one of my favorite things about this movie (other than the fact that jasmine eats up every look she wears) is the fact that they use actual arabic in written texts, it makes pausing and reading kinda fun when you're from the middle east like i am. also how in the background when the guards and merchants are yelling things, theyre speaking actual arabic. it's those little things that are done right that i love, as opposed to other media ive seen depicting this region where they just put a bunch of gibberish arabic texts rather than making an effort to do it right.
In the animated version the merchant at the start is actually the Genie, so it makes sense for this one to start the same way, it's just that the revelation of the merchant being the genie was removed from the movie.
I LOVE this version. Coming from that part of the world, I identified with so much here. Frankly, animated genie terrified me as a kid (didn't help that I didn't get most of the references and rapid-fire jokes either!). Thank you for an open-minded reaction. Glad you enjoyed it!
Obviously no one can replace Robin Williams, but I still found this movie fun and enjoyable, way more than the other Disney live action movies. Thank you for your lovely reaction! 🌻
I love this interpretation of Jasmine, because she actually gives me Princess Leia vibes a bit 😂 and ironic you mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean, because two of the original animated Aladdin's writers also went in to write Pirates of the Caribbean.
I loved the movie as someone who was a kid when the animated version came out. The only thing I was sad about was that Jafar never turned into the giant snake during the fight.
Actually looking back at the cave scene on this viewing I kinda feel like Abu didn’t technically break the rule here because it looked like the ruby fell and he caught it out of reflex rather than intentionally grabbing it so maybe not really his fault in the long run and the cave was nitpicking and punishing them based on a technicality but really if you wanted to be technical they were touching treasure from the moment that they walked in because there were gems and stuff embedded in all of the walls and the floor so something was bound to set off the alarm.
I think its doesn't matter if you touch them or walk on them, just don't feel tempted like abu definitely was fully tempted to get the last ruby other ones were close calls.
I got to see Aladdin (2019) in theatres when it came out. And I watched it a few times since then. Such a great movie! So glad you enjoyed it. Other great Disney live action remakes were "Lion King" (it looks like something straight out of a National Geographic documentary) and "Beauty and the Beast (2017)" . They're definitely some of my favourite live adaptations compared to some others.
I think comparing the two of them is not right. I mean yes its the same story but they both portrayed the characters their own ways and both were amazing.
Can yall shut up 😭 I don’t care if he’s the original I am not a bias person because “oh he did it first he’s always gonna be the best” NOOOO 😂😂😂 Will Smith is better let’s be honest. Cmon now Will Smith is also a legend and Robin Williams is amazing too. They both have their own take and I like will smith better but they’re both equal. Just stop
Marwan Kenzari that plays Jafar is my favorite in this version. He makes the story more serious, deep and sincere. Other scenes seems just to be in some salut to the animate one, and not meant to be a genuine scene. Jasmines torment over not being heard is also more gripping than the original story. For me the film could have been more different from the animated one if that what it takes to make it a genuine film. That's what most of this new versions of old animated Disney films are struggling with.
OK, I’ll cut to the chase. I find Will Smith’s Genie funnier than Robin Williams’s Genie. Note I said funnier, not more fun if I can make that distinction. Robin Williams’s Genie is probably more fun, but the only funny line of dialogue I remember from him is when Aladdin worries that Jasmine will laugh at him and he says, “A woman appreciates a man who can make her laugh.” Whenever he himself gets a laugh from me, usually when his jaw drops, it’s more because of the animation than Williams. Will Smith’s Genie makes me laugh a lot more. I also enjoy his relationship with the live action Aladdin (Mena Massoud) better than the relationship between the characters in the animated movie. Here the Genie starts out more condescending and resentful towards his latest master, so it has real emotional power when they bond. I also think Aladdin's character is relatively more interesting in this movie. In the old animated one, his main motivation for lying about his identity to Jasmine was that he feared she wouldn’t love him if she knew the truth and the main lesson that he needed to learn was to be more confident in himself. Since it was blatantly obvious to anyone watching that Jasmine fell for Aladdin back when he was a homeless pickpocket, this didn’t make for a very interesting character arc. The 2019 movie makes it much more about power being addictive.
What I really like about this adaptation is that it gives actors of color a place to show their talent to a more mainstream audience, which the original definitely didn’t do (all of the actors, who are supposed to be middle Easter were played by white people, and I get it’s voice acting and 1992, but still). The actor who played Aladdin here, Mena Massoud actually spoked out about not having the same opportunities because of his race, and I think he did a great job here, specially with the fun, silly parts, it sucks that he is not really that well known. I also remember when the trailer came out people were complaining about Jafar being ‘too hot’ and Hot Jafar became a thing 😅. The only actor repeating his role is the voice of the cave, while Gilbert Gottfried was upset he wasn’t asked to repeat the role of Iago, but I see they went for a more menacing, less comedic version of Iago (Alan Tudyk plays him instead). I wish we had the sequel as I would be interested to know how they would continue with him (Iago is my favorite character from the animated movies), but hey we never know…
"where'd he go, minnesota?" 🤣🤣 i really liked this version, but it still doesn't compare to the original! i think cinderella is the best live action, maleficent was pretty great too. love all your LOTR references hahah
I didn't know you were the brother of James in White Noise reacts. That's awesome. I saw they aren't doing videos anymore, but I love both of your channels.
I thought this movie would be more popular then it is because it was really amazing. Kind of sad nobody really talks about it that much. I actually loved it soooo much more then the original. It was perfect in my opinion.
Me too and Aladdin was my second favourite Disney movies from the 90s as a child. -Since I only knew the German dub back than I had not idea that the original Dschini was voice acted by Robin Williams (whom I didn't know that much back then anyway.)
I don't get why people are hating on the live-action movies, I enjoy them for what they are. Are they as good as the animatedversion? No! But they can never be better unless they change the entire story and make it a different version, but that again would bring the hate. It is a lose-lose situation. I enjoyed both this one, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. They are amazing movies in and of themselves =D
I enjoyed each of them exept for Cinderella. It seemed kind of boring to me. I didn't see the live action of the Jungle Book because I loved it so much as a young child that I was scared it would ruin my childhood memories.
I remember reading a rumor somewhere... That Princess Jasmine's suitor Prince Anders would get his own movie. Edit: And who would've thought it's true...🫢
My favourite Disney live action remake is Cinderella (2015). They add depth to the characters (especially the Prince who's just a nameless guy in the animated version), and Cinderella's dress is absolutely stunning!! The transformation scene is top notch!!
@@Rachet87-yp7qq Yes but if they kept the songs would people have liked them? Or just compared them to the original like with every single Disney remake.

The live action Jungle Book and Cinderella are both decent. Little Mermaid had its moments, except I hated Scuttle. Did not care for the Lion King or Beauty & the Beast versions.
I don’t think this movie is underrated as I’ve seen a lot of people call it one of the best live action adaptations of an animated Disney movie, but it is of course judged, as they all are, as inferior to the original work. I don’t like Jafar & Iago nearly as much and maybe could find a few other nitpicks like the hidden wood post steps being a bit ridiculous yet overall it’s a really enjoyable movie.

I don't think this movie is underrated. It's not 1 of the _worst_ live actions, but every thing it does, the cartoon does it better. There's a *reason* if some things work better in animation! The scene where Aladdin is roaming around Agrabah is *SO MUCH MORE FLUID AND DYNAMIC* in the cartoon and so is his escape from the Cave of Wonders(also,we wanna talk about the Cave itself?!?How *COOL AND MENACING* it was in the cartoon 🤩 and how absolutely _plain_ and _utterly forgettable_ it's in this movie?!?🤦♂)!Plus, the fact he gives the kids food in such a rush way during his song doesn't compare *at all* with the emotional scene from the cartoon!Also...Jafar was portraited as an ugly old dude for a reason...who is this Victoria's Secret's model?!?C'mon, guys, let's face it...this movie is cute only if you have *no idea* that the cartoon exists!!!X-P (Jasmine is the only fine thing. Also probably the Genie...but that's it.)
Why can't a bad wizard be attractive? Scare from the old lion king is kind of attractive? Does evil always have to be ugly? Dosn't it make evil more dangerous evil is attractive? Beside even in the original Jafar never looked ugly to me. He has always had a certain charisma.

A lot of people didn't like Marwan as Jafar, but I think my fellow Dutchie did a great job! I guess people rather wanted a 50 yo old play Jafar and make it even creepier than it already is🤷♀️
I've LOVED the original animated Aladdin since it first came out when I was 8 years old. I've collected stuff for it ever since, and I'm an encyclopedia of useless knowledge about every aspect of the franchise. I like this live action remake. I think it respects the original but changes a few things to be its own retelling, and I sincerely think it's one of their best remakes. The first time I saw it in theaters, once the end credits started rolling I turned to the person I went with and quietly said _"They didn't fuck it up!!!"_ 🥹

Fun fact:
Jasmine was actually the only classic Disney princess "in a musical" without her own song.
So they made one for her in this movie.

The first time I saw it in theaters, once the end credits started rolling I turned to the person I went with and quietly said _"They didn't fuck it up!!!"_ 🥹
What I really like about this adaptation is that it gives actors of color a place to show their talent to a more mainstream audience, which the original definitely didn’t do (all of the actors, who are supposed to be middle Eastern were played by white people, and I get it’s voice acting and 1992, but still).
