Ahhh!!! Steve!!! Right on again! I actually bought this car in the same color configuration and agree on just about every point. I absolutely love the car, but do find the road noise to be way more present than in my Audi Q5. I also don't have issue with my seat bottoms being too short, but know that's an issue with men---but I'm single now and don't care! LOL I think it's super cute and fun to drive---zippy and fitting for myself and my two little girls. The appeal to women is probably right on! I'm glad your wife liked it---let's hear her review! Ha! Kind of disappointed you didn't love the car more, but you're still my favorite critic by far! Thanks for a great review!
First congratulations! :-) I agree with you it's superb to drive and looking cute! I ordered 25dxdrive xline as I'm from UK I'm so excited about the car! What's your experiences until now? Hope its goes well!
+Alan AAA I think it's so fun to drive. I live in a small mountain community and have some great curvy mountain roads to drive on! Sport mode is distinctly different and so fun because it's almost anticipating your next move! I have found a tiny lag when starting off at lights when in comfort mode. Only sometimes and wondering if that might lessen over time as I learn more about the car. I think there is plenty of room for myself and my two little girls...but we are American and expect more room---so my ex husband who is 6'4" found it a little tight getting in! The run flats are loud, but that wasn't a concern of mine for whatever reason. I love the lightweight body feel and how nimble it is getting around town and parking. Enjoy it and report back! Also, join bimmerpost if you haven't already!
+ThatGirlAshli Thanks for the feedback....excellent stuff! I wish I had liked it more, too. Glad you're enjoying yours. It's always cool to hear from actual owners. I ordered this one based on your request.
+Alan AAA I drove the GLA, but I didn't find it exciting enough-- lack of better description, it feels heavy. I will say the GLC was awesome and if it was more in line with my budget I would have gotten that and been very happy!
+ThatGirlAshli I am of the same opinion, although i did like the GLA i found it too small in the cabin. GLC was way nicer and more comfortable, however the waiting time was too long and a bit over my budget. I am getting my x1 this Thursday and i can't wait, ordered mine black on black.
Two things are objectionable about this car. 1) the obscene lack of standard features for the price. Come on BMW, a backup camera is standard on virtually every new car in America including a $13k Kia Rio. but you have to drop $1100 for it in an X1? 2) The standard seats are pretty bad. Hard and short and straight out of the mini countryman. Not up to par for a BMW. The sport seats are a lot better. Thankfully they will be a standalone option for 2017. Everyone complaining about the FWD-based architecture is delusional. You won't find a single RWD-based vehicle in this segment (premium or otherwise). It just doesn't make any economic sense for a vehicle below $40k and the reason this car has such great space for the size is because of the FWD architecture. The old X1 was terrible and cramped. I wouldn't wish sitting in the back seat of that on my worst enemies. So you can have a nice roomy and flexible FWD-based utility vehicle starting in the low-to-mid 30k range or you can have a >$40k car based on RWD that is much less spacious and practical. Sweet jebus no one is taking these to the track. They are for hauling your kids to school and running to the home store on the weekends.
Doesn't surprise me one bit that another BMW falls short of its predecessor. Sad because I love the way my mother in law's X1 drives but like the looks of the new X1 better.
Is it me or is BMW slowly becoming a "pretender" ultimate driving machine? By softening up their line-up for wider appeal, are they becoming "generic" German? I wonder openly since 2012 3 series.
I owned 2010 328i for 3 years but did not get 2013 as was not compelling enough, felt too soft. Before, a 3 series was a much tighter, sportier proposition. now, I feel it a very capable big, soft car. I guess that is what a lot of people want which is fine.
Another great review, thanks. Curse you X1, curse you! You killed the better 328i/330i wagon and I shall never forgive for that. Go back to where you came and let us have our (better) wagons back. You too X3...be gone with yourself too.
no the lack of sales killed the sport wagon. Unfortunately, Americans just don't want wagons. You can still get the 3-series wagon but BMW has pushed it so far upmarket (Base price north of $41k) that it's a terrible value proposition.
CR ripped this thing a new one, not as good as the outgoing model. BMW letting its customers down just like Daimler with its crummy CLR. FWD and luxury should not be in the same sentence.
they save weight and so BMW is loath to get rid of them. However, in the X1 you can get regular tires and a spare as as no charge option if you want to.
There is a not a single RWD based car in this segment premium or otherwise. It just doesn't make economic sense anymore. Besides BMW has shown with the minis that they can make FWD cars that handle well and are fun to drive. I've driven both the old and the new X1 and the new one is better by a country mile in all respects.

I agree with you about the seats. Also feels a little bit low rent too. I'm going with a 3 series wagon instead.
Yesss! I wish more Americans thought this way.
too bad the Wagon starts at $6k more than the X1. And you have to get the sport suspension or else the F31 is horrible.
I recall BMW is working on a X2. It's basically a X1 in "coupe" form, meaning a swoopier roof line.
I agree with you about the lack of safety equipment in the X1. For a $43k, shouldn't blind spot monitoring be standard?
and a backup camera with is standard on a freaking 13k kia rio
best off-road ever seen in the video

Good review
Hey Steve are you going to do a review on 2016 Chevy Malibu premier soon?
Next week, as a matter of fact.
+TestDriveNow.com featuring Auto Critic Steve Hammes thanks Steve , can't wait

Wagons are getting unreasonably expensive in US.
The least boring vehicle in a very boring segment..
I think about the morons spending >$50k for a CLA AMG and just laugh my ass off.
Kids.. wait till you have kids..
I'm going to also get hate for this but, it looks like a less bulky nissan Rouge
from the side
I hate short seat bottoms.
Yes agreed ... Thigh extensions are great to have

Run Flats Suck. Wish BMW would finally give them up.
they save weight and so BMW is loath to get rid of them. However, in the X1 you can get regular tires and a spare as as no charge option if you want to.
I hate how they have so many different cars, that look the same, just bigger or smaller lol
its confusing
Really though I been saying that for a minute they doing to much they making cars just to be making them or something and they look alike sad
BMW tires are usually noisy PERIODT.
I don't know what to think of this vehicle. It's not terrible looking, but it's just kind of boring.
+Frozen Canuck Patrick James the whole segment is boring, but within its segment, it's the most dynamic one
FWD BMW?
No thanks.
