    Growing up in Iowa everyone I know simply rolls the corn cobs on top of a stick of butter before salting them. There is no reason to use a knife to butter your corn on the cob but corn holders are nessasary on a full cob.

    Your original paper towel holder is actually better than the one that you are reviewing, you just need to flip the paper towel roll over for it to work correctly. That swirly part that ends with a little ball that sits a couple inches up from the bottom of the paper towel roll is actually there to help you rip a sheet off with just one hand. If you have the paper towels facing the correct way and you rip it from the bottom up, you can use your original paper towel holder one-handed. And also, the quality of paper towel plays a huge role in using these. If you're using brawny or Viva towels, they're going to work much better because those towels are stronger and have better perforations so they rip off easier and they tend to not get that triangle on the bottom like yours did.

    I've had that OxO paper towel holder for about 5 years now, and it still works great. The base is heavy with a rubber bottom so it doesn't move, and the arm spring hasn't lost any noticeable tension. Absolutely hated spending that much on a paper towel holder, but hated spinning half a roll out of the old one even more.

    I would actually buy that corn butter knife. Using a normal knife is a lot more messy.
    I'm not sure if I'd buy the peanut butter jar knife. But I can see the benefits when your jars are starting to get empty.

      If you use a stick of butter on a plate like he used for testing, just roll the corn across the top of the butter stick. The butter is its own applicator! No gadget needed.

      There is also the Rand Peltzer method, where you butter a slice of bread and then rub it on the corn. It's cheaper than this gadget, and you get to eat some buttery bread afterward.

    I have been through the wringer with paper towel holders. After trying 2 different types, I found that either the base was not heavy enough, or the roll just unraveled. My son bought me a Kamenstein paper towel holder for Christmas and I am in love. This particular type has an extremely heavy base with a rubber bottom that will NOT walk across my counter, a lip on the base that keeps the towels from unraveling and, best of all, a ratcheting center that allow me to easily get any size towel with one hand. I don't have to violently rip the towel to get it off....I can go super slow, and I get a perfect tear every time. You really need to try one James...remember 1. Kamenstein 2. Super HEAVY base and 3. Ratchet. Not all Kamenstein's are created equal. Oh and one more thing...the very top unscrews for when you are putting on a new roll - Makes it super secure!
    And it's only around $20. Love your videos! I need one of those peanut butter knives lol.

    You need to pull up from the bottom on the old paper towel holder, using the arm to help get the tear started whenever it give you trouble. The arm holds it steady enough that a small twist gets it started.
    The butter spreader leaves a rounded shape on the outside *with the second cut onwards.* The first cut still has a flat edge on the surface that contacts the corn.

    I bought a marble paper towel holder at a garage sale 20 years ago and it lets me tear one sheet at a time forever. I use a spoon for peanut butter - works great. I stopped putting butter on my sweet corn 40 years ago and golly can you ever taste the sweet without the butter, so no need for a specialty knife. Cans? Nope. Great video for odd inventions so you can see what not to spend money on. Smile!

  • @herbertkeithmiller
    @herbertkeithmiller 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm generally against single use gadgets figuring a common knife or something like that can do the job as well. But the PB peanut butter spreader seems to do something only a spatula would do. Get into the corners at the top and bottom. And a spatulal can't spread cold peanut butter that easily. The can stacker is unique doing a job nothing else could. So those two are winners for me.

  • @rmhartman
    @rmhartman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    your spiral holder can do one handed, but it depends upon the direction the roll is mounted. (like the over-the-front vs down-the-back debate for toilet paper) look at the veggie bag dispensers at the grocery store. they have a rounded spike intended to break the dotted line between bags. the end of your spiral arm can serve the same purpose, but only if the towels are feeding the right direction.

      Edit: Sorry, unless you were talking about the peanut butter/jelly "jife" thing. To which case...even I have to throw my hat in the ring and say that's just wrong (lol!) as while it scoops well, the back of a spoon doesn't spread that well.

    The paper towel holder where the pressure comes from inside via the pole being slightly wider paddles, work great. Theres no need for that external pole bit as the internal pole itself is where the friction comes from. it therefore doesn't change the single sheet action when you get to the end.
