I love the low horsepower videos. 3 mini-bikes with a combined 15 horsepower (once upon a time) and tons of fun. It was a great way to spend some time watching. Thanks!
Dude when Charles did the little "you can keep on knockin but you can't come in" I instantly thought of cheech from up in smoke lol. You guys are awesome I haven't missed an episode in years. Keep it up guys!
Love the mini bike content. We used to have an old Sears 2-speed mini bike when I was a kid. Had a foot brake that pressed against the tire itself. My grandfather fab’d up a wood block to replace it when it wore out. Worked really well actually. Would love to find one
I'm old. I remember The Three Stooges doing "Dr.", "Dr.", "Dr." I also remember an episode of M*A*S*H when they did a version of it in the 1970s.... Big fan! Reliving my youth through you guys!!!
It was way too long ... i would not have clicked if i had known it was 46 minutes but thank goodness for fast forward... I trimmed it down to about 25 minutes as much of it was just nothing
As a child of the 70s, I remember when these were new. I don't remember them being so sketchy, but that's probably the naivety of youth. Things changed for the better when we got a Z50 though & the Trail 70 was like getting a Ferrari to my brothers & I. I only rode it once. The family rule was we had to be tall enough to ride, & I'm the youngest. It was a couple of years before 1 of my brothers relented to my whining. I took 1 lap of our course & when I got around to the long straight all I wanted to do was a top speed run. I did it & when the corner came, I went straight... ....into the trees. By the time I was allowed to ride it again, it was gone. This is why I like your channel, memories. Keep up the great work.
On the roller bearing Tecs, the cover goes on (with the bearing in it,) then the snap ring, then the oil seal. To remove the cover, remove the seal first, then the snap ring, then the cover. Pretty cool to see an HS35/HS40 with one....Out of the dozen Tecs I've owned, none have had a bearing. Tec is a good motor....WHEN it runs. Also.....for HS40 and HS50 blocks only, the ARC billet rod #6282 for the OHV Enduro engines will actually fit. The dipper is slightly off due to the angled cylinder of the OHV, but it still works, and is cheap insurance since Tecs have poor oiling to the stock rod.
Have a look at the piston and bore, I had an H50 which ran like a hammer in a tin bucket! 😮 the big end, crank bearings, piston rings and bore were totally worn out like yours yet it still ran.
I saw a fat tire trail bike at Lowes for $800. It's tempting. I have a lot of mountain trails right near me and I think to would work. Might be some ruts, rocks, roots, and steep parts I'd have to stand and throttle the bike through it though. I think it would fit in the back of my Pacifica too. Would even have to deal with a trailer.
@@derpydog1008 it wasn't like th smaller Coleman bikes. Had big tires. Bigger everything really. Been reading and it says it has some kind of gear ruduction / cvt transmission. That worries me a little if I'm being honest. Has a headlight. That's a bonus. Does 20mph or so out of the box. 20-26 ungoverened.
I’m with you John, old Tecumseh’s are cool! Even though you’ve all decided to part it out. I hope somehow you guys change your minds and find a way to fix it. It would make the story even cooler!
We had a Trail Horse when I was young it was pretty rare with a 6.5hp Tecumseh, straight pipe and cone filter stock. My sister whiskey throttled straight up on a wheelie drug behind it about 50 feet it's one of my favorite memories as a kid. Fun bike wish I still had it.
That's wide open and it's making a lot of noise. why is it making so much noise? Ike always makes me LMFAO. that description that Ike mentioned is definitely a a rod knock. that was really good save that Charles did there. Ike ran over Charles air cleaner. this video was definitely hilarious.
I'd imagine that it would be possible for a machine-shop to put a bushing into the block and save it. Granted, the hole for the governor shaft would need bushed too, and there might be other damage from all that metal and silicone floating around in there. Still, might be a worthwhile block to keep around for experimental builds/mods.
I'm amazed that you all didn't start quoting lines from your favorite movie, there were a lot of events that something from Fast & Furious could have been used. That generation of Tecumseh engine has a reputation for grenading, I am impressed that Ike didn't catch any shrapnel. Looked like great fun!
Doctor!.........Doctor!..............Doctor!....................it was "Spies Like Us" with Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase. Or "Spione wie wir" like it was called here in Germany. :-) Loved it!
OMG I'm laughing my arse off. That was a blast and the race was so close. Makes me want to grab me a mini bike now. Oh yeah, my coasters are still looking good.
You guys would know more about this than I do. But, I've always thought Tecumseh's were kinda garbage. Wouldn't those things be better off with Briggs in them?
Yes tecumsehs are a lesser quality engine than briggs Tecumsehs tend to leak oil faster than any other brand ive seen tecumsehs when they develop the slightest rod knock its best to go ahead and start looking for a replacement engine immediately because it wont be long before it throws parts of the connecting rod out of the block
My older brother had an old Rupp Roadster 2 that had a Tecumseh motor, and it never failed. Of course, other parts broke, and were unable to be replaced. (This back in the 80s, long after they went out of production, and long before the internet.) We would ride double, and he could get air off a hill in the woods behind our house.
Oh I was wondering how long you were going to take to clue Isaac in on. You gave him a junk mini bike and then on the teardown you found out just how bad it was. Hilarious😂 . Sometimes you just wear out a motor till you can't fix it. No more 😔RIP🙏🇺🇸

You always had to have the coil rotated because of variable timing before you could set the points . Also they all would blow valve seats . For as the bearing in the side cover . You could still put replacement bushings in the block but may not be able to find them anymore . I haven had any luck lately the last bushing kit I installed was in 2002 on a tiller engine
To remove that side cover, you have to first remove the crank seal. Wood screws and a prybar work best. Then remove the c-clip on the bearing. When you reassemble, you have to replace the seal. Wow that coulda been worse? Good times otherwise, I gotta chuckle outa this. Thank you for a bright spot. [I'm in the Burbs of Detroit, the weather is trying to make up her mind.]
6:00 One thing I have learned in my days of running small engines: MOST folks that get them NEVER EVER EVER change the oil. They have this twisted idea that if there is enough on the dipstick to see, they're all good, and if not, just add a little until you can and keep going. This rapidly accelerates the demise of the engine, due to acid buildup, followed by internal surface corrosion and embrittlement, followed by advanced abrasion, followed by loosening of clearances so that in a very short time [relative to their potentially living up to 100 years] they begin to wear out and fail. While many such engines MIGHT be rebuildable, I got hold of one which was NOT [the pistons, normal or oversized simply could no longer be purchased (and now I know why the pressure washer it came on was being sold as a close-out model!)] so I simply had to salvage the usable bits off of it and put it in my scrap aluminum collection. Other much older engines by said manufacturer can still be purchased, and I was given one such engine [because the owner thought it had locked up, but it turned out that ONLY the pull cord was locked up, so I found some replacement parts for that and will be assembling it eventually when I have time] that I can use for the same pressure washer, but which is slightly more powerful. I have already thoroughly gone through said engine, and while in storage, I have intentionally had it full of ATF, which, as some of you may know, has dispersant and detergent additives, making it a perfect slow soaking solvent to remove decades of corrosion and carbon buildup. That way, when I go back together with it, I will put some high zinc and molly additive in it, and give it a gentle RE-break-in period to kinda fill in any tiny little voids I can before putting it back into service. As it is, in my opinion, too small for a performance engine, AND I need my pressure washer back in the worst way, I'm going to leave it to that job. I have two 8 hp Briggs, one 8 hp Honda [original] one ten hp Tecumseh laying around for such ideas. And, over time, I will probably come up with more.
Many years ago I read an article about them . There were some that had larger engines put in and a few even had ac installed . About 45 mph was about normal . There was some clubs that traveled the country . When I was about 14 I had the chance to buy one , but my dad said no , I have always wanted one . One day I may build a replica.
Carb Cleaning Tip: use a simple DIY soda blaster to Quickly remove Corrosion & rust from caqrb body .. To make sodablaster put a T-fitting on end of cheap Blow off tool ( 1/8" NPT T will fit most ) add a short length of hose to end of T pointing downward with loose end in a box of baking soda. And Do the soda blasting outside away from tools and metal .. Thouroughly clean any remaning soda from all metal, as it is corrosive if left on metal.. then use torch tip cleaners to clean jets ...

Great episode 👏
Ike.. "It feels funny when i pull it". 🤣😂 The look on John and Charles' face was priceless.

More proof that Charles is an person of the highest caliber. What a great dude.
