      They should "pump" sound through the stereo, like they do in some modern cars. Maybe a AMG/M3/F-Type mode. It would up shift and down shift the same times those cars would (If they were in Auto) and make the same sound.
      Just a thought, some people that have the car might like it.

    As a mobile window tinter here in California, I'm fortunate to be able to drive a lot of different cars, some good, a lot not so good. I had the distinct pleasure to tint a Model S P90D and afterwards the owner was all to happy to take me on a drive. I even got to drive it back. Now, I'm not a stranger to fast cars...my daily driver is a slightly modified Evo 9! But this Tesla, especially in Ludicrous mode, is mind boggling fast...like pull the skin off your face fast! I'd give my first born to be able to be able to own one, but sadly, all that tech is WAY out of my price range.

      Stas G. jshaw6600 Although I realize manual shiftable / flappy paddle transmission would likely be less efficient and slower, it would be a more fun driving experience. Kevin Allen raine2005 Hearing some kind of triumph triple like whistle noise, or turbo spool like noise, mechanical gear winding noise, etc., would be cool. Having seen these first hand, even with the windows down, it's eerie quiet. Electric Golf Carts make more noise. Reminds me of the Top Gear Vid where they turn off the cool cinematic music, and all you hear is tire squealing. I'm not advocating obnoxious noise, but I've gotten out of the wife's lexus and forgotten it was still on... and that's too quiet for me.

    I love how everyone is giving Tesla shit about design, heritage, soul and what not but conveniently fail to mention the drag race nature of this car. For god's if you're in this you will know that there likely isn't a faster car near you... Doesn't that speak to you? If you have to compare it with something sensible it would be something way above it's price point. That just goes to show that you can't please everyone because whenever you're really close they will want heritage, soul or whatever else they can think of.

      Wtf are you even doing on this channel.
      And also, ofcourse cars have a soul.
      A soul is an artificial creation that humans have come up with.
      It doesn't actually mean anything. We use it to describe something that we feel has a universal existence that transcends its material existence.
      A car is a machine, just like a dog is a sack of bones and meat.
      There is absolutely no way to prove the existence of a soul.
      Anything can have a soul, depending on who you ask.
      For example, I feel that some electronics that I own have a soul,.
      Like for instance a graphics card that was my first good graphics card and that died and was resurrected through oven baking. twice.
      I'll never even sell that thing, because I feel like I have a connection to it and it brings me memories.
      And it's not like I'm just crazy, many people go through things like that, because that's how our brain functions.
      Overall, if you're gonna be a smartass, at least actually use your brain and come up with more than just a cynical argument that in reality makes no sense..

      The yearning for the sound of combustion (which is an odd thing to desire because it's simply the by product of exploding noxious fumes) goes away quickly. I talk to car guys all the time about this and they can't imagine NOT wanting the sound of a tuned exhaust note. But I talk to Tesla owners that USED to like that, and they no longer do. Dust a few corvettes and you're tastes in fact change. (former manual C2s 911 owner). Stirring gears is a by product of have an antiquated transmission in the way - which is absorbing power and weight which the Tesla uses for acceleration. The Model S has no traditional transmission. I understand your points because I came from that mindset, but you're longing for a crank to start your model T Ford.

    Matt, I say the following with all due respect, and I hope you take it as constructive criticism...
    Terms like "Limited edition", "if you want one, you gotta buy it now", "available for 10 days only- and thats it!". You know what I'm getting at? It's a self branded T-shirt!! But it sounds like you're trying to sell off a salvage titled car to an ignorant, unsuspecting consumer. Bro, I sincerely love you and your work, and we all make a buck however we can... but pushing t-shirts like that is just so below your level man! Nothing wrong with selling shirts (I love them), it's just the way you're pushing them; and it goes on for almost a full minute at the beginning of the vid! There's no need to jam it down our throats. Your audience (especially the ones who buy the paraphernalia), trusts and respects you enough, that all you gotta do is just tell them what it is, how much it costs, and where to buy it. Skip the grease and the sleaze, pushing the product like that just makes you look bad - and it isn't getting you anymore sales!

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hate to break it to you, but this is by far the most successful shirt sale we've ever had. We tried your way, and it doesn't really work. This way works. In the last week, we've sold 2,000 shirts, more than five times the shirts we've sold in the history of the company.

      You're absolutely right. I'm sure a lot of TH-camrs do, but I wouldn't be able to name even one of them to save my life. I am however, very familiar with the names of the ones who do not: Edward Loh, Jonny Lieberman, and Randy Pobst from Motor Trend; Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond from Top Gear. I don't recall ever seeing Chris Harris hawk his wares in a video; Justin Bell is way too classy; Jay Leno just wouldn't; and pigs would most certainly grow wings before Harry Metcalfe is caught selling a t-shirt of any kind. In all seriousness though, allow me to explain where I'm coming from. There are certain things that pros in the big time must do, and certain things they mustn't do, in order to gain/maintain the admiration and respect of their audience. Although Matt isn't quite at that level yet, I would like to see him there. He is one of my favourite presenters; I love his outlook, his style, and his demeanour. Sure a few quick and easy bucks are there for the taking; but at what cost? What affect does it have on one's reputation to be seen in the same light as those kids and other so called "car reviewers" on the internet who use their videos to sell t-shirts, baseball caps, keychains, and all other manner of junk, in a desperate attempt to avoid a real job. It dismays me to see it. Regardless, my comment is in no way to dis, but was rather just some constructive criticism... free for the taking - or not.

    Matt, as you said "I have to spend a lot of time and energy focusing than if I was actually driving" That is exactly the point of Auto Pilot! (Well at least, one of the benefits) Specifically for people who drive the same exact commute EVERY SINGLE DAY. Often times, they do not pay as much attention. However, with Autopilot, it will encourage them to monitor every little detail to make sure they're safe. It's also beneficial for freeway driving because it can keep its lane well and drive by itself. Seriously cool stuff! Thanks for driving a P90D for us Matt!

    As much as I give credit to Tesla for their electric car achievement it still does not excite me. Yes, I am sure the acceleration would be awesome, but the silence and robotic soul are the killer for me. Other cars with great handling and great fire breathing engines sound exciting even at low speeds. I know it all comes down to a personal preference but it's kind of like who would you rather be dating? A hot super model that likes to scream with an amazing soul... or a cold, silent, robotic, soul less model that can go fast. They both do similar things, but one actually feels alive while the other sits there quietly. I realize each has their strengths and weaknesses. I realize silence can be nice at times. Kudos and recognition to Tesla for making a Ludicrous speed electric car that can blow the doors off most cars in a straight line. It is the future for sure, but I still prefer a screaming, fire breathing, beast of a car or at least some type of hybrid like the 918 or I8 examples. That way you can enjoy having the benefits of both technologies. Matt made an excellent point about the price for entry on this car. For the same price you could buy an amazing fire breathing sports car with better handling, maybe not as fast, but still have money left over for 10 years worth of tires, maintenance, and gas.

    • @qikqbn77
      @qikqbn77 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I have a couple of friends who own them and I have driven and been a passenger in them a few times. Not the P90D model though, but other then the power with upgraded batteries and motors, the technology of the models are all identical inside. Even the lower models have great instant torque and lots of cool functions. I have driven and been in them enough to know they are great technology and I can appreciate why people want them and like them, but they are just not for me for that kind of money. For me its all about the lack of sound, connection to the driving experience, and lack of soul of the car. That's just my humble opinion based on the era of cars I grew up with and have driven. Call me old school, but it's just my personal opinion. For the money I would much rather have a Porsche Panamera or Cayenne GTS or Turbo and still have money left over for 10 years worth of tires/maintenance and gas.. Different strokes for different folks. It's all personal preference.

    Autopilot disclaimer when activating says, "...for use on highways with a center divider... ...It should not be used on other kinds of roads or where the highway has very sharp turns..." Also when its engaged your are supposed to keep your hands on the wheel at all times not like those videos you see on youtube with people waving there hands around. The tech is not fully autonomous yet its meant to be a drivers assistant and is quite nice to use as an extra set of eyes on a long highway road trip

    Maybe it'll go faster if Matt shed a few pounds, have you thought of that?

      I'm sure he's NEVER, EVER thought about his weight!
      As for shedding pounds to make 4k pound cars faster???? Even if he became skinning, it will NOT make any difference on a car!
      We're not talking about motorcycles here...lol If you actually believe a person that is 250lbs driving this car vs a person 180lbs driving the same car would change the performance numbers in ANY way, you need to go out and drive more to gain some more REAL WORLD experince, because it doesn't change shit! Again, he's not on a fucking bike...

      LJ & Son's VLOGS if you think shedding weight on a car in the essence of 80-90lbs doesn’t make a difference, you sir are poorly misinformed. Before I went to the extreme of fully gutting my old Acura TL, I took out just shy of 100lbs and felt a slight difference. Then I took out 600+ and it felt like a totally different car. Just because your own personal butt dyno can’t feel the difference, doesn’t mean you can speak on everyone’s experiences. It makes a difference whether you feel it or not, big or small. It’s common sense lmao. Weight reduction improves a car’s power to weight ratio. Come on dude...

    When you hear an F-16 from the ground, the speed of it with the sound it makes is badass. Having ridin in one, with the canopy down and your helmet on, you can't hear the engine at all (equivalent to riding in a battery operated car) and the badass part is total gone. This is what we petro guys live for, amazing speed with the beautiful sound a finely tuned engine makes, that is the SOUL this car will never posses. Petrohead forever ;)

    Matt neglects to use the term "driver's car" because on the interstates this thing is phenomenal, just instantly obeys your command. The hell with the damn interior, lol.
