I personally think that Tesla is one of the most forward thinking auto makers at the moment. They're providing a "real" car that happens to be electric, gets decent range, while also creating support (super chargers) throughout the nation for them. This should've been done a while ago, it's 2014. Kudos to Tesla
One of these pulled up next to me at a red light and I thought it was a Jaguar..... turns out the driver and I ended up parking right next to eachother at a plaza. I said "Nice Jag!" "Nah, man, it's a Tesla Model S" I was like "huuuuuhhh???? An electric car that doesn't look like a golf cart? FUCK ME!"
Thank you! We consider that a huge compliment. From the beginning we set out to create a show with the look of well-budgeted TV production. It can be tough with our tiny staff and budget, but we work hard for quality. We hope you'll subscribe and tell others... Thanks again for watching and commenting!
On this car we thought the screen was so important that we dedicated an entire extra video to just the screen and its operation. The link is in the description of the full review, plus links during playback. You can also watch it here: th-cam.com/video/CLg48uvyNS8/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
+Dominik Cvitic you might be the most uneducated person in existence. Before you make a comment like that, please make sure you know something about what you are talking about.
The greatest car ever made, no car comes anywhere close to the level of this. This car is on top in every category, i mean just look at the fucking thing, it looks insanely gorgeous. The design is drop dead gorgeous, take this over any lambo, ferrari, and it smokes all of them using no gas. Simply nothing better.
These guys are right. The car is phenomenal. The acceleration is addictive. Do not test drive this car unless you are ready to buy it. It is beyond belief how cool this car is. it is the future. I'm hooked and will have to buy one. Not complaining. Thanks Tesla.
I haven't test driven a Model S but I've seen several of them on the highways where I live. A few weeks ago a Model S passed me slowly and drifted up ahead a couple of hundred yards as I admired its sleek beauty. Then it suddenly passed half a dozen cars, taking off at warp speed. I've never seen a car accelerate that fast before from 60 mph to 80+ in about one second. It was impressive. My own car is pretty quick---a Nissan Maxima---but it can't move that fast. I'm thinking that the only drawback to driving a Tesla is that it still lacks the range of a typical gasoline driven engine. But that will change. Within ten years battery technology will improve to the point where you can go 500 or even 1000 miles on a battery charge, at which point gasoline engines will have become truly obsolete.
You forgot to mention Tesla Superchargers. There will be Superchargers all accros the country, and they can charge your Model S for free in less than an hour. That eliminates the range problem
Keep in mind the kind of driving Todd is discussing here is high-speed canyon carving. During that kind of driving both guys found the Karma slightly more confidence inspiring - and were surprised to say the least. However, in terms of Ride Quality in the city, commuting, or test driving situations... yes, the Model S does win. We applaud you for choosing the Model S, as it is definitely the better car. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is definitely one the best review I have watched on youtube. Great work guys! And as for you 'Tesla Model S', just a couple more years and I'll own ya :)
I love your reviews, it's really interesting to have opinions from 2 people instead of only 1 person. Also Model S is literally a prophet in the electric car market
They probably had to cut cost on the interior because of the battery and all the other stuff involved with the car. I'm sure cost will go down and quality will go up as they learn how to reduce cost.
The interior seems on a par with other American luxury cars, with the possible exception of seat comfort. But they're reworking the seats because they've gotten owner suggestions to improve those. I was also surprised to not see a fold down center armrest in the rear seat, but I guess not all luxury cars have those. Maybe they need a European to design the interior. Since they want the car to be successful in Europe, I'm sure they will come out with an interior upgrade option if that proves necessary to meet European expectations. I know that they're working on a right hand drive option for England, Japan, etc. Personally, I'm not overly impressed with European interiors. The seats are overly stiff and uncomfortable and the side bolsters too often are overly restrictive to allow you to reach objects in the car. The controls tend to be a bit idiosyncratic. Space is generally tight. Steering wheels are overly fat. Pedals are often cramped. Materials are generally no better than in American vehicles. One thing about Tesla that was not covered in the video is that the company really listens to their customers and incorporates changes into the car (and their way of doing business) based upon customer feedback. When they get feedback that something needs improvement, they work hard to improve that area.
Yeah they have improved seats going in which can be retrofitted into old Model Ses as well. Curious to see how the are like. The interior is pretty good already, but they can certainly up their game.
If Paul Walker was in a Tesla I'm sure he wouldnt have been killed. The porsche's gas tank exploded upon impact. Batteries don't explode. Tesla is by far, the safest car in the world right now.
I have fallen in love with your reviews guys! Awesome. Very real and to the point reviews with a casual relaxed feel and best part you know its coming from a genuine car enthusiast. I'm hooked. Cheers. P.S. - What a car. I love it. Looks beautiful.
I just drove the Model S for the first time yesterday... The most visceral experience I ever had!!! This automobile will also carve canyon roads beautifully, even compared to most much lighter ICE sports cars. On par with Acura NSX performance, room for 7 passengers, huge cargo space, 0 emissions, ultra low maintenance and NO petrol... Nuff said. TESLA is the future of transport and the FUTURE begins NOW!!!
I just made a mental comparison to those >$150,000 German super-luxury sedan with V12 engines (think S600, 760Li, A8L W12) and the Tesla's electric motor. All does the 'torque from standstill' and whisper quiet environment with unprecedented smoothness in power delivery. Hell, I think the next super-luxury sedans can skip the V12 altogether and place 2 of the Tesla motors on each rear wheel (or all 4 wheels) and be done with that. Equal amount of power & it'll be cheaper/lighter than a big V12 hanging over the front axle as well.
Sylvain Girard Commendable that AMG will spend so much $ to develop such technology even though the Electric Drive lacks any serious business case. I wonder if we'll see a flagship S-Class employing such technologies in the future.
Nima Kalbasi Did I say that the concept of 1 motor per wheel was new? Did my comment have any reference to Tesla? Did I say that the SLS Electric Drive was useful? Crawl back into your cave, troll.
How can I not like this car. I the beginning I wondered if you were "bought" by Tesla, but your evaluation seen to be true and accurate. Yes! A Tesla will be my next car. Period.
Awesome car with a great review. These guys did an incredible job reviewing this car. I have never heard of them, but the cinematography, the sound, the location for the footage -- top notch.
That’s my dream car. My first would probably be the Model 3 for high school. It is more cheaper for the money to Charge the vehicle. Than a fisker or a petrol car. The gasoline wasted my family’s money.
Great review guys, after driving the Tesla I was truly blown away. It's just too big for my needs. I hear it will get new seats for 2014 (much needed) and I agree the interior is too bland for $80-100k car. Otherwise not much wrong!
Great review. Most people talk about the electronic features of this car. You guys talked about something more important and that is the way it drives.
Sent here thanks to the legendary +Marques Brownlee great review. Car looks great, not sure about touch screens though, when you're driving you need to be able to feel your way around the controls so you can keep your eyes on the apex and beyond!
Bet you guys can't wait to get a model 3. I think it'll be more up your alley, Todd. Lighter, smaller, and more agile. Motor and battery options should push the model 3 almost as fast at 1/3 the cost.
I sat in this car yesterday..never heard of the car before...it looks good but things I don't like : 1.the car is very low on the ground 2.you need to have your foot on the acceleration pedal ALL the time,if you take the foot off slightly it comes to almost a dead stop 3.I did not feel safe in it,what I mean is when you are coming out of parking spaces or pulling off from parked position nobody can hear you so they walk behind or infront of the car you are worried you will hit someone or another car.4.you don't feel connected with the car as there is not engine or exhaust noise,so you don't know how fast or slow you are going unless you look at the speedometer. 5. the doors feel a little too light and not solid enough and gives a cheap feel on opening and closing.

Great review guys! Best I've seen, your enthusiasm really shows and keeps it real. And of course the star of the show: Tesla Model S. One hell of a car!!!
Well, the Tesla Superchargers are free to owners. But you're right - the Electricity has to be calculated as well - in the case of this owner he uses the car for more than 100 miles a day and his electricity cost for the car is about $10 a month. Hope that clarifies some. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the detailed review. I could give 10/10 for the practicality and performances when compared to the fisher Karma . This video helped me to make the decision of purchasing S. We encourage you to continue this channel!
I have talked to some of the guys from tesla and they are in fact working on a AWD form of the car and they are also aiming to make a 30k smaller 4door. Everything's looking good for the future of tesla.
another nice review guys. I agree about the interior being on the bland side, but hey, all things considered, Tesla did exceptionally well for a first try. On another note, I think a car of this nature would do well with those automatically adjustable side bolsters that's found in BMW and Mercedes; might help with your impression around corners too.
Good god look at that thing. Red with Grey 21's is just out of this world. Head turner, accident causer everywhere you drive lol greatest car ever made.
Not sure what car they drove but the Model S has several options for the interior trim and lighting. Maybe that car did not have the exotic woods or carbon fiber trim. And the 2014 model has addressed many of the problems of the 2012 and 2013. It gets better each production year, and software patches. The seat upgrades are out, and new seats for 2015. Suspension tweaks are out this summer.
Has anyone heard of Telsa planning to install a solar roof & hood panel? It could be a dedicated source of energy for the audio amps, a/c, screen, which drain the batteries. And the excess energy could be stored in a mini powerwall battery hidden in one of the frunks. What would you call this version?
According to the Tesla Motors ordering page, if you live in Louisiana you can get an extra $14,000 state discount on top of the $7500 federal credit. That means you could get the high-performance models P85 and the new dual-motor P85D for $75k & $85k respectively. A few other states offer from $2500 - $6000 in addition to the Federal rebate and cheapskate Utah gives $600(!! - is that a gas rebate??).
I don't think so. They are saying that the car needs a bit of time to settle into the corner. That suggests body roll and insecurity on turn in. Something which a low centre of gravity counteracts. It might simply be the active air suspension. Because it has to soak up bumps in the road, and take corners. So it adjusts the pressure in the dampers accordingly. I am pretty sure that it is simply the transition from soft to hard that, in the suspension, isn't happening quickly enough.
Once power-cells are created which is on the drawing boards you could in theory go thousands of miles on one charge. This is why I told people to get into Platinum because its going to balloon in value as it has done already
I'd be inclined to agree, however once the supercharger network is fully in place, you're good to go for, basically, as many miles as you'd like. And if the current network does not blow your skirt up, don't worry...I have a feeling that MANY manufacturers will chip in and offer quick charge stations of their own(and the internet electricians will be selling adapters for those networks if required).
Clash Petrol cars will exist for decades from now without problem. There is already an alternate chemical petrol created which will replace oil petrol for when it's over, so there's no need to panic. The reason why electic car's industry will expand widely, is because high taxes will be required if you chose to drive petrol car in the future as they will be considered as toxic use of transport.
I just went by 100x30=3k, but yeh wow, I'm in Australia and that would be an absolute game changer, the cheapest cars I hear of to run are maybe little 4 cylinders, not much distance and $20 a fortnight, but this gives Distance, 160km a day for a month for $10.... Is a winner
Nothing will beat the center gravity since the heaviest part of the car is under the axles. You guys should talk a little bit about specs not just about the feel. That's what makes reviews great: combining the specs and what you feel about them.
The reactions of the reviewers to the handling is different from every other review I've read. Most love the Model S for its near perfect weight distribution, and its ultra low center of gravity. Plus, you have the "+" package that upgraded the suspension, staggered the tires etc. Please explain why your reaction is so different from Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road and Track etc.
There's a handful of states that have outlawed the sales of these... Just because people don't profit from them, not a lot of moving parts that break and need repair and doesn't take gas. Damn the system
Hey Paul & Todd, GREAT video but how is the reliability on the Tesla & how about the customer service? I'm sure you guys probably dont have the car for very long but I was just curious & maybe you could give us some insight, Thanks!
I feel like the seatbelt outlet should be rotated just a touch clockwise to prevent that twisting it has so it could lay across without any pressure points.
what the heck are you talking about being careful about the range? DUDE my f-ing smart electric gets 70 miles per charge and thats far i would never drive 70 miles in a day so 265 miles of range is literally unlimited
It's the beginning of a new chapter. New technology is not cheap, it's not efficient, and it ALWAYS gets cheaper, and gets better. Tesla is the first company to truly break into the electric car segment with "actual" success and tremendous reviews. Makes the future promising.
It is but the feel should be amazing because you have all the torque the entire time, there's no building up to it or changing gears to keep up the power.
I am not talking about any sort of extreme body roll. There will always be body roll. Even a F1 car has it and the engineers setting the cars up for racing, has to take it into account. If the, even just slight, body roll isn't controlled properly and the suspension lets the car lean too much initially before it stiffens up, that will make the car feel insecure and unresponsive on turn in. Regardless of how low the CoG is.
I really LOVE this car! Lots of reviewers says this model beat a lot of car manufacturing giants. Too bad though because I think tesla has no plans bringing this in my country (philippines) this year or until the year 2018.
Where are located during the video clips in the mountains? Btw love your channel nd the tesla.. So cool. Makes me excited for future more powerful electric sport cars. However, i will miss the sound of the ol' gasoline engine.
Cant belive one of you said "Use this battery faster than intended!" In a car that would later have an "Insane" setting. SHout out the Fisker Karma too.
This is a start to lead us in the direction of cars that will travel on a jet stream of air. That will put an end to Big Oil - big polluter. I've even designed my own wheel-less "flying car" (on paper) that will be about 3 feet above the road. I like to call it the Stargate 9000.
agreed and tesla was created last night (compared to other automakers) yet they made car of the year! and honestly i think this car looks good inside out! are you going to be feeling the dash if its fake or real leather wile driving? no as long as it has a nice clean spacious dash then it wins in my book! i think the only high end thing you need in a car (that make it feel 100k) is the seats need to be comfortable.
Wow...I so totally fail at life. I'm going to go bury my head in the sand now. Wow...I only watched that movie about 8552321455874411452386364 times...I fail...lol
I understand the point, but I think batteries can be recycled but not the gas. what you said is correct but only if you don't dispose the batteries correctly.
This is the first I've heard of the brake lights going on when you take your foot off the accelerator. I'm not sure that I like that. People driving behind you would get super annoyed every time you took your foot off at low speeds just cruising (they would think you're trying to brake check them).
When you take your foot off the accelerator, the recharge mechanism takes the spin of the wheels' magnetic motor components and makes it regenerate electricity through spinning in a coil. When a magnet is spun inside a coil, electricity is generated while generating a resistance force to the motion of the magnet. In other words, because of the recharge mechanism, the car will immediately begin decelerating once you take your foot off the accelerator. I think drivers would be more annoyed if your car suddenly started to decelerate in front of their cars without a brake light indication.
David Kim I guess I would be annoyed too, because just taking my foot off the gas wouldn't mean I wanted to decelerate, but it would just mean I wanted to basically maintain the same speed and just keep rolling as long as I still had momentum.
With the Tesla electric car though, it's an electric motor that you are basically stepping on the "switch" to. So if you wanted to maintain your speed, I'd wager you just keep the pedal pressed at the same degree, instead of having to do bursts of ignition between cruise. At least, it would make more sense to me that way.
and if you didn't want the deceleration from the regenerative braking, you can just turn it off :-P you can control a lot of features in this car from that center console
You get used to easing up on the accelerator to slow down slowly w/o putting the brake lights on, and only take your foot fully off of it when you want to slow down *quickly*. It does take some getting used to, but once you do it's quite enjoyable, and you barely ever use your actual brakes so they'll last a long long time. And, as arsunist says, if you still don't like it you can just shut that behavior off, but IMO it's very much worth getting used to it.
I personally think that Tesla is one of the most forward thinking auto makers at the moment. great review guys, the production

The video justified the reputation of Tesla Model S and also scored few notches for itself in visual presentation. Well Done.
The car looks great in that color.
Brilliant review. I would watch you guys on national TV.
I knew I wasn't the only one who thought the interior could use a little work. It's a great car, the interior just needs refinement.

You guys can really sell a car
The Model S sells itself.
Brandon Crouch
Only 2 things prevents you from buying a Model S
1. Not enough money
2. You don't leave in the US
Nintendork AMD really its not enough money. Because you could export it yourself with enough money to most countries
Nintendork AMD what's living in the US got to do with it? It'll be on sale in other countries. Heck, already is!
Nintendork AMD
tesla cars are sold in most other countries as well
MKBHD sent me here
In my California neighborhood, it seems like half of the sedans are Teslas.
Never looked at the netherlands? More people have tesla's instead of audi's or bmw
Great to have you back!
Suspension tweaks are out this summer.
its the accelerator pedal.
thats what the rest of the world calls it
Has anyone heard of Telsa planning to install a solar roof & hood panel? It could be a dedicated source of energy for the audio amps, a/c, screen, which drain the batteries. And the excess energy could be stored in a mini powerwall battery hidden in one of the frunks. What would you call this version?
I love this car I have a family member who owns one and I love the EX-12-367-CXU and the SUV and this review is amazing
Great review. Only part i didn't like was.... comparing the Model S to the Karma.
Coming from someone who replaced a 2011 Audi S4 with a Model S: Yes! Yes it is totally worth it!
This vid is very nicely graded. And the review is as awesome as always. Great job guys :)
Great review! Glad I found you guys.
To be honest, that rubber trim on the driver side door flipped a wee bit was bothering me.
Glad you found us. We appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. (And yes, that trim piece is distracting!)
Great watch - looking forward to watching your review on the tesla model 3 🇬🇧
Once power-cells are created which is on the drawing boards you could in theory go thousands of miles on one charge.
This is why I told people to get into Platinum because its going to balloon in value as it has done already
Best review of this car to date.
Around 10-20 years from now, the electric motor industry could expand widely.
Vannara Meas 20 years cars would probably not exist, because the loss of oil. Near 30 years we wouldnt have oil left.
Clash Now it seems like everything is going to electric.
Clash CNG, LPG, E85...
+Interflow Skies
sources please...
These guys make the best car reviews on TH-cam. Wish they made the review compared to the panemera.
Actually Tesla sells theirs cars online, so you can get them in any State. I've always hated "Stealerships" anyway.
What year is the car tested? I'm contemplating buying a 2013 P85+. That year is one of the most reliable for the Model S.
Hey Paul & Todd, GREAT video but how is the reliability on the Tesla & how about the customer service? I'm sure you guys probably dont have the car for very long but I was just curious & maybe you could give us some insight, Thanks!
Super nice people drive these cars, some of the most considerate on the road!
Fantastic review. Well done guys.
What road is that? Looks pretty awesome to drive Model S on. I like the scenery in the background.
Mike Oporto I'm hoping that I will be able to drive this car in our country atleast in my lifetime
The rubber band in the driver's window hurt my eye. Once I have seen it, I could not unsee it.
Really looking forward to authentic car manufacturers making full electric cars.
Great review I really enjoyed it. Now how do I make it happen to enjoy my very own Tesla?
By far the best car America produces today.
...it takes ages for new videos! BUT man the quality of those are awesome!
This is a start to lead us in the direction of cars that will travel on a jet stream of air. That will put an end to Big Oil - big polluter. I've even designed my own wheel-less "flying car" (on paper) that will be about 3 feet above the road. I like to call it the Stargate 9000.
Guys, I guess you have to update your videos on those cars and/or do one on the Model 3
agreed and tesla was created last night (compared to other automakers) yet they made car of the year! and honestly i think this car looks good inside out! are you going to be feeling the dash if its fake or real leather wile driving? no as long as it has a nice clean spacious dash then it wins in my book! i think the only high end thing you need in a car (that make it feel 100k) is the seats need to be comfortable.
I like the new rating system, the wheels look really good!
I heard if you go 88 mph in a tesla it will do strange things.
Not sure what you mean by this, but no...they don't.
really a Back to the Future reference? and by the way it's a Delorean not a tesla that does strange things.
Wow...I so totally fail at life. I'm going to go bury my head in the sand now. Wow...I only watched that movie about 8552321455874411452386364 times...I fail...lol
"Where we are going, we don't need roads"
"you're gonna see some serious shi*t..." :D
red model s with grey rims is the nicest color combo, model s greatest car ever made
I understand the point, but I think batteries can be recycled but not the gas.
what you said is correct but only if you don't dispose the batteries correctly.
I'm amazed you mentioned Fisker-karma when the car no longer exists
.
Finally a video I want to watch
Very forward looking. What about the autonomy?
Review is very very good. 9/10. Exotic.
