W raycus will run. By the way, what lens did you have in when you did this? I have a 110x110 and a 300x300.

@@CraigSanders04 Sounds great, plasma cutters are so fun! I used to work with a 1.5kw fiber cutter and it was such a blast to work with - miss those days. I'd say join the discord and we can help you out but the discord links aren't working at the moment I'll get you a link to get in shortly and then we will be able to take a look and get you taken care of.
Different plastics mark differently, some work - some don't. Fiber lasers aren't designed for plastic they are designed for metal. That said, usually it's best if you're going to try anyway to start with very high speed, low-medium power, high frequency with lots of repetition. Best way to get started.
not sure what lycal is, but silicone/rubbers are generally better with Co2 laser wavelength. Some types of rubber can be done with fiber using care, but will require patience and testing to not burn it up too much.

@@LaserEverything Thanks for responding! I was on mobile last night and now that I'm on my desktop, I can see all of your links below the video. Thanks for everything.
Not directly, this was done with a 30w laser. You need to account for your wattage as well as lens differences. Check out the settings on our website, we did rough conversions, so even if you need to tune them, those would function as a starting point since you’re on a different setup.
hehehe. So, its a yes and no. We did this with these settings on a 30w, but thats not the whole story. Your lens size is going to also impact how much power you'll need. Bigger lens = needs more power to get the same result. smaller lens = needs less power. If your laser is a 60w, but has a bigger lens, it may be close to balancing out. Grab our starter parameter pack from our site, it has everything pre-converted to give you a rough conversion and start for a lot of wattage/lens combos and may give you a solid starting point for testing. Happy lasering!
I’m new to this but wanted to ask if you have a business or know of a business that does this work? If so, can you send a link. I’m trying to get my magpul stocks engraved with an image.
Im following this guide to the letter, my hatching looks perfect for my image, however when it lasers, its only doing the outlines of the image. its an american flag, it not filling in the stripes.
Hey eodninja6 :) If you don't mind, please join the discord (link in the description) so you can upload some photos or a link to a video so we can see what's going on and help you out.
If you want a contour line, that can be added via a checkmark in the hatch setting of ezcad (or a line sublayer in lightburn). If you mean for the red light outlining the shape, that's in the red dot settings in F3 of ezcad or framing option in lightburn.

Variations on those three but what you can get is limited because you're working on plastic. Fibers are really designed for marking metal so we're already kinda cheating the system to get these results.
Ahhh ok!! I was looking to try to get white. Love your video's btw!!! I'm learning quite a bit from watching them! thx!!
Question?
Will this work on Any 30-watt fiber laser ? I have a OMTech 30 watt
Also, do you sell your Library with the pre-configured settings?
It should work fine on any 30w fiber with a 110 lens which is my current setup in this video. Different lenses will require some power adjustments. The entire library and converter spreadsheet are available by supporting the channel over at masters.lasereverything.net/
@@LaserEverything I have more questions
I'm even more confused on which Galvo I need
I want to do Pmags and Pistol grips but also want to DEEP Engrave Stone, Metal and also Tumblers
So do I want a 30 wat or a 50 watt ??.............Do I want a CO2 Galvo or a FIBER ??
Thanks for your advice
regards, rick
It sounds like you want both honestly. Stone, some plastics, and tumblers are all going to do much better with CO2. pmags and metal are going to turn out significantly better with the fiber. If you have to pick one I'd start with a fiber. It's easier to cheat and do stone and tumblers on fiber than it is to do metal with a CO2
@@LaserEverything
Thank you so much for your replies
Do you recommend a 30 watt or a 50 watt
I own a sign shop and Im about to pull the trigger this month
On a 130W CO2 and a Galvo
I will be joining your membership soon
If you own a sign shop you're probably going to want to be using the larger lenses available for your machine which will run MUCH better with more power behind them. You'll likely be happier with more wattage.
Love the videos! Can you do a video on your fume extractor? Or is it a diy kind or company installed?
I can absolutely do a video on it and there are some links in the description for them as well! Terrabloom extractors. They're in-line, quiet and immensely powerful!
Can you provide a video on glock grip settings.. I've screwed up too many already so I'd like to see how someone else sets up on the settings and parameter lol TIA
Yeah I am waiting for my FFL buddy to bring over some chopped up glock frames so I can shoot that video. They should be here soon and we'll get it up for ya - it's high up on my hit list.
@@LaserEverything awesome man, great videos and very informational! Keep it up, the laser community needs more videos like yours!
Not stopping any time soon! Just starting to get some momentum! 😁
Is the minimum for pmags 30watts or could you do 20watts?
For pmags specifically less power is better. These settings are designed to just *barely* kiss the plastic. Too much heat and you're melting.
Should you be able to scratch off the mark you made with a finger nail? If not what would cause this to happen. How can I make the mark tougher ?
I've never tried it so I just went and grabbed the pmag from the video to test, it does not come off with a HARD scratch of the fingernail. If it's scratching off you probably aren't quite using enough power. Gotta get just a little bit of that plastic removed from the surface, so that's where I'd start.
@@LaserEverything thank your taking the time to reply! I’ll definitely try that, thanks!!!
Good luck, I'd you need more help don't skip the Discord server. It's free and there's a link in the description!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
I moved from a k40 over to a 50w fiber. way more to learn. Thanks for the videos, I joined in on you website too. Did you have a place I can get the list of settings you have on the site? I think you are running a 30w and I will have to do some math...
If you mean you joined the LMA, message me on there 🙂
@@LaserEverything I did....and I will. Thanks
I have a question. On the side of p mags there's a little circle with numbers 1 to12, what is it for?
Bullet counter?
Thanks for getting back to me! My friend told me it is the manufacturing date. That makes sense because there's 12 numbers with an arrow pointing to one of the numbers, then there's another number like 19. For example, the arrow is pointing to 3 and the big number is 20 then it was made in March 2020!
Oh very neat! Who knew? TIL! ☺️
Could this be done with a 90w diode laser?
I haven't tried pmags on diode yet but I'd be interested to give it a shot!
Can you apply different colors in the same job and print it all at once in different colors?
Yep, just have to use different pen colors and associate each with a setting. Check out our Ezcad 101 video.
I have access to a pulse fiber laser but it maxes out at 10khz frequency. Do you have any suggested settings for me to mark pmags or plastics in general? Thanks in advance!
Do you know what laser you have specifically? That's a very odd Max
@LaserEverything it's a Telesis and uses proprietary Telesis software. A 20w I believe. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@LaserEverything Telesis FQ20DS Model 6 to be exact
@sebeck1 do you know your source?
@LaserEverything I do not know what the source is. I just know it's a pulse fiber laser. I have been working with it for a few years and im baffled at the 10khz limitation.
I love your channel:) Do you think I could do Rubber stamps (those for offices, school, etc) with a 50W JPT fiber laser?
I have not seen fiber - friendly rubber stamp material. Do you have a source for something like this? If so send me a link on the discord server. Organics are usually best done by CO2 lasers.
What size lens are you using. 150 or 175?
For this video we were on the 110
Do you offer all your presets on EZCad2
Yes, as a benefit to those who choose to support the channel through the LMA. Check it out here: masters.lasereverything.net/
Does lens size matter?
How do you get the correct focal length set? When I select “Light” that works but selecting “Mark” nothing at all
Hope the video helps!
Is there any cloud ray discount codes avaliable
Pretty rare. Not that I know of right now - might be a deal on black friday. Keep an eye open.
nice job
Thanks!
Genius!
Thanks lol!
Hey bud, i tried this on my 50w laser and i couldn’t get the same results!! Any suggestions or help? I will be happy to support the channel
@@LaserEverything thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Is it possible to engrave a white color?
Hi there ! I have a 20 w fiber laser machine. I want plastic engraving like the cell phone charger is black plastic in this case. Your video is very explanatory but my parameters must be different
It marks me brown tone with 1000speed / 20 pow / 20 frequency. I want to achieve white or light gray tone! 🤔👍
Hey Liliana. I think in the Patreon library we have an experimental ABS setting that might get you closer but fiber lasers aren't really for marking plastic. UV lasers are much better suited for that (there's a great one linked in the description)
Either check out the patreon settings or keep experimenting. Pro tip would be to increase your line distance big time on your hatch. Try .05 - .1
Hope that helps!
@@LaserEverything Thanks a lot ! I will do it
How are you able to get different colors ?
Simply adjusting speed, power, and frequency. The settings are in the video.
@@LaserEverything
Thanks. Only achieved with a JPT laser ?
I have a 10w I'm trying to do this with too but I'm having a hard time finding the right settings to see different shades.. most I can find Is 30w info.. any chance you have settings for a 10w for these?
We don't, but you can use a converter to adjust for the power settings. If you search the channel for "converter" it should pull up the video where we talk through how to get it and use it.
Saben en que altura esta el lente para sacar el primer grabado ? Si alguien sabe le agradecería si me dijera
This video shows you how to measure your focal distance correctly: th-cam.com/video/FZT9zOp9Sl8/w-d-xo.html
Is this a 30W?
Yes
Are you using a mopa?
Nope, standard fiber laser.
Oh you just pissed off half of the people that don't share settings on the facebook groups... lol
Thanks for this one. I have a few pmags I have been holding off on. And the 50khz is in line with what my 50W raycus will run.
By the way, what lens did you have in when you did this?
I have a 110x110 and a 300x300.
Good.
lol
This was done on a 110x110

@@LaserEverything I just started using discord. I'll check it out. Most of the time my laser just sits here collecting dust. It's just a hobby for me. I bought it because I wanted to see one in person. They are so amazing.
Haha #surpluscash if you ever get bored of it were taking donations. For real though it's extremely fun even as a hobby. Let me know if there are any videos you'd like to see!!
@@LaserEverything Our main gig is plasma cut artwork and powdercoating. I bought a CO2 laser to etch powercoat with and I just never got excited about it. Since we can cut metal any shape we want the fiber laser just made more sense so I bought one of those too. The CO2 laser is relegated to just piling shit on top of it these days. When I want to play the fiber is so much more fun and easier to work with.
Btw, I'm @round2 on the discord. Lots of good info there. Thanks.
@@CraigSanders04 Sounds great, plasma cutters are so fun! I used to work with a 1.5kw fiber cutter and it was such a blast to work with - miss those days.

hi.with a 50w laser how can i engrave on plastic
Different plastics mark differently, some work - some don't. Fiber lasers aren't designed for plastic they are designed for metal. That said, usually it's best if you're going to try anyway to start with very high speed, low-medium power, high frequency with lots of repetition. Best way to get started.
I have a 60W JPT fiber and this setting doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong?
Please join our community via Discord or Facebook for further assistance with this!
The more I watch videos of fiber lasers, I want one. I'm trying to put some $$ on the side. But one day for sure 😊
Hello its can engrave Watch strap silicone/rubber/lycal with 20w laser fiber Marking ?
not sure what lycal is, but silicone/rubbers are generally better with Co2 laser wavelength. Some types of rubber can be done with fiber using care, but will require patience and testing to not burn it up too much.
Awesome!
Glad you liked it :D
That library, is that a default on the EZCAD.
Nope that's my own personal library, built over the last 8 years.

Do these settings work on a 60W Fiber?
Not directly, this was done with a 30w laser. You need to account for your wattage as well as lens differences. Check out the settings on our website, we did rough conversions, so even if you need to tune them, those would function as a starting point since you’re on a different setup.
I am new to Laser engraving, how do you get the different colors.
Big question, short answer is you need to change settings or have a MOPA laser.
for a 60w fiber would the powers be half? I can't wait to ruin a mag trying lol
Join the discord and check out the "commissions" channel where you can ask for work to be done :)
Focal length???? How???
Not sure what you mean.
Im following this guide to the letter, my hatching looks perfect for my image, however when it lasers, its only doing the outlines of the image. its an american flag, it not filling in the stripes.

@@LaserEverything I am on the Discord, Smaay is handle. I will upload pics tonight when I get home.
This is all great BUT HOW DO YOU GET THE LASER SWITCHED ON????
Twist the red e-stop till it pops out. Then press the galvo power switch and laser power switch. Should be on at that point.
Hello, I was told that a CO2 laser can be used to engrave mags. Is this true?
I have a co2 and have done quite a few mags. The only thing is no color unless you paint it.
I’m not getting any marking on mine
Need more details. Please join our Discord or Facebook group so we can take a closer look.
How do you get it to trace the shape?
If you want a contour line, that can be added via a checkmark in the hatch setting of ezcad (or a line sublayer in lightburn). If you mean for the red light outlining the shape, that's in the red dot settings in F3 of ezcad or framing option in lightburn.
@LaserEverything thank you. I've tried that, but it doesn't work..
Would need more information as to what you’re trying to do and maybe see screenshots of you’re settings then. It would be best to join any one of the communities in our video descriptions and start a support thread with the details so the issue can be properly dug into
@@LaserEverything will do. I'll put the screenshot in the disc.
damn I didn't know you could do plastic
