  • In this video I finally get to drive the much talked about Tesla Model S. The instant torque and smooth power delivery makes this an amazing car to drive. I demonstrate the AutoPilot feature and dispatch 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds...MIND BLOWING !
    I also talk about owning the car, the very special showroom experience and take a look under the Tesla's skin.
    A big thank you to Emma at Tesla for making this review possible. If you have not driven an electric car then you need to ! Contact Tesla and they will be more than happy to make this happen.

    As an owner of an earlier and slower Model S I expect reviews like this one to have a few stupid errors but I could not fault this video except to say it was too short. Well done ElectroPed.

    A brilliant review Peter, just excellent. I knew this car was going to be interesting but had no idea it was that impressive. The pace of development of electric cars is astonishing to say the least. I am not sure many people out there realize just how far this technology has progressed in recent years, and its not exaggerating to say these things really could sound the death knell for petrol/diesel powered vehicles. And the looks! A staggeringly beautiful design, almost super car like from certain angles, just amazing, as you say, a real game changer. Thank you for this video, if only the fools at 'Top Gear' had the savvy to approach the subject as you do, interesting intelligent presentation, and proper in car road tests.

      Thanks for such lovely comments Nick. It was a very thought provoking car. Astonishing performance but the fact it is a car you could easily live with was the bit I found interesting. Amazing tech too 👍

    I've gone from 0-60 at 2.8 seconds. Admittedly, it was on the Roll 'n' Roll Rollercoaster ride at Disneyland Paris. If only I had a car which could do this. Dream on. :)

    Try going in to a Mercedes dealer and have a look at the new E-class. Then ask what price you have to pay up front for the most powerful version with gas included, free mechanical servicinig on everything related to the engine, fully warranted, etc for 8 years..

      @markmark5269 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own a Tesla, I drive an E Class or an S400 Hybrid at least once a month for a 4 hour round trip for the last 3 years. You are wrong, period. I am a big fan of Benz and was close to putting my money down for an E series as an S is a little big for my city, but then I was given a Tesla for a weekend. Even with my general dislike for American car ethos, and first run build cars from a new company, the Benz wasn't even in the race.
      You Sir, HAVE NO IDEA.

      Agskutter, try driving past a petrol station in a Tesla. Try driving past all the car service places in a Tesla - the service places you still have to take your car into and waste a day regardless if it's free or not.

    "If I owned one of these I'd be doing that all the time and charging up a lot."~
    Yup. That's what you do. It just never get's old.
    I have the "slow one". Mine does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. That is still Ferrari quick. With nothing to wear out.. no clutch, no tune ups... nothing... every light is a smile.

      @PetrolPed  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed the vid. It just happened to be the press demonstrator running. I don't think it would have made too many changes to the video. All the external shoots I used during the video were from the face-lift version.

      Ok, got you!
      Do you like the looks of the face-lifted verson better? At first I didn't really like it that much, but it has grown on me, considerably. In fact I now think it looks even better than the previous (although the car's overall design really hasn't changed that much). So, what do you think?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure...I like them both. The interesting thing is that they don't need lots of radiator space on the front end. Great for low drag.

      +john m Lets see how the Model 3 sells. German car manufacturers get at least quite nervous concerning this car's specification and price. They have some cars featuring more quality, but for much more money. And they have still electric cars with unusable range which are *not* cheaper than the Model 3. I am a German and I recently tested the Volkswagen E Golf which was called a Tesla killer... I can only laugh about this...

    Thanks Pete. Another great video! Very insightful, I have never really looked at Tesla aside from the odd article here and there. In summary, very impressive and does make a compelling case as a daily commuter/supercar!
    Unsure about the lane changing and self steering. I think I'd need to try it to really have a valid opinion but even without this, its still very impressive.
    For me, it will never replace a naturally aspirated V12... a dying breed :( but... for commuting the Model 3 (from the outside anyway) looks very promising.
    Looking forward to the next video! Maybe the S4? ;) Cheers, Matt

      They start at about £58k for the 60kWh two wheel drive. I drove the top spec one and that is about £100k new. The silver car on the video had the new style front grille. The red one was the previous model.

    Nice job. The only thing I noticed wrong was the claim the battery current went straight to the motor, it actually goes via the inverter because the motor is AC and the battery is DC. In addition to converting DC to AC the inverter controls just how much power the motor gets in response to the accelerator pedal position.

    By the way, you didn't mention the cruise control! So what you say? The difference between a Tesla's cruise control Vs a normal car's cruise control is kind of like the same difference you felt overall, it's bloody amazing, yes, a cruise control!

    Mine was supposed to be 2 or 3
    But to achieve 0-60 2.6 and the ludicrous needs 500kw to even work as advertised !! They put v1 to save money and put the crap in mine 450 max power..
    So basically all the people that bought the 10k upgrade got screwed cause it don’t work and it won’t achieve the numbers it’s advertised..
    I’ve been told they did this to over 500 cars no doubt it was cause they wanted to get rid of them and screw the consumers..

    I love electric cars but the range on a charge scares me. so I stick with hybrids. In America you can wake up one day and decide to drive 60 miles on a whim and good luck finding a charging station.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can imagine. On a full charge you have a good 200-250 miles. Tesla is an American company so hopefully Superchargers are coming your way soon !

    • @kimani34

      In Chicago most of the charging stations are at the 2 Tesla dealerships in the entire county sector that spans over a 150 miles in radius. People are so in love with their trucks and suv's out here. I have seen one Tesla on the road in the city this year.

    • @smartelectriccar
      @smartelectriccar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We wake up every day with >200 miles range on our Tesla. Every day, because we plug it in overnight. We've driven 500 miles in a day using the free Tesla supercharging network from Toronto to New York city.

    • @Hirotoro4692
      @Hirotoro4692 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Range is no issue on Tesla, as owners have proven. You drive 250 miles at highway speeds. At 70 mph that's over 3 hours of driving. You stop at a truck stop with a supercharger, plug in. 40 min later, boom, you're good to go another 3 hours.
      You could drive this thing 120 miles and back again on a whim if you woke up with a full charge from your garage overnight.

    • @seanz6586
      @seanz6586 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Worrying for nothing. These have a range of 200 to 300 miles per charge. There are more outlets than gas stations when you think about it. You can even charge at campgrounds. Everyone that owns one usually states range anxiety goes away quickly.

    That seems like a really short gap between turning on the indicator and the car changing lanes, not much of a warning, more saying "I am changing lanes" than "I am going to". That fault really needs fixing.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's longer than it looks and there is collision detection on the car so it will not move into a lane if there is a car in the way.

    • @carboundcyclistuk3775
      @carboundcyclistuk3775 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      well it sounded like 2 to 3 ticks of the indicator at most before I saw the car moving so 3 seconds to be very generous, With two seconds seen as reaction time, this really is nowhere near enough. it may be common practice for some, but nothing like enough for a safe and courteous warning.
      If there was a car in the way the indicators should not even flash as it causes alarm if someone indicates in that way, as it appears the driver is too dumb to have spotted them (I was told that as a learner).
      When I was learning to drive (30+ years ago) I was told that on motorways that you should double the time you warn others when timing indicating.

    if you own a tesla at this point in time, think of yourself as a beta tester. unt superchargers and such are available to the middle class and the masses, a Tesla is only the beginning. plus the batteries could be half the size but the same or even more ammount of energy in 2 years soooooo

    • @julianwaters3946
      @julianwaters3946 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but the battery technology and supercharger network will never advance to the point of being mass market without a significant investment in the industry. With their initial offerings Tesla is making such an investment and they haven't been shy about making it known.
