Hi Charles. I agree that it does sound like an electrical problem, but I would definitely go for a quick carb swap, back to keihin, or whatever it had on it, just to rule it out. It will let you know for sure before you go replacing The ignition system
liked and subbed - gonna tell my lectron story... I have one of these carbs and they're great. I have a ktm 125 XC that I bought with 20 hours on it. The old carb had a blown gasket (mikuni), and I replaced it with an amazon kehin 38. I know people will hate it but this was a huge improvement but took some work to tune and eventually I found my way to the billetron 38 since I'm in california and every summer you are going up to elevation or not riding. This carb was great but took some more work to get right. Anyhow I was talking with the lectron people and they mentioned that they had a buyback program for people that wanted to upgrade to the pro. After upgrading to the pro, I felt like they got the idle much better out of the box (my billetron 38 was 1.5 turns lean on the metering rod to get it right) and so far I'm just a bit rich on the 2 additional circuits but ride more enduro/trail stuff so it's not a big deal. Bike starts without a choke cold like yours. Great carb. Hope you get your bike fixed, it does seem like ignition rather than fuel.
Hey Charles I had the same issue on my 06 it was the stator , next to the magnetic pickup wire went bad . Like you thankfully I have backups for my builds.
Could very well be the issue on my end as well! We are going to find out! Also stoked to have some spares, even if we end up buying new, we have some good ones to test with in the meantime
I was hoping for the best but that’s the way it went I ultimately replaced every electrical part on the bike . I really wanted to see the out come on the new Lectron carb but it is what it is with these older 2 smokers
I put the billitron on my trx250r. I used a brass adjuster from an old pj carb and fired it up first kicked. The only adjustment I had to make was to the idle. It's an awsome carburator!
Please put the link to the follow video right in the description for this one? And maybe put an on screen card up at the end as well? It’s frustrating to have to find it by weeding thru the comments.
Like they say around here with tractors… “if it ain’t red, it stays in the shed” 😂 seriously I like them all. I still haven’t even tried that Billetron I bought last year. When I get that cylinder, back I can. Can’t wait! A guy from Lectron told me that to be less sensitive to the outside air, the Lectrons are more sensitive to the engine side. So air leaks are a bigger issue with them. I for sure will do a leak down test before starting her up. Everyone probably should really.
It looked like you were using a non-resistor spark plug. I had a CR250 that would tolerate a non-resistor for a few hours. It began misfiring and exhibited the traits you had. Eventually the rev limit became lower and lower and then wouldn't fire. Pop in a resistor plug and everything was perfect.

Suzukis have plastic linkage bushings top and bottom which connect a rod which opens and closes your power valve. The break and /or come loose frequently. Whenever mine did this and made that iverrev sound at midrange, it was due to a broken bushing. The best thing tobdo is to replace with metal ones from a hardware store. If your plug boot wasn't making good contact and arcing it probably got really hot and may have melted internally or melted the end of the coil wire. I'd swap it for a new one and cut the used end off the wire first. Worst case it fried the coil or cdi. Good luck 👍
Think about it it's happening at high rpm after you richened it lean it back out and it ran better low rpm when you richened it always start tuning at low rpm first then mid range then high rpm
i would think its something to do with the powerjet circuit, or lack of the connection. that rpm range that it misses at is in the range that powerjet would be in use, I remember on my 97-98 CR250's you could lean out the main jet somewhat and the powerjet circuit would bring it all together for a sweet running bike in a way the previous PJ carbs wouldn't. maybe the circuit gives info back to the ignition that makes it act like a rev limiter, maybe extract the component out of keihin carb just so you can plug it in with the lectron carb on bikeand see if it runs different. didn't you say they had a lectron carb that has some kind of connection for the powerjet circuit ?

Fuel isn't atomizing properly at full throttle. You are getting a pure stream of fuel and the combustion is not efficient. Its a carb issue. I get it, you got it for free and you want to make the sponsor look good.
I had the same issue at full trottle they suck after I spent 900$ and they tell me something wrong with bike I put the keihinen back on and have no problem bike as 5 hours on it
Just installed the billetron on my 2019 husky 300. Same exact issue. Ran fine with the stock carb. It has to be the carb causing the issue. Have you figured it out or made a follow up video?
I have not done a follow up video yet due to time constraints, but the issue is most likely the power jet. Adjust yours inward to close off fuel supply under high load. In preparation for the follow up video, I actually ended up putting my bike completely back to stock and testing both my 2004 complete electrical system and 2006 complete electrical system on the bike. It was fine when we went back to stock which blew my mind. Basically, I’m telling you what the next video is going to sum up most likely. Although I will perform the power jet Circuit in that video as well to see if we can prove it to be true. This advice actually came from Lectron. I have never had to adjust a power get out of the box, so it’s quite a bit off the mark in terms of pre set up compared to 99% of these I have used. But holy crap. The bottom end is amazing.
@mxrevival thanks for the info, you're the best. Had a ride planned today, and could probably do it with how good the bottom end is but it's nice to wrap these 2 strokes out when you want. Thanks again
@mxrevival tried some more tuning based on your suggestion. I got it where the bike feels great, but the spark plug is pretty white. If I richen the power jet or metering rod starts to bog. Not sure how it has a rich bogg when it's too lean. Waiting to hear back from lectron
Hi mate thanks for this informative vid. I am wondering - how much tangible difference have you noticed between Billetron and Billetron Pro? I run Billetron on my KTM 300 EXC 2017 and generally love it (yet bottom end power could be higher). However upgrading to Billetron PRO for me means 1000+USD cost (I wont be able to easily sell the Billetron here in Europe), so I really wonder if it is worth it🤷♂. Thanks in advance for any tips.
That’s a great question and I need to finish the top and portion of this video ASAP! I would say that the bottom end difference was pretty awesome/better without question versus the stock carburetor. I do not believe it will be life-changing versus the carburetor you currently have regarding power delivery everywhere else but it will definitely make you happier with your bottom end power! I would say it feels similar to going with shorter or lower gearing, in terms of added power delivery off the bottom. Impressive! There are no wrong answers and I’m sure you can sell the carburetor you’re currently using if you wanted to. There was even a trade-in program for a little while. Shoot me an email anytime if you’d like me to check in on that for you! www.mxrevival.com/contact Thanks for watching!

Good job figuring it out! Turned out we we're simply too rich on the power jet! Here's the follow up vid too th-cam.com/video/PozF77bpkJc/w-d-xo.html
@@mxrevival good work. Started ordering parts for my rm build again also.
How does this compare to the smart carb?
I’d go SmartCarb, personally.
man looks like old bike problems but hay we know how to work threw them. i like my h series on my 08 rm but ya missing some grunt. but really like not having to mess with the air screw thew out the day. would be pretty cool if they had a program where if you could send back an h series and get a discount on the new pro series.
This is actually your old engine dude! The 04…. It’s been solid all these years. I hear you on the H-series, and believe it or not they did offer a program like that. They might still… I’ll send myself an email reminder to check it out for you.
Fuel isn't atomizing properly at full throttle. You are getting a pure stream of fuel and the combustion is not efficient. Its a carb issue. I get it, you got it for free and you want to make the sponsor look good.
I had the same issue at full trottle they suck after I spent 900$ and they tell me something wrong with bike I put the keihinen back on and have no problem bike as 5 hours on it
How many times can I hit like!.?!
@@mxrevivalshould have went with SmartCarb 2 maybe?
@mxrevival tried some more tuning based on your suggestion. I got it where the bike feels great, but the spark plug is pretty white. If I richen the power jet or metering rod starts to bog. Not sure how it has a rich bogg when it's too lean. Waiting to hear back from lectron
@@tonn333either carb is likely to need some adjustment to get it dialed in.

Thanks for watching!
Lectron has a trade in program
@@mxrevival already have the carb and the difference is tangible…love it. I wonder what it will do to the fuel consumption, but the bottom end powr is awesome. Only disappointment I have that I had to buy 3 carbs for the same bike from the same company to finally get to the current awesome level of performance…would have loved to get the billetron pro version already when buying billetron but thats how it is😒
Had the same thing happened to my bike it was to kill switch remove your kill switch totally
Glad you found it! This one is brand new💪 (not that something brand new couldn’t be bad!)
Can I use the RM250 lectron in my 1998 RMX250?
Sputtering means rich. Did you go leaner
How’s it compare to a smart carb
No idea, never used one of those
Sorry you didn't have a productive day...had a stator ho bad once and it acted like that...but who knows...I am sure you'll get it worked out.👍
Certainly wanted something more conclusive but looking back on it I guess it was actually pretty productive… yes, we will! Thanks, Dave!
What happened to the ssr
Can you run this type of carb on doubles and triples?
Absolutely. Depending on the application, I have 100% seen it done & helped customers with Banshees, etc. Thanks for watching & reach out if you need help 💪 www.mxrevival.com/contact
Do they leak like STD carbs when on the side? I'm on the side alot 😂
😅 that’s a great question. I’ve never had an issue with it, but… never had an issue with that with stock carburetors either.
@@mxrevival I know that smartcarb don't. That's why my question 😉
Put a new spark plug .. thats what wrong ... my 06 does the same thing ..sometimes ... the spark is fouled... its works idle to mid.. but craps out inthe higher
It can be a plug in some cases. We found the solution, it’ll be in the next video 🙌 Thanks for watching & your help!
Will the pro work on four strokes
It will not, but we still have you covered! Check out this link, and then select “Gen II Four Stroke” from the drop-down menu.
Complete kit with a throttle assembly and all: www.mxrevival.com/product-page/lectron-carburetors-two-four-strokes
so where is Video 2 and what was the Issue ?
Probably filming tomorrow. If so, solution drops Saturday
any news? im having similar problems 🤔
Not filmed yet but turn your power jet in leaner. If you hear the death rattle, richen back up! We might be too rich. Not confirmed just yet but that’s my next move
sooo its been 2 weeks what was the problem....
Patience, young grasshopper
oi, wheres the complete 1997 rm250 video parts? like finish it before making other vids mate. coming from aus here.
You forgot the 09 YZ, 89 RM & 90 CR! 😂
@@mxrevival you forgot to get the views and subs you wanted
@@mxrevival you forgot to get the views and subs you wanted, just incase you didnt get this
Still sounds a cvnt hair rich to me.
You might be onto something…
LEAN OUT THE PJ CIRCUIT
You nailed it. Have never EVER had one come so far off. Maybe 20 Lectron carbs deep.
Smart carb is better
It's the same company... just a smaller diameter for enduro instead of mx.
No need to put the vent lines in your mouth, lol. Just turn the gas on and lean the bike over til fuel pisses from the vent lines. Primed.
Stock carb, yes
Interesting, my Lectron doesn’t leak gas when tipped over like a stock carb does…
ken carbs is beter
Stator
Could be!
always better paying for a great piece of 50 dollar cardboard box
Not even super 33 tape? Come on Charles, you’re better than that. :)
I’m retired now, don’t get the expensive stuff for free anymore 😂 pretty sure it was still 3M though 😂
