The reason for the differences in grill marks and the browning of the pancakes is the heating elements. The Gotham one is direct heat while the Smokeless one is indirect heat meaning that it probably needs to be at a higher temp than the Gotham Steel grill. Maybe if the Smokeless Grill could get a higher temp then it could win against the Gotham in appearance of the food but as is it's just not as a appealing. That and on the Steaks (not your fault), the Gotham was a medium rare while the Smokeless Grill looked more medium to medium well and I assume it's due to the fact that you kept the steak on the Smokeless grill longer to get the outside seared properly but in doing so caused the inside to cook more.
also feel like the smokeless grill has a harder time keeping temp so that why they say too cook with the included lid and also prob will need time to heat up with the lid on to get the cook surface hot put your food on the surface and replace the top to get the temp back up and maintain it also with there being a fan inside it would constantly be trying too keep temps up think he could have tested this differently rather then using the same methods for both grills
Agree! And, keeping the lid on the power smokeless when making the steak made it “steam” more thank grill, and that cooked more the inside. Not enough heat with the chicken and the pancakes (aka no grill marks). To me, the PS simply does not have enough… “power”. That’s a deal breaker as far as I’m concerned…
@GrimmsDeath The PowerSmokelessGrill can get up to SMOKING HOT! I use mine for the past few years, no complaint, and the MID and LOW temp setting I hardly use, it might be perfect for keeping stuff warm, with the lid on. The secret is to keep the lid on for heating it up, it gets up to 450, nothing more needed for crispy trouts and everything else. And I use it mainly outdoors on the covered balcony, even in winter. Don't want to miss it anymore, especially the size is great! The guy might start reading the user manuals instead of ignoring them, not each appliance uses the same settings
We just bought a smokeless grill almost identical to the ASOT one with a few cosmetic differences from HSN and it works fantastic, we have zero complaints about it. Tip: Use a dish brush with nylon bristles to scrub them to get in between all the tight spaces in the grills instead of a sponge!
This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound th-cam.com/users/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.
@@mr.dirtydannnnn Still using it. Not as often though since we can grill outside now (summer 2021). A little of the non-stick has come off the grill part (the griddle is still going strong with the non-stick surface), but I use a little oil and there's no problem.
I LOVED mine at first. Still like it but it doesn't get as hot as it did when I first got it. Non-stick still works great, especially if I spray Dawn Power spray on it and let it sit for a minute or two before washing.
The grill Mark's are less impressive because you're putting the lid on creating a steamer environment. Leave the lid off and you dont create that steam
I like the meat steamed it keeps it from been to tough and plus when you take off the lid you smell good meat and btw freaking review you forgot to give bailey a piece of that steak😃
@@BourbonMamaluke steam and condensation is all a matter of physical science. It boils down to a humid environment, hot areas, inadequate airflow, or inadequate conditioned air. If the ambient humidity in the grill is about 55%, it doesn't take much to create a steamy environment. The air can only hold so much moisture so when you start to have condensation when you have warm and wet air mixed with cool air or cool surfaces moreover the glass lid.
This was me goofing off i just googled and replaced some of the quote to look like i was smart. If you want to bust me on this just look through my other post to see how really dumb i am lol
Thank you for covering the cleaning part. Cleaning is the decisive factor in my purchase of a grill, but not many reviews would extend to it. Super useful comparison.
From my observations The Gotham has a direct heating element hence better grill marks whilst the Power Smokeless Grill has a radiating heat which would take longer for the grill plate to heat up to the same temps .... I would love to see the same tests done again making sure the grill plates are at the same operating temperatures
I'm just saying that if you're comparing two grills, premade burgers gives you an equal test for both. Otherwise the burger itself becomes a variable and that's too many variables for this test.
@Ultra CNC The point isn't freshness, or taste, its consistency. Pre-made burgers will taste the same, burger per burger, regardless of how they ACTUALLY taste.
Ultra CNC Dude just quit it. Nobody is believing you. They may make sub par burgers, but I can guaran-goddamn-tee you that if you buy pre made ones they don’t have mouse shit in them. There’s something called the FDA. You might want to read up on them.
@Ultra CNC Because when you do a comparison you don't care about freshness, taste or if is healthy. You just want to have a consistent thing that you can compare.
I usually hate like really can't freaking stand product review channels/videos but I genuinely enjoy watching your videos. They're not only very entertaining but they're also very informative as well. Thank you for creating your channel as it helps people decide what they should buy. I also enjoy your videos because they are serious reviews and not fake ass ones because you're being paid off by the companies. I appreciate how you always give your honest opinion on each product and help people decide whether or not they themselves would like to buy these products, so once again, thank you.
@freakinreviews I think you may have one of the defective units that will not heat above 300. Try one of those laser thermometers to test it and get a replacement if needed. I would still like to see how yours holds up.
Agreed, it could also be the reason why the geill marks came out nicer on the gotham steel, because it gets hotter. No real way to tell unless he used a laser thermometer
nick buck yeah i mean everybody knows that, but they are literally called laser thermometers its like having to clarify duct tape is not made out of ducts
I had a smokeless grill in the early 90s before I was given a George Forman Grill with removable plates as a present. The one issue I had with the grill was its weight because it was ceramic and cleaning the grill was a pain. Time for a grill brush for the Gotham. Even though cookware may say non-stick, I still spray or use butter.
I like my pancakes lighter colored so that works for me and the grill marks don't matter that much to me either. Clean up and smokeless matter though! Thanks for the great review James!
On one of these for quite a few months now and it's complete and utter garbage the way the fan is located in the intake being on the other side causes have to meet to be on the grill to stay raw at while the other half cook stew a full well done also as for it being smokeless it's just a fan that exhaust down towards your countertop after repetitive use you will see the same stains that are in your oven Hood will be on your countertop it's garbage
@@asmith8898 I was talking about 2 different things. James seemed to like the darker grill marks on meat. The grill marks don't matter that much to me. Then the pancakes, I like mine lighter shade, not dark. I wouldn't grill my pancakes. ;)
Your review/demo changed my mind about purchasing the Gotham Steel. Just placed my order for the Power Smokeless Grill XL! Thank you for your blood sweat and tears to help the rest of us make better decisions! I'm a low carber and do not have access to an outdoor grill (condo living). This is going to get a lot of use! Note: If you want darker pancakes substitute more melted butter for liquid and the butter will burn.
your going to be sorry you bought it We are as they ripped us off it came without a lid , they forgot to put one in , and they a story that they are on back order, most likely they were when they boxed ours up and said oh well send it any way , they just don't care
Good review. I have both of these. Bought the smokles one first. Thought it had too many pieces, that made it a pain in the butt and it is quite a bit heavier. So I bought the Gotham grill second and it is just more simple, fewer prices, slightly smaller and lighter in weight and easier storage. I like the Gotham better. The smoke is not enough to bother me, I soaked the grill a little without submerging the electrical end of it and it cleaned up ok. I prefer the Gotham grill. Looking for some to take the smokeless grill off my hands.
The Gotham grill's heating element is closer to the griddle than the Power Smokeless. That's going to affect things like browning; you'll want to let it preheat longer because of that. The heating element being built into the grill grates also results in darker grill marks, for the same reason. I'd go with Power Smokeless, overall. BTW, you can probably "season" both grill grates in a manner similar to cast iron. With the Gotham, since it does have the built in heating element, you would do that by cooking fatty foods on it a few times and only cleaning it with water and a soap free scrub pad. (Use a cheap toothbrush to get into the crevices). With the Power Smokeless, you could probably follow normal cast iron seasoning procedures, maybe 25 degrees cooler in oven temp or so.
I know they are both called grills but the Power Smokeless Grill is closer to an oven than a grill. It uses indirect heat, a heavy glass lid, and even the fan adds a convection effect. Whereas the Gotham steel uses direct heat and no lid or fan. That is why you got faster browning and great sear marks. Thanks for the review.
Really, it's a bit of a weird hybrid of grill and oven. Yes, the heating element is farther away, but the food is still being cooked via direct contact to a heated grill surface. So - grill. But as said, the lid and fan give it some aspects of an enclosed oven. So - oven. Really interesting.
the fan only sucks in smoke. It has no convection effect like an oven in which the fan blows the heat around in the oven so that all sides of a dish get heated equally at the same time.
I bought one of these a few weeks ago and it works great. As for the pancakes, you need to crank up the heat and using my heat gun, it takes somewhere around 8 minutes to get to 400 - 450 degrees. Steaks came out good. I even made a smash burger on it, the crust on the meat was perfect. I really didn't think I could make a smash burger on it but it worked. I really like the boneless chicken the way is comes out. So, so juicy and has pretty good grill marks. As for the smoke, none that I could see. For me, it's a great addition to my kitchen gadgets. I did watch this review before I bought it, so you kinda helped me make this purchase. Thanks.
Hi James, the preparation you must go through to do these videos must be so arduous, and yet you still make such amazing videos. Thank you for all of your hard work, honesty and entertainment. One final thing I like how you talk about how the results look. I am visually impaired and it gives me a much better idea.
The Gotham Steel is the best to me.😉 I am a cook and I used it alot. 👨🍳 I cook out side to avoid the smoke or if I am inside grilling, I put on the vent over the grill/stove so the smoke will be pulled outside.💁♂️ Stay Awesome. 😎👍
Buy an infra red digital thermometer from a place like Harbor Freight for checking engine temps. Heat up both grills, then point the thermometer at each grill and compare the temps. I don't think the Power Grill was getting as hot as it needed to be at a given setting. Testing them with such a thermometer will give you a better comparison.
I've watched only 2 videos but already I can tell that the name Freakin' Reviews fits. I mean this guys hits every perspective and question, sand even retests. Good stuff.
Nice review I own the power smokeless grill and have had no problems with it but what I've noticed in your video is that the Gotham heating element built into the grills surface giving you better grill Mark's but the trade off is that the heat destroys the nonstick surface making the clean up the absolute worst you can get the same grill Mark's an better clean up on the power smokeless grill if you just turn it on high an leave the food on a little longer so those are my thoughts also the power smokeless grill 2 puts out more wattage giving you better grill Mark's in less time hope my comment was helpful
Fantastic review... I have to admit though, regardless of the smoke, I like the Gotham... I have a smokeless grill that absolutely isn't smokeless also, but has a lid and keeps the smoke down enough to satisfy me, the thing is, I spray canola or olive spray oil before I use it and it has kept my grill nonstick without any problems so far. Thanks for this!
The demo video didn't put the water in the drip try when grilling. It prevents the smoke. It's very easy to wash if you use hot water/soap & brush. Easy! I love the grill!!
Wouldn't the fan just send the 'smoke' out some other part of the grill instead? Also wouldn't the increased airflow, draw heat away from the grill, therefore reducing the heating capacity?
On Amazon, there were several complaints about the fan stops working on the Power one. QVC had them on sale price at $89. With 6 month easy pay. On the 3rd week of February 19. But the numerous complaints about the fan stopped working, and with only a 60 day warranty. I decided not to purchase even at lower price. Will check the reviews in QVC to see they have any complaints on the Power model. I have the Power 8 qt pressure cooker and it works great by the way. I will stick to .. lol..my nuwave counter top oven
The power smoker grill also has a tray underneath the drip pan so you have to fill it up with water for the smoke to go away this is a good product love it I’m not worry about the grill marks neither the cleaning and the non-sticking is the important thing they both get the job done when it comes to cooking
I have both. I also live in hotels 11 months out of the year for work. The grill/griddle (A) gets hotter because of the direct contact. The power grill/ griddle (B) has great smoke control and keeps the fire alarm quiet. Cleaning (A) is easier when it has completely cooled. Meats do tend to stick after several uses. Still cleans easily. (B) takes too long to heat and cook food. Makes you late for the crew van in the am. Gotham also advertises (A) as a Smoke Less grill now. It’s true cause grease falls from hot grill onto a cool drip pan. Griddle not so but still not much smoke unless you burn something. For speed, ease and convenience, I prefer (A). Just disconnect the fire alarm or cook in the bathroom
They make two different wattages. The normal one you buy at the local Walmart or other retailers are only 1200 watts. I ordered one directly from Power Smokeless Grill, cause I wanted a bigger grilling size. The normal grilling size like the one in this video is 13.5. They are at the local retailers. The bigger grilling size you can only get through the company itself, and it has a grilling size of 15.5. As far as power goes, you can get the 1200 watt (Normal) or get the 1500 watt. I believe with the 1500 watt you see faster temperature changes, and it may put out more power for other features. The 1500 watt you can only get it through ordering from Power Smokeless Grill directly.
I’m thinking that The Gotham Steel May need to be seasoned with some cooking spray before starting to cook, although the Smokeless grill probably could use some as well. The Gotham Steel reminds me of my Copper red pan, which has served me well with a occasional little seasoning all these years. Thank you for your reviews!
I have the Power Smokeless Grill and I love it. Yes, being smokeless is imperative with my cockamamie smoke detecters being too sensitive. I also agree the non-stick surfaces are better, not to mention everything can go into the dishwasher. Yes, I believe higher temperatures are necessary to get browning and so forth. I pretty much stick with the griddle because it will not drip and is forgiving for soft foods to cook. Typically, unless something dramatic occurs, I just need to wipe off the griddle with a paper towel and I am ready to go again.
Hello again my friend yes I have tried these power smokeless Grill I had to get used to it I realize that it says to heat the grill up at least two 350 so I do it at 400 and because I do that 400 after so many minutes I will reduce the Heat to 350 and everything comes out just right I also grill onions and shallots on there too, once again I always enjoy your advertisement in shape of things out for the public right on my man right on
I have one. The initial smoke is from the heating element heating up and burning whatever it was that was on it. If you don't use the lid, you'll get smoke in the air. Use the lid. The fan blows the smoke across the bottom water pan. The water pan catches the smoke. If you forget to put water in the pan, the air will fill up with smoke. Let the grill preheat for about 8 minutes before putting food on it. It is SUPER EASY TO CLEAN!! This thing totally rocks! Today, I dissembled the fan unit to clean the fan. It is the first time that I've done this, since getting this product about a month ago. There was a lot of grease in the fan unit. It was easy to remove the fan for cleaning. Then, cleaning out the space in the base unit where the fan sits was also very easy. Cleaning the fan itself wasn't terribly hard to do. You can't take the fan itself apart, but it's not super hard to reach into the nooks and crannies using a damp paper towel, and Q-tips. It took me about ten minutes of work to pay attention to the details. The metal is thin and flexible, so you got to use care not to bend anything. Putting it back together was just as easy. It's probably a good idea to clean out the fan unit once or twice a month....
Great review. I freaking love my Power Smokeless Grill. Can't recommend it enough. Yes, it really is smokeless, even in a small room, and the benefits and convenience of that feature alone is huge. There's a smoke alarm in close proximity to where mine's set up and the grill doesn't set it off, even when grilling 2 lbs of marinated tips. It's very well designed and built great, and easily breaks down for quick cleaning. It does a fantastic job of grilling and cooking. And I love the bright glowing blue temperature light and how it functions. I know it's a small thing, but it's just so cool when you see it for yourself. It sucks when you have high hopes for a product that ends up being a piece of crap waste of money. But trust me, the Power Smokeless Grill is not one of those products. It exceeded all expectations. You'll love it.
@@davidsheriff9274 No, I have zero relationship with this company or any company that sells it. I'm just a guy that got this grill as a gift and love how great it works.
@@davidsapir3764 alright dude, there are so many out there, but this seems to be the one people consistently like, I'm going for it. The XL is too big, I think I'll just go for the regular size. Thanks 🙏
Try covering the grill with a very wet paper towel (over cooled grill) for a few minutes to soften the grease spots then wipe clean under running water. My Gotham Steel instruction booklet says you can also put the grill (without the electric plug insert)in the dishwasher, but that might only be for my model of their grill.
@@naddakeeps9964 Yeah. The heating element is actually fused to the underside of the grill. That's why it gets hotter. That's why the non-stick gets over heated and becomes "stick". Non stick skillets don't do well to brown meat. They work....a few times. Then the non-stick surface turns color and eventually goes away.
Does it state that you need to periodically season either grill service to maintain the non-stick surface? The reason I ask is that I've never seen any non-stick surface that didn't eventually fail but seasoning it similar to an iron skillet maintains it. On the pancake grilling, does it still require the lid?
I bought the power smokeless grill off QVC. So far i cooked sausage peppers/onion on griddle turned out fine. Grill asparagus & corn, then chicken thighs, boneless pork chops and steak and all were fine. It did really stopped the smoke but its a fantasy to feel like you're cooking out side but truly any cooking pan or oven can do the same thing. I took a damp cloth and just wiped down the grill in between meats. Other looks better because its grill plate are wider
I think you're suppose to use a little oil on the non stick grill first. Just like nonstick pan you're still suppose to use a tiny amount of oil. Like a drop would do, doubt you can use a drop for those grills but you get the point.
Candi Soda I have a Gotham steel electric grill, not the one in this video but a clamshell type like a George foreman, but it has that same copper surface on it and right on the box it says no oil or butter needed so you’re not supposed to use oil, though it might help. I haven’t used mine yet to say for sure. I’m probably in the minority on this but if I had the smokeless grill on here I probably wouldn’t care how clean it got, it’s a grill, an outdoor grill doesn’t start off with clean grated every time.
I own 2 of and happy with them, if you wrap the bottom of the collection pan with foil and poke holes to allow smoke to go down, you can get of away of washing it every time. I disassemble the fan (only one screw at the bottom) and wash it with a paint brush, dish detergent under running water to prevent grease build up on the fan blades, just remember to avoid the fan motor to get wet.
Gotham steel only has better grill Mark's because the heating element is in the grill and makes it harder to clean so I would want easier to clean over grill Marks
I have a Gotham grill. Put it in warm soapy water for a few minutes and it wipes off with a dish rag. Easy cleaning. Also dishwasher safe. It works good.
I just unboxed and assembled my new power smokeless grill haven't used it yet noticed that the grill plate touches directly on the heating elements wondering how does all the juices and grease avoid not harming and damaging it and the fan unit on top of that the lid doesnt set and seal flush down in it like it should and it didn't come with the extra flat griddle or recipe book only instructions and warranty booklets
Bailey: "I'd like a burger, please. Just leave out the sauce, salad, cheese, tomatoes, onions and buns. No need to spice or grill the patties either, I'll take them raw."
I didn't read through the 1200+ comments, but I am curious if you can wash, apply clean vegetable oil and heat up the grill, will it re-season like cast iron? Thanks.
You can use it with or without lid. They plastic smell goes away, its simply because it is new. There are a few techniques you can use. You can smoke your food then suck up the rest of the smoke so it doesn't fill your home. It keeps you meat moist. I've never used the Gotham grill but they both look like they have there pros and cons
Nice review. Grill marks do matter to me. The better marks mean more caramelization, hence better flavor. I think it might be a matter of adjusting the heat on the Power grill. That one also looks better designed to grill veggies. Smaller gaps for stuff to fall through. Do you buy all of your reviewed products? Impressive.
One thing about thw power smokeless grill can you clean the fan . Cause smoke from the food does carry greeae and could cause the fan to stop working .if it.cant be cleaned
you didn't have the grill at full power thus the light grill marks. your lights on the grill were only 3/4 up at full power it would be a fully lit up. FYI
The metal mass and material make a huge difference too. Comparing the thin metal on the smokeless to big honking steel grates isn't apples to apples. Thermal mass on thin metal doesn't hold up and won't up quite as good at "grill marks"....but it's benefits of the smokeless outweigh the steel. For indoors smokeless is definitely more important.
I received mine but UPS had let the box it originall came in get wet and had just thrown it in a brown box (without the original box) and all the cook books and guide book on how to use it were soaking wet and the pages are all stuck together and there was not even a packing slip with it. I want to know who i need to contact and how I contact them to see about getting these books replaced.
Hey James, putting dish soap on your sponge helps make cleaning easier. You had your temp too low on the smokeless grill during your trial testing. All in all a good educational and informative video. Thanks!
The one gripe i have about "non-stick" and "grill" is that the way you get good searing (grill marks) is to have the food in full contact with the cooking surface. When it gets "stuck", that's the food getting "stuck" to that surface, meaning it's getting as much contact as possible, whereas of it comes off easily, that means that it's not going to sear as well.
The problem your facing with non-stick items is that you need to clean your grill first then season them with cooking oil tell its burned onto the surfaces and you will find that your problems with sticking will be next to none but it will look ugly but will taste amazing.
Because the heating element is built right into the other grill, the non-stick surface gets eroded easier. At least from what I've seen across the board with any grill that's set up like that (george foreman grill, pancake/waffle maker's, etc). The quick fix is pretty much what you commented but that's just a solution to the poor design
My question about the Smokeless grill is where does the smoke go? It’s not like it’s vented to the outside. Does it have a charcoal filter hidden somewhere?
Next time you do this kind of review I would like to see more comparasing between, like: -wich is faster to heat up -wich one can get hottest -wich one has lower minium tempature -wich one has better heat pattern (like does it have some parts that are hotter than others)
So, what happens to the smoke after it's sucked in by the machine? Does it go through a filter that wound trap grease vapor and/or odor? Or does it just pushed out from the back or something?
I have had my Power Smokeless Grill for 3 years and I love it. Non stick surface is holding strong, and I use it at least 3 times a week. Love the tenderness of the meat and the ease of cleanup.
I don't know if you do it, however on your washing segments, I always see no soap. Running water and a sponge don't clean well. I use a good soapy cloth (microfiber usually) and keep the water off. The soap helps break down the grease and fats. It doesn't mean cleaning is any more enjoyable however from what it looks like, with simply running water you might be on it a while longer.
I’m sending back! I didn’t like it and even with adding the higher charge it still took forever to cook. Nothing different than a broiler pan marks too. I wish it worked out
I have that model and I let it heat up for a longer time, and sometimes use butter to get better grill marks ,but they are never that great. Cleaning easy and use in dishwasher. Have had it for two years now, using about twice a month. Still looks new.
I bought the Gotham per your review, have used it many times for gatherings in my apartment. I don’t seem to have the same issue with cleaning as the one you have. My nonstick surface is still as good as day 1 and just wipes away easily. So maybe I got lucky or yours unlucky. Either way, excellent review the power grill definitely is better with the “smoke-less”
Thanks for the review of the Gotham Steel Smokeless Grill and The Power Grill. I am not surprised that you too found that the Gotham Steel grill's "non-stick surface" that the info-mercials tout on their products degrades after no more than two uses. I have a Gotham Steel frying pan. And when I try to cook an omelette or pancakes "without oil or butter," as the info-mercial says, the food sticks like nobody's business! I am so GLAD that I saw your videos before I wasted my money on that Gotham Steel Smokeless Grill!
I don't think the heat was up enough on the power smokeless grill, the blue light indicator was not really up high enough and even though it does say the temp, perhaps the "fan" brings down the temp a little....just my humble opinion. Another great review, thank you, keep them coming :)
I haven’t seen anything about what to do about the water tray do you have to take apart the whole unit many pieces to put water in it every time you use it? It doesn’t state how long the water in the water tray holds up
Yeah, but the power with the lid on is essentially the same as any grill pan in the oven. It just steams food. Without the lid, it probably is more impressive.
i have like an off brand power smokeless grill and it didn't come with the griddle but it worked good. i kind of like the clean look of your pancakes but idk how they taste did they taste doughy or anything? because it could of just been looks of the pancakes.
I guess it just depends especially my house. But your mom or your dad ain't cooking your food everyday it's a rare occasion. Every man for their self after the age 16.
They make those elements/grills detachable so you can clean them without the controls/plug in getting wet. So saying you can't wash the non-stick of the Gotham Steel is incorrect. Just make sure its completely dry before using it after washing.
Just bought Homelab Smokeless grill. It is nice. Super easy to clean. This guy is scraping the heck out of the grill. And the only thing he liked was the Mark's the grill made on the meat. Come on man! Back to my new grill. Found on Amazon for $98 plus taxes. It truly doesn't get smokey. It does get hot. Be careful of the glass top handle. I cooked asparagus and seasoned Tilapia. Turn out good. No complaints. Tomorrow grilled chicken/w bbq sauce at the end and brussel sprouts.
The power smokeless is a scam of a product for people that don't know how cooking works, it's truly smokeless because it doesn't create any smoke. It create steam because it barely reaches 320f (where caramelization occurs) which is probably sucked by the fan, cooled and then blown out at a slightly cooler temperature and voilà! Smokeless steamer! I think it's a fail on the grilling aspect. If you truly want a smokeless steak do it sous-vide .
It's a protective oil coating. It's put on all heating elements to protect from corrosion and burns OFF after first use. Toasters &toaster ovens smoke & stink during the first use too.
The heating element for the Gotham steel is direct.. as in part of the grill itself. The smokeless grill is indirect. Huge difference. It also wasn't on high. Lid off on high, no fan if you want maximum grill marks, you can also preheat a bit longer. Personally I don't like excessive browning/charring on anything. Thanks! 😀👍👌✌
I think the most important feature here is smokeless. when it comes down to it. Gotham steel SMOKELESS Grill did not work as the name intended. NOT SMOKELESS. Power SMOKELESS Grill worked as the name intended. SMOKELESS.
Review the Philips indoor infrared grill. Curious to see how it stacks up. My non-stick surface has not degraded in the slightest after many uses and it gives great grill marks
I’m new to your channel, thank you for your interesting reviews. I just want to comment on beautiful Bayley, what a sweetheart she is, I love the way she stands there looking up it’s almost as if she’s saying “come on, let me in there!” Bless her 😁
Of all the cooking grill kitchen gadgets for making pancakes, I have found the Ninja 12" premium fry pan on medium heat makes absolutely evenly cooked top and bottom. Most of the time the second side looks a bit mottled due to uneven temps, but the ninja fry pan retains heat so well the pancakes are the same on both sides.
Yes I did notice that. Difference is that this is a video with a premise about indoor foodmaking and not outdoor grilling or BBQ'ing. There is a reason why you have things like grill pans - as the caramelisation and charring of the meats surface is difference from a grill pan vs. a regular pan (indoors). It gives a diffrent flavore profile to meat, vegtables and other things. So Grill marks do matter.
What's the watts difference between the two? I believe it's 1000 wat for the Gotham versus 1500 for the "power" .. but the performance doesn't show that to me.
Agree
That's what I think also.
also feel like the smokeless grill has a harder time keeping temp so that why they say too cook with the included lid and also prob will need time to heat up with the lid on to get the cook surface hot put your food on the surface and replace the top to get the temp back up and maintain it also with there being a fan inside it would constantly be trying too keep temps up think he could have tested this differently rather then using the same methods for both grills
@GrimmsDeath
The PowerSmokelessGrill can get up to SMOKING HOT!
One from HSN, does it have the fan?
You're one of the suckers born every minute.

I've had the Power Smokeless Grill for about a month now and it still is non-stick. I love mine!
kardiaheart I haven't tried mine yet but I'm wondering if I can use baking paper with it like in the oven?
Do you have an update for us?
But the use of the fan would remove the steam, which means you ain't steaming the meat

I have a similar product and it works great. I could care less about grill marks, as long as things are cooked well enough.
Premade patties are the only choice for comparison sake.
Ultra CNC Jesus... you have to be trolling...
Yup. Harbor Freight has 'em for like $19. For reviewing objectively it should be a must.
Does seem possible. It did not seem to get very hot at all, even accounting for the greater distance between element and cooking surface.
Agreed, it could also be the reason why the geill marks came out nicer on the gotham steel, because it gets hotter. No real way to tell unless he used a laser thermometer
They aren’t laser thermometers. The laser is ONLY on there for aiming purposes. They’re infrared
nick buck yeah i mean everybody knows that, but they are literally called laser thermometers

Thanks for the great review James!
yea its good know you cant possibly ruin pancakes with it lol.
I totally agree! This is exactly what I was thinking
Grilled pancakes... that's new
@@asmith8898 I was talking about 2 different things.
Great review. Grill marks to me really don't matter. Lighter pancakes May taste better then the darker. I would choose the power smokeless grill.
Same here, I have no issues with those light pancakes & would prefer those. Don't care about the grill marks either, as long as it all tastes good.
I love white pancakes
Same.
If I want darker result I just use basic grill. Gotham is pretty much just basic grill with some bell and whistle. Power smokeless grill work better.
I like crunchy darker pan

The Gotham Steel is the best to me.😉
I am a cook and I used it alot. 👨🍳
I cook out side to avoid the smoke
or if I am inside grilling,
I put on the vent over the grill/stove so the smoke will be pulled outside.💁♂️
Stay Awesome.
Good stuff.
Nice review I own the power smokeless grill and have had no problems with it but what I've noticed in your video is that the Gotham heating element built into the grills surface giving you better grill Mark's but the trade off is that the heat destroys the nonstick surface making the clean up the absolute worst you can get the same grill Mark's an better clean up on the power smokeless grill if you just turn it on high an leave the food on a little longer so those are my thoughts also the power smokeless grill 2 puts out more wattage giving you better grill Mark's in less time hope my comment was helpful
how does this work? where does the smoke go? I cant understand
Thanks for the explanation.I love watching reviews and reading the comments, but I actually learned from yours.
@@ahmedzainy4971 I’d assume there’s a filter the smoke goes through
That copper type stick-free coating doesn’t work, I bought a set of copper surface pans. Doesn’t work without oil.
I like how you cook the different types of meat on the grills. Great review 👍
He probably didn't talk about putting the water in the drip pan on the PowerXL. It captures the smoke via the fan system.
Can I add wood chips to the water ?
I think your temp settings are not right goes up to 450 deg and not browning wrong temp settings
My thoughts exactly!!!
How do you season your pan?
Most people pour sauces and gravies over their food so in my opinion the color doesn't matter much. I would definitely choose Power Smokeless Grill.
Hello again my friend yes I have tried these power smokeless Grill I had to get used to it I realize that it says to heat the grill up at least two 350 so I do it at 400 and because I do that 400 after so many minutes I will reduce the Heat to 350 and everything comes out just right I also grill onions and shallots on there too, once again I always enjoy your advertisement in shape of things out for the public right on my man right on
I love the light brown pancake color.
I have to agree
Agreed I like them to be lighter.
I concur
I didn't know people like eating dark pancakes. Almost like people drinking dark water.. to each there own.
@@yankdiz what's a dark water?

Looks like the Power grill is at a lower temp or maybe the fanning makes the temp drop.
Oh my gosh...I just said the same thing...that blue light was a bit low and I too think the fan may lower the temp a bit.
@@marilynalvarez9951 it may also be because the heating element is closer to the grill in the Gotham then the power
You should have used an infrared thermometer on them.

Plus over cooked/heated fat is supposedly a carcinogen and the higher the heat and more grill marks the more unhealthy then.

I didn't read through the 1200+ comments, but I am curious if you can wash, apply clean vegetable oil and heat up the grill, will it re-season like cast iron? Thanks.
I’m impressed- great detail on comparing both grills; very thorough testing. Except for one element - what was Bailey’s take on the results? 🤗
FYI
And the pancake that did get browned was on full power and it just barely browned stop pay attention think then comment
I love my Power XL. But, I would like to find out the best way to clean the fan blades.
I feel like grill marks are not as important as the product doing what it says it does...which I assume is "smokeless indoor grilling"
Yeah but if there were no grill marks can you really claim its smokeless indoor grilling" if it doesn't "grill"?

Alright a real question here: do you or do you not say 'I'm Batman!' everytime you bring on the Gotham grill?

Next time you do this kind of review I would like to see more comparasing between, like:
-wich is faster to heat up
-wich one can get hottest
-wich one has lower minium tempature
-wich one has better heat pattern (like does it have some parts that are hotter than others)
Question??? Where does the smoke go. Is it filtered in some way? Or, does the fan simply distribute the smoke where it is harder to see?
Nice Video James! 👍 And you can’t forget Bailey in your videos!
Do you have to use the drip pan on the smokeless griddle for the pancakes? Looks like it would heat up better without it.
Using the lid on the Power grill affects the caramelization and therefore affecting the taste. WHY USE THE LID?
Yep

Minor note: never put non-stick cookware in the dishwasher, it corrodes/destroys the non-stick surface.
The product was advertised as dishwasher safe, so he tested that claim.
How does grease buildup on the Power Smokeless fan blades and airways go over repeated use?
I don't think the heat was up enough on the power smokeless grill, the blue light indicator was not really up high enough and even though it does say the temp, perhaps the "fan" brings down the temp a little....just my humble opinion. Another great review, thank you, keep them coming :)
I haven’t seen anything about what to do about the water tray do you have to take apart the whole unit many pieces to put water in it every time you use it? It doesn’t state how long the water in the water tray holds up
Can't see the grill marks once the burger is in the bun, so if that's the only thing Gotham Steel has going for it, it's got nothing. 🤷🏼♂️
Just Imagine being his family and waiting for him to cook dinner but also has to makes the video at the same time
I guess it just depends especially my house. But your mom or your dad ain't cooking your food everyday it's a rare occasion. Every man for their self after the age 16.
🤣🤣🤣
They make those elements/grills detachable so you can clean them without the controls/plug in getting wet. So saying you can't wash the non-stick of the Gotham Steel is incorrect. Just make sure its completely dry before using it after washing.
Isn’t the whole point of grilling for the flavor of smoke?
Combination of smoke and the flavoring of burned fat left on the grill (the black stuff) from previous cooking. Neither of which these two have.
Tomorrow grilled chicken/w bbq sauce at the end and brussel sprouts.
the lid caused your food to be steamed.... yuk for meat lol
He kept turning the fan on and off. If the fan stayed on it would probably grill better
@577AllWell
The fan would remove steam.
Then why are steamed hams so popular?
Where does the smoke go through? has to exhaust somewhere, right?...and does the fan gum up with grease?
It was something on the heating element. When you removed cardboard, I noticed a stain on it from element.
Good eye Deborah, I went back and viewed again. Interesting....
Dang, I winder what it was
Deborah Zarzyczny I noticed that too.
It was probably something from manufacturing. I know that toasters always say there might be smoke/smell from oils used in manufacturing process
SMOKELESS.
I see that Gotham now sells one with a fan . Costs more , of course .
Would NEVER get the Gotham Steel just because it's such a pain in the ass to clean.
It’s dishwasher safe now so you can just throw it into the dishwasher
I like how you cook the different types of meat on the grills. Great review 👍
And compare to the XL PSGrill from A sams!Club is it the same? Which are the difference?
Grillmarks on food are like audio on dashcam... not so important to me.
Then you should just boil all you'r meat. Way faster 😋
@@ronni2664 You do notice that I wrote about grillmarks and not about actual grilling?
@@ronni2664 lol you though u were smart.
However, grill marks equals caramelisation, which is going to enhance the flavour more.
