The reason the chicken tenders didn't brown is because you crowded the pan. They tend to steam when crowded together. Spread out they grill to a golden brown.
You're bang on. I remember the first times I did chicken in the pan, I put too much in, and all the water from the meat flooded the pan and it pretty much boiled.
In a wounded Veteran and seeing your videos really helps me out a lot because in bound to a wheelchair doing regular stuff like going to the patio and grilling a nice steak is a challenge but thanks to you, I find myself yet again being able to enjoy things that I use to enjoy when I was full body able.
Thank you so much for this review. I purchased one when they first came out on QVC. I have carried it in the microwave in my truck (I'm a truck driver). I misplaced the instruction book, and couldn't remember what I was suppose to do. Was getting ready to take it out and to the goodwill. Then I saw your review. Have been using it a whole lot now. Loving it. The buttered toast is great. Now I can take a few of my other cooking supplies out of the truck.
Thank you for being a truck driver. That job is one I would never have liked. There is way too many A-holes out there who don't respect other drivers let alone truck drivers. Stay safe and stay well.
As a Chef of 25 years I think I know why the chicken tenders didn’t brown. Crowding the pan causes steam. The steam will not allow the maillard reaction to happen. Also, any time you cook a protein pat it dry. The excess moisture on the protein causes steam. Steam causes gray colored proteins and zero maillard.
Elazul2k this is absolutely great for college because they don’t have the space for an oven or a stove, but they do have the space for a microwave, and with the range mate pro , you will get the most out of your microwave.
toaster oven $30 black-decker its basically a mini unvented oven i use it for pizza at 450 steaks at 200 basically you can make anything in a toaster oven
As a senior widower, it should work great for me. My normal food is like chili made the excellent bachelor recipe - open can, spoon into dish, microwave for 2 minutes.
The very first microwave ovens were designed to be used with thin aluminum cookware. I have some manuals from the early 60's that emphasize the superior browning you can get with the metal pans in the microwave. People kept using the wrong pans and so the industry just said screw it and began marketing a whole new line of cookware.
James I beleieve with the tenders you over crowded the pan and it steamed them more, that can happen with a skillet also. All the liquid from the chicken made it steam. All in all I am impressed by it as traditionally a microwave does not promote caramelization.
I kept one at work in the nurse break room and some trifling bitch used it to cook fish on my day off, it stunk up the whole floor, and the manager banned it.
@@nicholasbyram296 Should have banned cooking fish rather than banning the appliance. At a previous workplace hot plates were banned as well but one of the other employees cooked his fish soup directly in the kettle, despite there being 2 microwaves available.
@@angelahoffman3061 Yes. The kettle. Nobody used it for coffee/tea after because the smell was obvious once it started boiling. I've seen the same guy drink directly from the spout of the water cooler because there were no cups. I started bringing my own water after that.
I have this - bought it after it was your product of the year. It’s amazing. Food comes out freshly grilled in a fraction of the time it would take me to grill it and the clean up is a snap. You should try it was salmon burgers!
I'm glad I saw this review! I got one and we've used this at least once a day ever since. It takes a little trial and error at first but it's really handy. It's just my adult son and I and I can't do long cooking sessions anymore. Instead of just sandwiches we've been able to make all types of small, individual meals in the microwave now.
I'm legit surprised by this. In culinary school, we were taught microwaves are for 2 things: Thawing shit out and boiling water. That's it. This thing actually seems like it'd be somewhat useful. Very interesting!
I bought one on your recommendation (partially with an amazon credit :) My husband says it makes the best grilled cheese he has had in years. I grilled vegetables and loved them. QUICK, EASY, WORKS! You do have to watch the time since each microwave is different. Thanks for reviewing it.
For all those curious, yes this thing works. I bought one due to Covid19 and the lack of full extended stay hotels I was looking at, 3 months without a kitchen wouldn't work. Well I might not get a full size fridge and have to get groceries more often, but after a week of trial test at home, I can basically cook what I want to in my hotel microwaves if all the full kitchens are gone, might anyway, it's so easy.
I actually appreciate that you had a longer review with more foods. Thanks! I love your videos as I am hopelessly easy to sell to as I love paid commercials but you trying them helps me to avoid the scams...
Absolutely! I have cooked eggs in the microwave for easily 15 years. I like the egg sandwiches at fast food places so I stir up the egg then add the meat and cheese.
Looks like a great idea for the dorm dwelling college student. Being able to cook real food in your dorm without getting in trouble for having a hot plate would be great.
I agree... I remember having to make a grilled cheese sandwich back in the late 70's by ironing it (while it was wrapped in aluminum foil). Now, that is old school!!
I was told before when I bought a microwave oven with grilling features to only grill thin slices of meat so I guess the cooking time pretty much varies with the thickness of the meat.
@meaturama I hate to break it to you but you're dead wrong. I will happily make a video for you if you don't believe it. When you pan-sear or grill steak, the outside is MUCH hotter than the middle. Ever heard of homeostasis? The temperature will eventually balance out and the middle will get hotter, long after you take it off the grill or out of the pan. Just 2 days ago I pan-seared a couple of steaks using a meat thermometer. I took the steaks out of the pan but kept the thermometer in. My steak's internal temperature went from 121°F to 140°F *while sitting on a cool plate*. Like I said, it's because the outer part of the steak was actually much hotter than 140° as it was sitting directly on 400°F cast iron for several minutes. The outside did get cooler over time but the inside got hotter.
@meaturama the outer part of the steak is hotter then the inside, because it's in contact with the pan or other very high temp surface. As it rests that heat transfers to the inside. This is why you have a grey ring when you sear steaks as well.
@meaturama the desired done-ness is dependent on internal temp. The exterior is hotter than that temp, once removed from heat the external and internal temp will equalize if timed right that will hit the desired temp on the nose. You should always pull meat 5 degrees lower so the carry over will bring internal temp to desired level(Poultry is 165f, medium rare around 130f)
I've loved my two styles of Rangemate Pro for a couple of years, since our city banned even electric grills on our condo balconies. The more rectangular one is what I use for Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, laying the bread facing each other, so that I can flip one right over the other in the pan. Shredded cheese melts very well for these.
I highly recommend trying a panini press over a Foreman grill. They're basically the same shit, with the exception that a Foreman is angled to drain grease better, and a panini press is WAY cheaper. As far as the (actually PATENTED) draining angle on the Foreman goes, I like my grease, so that's a negative point for me. If you're a fatass, eat less/better instead of hoping a Foreman grill angle will magically make you slim down.
Yes. But both the Foreman grill and the panini press are not hot enough. For an one inch thick steak; I put it in the oven at 250 with an internal temperate probe. When the internal temperature reaches 110, I put fire grilled or just pan seared it.
@Aviator168 If I'm doing steak it goes on the grill or in a pre-heated cast iron pan to sear on the stove and to finish in the oven. I've yet to try any other appliance that does steak properly. The panini press does a great job on other stuff though.
Thank you from down under. It's the best review for a product I've seen, and I watch a lot! Quick results with a variety of foods in one video. I love trying gadgets, and this looks like a good one. Especially if it saves cleaning the stove top or micro all the time. Just the one item to clean up.
Cody Michel he mentioned in the video he was going to let the steak rest.... i would have temped it instead of cutting to check for doneness but he did say he rested it.
Freakin' Reviews you don't appear to. Comes out the microwave at 2:48 and back out (after the 30sec blast) at 2:49. If you gave it 3-4 mins it would be perfect for those who like medium/rare. But it seems like you like well done. Good job by the way. :-)
Just picked this up at a Goodwill for 4 bucks. looking forward to trying out a few things in it. Edit: Best grilled cheese sandwich I've had in ages. The bread was that lovely crunchiness and the cheese was gooey and hot. Mmm, perfect lunch break grub.
They way it came out at first is my favorite temp. The most done I want a steak is medium and that's only if it's thick. But it looked really good, surprisingly enough. Downside is that everything you made would've been faster with an oven or a real grill IMO, but it's great for certain ppl. Perfect for dorm rooms. The grilled chicken breasts looked really good. best thing I've ever used for cooking rice is an instant pot.
bought one as soon as i watched this video, been using it about 10-15 times a month now for like 4 months. love it. worth it. you will overcook your food early on but you will learn how to use it as time goes on
I have a Rangemate Pro. It takes some practice. Some items do much better if it's preheated longer. Some items do much better if the excess grease or drainage is removed about halfway. Excess margarine will cause steaming so if you like a lot, add it at the end and lit it absorb a bit with the lid replaced. Some items do better with a paper towel over them (be careful, they can catch fire). After a kitchen explosion and subsequent remodel, we only used a microwave and an induction burner. We got pretty good at using this gadget.

Awesome review. Have been looking for something like this to cook on the road. I’m a trucker and this will work for me. Now I will definitely cook a better steak than the Petro truck stop, lol.
I just purchased the "Copper Chef Microwave Grill" from QVC on "as-is display" for $23 shipped. It is practically the same thing, except it is copper chef and it has little handles and cut outs to place the lid into so no mess!! I have only used it 1 time so far to make brats and they were so yummy!!! Thank you for your reviews!! Would you maybe do a comparision of copper chef microwave grill and the rangemate?
totally not a liar when a woman and a man love each other very very much .they preheat the copper chef for 3 minutes and then place their meat on it for 6 minutes each side .
I do like your tutorials very much, and thank you. On your advice I bought a "Stone Wave" MW cooker for my egg breakfasts and it's great. I've always wanted a way to micro-wave a steak or a burger and after this video, I will give it a try. Thanks again.
Been using one of these for awhile. The reason it didn't brown is that the higher temp for Maillard comes from longer, sustained microwaving. 3 minutes and 3 minutes won't get nearly as hot as 6 solid minutes. That said, steam is still a factor, so if you can leave the lid on tilted open so that it catches splatter but allows air to circulate, your microwave will exhaust some of that steam and you'll get hotter surface temps.
You over-filled the container with the chicken tenders. When you do that they will steam instead of grill. That’s probably why they were so white. Even when using conventional cooking DO NOT CROWD the pan.
Sure if you're using aluminum or something else that can't retain heat. If you heat up a nice cast iron pan you can pack that baby to the brim without significant heat loss and sear the crap out of your food. I only recently switched to cast iron and I can't believe what a huge difference it is. My 12" teflon pan can't even take 3 whole chicken breasts without making browning impossible while my 10" cast iron skillet happily browned 4 whole thighs like it was nothing (hell I almost burned them).
Like I was telling you, we thought it worked great and my MIL uses it everyday. I got mine on sale at QVC, it was $35.00. I think mine is just a Rangemate. It doesn't have the handle/stand like that. Other than that it's identical. Thanks for the review😃
I like your reviews, but I wish you would compare it or at describe it against the normal process. Is it worth the extra expanse over the traditional method. Just because it works does not necessarily means it is worth the price.
Freakin' Reviews I have own the original and love it. I also got it less at QVC as it was a closeout. Worth the money because you can use everyday and great for dorms or in hotels plus home. It is easy to clean. I do not have the fancy handle but if leans back it is brilliant as it will catch the water and steam on the inside cover and not on your counter. Really like this appliance
I have something similar to this but it’s 2 hot plates that you put together so it grills both sides at the same time, saves a lot of time when cooking and helps me create some good meals with my limited culinary skills

The glass lid is used with the dutch oven assembly which is the glass lid and a deeper main body component - capacity 2 qt. Australian version comes with neither of these.
If you are going to block microwaves you definitely can't cook with a lid off, and not with a glass lid either. And what keeps this thing from absorbing microwaves into the "grill"half? Seems to me the thing should be fairly glowing with them after all that. I'm skeptical. But your review was excellent! Thanks
Idk how to feel about this... However, it’s quicker than ovenbaking, except for the rice. I don’t mind the price if it’s going to be an essential cookware item. Great video. Happy New Year 🙂👍🏻🤪☮️
I've used what I believe to be the ancestor of devices like this, 80's era Microwave Browning Dishes. Back in the 80s it seems Corning believed microwave cooking might replace conventional oven/stove cooking for many things, and browning dishes were one of the concepts that came out then. Like the Range Mate Pro, you pre-heat the dish without any food on it. (Normally something you never do with a microwave.) A special ingredient used in the bottom will absorb the microwaves and can apparently get the bottom up to 400-degree temperatures. So the dishes, some of which look mostly like standard casserole dishes, essentially have feet to keep the bottom of the dish off the countertop. When used the food is cooked both by the microwaves and by the heat of the dish itself. Aside from Ebay, these dishes are more likely to be found in antique shops then say on Amazon. I suspect they also resulted in the creation of the various one-use grilling surfaces/sleeves used by microwavable foods today. I've got 3 different ones all made by Corning. Some old recipes also talk about using browning sauce for foods that won't brown as expected, in order to get it to look right. I've got one dish that's specifically made for 12" pizzas, though the pizzas I make on it are mostly not 12" size. (I usually use par-baked crusts, but I did make one pizza from dough. However, it came on parchment paper I tried to remove without really knowing how, so it's shape was messed up, but it still tasted good. I've also brought home and cooked a 12" ready to bake pizza from the grocery store.) The pizza cooker or other browning dishes and silicon rings would probably work better for sunny side up eggs then the Range Mate Pro since the surface is flat, but it wouldn't do grill marks on steak. I've done a grilled cheese on what's considered a skillet, though I did it with the sandwich all put together, flipped it, and put it back in, much like stove cooking. (Now that I've seen this, I may change that and cook both sides at once.) It was almost burnt, but not as bad as yours. There are old recipe books for microwave cooking, however the times need adjustments as they were mostly developed for 700-750-watt microwave ovens. (I've found a conversion chart online.) Lastly, one tip I've read about cooking meat like beef in the microwave is that when you take it out, it's internal temperature can actually go up and it will continue cooking for a while after being removed. (I've seen ground beef brown after being removed from the microwave. Though these days I usually just cook ground beef in the microwave until it is browned rather than wait. No special dishes needed.)
Yeah that broke my heart. I'd have eaten it when he first took it out. Also who cuts into steak to see if it's done? Might as well just dehydrate it before cooking. No point in resting a steak you've cut into several times.
Aviendha People do that at restaurants all the time if they’re picky about their food or how they like things cooked (like me and my parents). But I guess you can still tell if it’s cooked or not when you’re cooking it because you know how you like your steak.
Aviendha Well erm...I also cut into my steak to check if it's done, lol. But then again my family and I don't care too much about the meat resting rule. Or care much about how others will judge how I eat my own steaks, etc. (Reading many comments on the internet, apparently such things are very serious and important in western countries?) I mean, what do people want me to be? A steak eating elitist exactly just like them...or else I'm subjectively labeled as "inferior"? Who cares about such judgmental people, lol.
Seems like timewise its the same as a folding countertop grill like a George Foreman, at least for the meats and poultry. I'd just assume use a George Foreman.
Nice review. For the steak wondering if the timing... also depends on how cold the steak is to start. If you have it out of frig. for 20 min. before cooking... may take less time... etc.
Thanks for this review! Now I'm inspired to drag my set out to try ... I'd stashed it away for more than a year after I got it on sale for about $24 :-)
I have a very small kitchen with very little counter space and a crappy little stove because I live in a really old apartment and one of the biggest struggles I have is everything ends up cooked on the stove and then everything gets. Grease and splatter all over everything this thing has me really wanting one this thing looks amazing.... One of the thoughts that I had while watching this is, of course you don't want to pressure cooker, but I would think if the steam didn't escape the rice and the broccoli could cook a lot faster it seems weird to cook rice in something when you're letting the steam Escape I mean that's the whole reason you cover rice while cooking it....
I know this is an older video, but I only just watched it as I have become a fan recently of your content. You guys talk about Grill, and when you talk about it, I assume you mean what is called a BBQ in NZ/Australia. One thing that surprised me about this video, is that it's 11 minutes in the microwave, but I could get a steak done in around 11 minutes including resting time in a fry pan and the result would be as good as those other two options and is neither weather dependant. To me it makes sense to "grill/bbq" a steak if you already have the grill going, otherwise it's much simpler and less mess to clean up in a pan. What do North Americans call cooking a steak in the pan? Pan Fry? FYR my stovetop is on Gas.
Just bought the Rangemate Pro at Amazon per your review. Got the round pan AND the oblong pan. 1st action, STEAK!!! Cooked from Frozen!! Worked great, learning curve is the correct time(s). Thanks for the advice!!! and all of your work on your reviews!!! :)
LOL. Steak was my first test too. Why do I suspect it is a LOT of people's first test? :) Amazing steak! I did thaw mine first, but may try from frozen next time. Did that work out well for you?
Yep, Getting the time down was the issue but worked well. The steak was about an inch thick and cooked from frozen. I like my steak medium rare pushing the rare side. I followed the directions in the book and it seems that doubling the initial cooking times for frozen works but also depends on the steak thickness. I just did 2 pork chops about 1 1/2 inches thick each. 6 minutes each side then 3 minutes each side then another 2 minutes each side. Total 22 minutes. Came out excellent. I have a cowboy rib eye I am going to try. It is a 3 1/2 inch thick monster. Also did a grilled cheese sandwich and came out really good!!, added some Pepperoni to it. AWESOME!!! Now am trying to figure out fish sticks and stuffed bell peppers. Throw any other food ideas NOT in the supplied cook book out here. AM parking my Farberware grill !!! Range Mate is a winner so far!!!
Hash browns. GREAT hash browns. I used frozen, shredded and took about 5 minutes, turned, and 5 more. Preheated with couple of tablespoons of ghee and added a bit more when I turned them.
Got one one Ebay for $35.00. Haven't tried it yet but your video gives me the motivation to try it out. I have vegetable steamer that works great but takes quite a while so if this thing only takes 6 orc7 minutes that's a significant improvement. Thanks for the Video
It would seem that they should have thought of interchangeable grilling surfaces. A raised grill (like the one shown in this video) for steaks and chicken, etc, and a flat one for things like eggs. Overall I like the concept. I'm a quadriplegic so cooking on a regular stove is both difficult and dangerous for me. Something like this might be just the ticket.
Just wanted to thank you for clueing me in on this-I picked it up about a month ago, and I’ve gotten a ton of use from it. Any idea if there’s an expanded recipe book or something out there?
A long time ago when Microwaves were still relatively new my parents bought a thing called a browning plate that was supposed to allow you to brown meat in a microwave oven, we no longer have it so apparently it did not work very good.
Great review, I like your honesty. Regarding the actual dish. I don't see what the advantage is in a normal kitchen. I cook a steak on top of our induction top in round about the same time. Maybe if I was a student with only a microwave then I might consider getting one. I'm not sold on one. Many thanks for the review.
Great informative video, Thanks!! I just received an 'as is' Copper Chef' version of this cooker from QVC. It arrived brand new and I can't wait to try it out. It does not come with a glass lid as your Range Mate, but as you said, who needs it. It does offer the feature of being a microwave 'contact' grill that the Range Mate does not seem to offer. It also comes with a 4 section (cup) silicone tray to make muffins, etc. Nonetheless, your video is really helpful and informative to me. THANKS DUDE!!!
I ordered the Range Mate a year ago (when this review video first came out) and now, after heavy use for one entire year, it still works GREAT! This item is my favorite Freakin Review purchase. It’s so fast and easy to use...and my results for grilled steak are perfect.
How about the texture of the chicken? I've always found microwaved chicken to end up with the texture closer to a pencil eraser. Does this gadget work some kind of magic that keeps that from happening? Seems to have done well with the steak. Interesting...very, very interesting...
The texture was fine, soft and juicy, not rubbery. I think this is because the food technically isn't being microwaved, but cooked by the hot inner surface which is heated by microwaves. At least that's how I understand it.
After seeing the youtube video, I was skeptical, looked promising, so I decided to buy this to expand my microwave cooking, especially during COVID Shelter in Place. I bought a microwave for my small private office. I am amazed at how well it cooks, the crispiness, and grill marks!!! I have cooked eggs and bacon, hamburgers, and chorizo egg so far and am so happy to enhance my cooking with a microwave during COVID when I cant use the office kitchen. If you are looking to cook with your microwave, then you must have this tool. I may be wroing but I dont think you can cook food like this in the microwave without it. I would give it a 9 out of 10. The only issue I have is that you cant dishwash and submerse in the water because of the holes so I wonder about the best cleaning conditions. Otherwise, happy with this product, fast delivery and value.
Did anyone say their opinion of how the meat tasted after cooking in microwave? Perhaps I missed it. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would share their opinion of how it tastes. Thx in advance for replies.
Incredibly awesome taste! Restaurant quality steaks. Chicken breasts are perfectly tender and juicy.i love making chicken breasts to slice up and make for salads. Grilled hot dogs and brats. Sliced grilled potatoes, steamed vegetables and grilled mushroom and onions. I LOVE MY RANGE MATE PRO! Let your meats rest. I haven't tried the baking yet. I have the oblong and the circular pans. When I get a bigger microwave I will then buy the slow cooker model. I love it sooo much that I'm going to buy a bigger microwave just so I can use the "crock pot pan"! Just for the record: vita mix blender, kitchen aide mixer, a good toaster oven, the pressure cooker XL, a Ninja chopper, a Kerigue Coffee Maker, good sets of cookware, bake ware, knives mixing bowls, utensils, microwave and a Range Mate Pro, You and your cooking adventures are good to go!!!😍❤. Happy Cooking!😍
Could you get any more bugman? Does your entire life revolve around consumer products? I mean clearly you're a payed shill but assuming you're a real person you really need to rethink what's important to you.
You can apply a bit of butter or olive oil to the surface after pre-heating the grill but before putting the chicken in, since the extra fat or oil heats up as well, it could get you that nice sear on the chicken that you don't see if you normally cook it in that manner. Remember that chicken releases a lot more water than steak when cooked. Water stops the chicken from getting sear marks. Science. Also, the chicken seems to be cooked via steam more so than heat, meaning you need to put less chicken in there to avoid all the excess water being created. That or it's better if the device has more vents to open so it doesn't keep all the water in the pan when steaming.
Alexander Cook this is actually a good looking product for those of us in the north (Minnesota here) we have a good 3-4 months a year where grilling becomes difficult
We've been without an oven for a few years now and have been limited to the microwave, hot plate, and crock pot ever since, which is really limiting. Would love one of these even though it would be a little tough grilling for 3 people in it. If only it was not so pricey. One day maybe. It's certainly cheaper than an oven, lol. Thanks for your review of the product. I would not have even considered the possibility of it without knowing it actually works. :D
You should try using the Chefman Electric Egg Cooker. It cooks boiled, scrambled, omelettes and poached eggs in seconds. I bought it at Ollie's Bargain Store for $12.99.
Really enjoy your reviews. You get right to the point, show the important steps and information and you generally adhere to manufacturer instructions. Unlike one reviewer who trashes products when he is more like a bull in a china shop, completely ignoring manufacturer instructions and then blaming his shortcomings on the product. It's kind of a waste of time to watch that guy but you are always factual, unbiased and informative.
"What do you guys think" I think you just called a well done steak "done" when in the name, it implies its past done, being 'well' done. The first run was maybe 20 seconds shy of being a medium rare, where as after the addition of the full 30 seconds, it was more medium well. I would have taken that beauty after the first run!
@@TheJoigoman Technically a steak is considered cooked and no longer raw once the outer most 2 millimeters has been seared. At that point the bacteria is killed off and its "cooked" and considered safe. I barely recall this video now, but I am a chef. A steak cooked this way is considered "Blue rare" but is still a "Cooked" steak. It may not be how you prefer it, but it IS cooked, and not raw. :)
Brown Rice cooks in a Plastic Microwave Bowl in about 22 minutes White Rice in about 15 minutes...But to cook Eggs Sunnyside Up is promising...I prefer them Over Easy I'll have to try that...!!! Thanks for this video it answers some complex questions for me and demonstrates an effective solution...!!!
So contrary to common belief, you can put metal in the microwave. Metal with lots of sharp points close together though is a no no as it could promote arcing (think crumpled foil). A simple round metal hot plate would work too with a cover it would work like a mini oven. The metal should absorb most of the rays away from the food itself.
I just tried to order it from their website, they are unable to process any of my credit cards and the 1-800 number has a recording that says it's unavailable. Not sure if this is temporary or permanent. I've also found it's not available on many other online marketplaces, like Sears and Walmart. I've only found it for sale at third party redellers for a much higher price.
There was enough of the "try again for another minute" involved for me to just stay with my usual techniques, particularly for cooking chicken. With that device you have to open the microwave, take a thing out, open the thing, flip the food--and then reverse the process to resume cooking. In a regular pan or grill you just flip the food--and you can check the temperature without all the bother. This literally adds nothing but extra time to the cooking process.
All microwave ovens have different power, so it is not possible to tell perfect time before practical test. But after you got your microwave time, you will not have to recheck every minute your food. But I agree I do not like checking this and that. That's why I cook porridge in multicooker. Just set 10 minutes. And wait. Perfect!
Be honest... I may had gone for it right out of there the first time round... the second time for sure. Medium at most anymore... That is impressive. I have to imagine that it's all in that enamel coating, protecting what is most likely metal underneath it... of which wouldn't be too happy in there on its own. But it still gets to heat up like metal, and cook like metal... it all makes such sense, and is so simple... I'm surprised this isn't something more mainstream. This should basically come with every microwave. . . It opens up SO many more possibilities beyond that of the typical use cases of a microwave.
The reason the chicken tenders didn't brown is because you crowded the pan. They tend to steam when crowded together. Spread out they grill to a golden brown.
Good job

As a Chef of 25 years I think I know why the chicken tenders didn’t brown. Crowding the pan causes steam. The steam will not allow the maillard reaction to happen. Also, any time you cook a protein pat it dry. The excess moisture on the protein causes steam. Steam causes gray colored proteins and zero maillard.
Tell Me A Song thank you!

I also work in a kitchen and I figured it was due to the steam but I wasn’t aware of all the science actually behind it. Thank you!
This would be perfect for some college freshman living in a dorm room.
Elazul2k this is absolutely great for college because they don’t have the space for an oven or a stove, but they do have the space for a microwave, and with the range mate pro , you will get the most out of your microwave.

I make ramen noodles in the microwave. Might as well make steaks in there too
@Vex Xen ramen is for when you're lazy to cook. Steak is for when you want to have a nice meal.
The very first microwave ovens were designed to be used with thin aluminum cookware. I have some manuals from the early 60's that emphasize the superior browning you can get with the metal pans in the microwave. People kept using the wrong pans and so the industry just said screw it and began marketing a whole new line of cookware.
That's so interesting thanks for sharing!
James I beleieve with the tenders you over crowded the pan and it steamed them more, that can happen with a skillet also. All the liquid from the chicken made it steam. All in all I am impressed by it as traditionally a microwave does not promote caramelization.
You are probably correct. Live and learn!
Man do I want this for my work. We can't have a hot plate but this would be a way to skirt around that rule

I'm glad I saw this review! I got one and we've used this at least once a day ever since. It takes a little trial and error at first but it's really handy. This looks like an amazing product. Anyone cooking just for themselves needs one. And totally convenient to do a quick re-grill on grilled left overs.

You are supposed to let your steak rest for 5-7 minutes. It continues to cook for a couple of minutes.
he did
@meaturama Are you joking or is this a serious comment?
I think for the price George Foreman grill thingies are good.
Kathryn Ellison yeah you can get cheaper basic versions for like $20 and they can cook a lot of stuff without making a huge mess of pans and stuff
Generic Name Thanks I'm going to Target and check it out. Cheers

You really did a great job with all of these examples - thank you!
bought one as soon as i watched this video, been using it about 10-15 times a month now for like 4 months. love it. worth it. you will overcook your food early on but you will learn how to use it as time goes on
Did you try out the muffin cups? You mentioned them so I was curious about how they worked?
I have a Rangemate Pro. It takes some practice. Some items do much better if it's preheated longer. Some items do much better if the excess grease or drainage is removed about halfway. Excess margarine will cause steaming so if you like a lot, add it at the end and lit it absorb a bit with the lid replaced. Some items do better with a paper towel over them (be careful, they can catch fire).
After a kitchen explosion and subsequent remodel, we only used a microwave and an induction burner. We got pretty good at using this gadget.

Since you demonstrated that this does work. It would be a sweet addition to my RV. Especially during winter and low on propane.
B H wow I didn't know that thanks for advice
Sure if you're using aluminum or something else that can't retain heat. If you heat up a nice cast iron pan you can pack that baby to the brim without significant heat loss and sear the crap out of your food. I only recently switched to cast iron and I can't believe what a huge difference it is. My 12" teflon pan can't even take 3 whole chicken breasts without making browning impossible while my 10" cast iron skillet happily browned 4 whole thighs like it was nothing (hell I almost burned them).
I appreciate your review. I have had the rangemate for at least a year and have used it twice. You have inspired me to give it another go :)

Happy New Year 🙂👍🏻🤪☮️
I've been using it almost daily and so far I think it's pretty useful. Happy New Year!
(I've found a conversion chart online.)
Lastly, one tip I've read about cooking meat like beef in the microwave is that when you take it out, it's internal temperature can actually go up and it will continue cooking for a while after being removed. (I've seen ground beef brown after being removed from the microwave. Though these days I usually just cook ground beef in the microwave until it is browned rather than wait. No special dishes needed.)
I ordered a used one (in great condition, with everything included) on Ebay for about $27. Cant wait for it to get delivered.
If you want to grill - moisture kills grilling. Remove the moisture Pat with paper towel. Dry seasoning soaks up moisture too.

People do that at restaurants all the time if they’re picky about their food or how they like things cooked (like me and my parents).
(Reading many comments on the internet, apparently such things are very serious and important in western countries?)
I mean, what do people want me to be?
One of the thoughts that I had while watching this is, of course you don't want to pressure cooker, but I would think if the steam didn't escape the rice and the broccoli could cook a lot faster it seems weird to cook rice in something when you're letting the steam Escape I mean that's the whole reason you cover rice while cooking it....
this channel is awesome, man.
Hey I'm glad it's working out for you!
JD S you’re doing yourself an injustice by not bringing your steak to room temp before cooking.
Or be able to flip the grill surface , snap it in and out

You may be the first to grill mark over easy eggs, my friend! 🤣
Hey, can you add butter or any oils to pre-heat? Maybe get better grill marks...flavouring as well?

Thanks...
it turned out that way because you crowded the pan and the chicken ended up almost steaming instead of grilling. i would of only done half and half
@@chopwasp Then what does it say about your life watching his vids? Your name is spot-on!
How is the cleanup?
This would be great for me since I travel abroad with my job. This would help me stay on a healthier diet.
A good product, no doubt...but its NOT quicker than regular cooking. Good, if you don't have a cooker.
Alexander Cook this is actually a good looking product for those of us in the north (Minnesota here) we have a good 3-4 months a year where grilling becomes difficult
Brian Yaeger but can’t you then just use a griddle pan?
We've been without an oven for a few years now and have been limited to the microwave, hot plate, and crock pot ever since, which is really limiting. Would love one of these even though it would be a little tough grilling for 3 people in it. If only it was not so pricey. One day maybe. It's certainly cheaper than an oven, lol. Thanks for your review of the product. I would not have even considered the possibility of it without knowing it actually works. :D
"I'm getting impatient for my pizza... I want my pizza." 😂😂😂😂😂😂 love this guy
You should try using the Chefman Electric Egg Cooker. It cooks boiled, scrambled, omelettes and poached eggs in seconds. I bought it at Ollie's Bargain Store for $12.99.
Your suppose to let the steak rest first
Really enjoy your reviews.
"What do you guys think"
I think you just called a well done steak "done" when in the name, it implies its past done, being 'well' done. The first run was maybe 20 seconds shy of being a medium rare, where as after the addition of the full 30 seconds, it was more medium well. I would have taken that beauty after the first run!
Totally agree
@@johndavis29209 Good man, good man.
Not to mention he didn’t season it.
I’m a vegetarian who’s never cooked or eaten a steak and I know you gotta season it and not overcook it 😂
First round was too raw, second was nice. But if you like to eat raw food that's ok
Wow I want one being a college student this would be ideal
Tupac Shakur holy shit you're alive and in college?!
Headless Chicken bruh he's fake I'm the real Tupac I'm still in highschool
So contrary to common belief, you can put metal in the microwave. Metal with lots of sharp points close together though is a no no as it could promote arcing (think crumpled foil). A simple round metal hot plate would work too with a cover it would work like a mini oven. The metal should absorb most of the rays away from the food itself.
But how did the stuff taste? Especially the steak
Dawn Harper - I grill seafood in it all the time and it tastes like I just grilled it outside. Pretty delicious
This obviously wasn't made for people who already own a stove and grill.
