- Our Scat Cat custom 110cc pit bike powered mini bike gets finished up in today's episode of CarsandCameras, and we send it around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix! We change the gearing for more top speed, giving us a top end of around 34 MPH, we install a rear brake, and more. This Scat Cat vintage mini bike has awesome looks, and it rides great too!

They did the same thing to me. When I first started watching, I thought minibikes were just for people who aren't good enough to ride a dirt bike, but now I realize that they're just cool. I'm building one too with a 3.5 horse Briggs. Gonna be slow as hell, but should be a fun project. Good luck on yours!

When drilling you gotta peck at it and use oil to keep it cool and prevent binding.

You guys could try cutting your own custom gears. If you get good at it, you can get the right steel and harden them for strength and wear resistance.

I’ve got a challenge for John. Try and cut an entire sprocket from scratch with the Cross fire Pro.
Easy to cut, hard to get your profile on your tooth. They don’t really have tooling to do it consistently
That’s what I thought he was going to do. Get a premade contour and add a cutout for the hub. Long plasma cuts make for some good footage!

It would be really tricky to get the pitch good enough to work. Plus then the edges need to be tapered which I gues can be done by hand. I haven’t done enough research but I’ll try sometime
You'd need to cut a sprocket from high carbon or alloy steel and heat treat it. A mild steel sprocket would wear out almost instantly.
you guys need to start using that plasma table to start cutting your own custom gears and gear ratios for all your builds...please?!
P.S. Make sure to cut the tooth profiles for the gears for max linear power transfer efficiency from crankshaft to road. I'd love the opportunity to work with you guys. Much love on all your work and rock tf on witch your bad selves~Rage
You guys have some tough backbones , no suspension off-road, my back would not love it at all. I would definitely be fabricating rear swing arm and shocks, and find a pair of forks with suspension.

In Greece we put lifan 110 on our bikes, it's the best engines at low budget!

With drill presses, drilling through hard metal = Slowest setting is the best way. Slow the drill down for harder metals.
A lot of consumer level presses, "low speed" is still way to fast for steel. I have access to a milling machine. It can go nice and slow, or really fast.
Bits last a lot longer too.

Some WD or PB on that drill press goes a long way in the fight to keep bits sharp. Just a tip from an old timer. Honestly soap and water is best as it in non flammable.

The legendary "Scat Cat" LOL. You have to love the naming of some of the products from the 60's and 70's. If only they knew the future meaning of the word....... Scat....... LOL. Several years ago I bought a Hovercraft that needed a lot of work. It was called a "Scat II" LOL. The first thing I did was strip it down, repaired any fiberglass damage (very little), and sent it off to the painter and I told him to paint over the name and NOT to put it back on. Just leave it blank. When asked why, I mentioned something to him about not wanting to ride in a Hovercraft named for sh*t that was used in a sexual manner LOL.

Not sure if you guys know this. On this Auto Clutch Honda motors if you hold down the shifter it works as the clutch for Holeshots.

look at an old Cushman huskie eagle scooter to find you way to get a spring arm pivoting shock absorbing front suspension. use like a saddle seat compression spring. the longer the arm the softer the handle bar jarring.. your cnc would make shorrrt work of the pieces to fab

Guys love this channel , I'd really love to see some more big projects though, like the stuff you guys used be at, drag rail, cross cart etc... The mini bikes just aren't as exciting... Can't put myself in yere shoes tho I suppose! But when ye can!
Honda licenced the semi-automatic shifter clutch ("Slick Shift") mechanism from Jawa, in 1967, paying royalties on all models sold with this feature. All Jawa & CZ 2 stroke road, trials & trail motorcycles have featured a semi-automatic shifter clutch mechanism from 1957 to 2021. I ride a CZ 2500 twin and it's a great feature to have, especially when the clutch cable breaks.
Triumph also out with the Slick Shift back in 1957 to 1958,, look it up.
Honda had bikes with semi-auto trans well before 1967.
I want one of those minibike frames at 7:56 so I can make an electric one w/ 72v 6000w kit w/ an 80v Greenworks battery.... 😁

Lower the tire pressure on those rigid frames to 10-15 lbs and it will help some. Love all the one liners in this video! Grab some 2x4’s and scrap plywood or even repurposed pallet wood and throw together a few waist height mini bike tables !! Get off that concrete and dirt before it gets chilly !! Oh John much love on all your hard work behind the scenes , you should show the folks how much of a PITA the editing can be 🙄 but check through your software for auto volume leveling ! Will tone down the reviving and tool noise that blows out peoples surround sound and I guess headphones 🤷♂️ (not sure who rocks headphones) but super easy and even if your software doesn’t offer it you can grab a free standalone sound leveling dealy that will smooth things out .. PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS AS HATER BS 🙏🏻 I love you dudes so much I would donate all my toys and be your floor sweeping 🧹 buddy just to hang out for a day lol !! Keep the vids coming boys !! Big Winks

Build a suspension for the scat cat minibike, it would be easy to do, and put a Honda XR or an XL 100 or 125cc Motor on it, that would be mint !

You guys have the cross oro so my question is why aren't you putting bigger front sprockets on some of these bikes instead or in addition to rear sprockets. It can give you even more speed for not a lot more work. I've done it on all of my bikes and its a world of difference.

You guys should do a build off where you all have a budget to buy something off of marketplace or Craigslist or junkyard etc. A race to get them running Then hot laps around the track But have a final race where you all go at the same time before times are revealed

Looks like when Ike and Charles were messing with the carb that their is a filler cap miss. Around 13:13-13:17.
That’s an inspection hole for checking timing. Yes, the plug is missing, but there is no oil behind that cover, just the stator.

You could always upgrade the front forks with forks with suspension.
That would be a nice little bike with suspension and lights on it. You should do more builds with those cheap 125 3 speed Chinese engines. They even have one that would make a nice little go-kart with semi-auto 3 speed with reverse, electric start, and wiring harness for $370 on Amazon. Make a small go-kart with a suspension and do it all aluminum and light as can be with... something like a single seat Cazador Monster kart. Small and light so that 125 will still work fine. Get some light aluminum rims too.

Get a scissor lift to roll on vehicles and lift how you want, also put wheel holder in front for bikes. I agree with Charles that a right foot brake be better.
