    NIce video. It was not clear to me which cap you should use for flat-white, late or cappuccino respectively. Would you mind clarifying?

      @felicityfoo6240 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say practice getting consistently good results with the fine first then try the super fine. Both can make cappuccinos and flat whites. It really just depends on how much air you introduce.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yes, sure can. The Screens essentially act as a filter for the bubbles you initially create in the first 2-10 seconds of frothing. So if you consider this -
      Without a Screen - Makes Heavy Thick Dry Cappuccino Foam - as there's not screen reducing the size of the bubbles.
      With the Fine Screen - Makes Latte Style of Foam - medium thickness with silky consistency.
      With Super Fine Screen - Makes Flat White Style Foam. Thin and silky.
      NB: The time in which you aerate the milk will also have an effect on the quality of the milk. So It is possible to get a flat white sylte milk with the FINE screen, although it will take longer to reduce the size of the bubbles with the larger screen. & in reverse, the SUPER FINE screen will make Cappuccino style foam, but you'll need to create a lot of volume in the beginning and froth more than before to incorporate it fully.

      This was my question, too, so thanks. The one summer I worked at Starbucks here was the only milk difference. A cappuccino required a straight pour and for a latte we held back top foam while pouring and then spooned a little foam on top. That’s it. Everyone loved it. While it’s great that people have experimented one wonders how much is innovation and how much is complication for complication’s sake. ; )

    tip on Nespresso and latte art. I was gifted a Nespresso Vertuo long ago, and for ease practice that’s what I was using initially test Nanofoamer results. What I discovered is the thick layer of crema Nespresso produces is a bit too thick for the milk to move through. As soon as I removed about half the crema, I could get nice designs.
    …but I’m a beginner and maybe I’m doing something wrong

    One tip: I'm you get the AA battery powered version: You need very high quality batteries, eg duracell, and they need to be quite new. After not long it runs down a little and the thing won't spin fast enough to make proper foam. Now after it gets to that point I just take the batteries out and use them in something else that needs less power.

    It's also worth noting that you should rinse off the milk immediately after frothing as the screen will eventually clog from milk build up over time. This holds true even if you rinse it immediately after pouring your latte art. I'd say rinse off and occasionally use a soft toothbrush to clean the screen to prevent heavy build up

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  ปีที่แล้ว

      More air. So if you're going for foam - use it without any screens 👌 and keep it out of the milk more. It might make a little more of a mess but that'll be the foam you're after

    I have one. It has build quality issues. Right of the box the protective case is too lose and keeps falling off. The plastic feels cheap in hand and i dont think that it is made to last more than the 5 dollar ones i get it in my country. It has design issues as well and isn't as ergonomic and easy to use as they have shown here. It takes way more than 20 seconds to froth milk and holding that tight power button constantly is a challenge in itself. The only case where this makes sense is when you use a manual espresso machine like a flaire. I hope mine makes me prove wrong and lasts a few years.

      I would consider looking at the milk you're using. Some milk, if it does not have a certain fat content, will not froth up no matter how much you spon it. Ideally you want to use Full fat, full cream milk anything from around 2.5% to 5% fat. Powered milk or light milk is very hard to froth with... Some alternative nut milks work great though so perhaps look at using these too

    Man, I've had this thing for a couple of weeks now and I just can't seem to get even the basic tulip design down, it's so frustrating. I do everything that you do up until the 3:33 part, however when I bring the pitcher down to draw the circular shape, the milk just kind of falls through instead spreading around the top, and the only thing that's left at the end is milk goop at the bottom of the pitcher. I am using whole milk and try to follow the prescribed technique (start in the middle for 2-10 seconds, then dip it further down and move to the edge) to no avail. Any tips would be much appreciated.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sounds like your milk is splitting apart. As in you have froth and liquid milk that is not combined for a silky texture / does this sound right?
      Give your milk in the jug a good couple of swirls to get the foam and the liquid milk combined as much as possible . Pour from a medium heigh nice and steadily to begin with and keep filling up the cup until 3/4 before you drop down and when you do drop down, make sure you tilt the jug in to the cup and aim to hold the tip of the jug at the centre of your cup... lots to work on - but keep practising and we'll be exploring Latte art real soon - so keep an eye out for that

    • @davidd.6448
      @davidd.6448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlternativeBrewing Yes you're right, the texture of the milk is very uneven - it's about 80% fairly heavy milk that just sort of punches through the espresso crema, leaving only the floaty goop behind that is not very conducive to good latte art. Thank you very much for your advice, I will certainly keep trying. I have sort of gotten closer in my latest attempt by reducing the aeration time, but I clearly need more practice

    This is great for immitation foam. But to get the texture AND taste you need high pressure steam to change the milk at the molecular level to bring out the sweetness in the milk.
