I actually was able to hold a World Record on one of the german stages for about a month, and one thing i learned at the end is that in order to get to those times, you are either braking as much as the car will allow you to without overreving the engine or locking up the tires, and on throttle there is only maximum Bananas, and if the tires don't grip up right away you already lost time, it took me 3 days an several mental breakdowns before keeping a run together, and that was on tarmack, which i would consider to be a bit easier in the Group B monsters

I've just done 3:09:9 after a couple of tries.. The first half of the stage you got me up almost 1,5 seconds!
Comes down to disciplines..rallying requires right foot where you wouldn't dream of using on tarmac Saw alot of corners where you're full sending on some tight opening bends where could be feathering up the momentum as the corner opens to carry alot more exit speed same for entry into alot of corners could carry alot more pace through a good few sections by finding the right line to carry the car into the bend sideways and throttle n gearing the car to steer more than steering input. You're an amazing tarmac driver and I love watching you immerse into the shadow realms of off-road. Keep up the sweat. ♥️
Jimmy Do you realize how much better people have gotten at this game since it was released? The last time you tried setting a record was only a few months after release
While it's always fun to see who can be the fastest, its those long challenges where you see who is consistently fast without having to retry 100 times. I remember that event where heavy damage was turned on and there were 30-50km between repairs I started out at my usual top 10-20% on the leaderboard, but quickly rose up to the top 50. I simply didnt crash once... except at the last stage where I destroyed a tire early in the stage and immediately vanished from the top score. :P
Jimmy you've just slightly uncovered the absolutely bonkers reality of rally eSports where you have to push like an F1 hotlap on the most ridiculous of conditions you should have a go at a round of WRC eSports and you'll truly hain a new level of respect for the likes of Sami joe nexl Noel and the lot
Jimmy Broadbent, you've inspired me to buy an entry level wheel and start recording some Dirt Rally 2.0. I can barely speak whilst playing you're an inspiration ❤ Thank you so so much for being you mate! Big love
When it comes to stage records, the suspension and gearing setup make a _massive_ difference. You can look at the leader's setup and watch their replay for an idea of what you need to do to get top times.
@@mack4691 in my experience configuring suspension is a similar process to gearing (or even like setting steering degree on tarmac) you essentially want to have the travel and springs set for the max load the car will experience on that stage; any more 'give' than what is necessary just reduces precision and control. (use your judgement of course, for example if the stage has a section with deep ruts do I really need to sacrifice stiffness for that to keep speed or can I find a good line without loosing control?) If the game supports it you can use the telemetry data on your best run as a guide for what you need to adjust. Unfortunately if the game doesn't have replay data you'll just have to experiment, which is why checking the leader's setup can save some time, just note that camber/toe can also make a big difference but since it's more of a driver's preference, the leader's settings may not suit your style 👍
The top times on the Dirt Rally 2 leaderboards, especially in such a competitive class such as Group B cars, are going to be almost literally impossible to beat, you really just have to know the extremely fine line between absolutely sending it at full tilt through the corners and ending up off the stage, Dirt Rally 2 is a super finnicky game.
I find setting up the car to be a great part of the fun in Dirt Rally. Taking a car from being an unruly monster to a smooth-as-silk beast that is practically reading your mind and shaving double digits seconds off your best time is a great pleasure to me. But yeah, figuring out what all the different settings actually does to the car takes a while to learn.
i got like 200hours playerd and still never touched the car setting cause i rlly dunno wtf i doing. how do i learn it without losing like 2 months xD? cheers
Te awanga/Ocean Beach is my favorite stage in Dirt rally; 8 miles straight of extremely technical, relatively wide and smooth dirt road with few high speed sections and hairpins that are all very forgiving if you get excited and enter too quickly.
Really not a bad attempt jimmer! One thing that makes a huge difference though is setting the final drive to the lowest always, big increases to acceleration, then it's just a matter of matching gear ratios to the stage/rally type.
What I found is that in DR2 there is a LOT of time in the car setup. Half the fun I had even on PS with a controller was doing experiments with setup and finding several seconds of time. Glad to see you discovered that rabbit hole.
There's a reason Group B was banned lmao. You have to full send it to get the most out of the cars, their solution to under rotating is just never letting off the gas.
If you want Jimmy you can try the rally stages in Argentina with rain and RWD, the leaderboards that way are somewhat easier, as in less people have tried them or succeeded at all
fuck yea man glad to see dr2.0 still getting some love. ive put well over 800 hrs across these games, fantastic times my friend. for real those top times are people using huge cuts and perfect setups with dozens of hours into running that one stage. You did really good Jimmer!
With such a low speed stage you can go heavy on the camber for the agility and low ride height with softer and slower springs since there are no heavy hits to take care of. Mightve shaved off maybe 2 seconds in addition to make the car more drivable.
from my (controller) experience, its best to use the clutch often to keep the engine in high revs, and clutch kick often. this way you get more power to the wheels when you need it.
i pulled alot of top 25s, even a couple top 10s and top 5s in Wales and greece. the amount of practice it takes is unreal. im talking days..weeks.. the men at the very top are maniacs!
Talking and trying to concentrate while driving flat out is definately impressive. Im sure im speaking for most of us when I say, I love the rally videos Jimmer 🙂👌👍very entertaining to watch 👊
I'm a Dirt Rally fan for many years (Den49HotRodder) but still using a controller with 1st view driving and absolutely no assist. It's hard to compare times with users who drives on 3rd view either on controller or wheels and with assist activated. Good job!
Jimmy, its ok. No one in this country knows how to say the names. Also, the WRC comes back to New Zealand this year. Some awesome stages around Auckland. I have to recommend watching it in September/October! Love from NZ 🇳🇿🇳🇿
I have to agree. Getting into top 100 for any track is very hard these days for this game when so many players have already tried it. It's still the best rally game in my books.
As someone with a top 500 time in the r5 rally class it’s an incredibly competitive track. Brutally technical and short requiring virtual perfection on every corner. It’s fucking bananas how much sleep I’ve lost on this track to still be 20 ish seconds or so off the world record
Interesting that you've mentioned handbrake. I remember watching some group B footage on YT, and they didn't use it in awd cars. As i understand, a coupling that disengages the rear drive or something whenever handbrake is pulled was implemented in rally cars later. In the 80s they would struggle in tight hairpins up to the point of doing a thousand point turn.
yeah, im pretty sure you are right. i still use the handbrake though. jimmy did a very respectable attempt here, h pattern with clutch, heel and toe shifting and at first no handbrake. im not sure if he used one later, i couldnt see one on his wheel setup. (but he did jokingly mention the strategy was to handbrake every corner). these cars can be VERY understeer prone.
Hey Jimmy! I love watching all your videos, the rally stages especially get me going. I’d love to see what you can do in WRC 10 on Sweden shakedown. Please please please do a video on this stage!!!
I used to jo life this game when it came out and got absolutely fed up by the difficulty of the game online the only thing I was competitive in was rallycross haha really hard but still fun game for any rally fan and absolutely love to see this game getting noted again
I remember I held a world top 40 time in the 2000cc category thanks to an (for me) unbelievable run with the Fabia WRC in Monte Carlo... for like 3 days before I started falling behind. Granted my setup and skill are average-low, but people are absolutely crazy when it comes to this game. If DR 3.0 or however the next game is called includes better online functionalities, it will be a classic for sure
i don't know about this particular stage, but many of the world records in the game are achieved by cutting the tracks in ways that should be physically impossible irl. i remember watching the wr replay of a stage in greece. a few hundred meters after the start, instead of following the right left on the road, the guy intentionally steered left into a huge ditch on the side of the road, drove through the ditch for 50 meters, then jumped out of it and onto the road again. it was pretty funny to see and he probably saved 3-4 seconds by doing that alone
if you want a laugh look up the poland wrs, they just straightline the stages using fields and risky cuts through tree lines it's extremely impressive but it's more like trackmania or something at that level, just hoping you get good bounce rng
@@PyroIndigo yeah the trackmania analogy is spot on i think. that's why weekly and monthly event leaderboards are much more relevant to my playstyle, which is "when in doubt, brake a little bit" :)

Comes down to disciplines..rallying requires right foot where you wouldn't dream of using on tarmac
Saw alot of corners where you're full sending on some tight opening bends where could be feathering up the momentum as the corner opens to carry alot more exit speed same for entry into alot of corners could carry alot more pace through a good few sections by finding the right line to carry the car into the bend sideways and throttle n gearing the car to steer more than steering input.
You're an amazing tarmac driver and I love watching you immerse into the shadow realms of off-road. Keep up the sweat. ♥️
"this setup should make us very rotate-y"
spins immediately
really turning the editing up a notch these past videos, love to see it. Great stuff!
It's a little over edited IMO
Jimmy
Do you realize how much better people have gotten at this game since it was released?
The last time you tried setting a record was only a few months after release
yo. who cares, kid?
He still has pace to set a #1 on some of the less competitive boards 💪
@Satanic Panic Fun and Games >implying the official account for these games doesn't know what they're talking about
Man NGL I love your Group B edit, It's such awesomely edited. Plzzz do more of those videos !!!
@@Gigachu. appreciate it bro 🙏
I'll make sure to keep it up
While it's always fun to see who can be the fastest, its those long challenges where you see who is consistently fast without having to retry 100 times.
Imagine having F1-like attention for 3-10 minutes straight, rally esports runs are insane.
@@EASPORTSWRC
Huh? It's the same for any racing game 😂😂😂😂😂😂

***SPITS DRINK***
What kind of furious work was that?!?! lmao
Jimmy Broadbent, you've inspired me to buy an entry level wheel and start recording some Dirt Rally 2.0.
I can barely speak whilst playing you're an inspiration ❤
Thank you so so much for being you mate!
Big love
Respect for Jimmer, he doesn't make easy for himself with first person camera, manuel and no tunes from the internet
When it comes to stage records, the suspension and gearing setup make a _massive_ difference. You can look at the leader's setup and watch their replay for an idea of what you need to do to get top times.
I didn't know the suspension was that integral. Any tips or principles for setting that up?
I saw a video of a guy with a full-motion rig break the record for one of the Polish stages.... absolutely insane speeds!
Rally games are hard work, definitely a work out!
That's insane how quick that WR must be, your run looked near perfect
from my (controller) experience, its best to use the clutch often to keep the engine in high revs, and clutch kick often. this way you get more power to the wheels when you need it.
yeah I did this too, very effective on both turbo and non turbo cars
i pulled alot of top 25s, even a couple top 10s and top 5s in Wales and greece. the amount of practice it takes is unreal. im talking days..weeks.. the men at the very top are maniacs!
I hope you make a video out of the McMurtry Spierling at some point!
I remember trying to grind for a WR. It took me nearly 2 weeks to get into the top 100. The closest I got was top 50, something like in 37th place.
Talking and trying to concentrate while driving flat out is definately impressive. Im sure im speaking for most of us when I say, I love the rally videos Jimmer 🙂👌👍very entertaining to watch 👊
More of this please Jimmer! Pleasure to see you push your limits and find that extra second!
Nothing like a bit of furious knob work, at home on a Friday evening 😂😂
I enjoyed this video more than I have of more recent ones. nice to see jimmy relaxed
As someone with a top 500 time in the r5 rally class it’s an incredibly competitive track. Brutally technical and short requiring virtual perfection on every corner. It’s fucking bananas how much sleep I’ve lost on this track to still be 20 ish seconds or so off the world record
This game on a wheel is genuinely the most fun game ever
Been playing some dirt rally and wanting Jimmy to make more! So glad he did
Jimmy this just leaves you the future video idea of finally beating this lap time and being within the top 100
It was fun to race with Jimmer's Lancia ghost weaving around in front.
dirt rally time trialers are crazy, they mastered game, physics, stage and shortcuts
(but he did jokingly mention the strategy was to handbrake every corner). these cars can be VERY understeer prone.
appreciated the non commentary for 30 secs at the 7 min mark, that was cool, more of that plz
The DR2.0 community really is impressive with their speed, nice job Jimmer
The drit series pre dirt 2.0 games always would make me rage so much because they are so unforgiving when going for fast times
Hey Jimmy! I love watching all your videos, the rally stages especially get me going. I’d love to see what you can do in WRC 10 on Sweden shakedown. Please please please do a video on this stage!!!
it has to be said, whoever edits for jimmy or if it is still jimmy they are brilliant i blew pot noodle juice all over my face laughing.
Your delivery and presentation has only gotten better over the years Jimmy :D Quality bro
I still have friends with goals of cracking the Top 500 and to that they would say to you congratulations: ). Nice final run Jimmer
Damn we've been busy, Jimmy is already down to 412th. I just managed 177th with 3.06.094 and I'm pretty stoked that I'm actually above catty7073!
If DR 3.0 or however the next game is called includes better online functionalities, it will be a classic for sure
i don't know about this particular stage, but many of the world records in the game are achieved by cutting the tracks in ways that should be physically impossible irl. i remember watching the wr replay of a stage in greece. a few hundred meters after the start, instead of following the right left on the road, the guy intentionally steered left into a huge ditch on the side of the road, drove through the ditch for 50 meters, then jumped out of it and onto the road again. it was pretty funny to see and he probably saved 3-4 seconds by doing that alone
if you want a laugh look up the poland wrs, they just straightline the stages using fields and risky cuts through tree lines
it's extremely impressive but it's more like trackmania or something at that level, just hoping you get good bounce rng
@@PyroIndigo yeah the trackmania analogy is spot on i think. that's why weekly and monthly event leaderboards are much more relevant to my playstyle, which is "when in doubt, brake a little bit" :)
well, this is all because of SHITTY PHYSICS of this game. The reason why I almost hate such pseudo-sims.
Jimmer looking ripped in that shirt! Calendar when??
These are my favorite Jimmy videos. Thank you!
One of my proudest sim racing achievements is getting a world record on dirt rally II. I got it on the Jagodino stage of the polish rally in the lancia 037. I even did it on the wet game setting.
Liked as always :) , but kinda wish we saw the whole final run. The fast editing is fine for most of it, but we are here to appreciate your driving as much as anything afterall, so always love when we see unedited final runs :)
Ty mate, I'll make sure to include it in the future
@@Jimmy_Broadbent Thanks, PS- This comment made my day :)
Thanks for the inspo Jim, just went 54th fastest!
On another note, those stages around that hilly light-gravel area is so much fun to slide around in DR2
There was a tool for the original Dirt Rally where you could compare your time to the best and get an overheard trace of the two runs. Don't know if they've brought that forward but that would be perfect for the sweaty runs.
The cackle I had when Jimmer’s first time appeared on the leaderboard was probably the hardest I’ve laughed all summer.
thanks for making a video about dr2. i love this game.
The editing in this video is pure chef's kiss 😅
I compete in a LOT of DR2.0 events, it's an awesome sim! If you ever want some tips I'll give you everything I have Jimmer! Cheers mate - from Australia
I really enjoy the meme editing in the videos
Nothing like some spontaneous high speed foliage encounters in Dirt Rally
Dirt rally is amazing I get full gamer sweat all the time playing it and you picked a good region the New Zealand stages are a lot of fun
Hey Jim the lancing delta s4 was actually twin charged. Turbo and supercharged.
Great effort mate keep it up!
You have come a long way since the RBR days! Remember the hosted event you had in 2014? ;)
I can already tell this is gonna be chaos.
Boy jumps back into Dirt Rally 2.0 and expects to break a Group B world record smh
Sweaty Fullbearded silence Jimmy has some potent Chad enegry. Thats kinda scary
Kiwi here, Māori uses the same vowel sounds as Spanish (a like in cAr, e like in Egg, I like the e in mE, o like in bOre, u like oo in moo) and gs are always soft. So if I'm trying to write it phonetically for a British accent... probably something like "Teh-ah-wung-ah" (wung rhyming with sung)
Looks like Jamble Wanglebork has a new editor! digging the vibe
well done jimmer.. playing h pattern manual transmission in a sea of controller times, you're at least top 10 of h pattern drivers
that's cool to see it spelled out simply w/car adjustments - had to do something on the older games gt2 etc.. . I'm a gamer - tinkering w/track mania turbo 1st time in a while - it's tuff 👌✌️
The best rally game ever hands down. I had the world record in Greece wet for 2000s era cars and Germany in the wet with the subaru s4.
Hey jimmy. I love you. We all do. Thank you so much for existing.
Te Awanga Sprint was the first and only course I've cracked top 25 on in Dirt Rally 2. Fun mix of slow and mid speed corners. I've put the car in a tree so many times in the final sector it still haunts me.
I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one sweating as hell while driving that outrageous Lancia Delta S4 :D
It was great to meet you at Brands on Monday, shame the scuffed Supra lived up to its name
We call this game Dirt Souls. The most fun you can have while getting furious and being absolutely rubbish.
This reminds me of how I found your channel, looking for some rally gameplay footage, I think it was Dirt Rally 1. And then I subscribed, saw you doing some races with some F1 drivers, and it's actually from there that I ended up getting into F1.
