Dame Kuat Drive yard must be one of the most important and richest company in Star Wars universe because they build everything for the Republic and the Empire
Well, at least Rendili and Fondor produces the same capital ships on a license as well. So it isn't just Kuat, but due to them being the Emperor's favourite they get to experiment with actual good ships as well. Such as the one mentioned in the video.
There are some alternative ship builders but Kuat is the largest and most powerful manufacturer of galactic history, they built enormous factories that span a massive ring around their world that could easily house dreadnoughts.
there are better dreadnought for commanding a fleet but Bellator is more like a battlecruiser it would be great as solo ship for raids or hunting bigger pirates groups and rebel calls, for jobs were you need to sand 3-4 ISD-s but you might loss some
I'd modify it into an interdictor but I won't have it as a flagship since it's a big target. That's why I prefer my imperial 1 class star destroyer "hydra".
@@sugdolomar Imperial I's are... Fine I guess? But I do prefer the legendary Imperial II class. Those heavy batteries are some of the most beautiful things. And I'd rather have this be a planetary siege cruiser. Have it roll up, crush the defense satellites and stations along with adding support to the main fleet as they engage the defense/attacking forces. And I'd rather have the Dominator class Star Destroyer for an interdictor, having power be focused into the gravity wells instead of the weapons would hinder it's use significantly. Yeah it's one of, if not the lightest of the star dreadnoughts used by the empire, but it is still one of the best ships to act as a skirmisher and blockade ship.
Considering it's supposed to be a Star Wars version of the Fast Battleship, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bellator actually had a Class 1 hyperdrive. This plus a bunch of Venators and Victories would definitely be my preferred fleet.
according to Generation Tech: Death Star = 1,000,000,000,000 credits (1 trillion) So the empire could have built around 1428 to 2000 of these beasts instead of the death star. Imagine Thrawn having all these ships at his disposal...

one could likely do so alone and even the largest rebel fleets could never take 20 of them never mind 2000. though they would likely be spread out all over the galaxy
I do love the Bellator. It is the only Imperial Dreadnought I personally approve of. However, I disagree with the classification - as a fast battleship, which the Bellator essentially is, it is more akin to the role of a Battlecruiser than a Dreadnought. Nonetheless, the Bellator was an excellent addition to the Imperial Navy, and my only regret is that they didn't build more of them.
Reminds me of the German "pocket battelships" of WW2, built with the intention that what they can't outrun, they can outfight, and what they can't outfight, they can outrun.
Bellator is a pocket SSD and is a much more practical ship than the Executor. The redundant shield generator placements and the aft/stern weapon emplacements show a more realistic design and appear to have integrated lessons learned against insurrections (Rebel Alliance included). It also appeared to place more importance on its carrier role. The realistic application of weaponry, redundant shield generator placement, the removal of many weaknesses and excesses from the ISD line, engine design and importance of its carrier function seem to show a design philosophy more in line with the future New Republic strategy of a pragmatic approach about the threats it will face and doing away with unnecessary excess. It also happens to be a beautiful ship.
The quad heavy turbolasers on the superstructure aren't actually quad heavy turbolasers but double ultra heavy turbolasers and the ball turrets are also not all ion cannons but a 2x2 combination of both.
The perceived vulnerability in Star Destroyers defences from behind, isn't really that big of a deal, given that the radiation from the stardrives (even at idle) would have been too much for fighter shields to handle. My biggest peeve in Sci-Fi space combat is seeing a fighter or small capital ship going through the exhaust trail of a big ship with no effect!
This may be my favorite Imperial Dreadnought design. The Bellator just feels like a more practical design than the super massive executor or assertor classes (although dreadnoughts were just overkill in general)
Hi Meta, great video =) I love most of Hansel's work, however he tends to go over the top with the addition of many turbolaser emplacements instead of something more sleek and less conspicuous . I understand why he does it, he draws inspiration on WW II battleships. Don't get me wrong he has great care and logic in doing these things, as you've mentioned, the stepped and spaced weapon placement and coverage.
I get what you mean ... ... at the same time, you can never have quite enough firepower, especially when essentially engaged in a carrier-on-carrier, much like the USN vs IJN during WWII. Having that many turbolasers, especially heavy turbolasers, you could engage enemy ships at a much longer range. Of course, there is always the chance that some may sneak through, so have additional, staggered secondary and tertiary weapons, especially as close in defense makes sense ... ... that saying, I agree: the resulting design looks completely 'cluttered', with the sheer amount of weaponry installed, not unlike the _Iowa_ Class, and especially the designed - but never built - _Montana_ Class Battleships ... But, then again, in the near-hard vacuum of space, having that much armament wouldn't matter, since friction hardly exists, meaning being sleak, much like an SSBN, wouldn't be necessary at all ... An alternative would be to hide most of armament beneath hatches, that, like stage lifts, opens, and allows the additional weapons to 'pop up' ... but that would require an insane amount of engineering ...
I do love the design of this ship. It looks positively imperial, has fewer weak points than the imperial and isn't nowhere as ridiculous as the Executor or the Assertor. Whom are these giant behemoths even supposed to be used against? The Yuuhzan Vong?
2:22 - 2:41 Imperial Military Logistics: "Turrets at the back of the ship? That's stupid!!!!!" Millennium Falcon gets away by strapping to the back of an ISD Millennium Falcon does the same with the Eclipse II and hacks its hyperdrive to ram into the Galaxy Gun Oh what problems the Empire could've avoided if this feature was much more common
Still my favorite ship, not sure why we don't see it more often. That combination of speed and firepower can eat an ISD or Mon Cal Cruiser for breakfast.
To me this was the most practical SSD design. The Executor class, while being more powerful, was huge to a point where it is very difficult to maneuver in crowded star systems, let alone in fleet actions. The Bellator still has massive firepower next to most other vessels and has a lot more ease of movement. Essentially it is like the German pocket battleships of world war 2. Powerful enough to eclipse its prey with ease and fast enough to outrun anything that can outgun it.
this is probably my favourite Empire ship. i just wish the first order had taken hints from this for their dreadnaught, that pesky resistance loud mouth Poe Dameron woundn't have stood a chance.
I have an idea for a ship: The _Venator_ II-Class Star Destroyer. Basically: take a Venator, smooth out the sides, put both command bulbs directly on top of a superstructure platform, and keep the ventral hangar in about the same place at about the same size, adding more hangars to the sides for more fighters. It'd be used as a flexible ship, with balanced carrying capabilities, speed, and firepower. Pound-for-pound (ignoring size), it'd have about 85% of the Imperial II's firepower, 95% of the Venator's carrying capacity, 100% of the Venator's point-defense, 130% of the Imperial II's shields, and 150% of the Imperial II's maneuverability. it would move at about 1200 kmph in-atmosphere, have a range of 300000 light-years, and have a class 1.5 Hyperdrive (slower than the Venator, but still better than an ISD). The ship would be about 2400 km long, and 1200 wide.
One mistake I just noticed while rewatching this, you mention the ion cannons are best used via broadsides, as you show the bow of the vessel, but the angle of the hull allows many of the side mounted ion cannons to fire directly to the front, which gives head on the highest output of fire from the ion cannons Nose of the amount of turbo lasers and ion cannons with a clear line of fire is impressive, as is the broadside of course. Overall it’s just a beast
Looking at those prices, I say it was pretty damn sporting of Kuat to charge by the meter for Star Destroyers without falling for the temptation to just make them look like pencils.
If you ask me the empire should have stuck with the Bellators and Assertors, they are both big and strong enough to induce fear and handle rebels but aren't so big that it's stupid,
I'm creating a 'Terrodine' class Star Destroyer. It is well suited for long range and heavy broadsides along with room for fighters and a rear hangar that could lock in the bridge of a cr90

Thoughts?
I like this ship. Reminds me of the Kongo class fast battleships. A ship designed to hunt down ships of smaller size and outrun anything it can't outgun.
[In response to the question asked in the video] The best way to fight rebellions in this setting would be a to invest in smaller vessels that patrol in groups with plenty of point defenses and Electronic Warfare support Canon that would be the _Arquitens_ class, _Raider_ class, along with the specialized _Gozanti_ from Rebels. Additionally, bringing in _Acclimator_ variants such as one designed primarily for space combat instead of one that’s basically a large armored transport. Heavier warships such as ISDs and the remaining _Venators_ in service should always be under escort and would serve to coordinate the fleet efforts in a given sector rather than be used to hunt down small cells. If Legends is brought in, then the _Gladiator_ class, _Broadside_ class, _Vindicator_ class, and the _Dreadnought_ classes are a must. Large and flexible enough to operate independently if needed, cheap enough to be produced in bulk, and can easily serve as the command ship in a wolfpack or task force. Empire has the material advantage and the Rebellion has maybe a dozen ships that have a chance of going toe to toe with an ISD. This plan should mitigate the damage from their hit and run attacks and bleed them of resources while having minimal effect on Imperial supplies. Can't run and hide if there are ships in every corner of space. ~Of course spending a fraction of the resources needed to build the various super weapons and superships on public works projects and not going overboard on the authoritarianism would have killed the rebellion long ago, but where's the fun in applying that much logic to this setting?~
