I've owned both a Model S 40 (back when they were out in 2012) and a P85D, and the novelty never wears off. The excitement dies down just a bit, naturally, but when I drive any other electric or gas car, I find that they're boring and a pain in my ass. Too slow and not enough room, mostly. That's Tesla Fever!

Everyday Reviews Haha! Well you heard it's supposed to be $35,000 before incentives? Here in California, that'd make it $25,000, not to mention your normal Tesla savings of gas, oil, smog, tune-ups, servicing, and brake pads. An astounding value. Even if they can't hit that target and it's more like $40K, I'd still be happy. Who knows, it may even be $30K! Of course it's extra options will bring it up to $50K, but another epic thing is that by then, you'll see pre-owned Model S for the same price! I can't wait.

Yea...this thing is sick. Honestly I feel like Tesla is a testament to how much the car and oil industry has been taking advantage of the general public for decades. If a small startup can create a car in a few years that's putting all these gargantuan auto companies on the defensive, you know something weird is going on...

I have a Model S in Canada, the 85D version. I've had it just under a month but so far every time I drive it I am in total amazement, the novelty has not worn off. It is truly an absolute amazing car and there is no real competition for this package. It is so quiet, smooth, powerful, roomy, techie, etc. it's literally like driving the perfect future car today.
I couldn't imagine buying an internal combustion engine car again. They feel so noisy, stinky and unrefined in comparison. Not to mention the tiny screens in the dash and a sea of buttons and switches.
There's a phrase in the Tesla forum it goes like this "Everyone who can afford a Model S should buy one" and it's 100% true.

I got my P85 in January 2013. The thrill has never worn off. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. It was the "car of the future" in 2013 and it is still the car of the future in 2015!
I've owned a 85s since 2013. All I can say is that I can not drive any other car. I recently got into an accident and I think i'm going through tesla withdrawal. All I do everyday is look up videos of the car which is how I stumbled across your video.

Mike Lee Did you get hit with a huge repair bill? I've heard repair horror stories with Teslas.
i got t boned mainly on the rear passenger door. There was also damage to the front passenger door and rear panel. The side airbags were deployed. The cost of repairs will be about $21000 which is pretty hefty, but considering what I've read in the past, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting about 2x that much for repairs.
May I never forget this conversation when someone was pleasantly surprised with a $21k repair bill. I read about a similar case online where a guy's insurance wrote off a Model S for an accident that didn't look all that serious.
My 14' 328i got into a accident too, the door got hit ( not a huge accident but surprisingly cost 19k ) its a BMW so not surprised, but and BMW gave us an option of writing it off. Did Tesla also give the same option?
Tesla did not give me that option. Insurance is covering it for me. I don't want to write off this car...its a first generation model s and I want to keep it for as long as I can.
I took delivery of my 85 KW Model S in September of 2013. Let me tell you that the novelty has yet to wear off. Sometimes when I'm driving with my wife I'll accelerate suddenly or perform an aggressive maneuver. This of course elicits an "Why did you do that?" from my wife. My answer is the same every time, "Because I can."
Recently had the pleasure of seeing the P85D in Obsidian Black while charging at the Supercharger in Paramus, NJ. Cool new color. Maybe our next Tesla will be the P85D in Obsidian Black but right now we're still enjoying our 85 in Pearl White with sharp black pano roof contrast. This car keeps you young.

I've had my P85+ for 1.5 years now, and no, the novelty doesn't wear off. It's friggin amazing. I love driving it every single day. I often go on long drives just because. My commute home is only about 10km, but I do a 60km loop just because driving is such a pleasure.
I too drove for even the smallest reason just for some more seat time.
2+ years with my P85 and absolutely still LOVE it!! I no longer look for excuses to drive, but I can't imagine driving anything else. The off-the-line torque never gets old, and is extremely useful. Great review, and spot on. Keep up the good work!
Stephen McCurry Yes, that quick torque changes your driving options a lot. It's like you can just place the car anywhere you want in relation to other cars, almost as if they were standing still. I took my old Prius out for a drive today, and wondered, 'what's wrong with this car?' Then, I realized it just isn't a Tesla.

This car gets better overtime via OTA updates. With a growing supercharging network, we are constantly planning road trips.

I got a Model S 85 in february. needed a car becouse we got a little girl. Tought i was gambling baying an electric car... If I had known how good it is I would have gone for the 85D. Awsome car, great family car😄 and free supercharging as long as the car live, hard to belive...
I can not find any reason to not love my Model S. It is by far the best investment I have made to date. I am loving the fact there are more and more charging stations. I see the P85D in my future....
Thank you for taking the time to explain to parents how useful this car can be for allowing their children to sleep. As a parent taking a break in an air conditioned car while my kids sleep has been one of my favorite ways to take a break the last few years. Nissan Leaf and our Prius before that have been very useful for this. Thank you.

The novelty does NOT wear off any more than a crack addiction wears off!! Been driving mine for almost 2 years. I love, love, love this car and I was never a car person. It is absolutely addicting!!
I have had a P85 (non-D) for two years and 40,000km. This is the first car I have owned where not only has the novelty NOT worn off, I still regularly look for reasons to drive it (oops, forgot the loaf of bread, gotta go!).
It has actually replaced my minivan, since it allows seven passengers plus luggage with the optional child seats in the rear trunk (which your car did not have). At this point in time, no other sedan can accomplish this.
I have never been so happy with ANY consumer goods purchase, and according to the Consumer Reports owner surveys, I am far from being alone.
Like you noted in your review, this car just checks all the right boxes...
If you are thinking about getting one, go ahead, you will not regret it.
i have had my Model S for 1 and a half years and 30,000 miles, I still love to drive it. I even drive for UBER, not for the money, but because it is so fun to drive and it is fun to see other peoples reaction to getting into a Tesla for the first time.

I Love my Tesla. For me the excitement never wears off. I've had the car, 2015 SP85D, for about 2 months. It makes me feel, as though I'm 16 again, I'am 70 years Young. I do wish the cup holders were farther up front, but I'll live with it. And I'm glad, I ordered the car with the bench back seats. Great car !!!!!!!

Agree with other Model S owners - the novelty doesn't wear off! One thing you didn't mention was free high-speed superchargers along major highways. We did a 5600km trip recently and superchargers made it easy.

I just did a test drive in the P85D in Ludicrous mode and could not believe the G,s I was pulling! 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds!! I love this car but the not the price tag LOL
Can't wait to try it and compare it with the insane mode.

Well will wait 3 years and see what happens. I had a Volt for 3 years and now just leased a Camaro RS V6. Buy the time the lease is over I will come back over to EV. $28.400.00 VS $100,000.00 grand. I can by a hell of a lot of gas for the price difference.
Can you pay for the environmental damage? Soon enough there will be a law on carbon emissions to force people to EV. Not saying it's affordable now, there are affordable ones but they look bad and aren't a match to the model S or X. Maybe the middle 3 and theorized model Y can be the game changers.
Give me a break. Will see how it plays out. Right now they are just toys for the 1%
I've had my RWD Model S 85 (non-P) since September last year. Novelty hasn't worn off. Without the engine noise and vibrations, commutes feel more serene and I take random drives just for the sake of driving. And without the underlying lurches of gear shifting, the ride experience is less mechanically-clunky and more uniform.
While it's expensive up-front, something many people don't consider is that you're sort of paying for your fuel/maintenance savings at the beginning. If you own a non-performance Model S for 10 years, it's like buying a $50k gas engine car and adding in all the maintenance and fuel costs over that time. This is assuming Tesla's drive train remains relatively low-maintenance (an optimistic prediction).
I have a P85, I don't get 3.1 0-60 times but 4.2 is not bad either. I have had it for a year now, I still don't get tired of the acceleration, gets me out of jams every day!
Doesn't hurt to have beautiful women pace beside you and tell you how much they love your car...seriously, happens all the time!
I know it's not Tesla but I bought an electric bike (Easy Motion Neo 29er) a couple of years a go and I still love riding it every day to and from work (14km each way). In fact the more I got use to riding it the more fun it became. I have two strong front facing lights on the bike that give a similar effect to car lights and I love riding along this windy bike track I ride along every night doing about 30km/h with minimal effort. Fun and exhilarating!
Soshi MECH You are lucky to find pleasure like that! With me, it's climbing a mountain near my home every few days. Good exercise, reliable experience. I also recently got a Tesla, which is real fun too, but I still go up the mountain, even more than before.
I am another P85D owner, in fact my car is very similar to the one you reviewed except that I have a tan interior. And no, the thrill doesn't wear off, at least it hasn't after four months.

I've had my Model S 3 years, and 60,000 miles. I love driving it as much today, as when it was new!
As an owner of a Tesla Model S S85 for 7 months (and almost 28,000 miles, I can state it never gets old. I very occasionally drive my wife's Ford hybrid, and can say that going back to my Tesla reinitializes the 'Tesla Smile". No gas, no oil changes, no transmission services, minimal services, $7,500 in US federal and $2,500 in state tax rebates, sole occupancy car pool lane, of course THE SUPERCHARGER NETWORK. Yes, I also charge at home, but >95% of my charging has been fast, free and forever at the Tesla superchargers. Would buy again in a nanosecond.
The same car in a smaller size please for Switzerland... Mountain and snow.... 4 wheels drive is a must. Great review! I like all the options you mentions : kids, parking with air-conditioning etc no other reviews are such logical as yours. Thanks.

I can tell you that it won't get boring. We hav had a 90D for 5 months now and it's like we wanna go out and drive. One of the tings that makes it fun is the fact that when you show new pepole the cat they almost always get exited about it and that gives you as a owner a little kick too.
We have the model S p85 and it is just amazing! Tesla made it all so easy. My parents are definitely not good with computers but they are able to use this car without any problems. We make use of the Super Charger network of Tesla every week and it works just great. (fully loaded within 40 minutes)
GREAT question - I echo what so many are saying, simply "no." You are/I am driving the future. It is absolutely incredible. The ride is smooth. As a former Mercedes S Class owner, I can tell you the seats and ride are not in that league, but it is in the same neighborhood. You are driving the safest four door vehicle on the planet, that also happens to be the fastest four door production car on the planet. There are a handful of options that make the car even easier to drive that you missed. It takes a while to get to know a car. I just took a road trip of 3000 miles our first longer range trip. No problems. These folks are invested in this technology and in our happiness.
I rented a Model S P85 for 2-days and it really calmed me down. So relaxing. I'm used to driving 10 mph over the speed limit and always in a rush to get to my destination and this car made me drive 'at' speed limit or slower and I totally loved it, and didn't mind everyone speeding by me on the freeway. I only floored it when I was trying to get away from drivers trailing behind me or staying by my blind spot. So I prob will never get a p85(d) Prob 70D is totally acceptible. Although if I lived in Vancouver like you do, I'd probably never buy one at all. I never needed a car when I lived there. ^_^ Now in car culture L.A.
Brian, I really got Tesla fever last Oct/Nov when AWD & auto pilot was announced. I'm serious, you should buy a Model S (any version is fine), you will not be disappointed. The car is ridiculous.

It hasn't gotten old for me yet. The fun comes standard with the Model S. I have a S 90D. I went with the longer range... and suffer that it "only" goes to 0-60 in 4 seconds.
I decided to use the $30K to put solar cells on my home.

Spot-on review. I absolutely love my P85D! I picked mine up 6 months ago and every time I go to drive it I get excited. It's always fun, comfortable, and cheap to drive ($270 in electricity to drive over 7,500 miles and zero maintenance--not including free supercharging). Other than the initial cost, there are NO downsides in my experience of owning the car for half a year. Feel free to ask me any questions you have. btw, great taste in watches, Brian.

I have a Tesla S and have driven it 50 000 km and no, the novelty does not wear off. I notice it most of all once I get into other cars. I realize how spoiled I am and I have ordered a Model X.
I have been visualizing driving a P85D for a while now, and I have to say... the novelty has not worn off. Its still just as fun as the first time I envisioned holding that steering wheel.

Nice video. I have same but P85 no D, and the novelty does not wear off. There is so much to learn about this car after I bought it Everyday, I seem to learn more new things by watching TH-cam channels of other owners and reviewers. Plus the firmware updates keep the technology fresh. It's the first car that I spend extra time researching to keep it looking as new as possible, cleaning inside and outside, accessorizing it with aftermarket products, charging products etc..the list goes on and on. All while saving the planet at the same time.
I received the 85D (with moon roof and dark blue options), and I love it. Every day its exciting to drive. I am completely amazed at how well it drives.
3 months into owning a Model S 90D, and I still grin every day. Hasn't worn off yet!

I have a P85D... and no,,, IT doesn't. It's so much fun! unlike other sport cars, it is designed to run smooth at slow speed, unlike their counter parts who at low speed can be rough at idle or have a real harsh ride. it is the ultimate car. It's my second TESLA and perhaps won;t be my last. Depending on how the NDP screws up Alberta.
Thank you for the very nice, balanced review. I'm glad you tackled the price thing at the end. Many criticize the Model S for its high price but they don't really consider what they're getting; We're not talking about a Ford Fusion here. Compared to other cars in its class (large, high-performance sedans) it's actually priced quite competitively. This is particularly impressive when you consider this is a low-volume vehicle from a new manufacturer that uses a totally unique drivetrain. Of course there's going to be SOME premium.
I've owned my P85+ for just over a year now and I can say, while the excitement has dimmed a bit, it's still there. Driving is an event now, not just a means of getting from place to place. Once thing I can say for certain is that owning an EV like the Model S has ruined me. I will never buy another gas vehicle. And discussing the car with random strangers who approach you on the street or in a parking lot never gets old.
Brian, it is about torque than horse power, full torque at any RPM !
Also when you have the car idle even in an open area, exhaust air gets inside the cabin for your child's safety.
Toxic from petro engine are more serious than we know, from breathing in while filling up to contact with oil and fluid.
My dad has the same car but in blue I have gotten used to it a little bit but it will never get old (like going zero to sixty in 3 secs.) I love the car and the luxury of the car.

I have watched several reviews of Tesla Model S, in all it's configurations as I am strongly considering purchasing this versus a Panamera GTS. In my humble opinion, no reviewer gave a more thorough review of the "everyday application" and the pros and cons of the vehicle than this one. Enjoyed!
To answer your question, no, the novelty doesn't wear off :) After 1 year, I still look for excuses to drive it. And I only have the 85.
Was privileged to drive a roadster a few years ago. I can understand the Tesla fever. Its a whole different way to drive. I don't know if they have changed it, but I'm sure the acceleration is still similar, and his comments are spot on about it being like analog and digital.

No, it does not become boring. I love every moment!
I'm 4 months in on my P85D. I would say that the novelty does wear off a little but that's why it is novelty. It is still more fun then should be allowed by law. I am forever spoiled for any other car in existence. I love driving my Tesla. In fact on those occasions when I drive my wife's SUV (Toyota Hylander) I can't wait to get back into my Tesla. Anything else is noisy clunky and full of unnecessary steps. They should call it the "inconvenience package". I keep forgetting to turn the car off or lock the doors. My Tesla is what every car should be. Yes there is some room for improvement but based on where I am, I can be patient.
The smile, wonder and excitement never goes away. The best thing we ever did for ourselves and the planet..and it less expensive to own and operate than a Chevy SUV..We put 5k down on our 2013 model s, taking delivery of our P85 11/23/13. 35k miles later..zero fuel cost on the road, $4.68 for each 268 miles when charging at home. Because the monthly payment is, like the guarantee, spread over 8 years, our payment is only $100. more than the above mentioned Chevy..but.. there is low to no fuel cost, zero maintenance cost, zero air and noise pollution and zero range anxiety. Electricity is everywhere. Remember when cars were a symbol of our freedom? Today, we are slaves to our gas engine cars..60 to 120 dollars for fillup every 300 miles. We go anywhere in our Model S anytime, without a thought about fuel cost. You will never regret your Tesla purchase. Our Model s will outlive most all of us, it is that well built. Expensive? How many cars will you own in the next 8 years? 10? 20? Most every car is built 1 a minute. Tesla makes 1000 model S's /month. The quality is amazing, with safety the #1 consideration. To my knowledge, since the introduction of Model S in June of 2012, no Tesla owner or passenger, has ever been injured or killed in accidents occurring in the same ratio and severity as every other vehicle. Consumer Reports: Safest car ever built..Best car ever tested. Agreed. I do not work for Tesla and wish I owned stock. Wouldn't even consider a gas engine car again. They are obsolete, cost a fortune to own and operate and break down regularly. Drivers and passengers are routinely injured and killed in gas engine cars. Gas engine cars put 5 lbs of deadly C02 into the atmosphere for every gallon of gas burned at idle. Do yourself and everyone else a favor..make your next car a Tesla or Tesla equivalent.. Put your deposit down today on the model s or x and for sure the model 3 as soon as Tesla starts taking deposits. You will get to go anywhere you wish..for free. Consumer Reports highest customer satisfaction: 99 out of 100 owners will by another Tesla. Next best..BMW with 68. The smile will never leave your face.

I've got a 2014 p85d. and the novelty does not wear off. there is nothing like this car on the road, and nothing else on the road accelerates like this car. I haven't bought any gas in months, that alone blows my mind.

i have been wanting to get this car for the longest. electric is all i want. and tesla is what i want to get and i will get it some how or another. im currently waiting for the model 3 so i can afford it.
I've had my Model S since 2013 and still love driving it everyday! No issues at all. The only things lacking are cupholders (there are only 2 in the whole car) and a drop down arm rest in the back seat. Otherwise it's a fantastic car and I'm happy to be part of the electric car revolution!

The Model S was my first choice because I love everything about it, but I couldn't afford it.
So I purchased an all electric BMW i3 last year and I LOVE it! No it's not a Tesla and one day when Tesla's are within my price range I'll own one.
BMW was smart to capture the untapped market of people who follow renewable technology and want desperately to stop driving gasoline powered vehicles period!
I take my hat off to BMW for being smart enough to recognize the changing tide's and put something out there the average person with shallow pockets could afford...... So I raised my hand, and I thank BMW 4 thinking about me.
Electric cars have many unbelievable benefits with my 2 favorites being $30 a month to charge my i3 from a regular wall outlet for all of my monthly commuting and Never having to stop at another Gas Station with fluctuating fuel prices!
I really enjoyed your video about the Tesla P85D because it proves that they're continuing to improve the vehicle, and by the time I do get an opportunity to own one all of the issues you've mentioned +, will have been resolved.
In closing I will say that, owning any pure electric vehicle will be a game-changer in a great way for anyone who does their research then ventures out 2 do it, I agree the newness will never wear-off!!!!

You're right about this car. I have test drived one here in Hong Kong and really the acceleration is that great, as if a V-8 Engined Car. Though it was the Model S only.
You really should try the p85d. Big difference. You'll be very impressed.
