Since the Vengeance was a newer model then the Executor class (Albeit not by much), and the former is obviously a very cumbersome ship, I actually think it's very plausible that the Vengeance does indeed have equal firepower capabilities. Re-releasing models of effective products in sleeker but mostly equal packages is something very common even today. Just look at video game consoles.
also, the Executor-class' size compared to Vengeance-class might come from Executor being a much better carrier vessel, with large quantities of fighter and bomber squadrons, not to mention other deployable assets (stormtrooper battalions, tank formations, AT-AT formations and others...), and this all takes space, if you want to keep the firepower.
Ps2 slim if SSDs
Thinking about the design compared to the Executor....
1) There is less target profile on the Vengeance. This is easily a mark for the design. Something this big with that type of profile would be fairly hard to hit at long range.
2) No exposed bridge tower is equally important. An Executor could easily get its head cut off.
3) The guns could easily be placed to cover every angle of the ship itself. This can only be a tactical advantage.
4) Depending on fighter complement, this could serve as a very good flagship in a formation.
5) It's not as blocky either. There are very few places for snub fighters to hide from gun emplacements.
6) The engines suffer from underside and rear attack just like the Executor, but that is a flaw of most ships anyway. This is neutral.
I'd say it was a good design, but how exactly would you implement it is left up to the commander I suppose.
I'd use it as an emergency ship for when a battle that NEEDS to be won. This would be called in to turn the tide of a losing battle of significant importance.

A couple notes here. Jerec's SSD was funded and purchased by himself personally, not given to him by the Emperor. He might have then given the designs over to the Empire like he donated the Vengeance II to Death Squadron, but it's clear he was the one responsible for his acquisition of the Star Dreadnought, it was not bequeathed to him like Brawl, Reaper, Lusankya and Executor were to Zsinj, Kaine, Isard and Vader by the Emperor.
It's even possible Jerec hired Lira Wessex, the same woman who designed the Executor, to create the Vengeance for him. If you're going to build an SSD, hiring the person who knows best how to make it is a good idea.

Honestly, I think this is one of if not the coolest ship design in Star Wars.
The vengeance seems to me to be to the Executor what the Sovereign is to the Eclipse.
It is powerful in it's own right, but a mere shadow to its elder sister ship, because only the truly favored Imperials get the best toys to play with.

Love this thing. Jerec's my favorite darksider, and him having this ship is so perfect for him. Slimmer and more aggressive than an Executor, but not as powerful, and practically an insult from the Emperor to Jerec.

The Vengeance is by far my absolute favorite SSD class. Way better than the giant, flying boomerang that's Snoke's Supremacy.
I don't know whether to call it stupid or genius that the Vengeance-Class Destroyer is shaped like a good chunk of a sword (that being the blade itself and the cross guard). I am leaning more towards genius tbh lol. :)

Ramming usually is reserved for a last resort. I'd think the Federation ships in StarTrek would be particularly good at it, depending on how "sharp" the saucer is. The Constitution would be a very dull blade compared to, say, the Sovereign. In Nemesis, they actually did do that.

I remember reading a post-RotJ Legends-based fanfic (and a very good one that fic was) that classified the Remnant's SSD/Star Dreadnought Megador as a modified Vengeance-class Star Dreadnought (basically, that Remnant found Megador in a posession of one of the deceased warlords, with it's engines damaged, so they basically rebuilt the propulsion unit with the array of 19 engines as seen later)
That's basically how the Megador entered service, in an old shipyard before the Orinda campaign. Cool idea

It was refreshing to find them inbetween all the crappy "Reylo" (Rey & Kylo) romance fics (that IMHO plague the SW fanfiction community today) by the merit of being Legends-based alone, and the quality of the stories was a nice surprise, too. :D

If i can be in command of any ship in star wars, it would be the vengeance class dreadnaught because of how badass it looks
I wish that at least one of these SSDs would appear in the movies and would be represented as those near-invincible monsters they are. Star Dreadnought are awsome and need love to!

In the book from the pc Game Tie Fighter in the german version they wrote that this class is a Version of an Executer more for battle of large fleets, while the Executer is a commanding ship including on board factories, Training Facilities and large amount of troops and their Equipment. The Vengance is described as a combination of Battle ship and Aircraft carrier Aline. If this is correct it make sence to use the hull construction for different specialized ships. So this ship should be cheaper and faster to produce then an Executer.

I think the Vengeance is supposed to be a more versatile executor, it has a bigger variety of weapons, while less weapons overall compared to the executor-class.
Or-- it's just the sovereign to the eclipse...
Imagine a ssd that acted in a carrier role filled to the absolute brim with tie fighters that’s terrifying
i quite like the design of it (and yours is awesome btw) it breaks up the standard triangle shape of most imperial ships
I could see the Vengeance being similar in firepower to an Executor (As others have said, they'd be making weapons smaller and the like over time so it makes sense it might be able to fit them more tightly) but also having an option for large amounts of hangar space instead of some of the weapons. I also think that an Executor would still be a lot tougher to take down in terms of sheer shield/hull strength and likely has more independent systems in its design albeit while being a tad slower. (eg. Between that A-Wing crashing into the bridge and the Executor hitting the Death Star, it actually managed to take out a fair few Rebel ships while completely out of control and basically doomed.)
Basically, it's a slight alternative option to the Executor offering the option of increased TIE Fighter numbers or a greater ability to flank along with being a political tool as you mentioned.

Frankly and I know this is off topic but the only reason why I don’t like executer is the because of the bridge which just look odd cause you got a slim ship with a tiny stick sticking out of it, no pun intended

Big ego indeed. Makes you wonder why and/or how he got that thing in the first place. A ship that does everything another shipclass already does and also posesses the same weaknesses just seems unnessecary to me. It looks cool though, I give it that.
If the Vengeance is only slightly smaller than the Executor, but almost certainly has a disproportionately lower firepower in comparison, it seems daft to build more of these ships rather than Executors unless they have their own advantage.
What I'm getting at is the performance of the ship. If I was an Imperial designer, told to build an SSD comparable to an Executor but with lower firepower, I'd probably design the ship to be faster or have stronger shields to even up any fight.
Great video, and the CGI model was also pretty nice addition.
I like the overall design, but if I were to have one I'd heavily modify it to make it worthy of the vengeance designation. Such as running a large scale siege gun down the entire length of the ship, like the peltast class of the Empire of the Hand but on a much larger scale. Maybe with a small variety of munitions types. And some other stuff, stronger shields, substitute a significant portion of the turbolasers with point defense guns, improved hangars.
The *Vengeance*-class is probably one of the more practical, if rare, SSD designs from the Empire.
Also, that feel when you want to be a member but can't afford it. :(

You'd think this thing would have the same amount of weapons as the Executor since they were exactly the same size but the Vengeance class apparently has 1,000 less turbolasers and 1,000 less heavy turbolasers.
My read is that they are NOT the same size though, and the RPG writers just wanted to reuse some Executor stats.
Makes sense that a dark jedi /inquisitor would have a less powerful ship than Vader, the emperor's apprentice and enforcer
There's a story for ya. In fact, I think it may have been told a time or two in the old EU/Legends. Stumbling across an abandoned fleet from The Empire decades, or perhaps centuries, after Endor. Possibly hidden in the void between systems. After all, such a void would be many light years across in the Mid Rim; like the distance between us and Proxima Centauri. It could even be hidden right under Civilization's nose in an oort cloud around a populated planet.
It sorta seems like a budget model SSD; you get all the imposing size and aggressive dagger shape but at a reduced cost, both in credits, material, weaponry, crew, and auxiliary craft. Perhaps it was a budget cutting measure, or a way to give fleet admirals an lesser moffs their own SSDs but keep the big girls for the best and most loyal officers. Perhaps it was a way to display power but at a more measured rate, most places in the galaxy aren't going to have the strength to fend off even a Vengeance SSD so why waste sending an Executor-class SSD?
This is a beautiful ship.
I think it would be great if it had significantly less weapons but to thumb his nose at the Emperor, Jerec had most of the forward superstructure made up as hanger bays...

It’s so tactically unsound to built ships that big, keep them small as possible highly automated for Minimal crew needs, very well armed, fast and manoeuvrable as possible, the empire had a show army,.
Something the first order started to get around. Automated systems, and an army that could fight not a show army like the empire
This particular comment might be a little bit late but I'll say it anyways I think the only reason why it can mount the same amount of firepower is because it doesn't have superstructure and focus specifically on naval warfare instead of acting as a giant military base

I believe the Vengeance should be added into Canon.
The fact that these weren't really used is just another example of how poorly run and bloated the Empire was. It's not like a multi-kilometer ship is cheap!

Vengeance- SSD shapped to a Dark Jedi's ego and Emperor's giant things fetish, but made to remind the commander, who is the S, and who is the D.
Even though it would just be speculation, I would have been interested to hear your thoughts of how the Vengence's different profile and design could have had some mission-specific purposes. I'm sure there could be some benefits in a thinner, less city-looking SSD, even with less firepower or carrying capacity.

I'd like to hear you discuss some of the smaller capital ships of the Empire such as the modular Strike-class cruiser, the originally Imperial Nebulon-B escort frigate and the durable and venerable Carrack-class light cruiser ( a personal favorite of mine). Keep up the great work.

And yet SSD's do not seem to have done much to sustain the Empire. As vanity projects they were impressive. But they usually failed to turn the tides of war.

While the commissioned render looks nice (props to the artist), it has allot more bulk than any other rendition shows it as having. Almost like they cut off the front of a second one, flipped it over, attached it to the underside of the front of the first, and then stepped on it a couple of times to get it flatter. Compare to both the video footage from Dark Forces: Jedi Knight that you have spliced into this vid and the comic imagery. The angle along the length of the ship design's spine where the port and starboard sides meet is allot more pronounced and the lower section of the hull is not mirrored from the top. It instead follows the same line nearly parallel to the upper hull. The engine mounts also do not have the massive blocks in front of them on the DF:JK design. What they rendered is beautiful, but it isn't a Vengeance class.
That bit out of the way, I agree that there is no way it had the same level of fire power as the larger Executor class. 2/3rds to 3/4s of the Executor's or even roughly equivalent to the prototype Star Dreadnaught's firepower more likely.
I think that they could have built a crap tone of tie defenders that would have been way more usefull then this over compinsation project.

Are they truly canon? I haven't played all too much EVE and thought they were scrapped a number of years ago. That said, they're probably on a death star level of power, so yeah, overpowered

I like the lack of an exposed bridge tower on the Vengeance. It looks a lot more sleek and 'battle ready' than the Executor.
My favorite SSD
After the Battle of Endor, in the Post Imperial Era, their are 4 Top Hat Mercenary Confederate Leaders.
First is Ol’ Zoon Volkun. Being the Oldest of the 4 Top Hat Mercenary Leaders (being a Top Hat Mercenary Leader during the Clone Wars), as well as being the most Experienced and the most wise out of the 4, Ol’ Zoon humbly takes command of the Smallest of the 4 Large Flagships, his Subjugator-Class Heavy Cruiser named “The Whisperer,” and allows the Younger Leaders to be ahead of himself.
Next is Ronald Romney. Often called “Red Hat” Romney, he is the Youngest of the Top Hat Leaders (Born shortly after the formation of the Empire), and has the Biggest Ego of all Top Hat Leaders. However, because of his Big Ego, the Two higher leaders push him down a peg and allowed him to be in command of the Praetor Mark II-class Battlecruiser “The Raider.” He takes command of his ship, but still greatly desires being higher up.
Following is Stevenson Blair. As the Second highest leader, he does have an Ego, however, he ensures that he doesn’t puff up his Ego like “Red Hat.” Even though he does have a desire to be the No.1 Leader, he knows he is not fully suited for the task, so he takes on the mantle as No.2 Leader, and is in command of his Vengeance-Class Star Dreadnought “The Autocrat.”
Finally, their is Heinrich Von Ludwig. As the Highest of all the Top Hat Leaders, he has proven himself to be a Master of Tactics, Weaponry, and Cunning. He is the Most Dangerous of all Top Hat Mercenaries, and he is proud to keep it that way. His Flagship, “The Tyrant,” is the largest ship of all the Top Hat Confederacy Unified Fleet, an Executor-Class Super Star Destroyer.

Hey.. unrelated, but did you ever consider that Mon Cal shields should be super effective against concussion missiles due to their being designed to resist oceanic pressures? Could this be the reason the Victory II replaced it's ordinance with ion cannons and turbolaser upgrades?

Hey Eckharts! What do you think of the Starbolt class that's mentioned in the SW:RPG books by FFG?
I think the late age of rebellion books added a bunch of weird republic ships, like the maelstrom. Probably because they came out in 2014 and no one really cared about legends continuity at that point. The starbolt makes sense though.
Kinda hope the artwork for it gets released at some point and looks like a mini Venator or Arquitens
