Excellent review ! I saw one at my local BMW dealership. It looks far better than the original X1 (inside and out). What impressed me was the upgraded interior (when compared to the old one) and the HUGE amount of legroom , the old X1 was pretty tight in the back.
You're my favorite reviewer. Great job on this one as usual. I got the X1 before your review and you are spot on. I've owned BMW's in the past, and though the X1 is a shared platform w/ Mini, it still drives like a true BMW. Was eyeing the X3, but when I went to the showroom, the X1 caught my eye first. I thought it was the X3. So happy with the X1.
Great review... keep up the good work. I'm going to go test drive an X1 this weekend. And you are right... as a potential BMW X1 buyer... I don't care that it shares a platform with the Mini. Minis are great fun cars too and a 1st cousin to the BMW family. The X1 will be the little sporty brother to the rest of the BMW family.
its really embarassing to drive X1 even if its BMW brand. Why do i have to drive cheapest model and pay over $40k. There is nothing to brag about it. X6 model sounds luxury but X1?? hahahaha
you are such a great reviewer, you have a great talent that i can only compare with the best of the best. keep it up bro. BTW, do u test ur cars in Toronto or Ottawa, and do you only drive an Audi A7
+Basil Akasheh I'm based in BC, the plates are from the manufacturer based in Ontario. Yes I drive my A7 and my 1997 Carrera 4S plus my 1987 VW Vanagon...
What's with Euro vehicles having drop down back headrests (which I prefer, better site lines) while when they hit NA we get standard back headrests which never can get out of the way (without removing them)?
awesome review along with an overview of the competition. after looking at the Merc's c class interior, I feel BMW needs to do something about the black dashboard and buttons.
I have 328 Wagon, the big difference between the now old X1 and the wagon, was the price point, for some reason you pay a lot more for the 328 wagon, that could be one the reason why it didn't sell as well. I chose the 328d variant, because of the great fuel economy, Calgary - Vancouver on a 55 liter tank!
"it drives like a car", but does it drive like a BMW? You haven't mentioned much about its driving feel, you didn't even mentioned the gearbox or how the AWD system works :)
I am a big fan of your reviews, following every single upload of your awesome videos !!am living in the US, so could you please mention the fuel economy in mpg in addition to kph. Thank you
If anyone is seriously looking to purchase this car I highly recommend watching and reading Consumer Reports review and ratings of this vehicle. They nail it. The BMW X1 is the same platform as the existing Mini Clubman and the soon to arrive 2017 Mini Countryman and on the Mini Clubman it actually works out ok...on the X1 it falls far short and is far from the ultimate driving machine BMW boats to be. Zack alludes to this subtly in the end . This is a showroom vehicle that has an Ok cabin but you are basically paying for the BMW name not much else. The Ford Escape AWD 245 HP turbo drives better, has a nicer cabin, and is more reliable. The RAV 4 matches this too although not as quick or good on handling. I have owned a Cooper S a John Cooper Works, a Countryman and GTI and this vehicle, the X1 was loud and poor quality overall on the new platform. It looks great and looks even better in the showroom is is relying on branding to sell.
and while we are at. 95% of the polished professional reviews you are watching on youtube are by paid reviewers promoting the vehicle. Car manufacturers use multi media aggressively to advertise their products. They use paid bloggers that appear to be average people posting to even more aggressively shoot down anyone who post something derogatory against their product. Whatever vehicle you are looking to purchase thoroughly research it using reliable unbiased sources.
The X1 is not built for performance. It's a very practical suv, decently luxurious suv that is not very expensive. I couldn't see the individual review from consumer reports but I do know that BMW is the 9th most reliable car brand and Ford is #18.
Absolutely. My husband can fit back there fine. He is 6'3 and my Cavachon dog also fits with him. I am 5'0 so no issues anywhere in the car. It is sporty and fun to drive. BMW all the way!
I loved this car since it was first introduced, and this one is even nicer! Is there any talks of a diesel version coming? It's too bad there isn't a more powerful engine available, as with the first gen. But then again, the more powerful engine didn't sell well (in Montreal anyways).
it is interesting to tell the differences between mini 4 wheel drive versus new x1 xdrive. I assume it is no difference. so why it is called xdrive? I also considered it is a setback regarding the gearbox
Consumer Reports did not like it nor did the Wall Stree J guy Neil...(forget last name). I think it is probably not any better than the comparable Mazda product but cost a lot more (and is likely less reliable)
I got this as a loaner and I thought BMW dropped the ball here. The loaner was a moderately equipped vehicle, but had the base seats and base stereo -- both of which were utterly terrible. For the price, people should look at a 3 series wagon -- more utility, better quality, better value, more options, etc. The x1 is just overpriced for what it is, but people are infatuated with the "sport utility" form factor, unfortunately. The X1 basically an AWD car with a tall roof and a premium price tag.
$39000 for a base model sub compact crossover..... that is crazy. even more so when you consider how overpriced their options are. you'd be lucky to get a mid level trim for under $45000.
R u kidding about the options? Most car if not all manufacturers charge the same for options when fully loaded. My 2016 x4 costs 48000$ but with all the options it comes to 65000$. So a 17000$ jump, go and test build any car from entry level to a fully loaded one and you'll see that it's at least between 12000-15000$ depending on the brand and the 17000$ from bow includes better fully loaded options. Just a few examples, civic base is 17000$ and a touring is 30000$....
Are you joking? The X1 is one of the best suv's for the money. The A3 and GLA are terrible compared to this. Btw, this is in Canadian dollars in case you didn't know.
***** I can't tell if you own one or not. Or if you think that is worthwhile. I would've said the same thing 20 years ago then. Makes no difference when the GLC, NX, etc. all look dynamic and or high end. Hopefully people expect more of their money than just badging.
***** Oh my lord you need a dose of modesty to keep your ego and that giant sized head of yours in check. Worth and MSRP don't mean the same, but you fail to understand perspective. How pretentious of you to ASSUME the worth of another's livelihood and use that as a means of argument. But please, tell us your income and what you can afford so we can all praise you.
+W-_-T BMW interiors don't change for a reason, people love it. it's infotainment isn't the best in the world for no reason. I've compared new merc interiors and it feels cheap compared to BMW who uses more soft touch materials, great quality leather, and top notch sporty feel.
BMW interior are much more subtle than Mercedes, if that's what you're comparing them to. I think they look really nice and don't try to go over the top.
The Germans are just not doing it for me anymore. Putting aside their ugly front ends, the Lexus RX and NX are so much nicer than anything else out there.

Great design. Much better than the old one.

Sounded like a BMW ad :) But,, hey... new X1 looks really that good..
you are such a great reviewer, you have a great talent that i can only compare with the best of the best. keep it up bro. BTW, do u test ur cars in Toronto or Ottawa, and do you only drive an Audi A7
+Basil Akasheh He is based in BC.
+Marc Bedard really? then why does he review cars with intario plates
+Basil Akasheh I'm based in BC, the plates are from the manufacturer based in Ontario. Yes I drive my A7 and my 1997 Carrera 4S plus my 1987 VW Vanagon...
+Motormouth Canada are u going to review merc glc soon?
+Taras Cool In a few weeks
What's up with the description at the end it says vw Touareg and Volkswagen Touareg.
If you don't mind me asking, where was the video at 0:04 taken? It looks like a beautiful place.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR Q/A'S? Can u review the 2016 accord sport???
What's with Euro vehicles having drop down back headrests (which I prefer, better site lines) while when they hit NA we get standard back headrests which never can get out of the way (without removing them)?
Good reviews! Thanks!

Such good looking car!

great review, thanks!
Better than predecessor, the interior should be great.
it's funny that you mention that the armrest is lower. i hated that. and the shifting. this was enough not to switch from my 328xi.
HD? 1080P?
excellent review
X1 name itself is very embarrasing to drive or show off to friends. They should at least name it X3
Can't wait to see how the Infiniti QX30 stacks up to this.
i clicked the picture on the left, but not link to GLA review???
+Thinh Le Tien Fixed now, check it out.
thank you, work now
Maybe add sitting on 2nd row to your video. Good job.
"it drives like a car", but does it drive like a BMW?
You haven't mentioned much about its driving feel, you didn't even mentioned the gearbox or how the AWD system works :)
it's a front wheel drive car on mini chasis, i doubt it feels like a real bmw.
Dude, not like a bmw but more like your honda civic, both are FWD
@@charlesz3 Never had a Honda Civic...who would? But the 2018 X1 is fun to drive. Sporty and fast!
Pls tell me which one is best diesel or petrol engine??
I am a big fan of your reviews, following every single upload of your awesome videos !!am living in the US, so could you please mention the fuel economy in mpg in addition to kph. Thank you
I'm waiting for the X2
Hey Zack, I was wondering if u could do a 2016 Accord review for us. Pls
Thanks (your the best)
Bmw x1 👌👌

Also, the X1 is the safest suv in it's segment.
How is the space in the rear seat? Can an adult fit back there?
Absolutely. My husband can fit back there fine. He is 6'3 and my Cavachon dog also fits with him. I am 5'0 so no issues anywhere in the car. It is sporty and fun to drive. BMW all the way!

+Jeffco2 Ya, I don't think I've ever seen a 35i model in the wild.
Best review

What year ? 18 or 19
The best review of the bmw x1 2016 ! really smooth
X1 name itself is very embarrasing to drive or show off to friends. They should at least name it X3 Don't you think?
Excellent review! Thank you!
The Mrsp on the website says it starts at $33k yet when I go into the dealer I can't find one (including used) under $41k. Such a lie.
Yup. It's called bait and switch. It is never the price on the website.
Consumer Reports did not like it nor did the Wall Stree J guy Neil...(forget last name).
I think it is probably not any better than the comparable Mazda product but cost a lot more (and is likely less reliable)
The BMW X1 does not look like a shoe any looks much better
X1 name itself is very embarrasing to drive or show off to friends. They should at least name it X3
andy sky they already have an X3... stupid comment
TheSpecialneedskid well they can name it X2
Slimmer Forester XT rims

i'm guessing "much better packaging" for the engine placement is just terrible for DIY mechanics. planned obsolescence ...
wah keren....

+iya tubeA Well, the Canadian dollar has dropped in value, and MY 2016 car prices seem to all have swelled.

Interior is Meh..
*****
What does that have to do with anything I said? So BMW owners are used to bland and uninspired interiors?

and way more reliable
The new Lexus look with the big aggressive grill is a horrible look. I won't buy one. Unfortunate because they really are more reliable.
Damn, BMW has sold out to Soccer moms. No RWD = not a real BMW.
awesome review along with an overview of the competition. after looking at the Merc's c class interior, I feel BMW needs to do something about the black dashboard and buttons.
