      I have a different opinion and I like this monitor even with the matte matrix, if you need a shiny matrix, you have plenty of other monitors from other brands, leave LG alone, it's not your monitor, not this target, you want a shiny one, buy another monitor, leave us the consumers to choose, this monitor is not bad, I won't look at it with a lamp or a microscope to see if something is wrong, the image on the OLED is excellent.
      I understand that you want to have some influence on LG to make a shiny matrix, but LG only makes semi-matte, matte screens.
      You went crazy with this grinder, it's a great show for LG, maybe you'll be able to change LG's decision in the future.

    I've watched a number of videos now on the glossy vs Matte mass debate.....
    I get why some might 'need' matte, & why some prefer gloss.
    It seems to me that what is required is some enterprising manufacturer to offer a glossy screen with a magnetic bezel where a matte cover can be easily attached/detached to let the customer decide depending upon the lighting conditions in their room & what compromises they are willing to accept.

      There won't be one, because this won't do anything, the issue he is having is with the panel itself, not the coating. The new panels from LG use MLA technology, which means you have micro-lenses in front of the pixels. The photos of the "blurry pixels" isn't the mate coating it's the micro lenses, and this is primarily an issue with taking photos of them rather than an actual visible issue.

    I have this monitor now for two days. I can't say that the matt coating (read: in the realm of matt coatings) is anywhere near bad. Comparing it to a Samsung LE32D550 TV (VA 1080P matt) it's better in terms of reflection blocking. Iiyama ProLite B2483HSU (TN 1080P matt) is much worse since it doesn't block anything. Before I was using the AOC Q3279VWF (VA 32" 1440P glossy). The text clarity is better on my LG OLED (disabled cleartype). Off course I can't judge how much better it would have been if it was glossy...
    I definitely do understand the attraction of a glossy panel since I have a LG C1 55" TV.

  • @SlampthChompth
    @SlampthChompth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

    Let me ask you this, what did you think about the matte before you zoomed in 1000x into it?
    I get your frustration about a $1400 monitor having matte, but that said it really isn’t that bad. The daytime appearance destroys the QD because it stays black better, and at night you literally can’t even tell it’s matte. Heck I can hardly tell during the daytime.
    As someone who also prefers gloss over matte, I gotta say you’re definitely exaggerating how bad it actually is. It’s still the best monitor on the market IMO.

    • @thedisplayguy
      @thedisplayguy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      If I thought it “wasn’t that bad” I wouldn’t risk destroying the monitor to buff it out. It looks really bad, and it’s easily noticeable at any reasonable viewing distance. I can even spot the grain across my room.
      I also heavily disagree that it’s the best monitor. Aside from the grainy coating it has a number of firmware issues I would consider to be pretty severe.
      The QD OLED options right now are superior in almost every way minus ambient light handling.

I just got the lg 34gs95qe OLED ultrawide 800r curve 240hz monitor for 750$ on sale from amazon and it is absolutely amazing! The matte is not as bad as i thought it would be like at all. Picture is not washed at all by the coating. Perfectly clear as expected from oled. Nice and bright too! The matte coating on my previous asus ultrawide xg349c IPS was way worse and you can def tell when the screen is off cause the matte makes it like a washed out black when its turned off. Again QD oled is difficult to impossible to clean, it smudges easily! The QD oleds are not glossy either. They are like matte, at best semi-glossy to say. But I want to buy the lg 45” oled and do the same thing and remove the film. Haven’t seen anyone do it yet. While the dwf I’ve seen quite a few even over the year and a half ago when I did mine there was a lot of people who did it already which made removing mine easier. But I don’t know how thick the glass / plastic is under the film on the lg. on the Alienware it’s thick and I used a razer blade and not one scratch on the screen under the film. It’s perfect. But I’ve seen people remove the film on lg tv’s are shatter them because of how thin they are under the film.

    There always seems to be this thing monitor manufacturers do to destroy a good monitor. Almost all monitors I saw over the last decades have had some kind of dealbreaker for me. It's like they do it on purpose. You see the perfect monitor: and then it's CURVED. Then you see another perfect monitor: and then it has a grainy coating. Then another great monitor: no, it has non-standard RGB so text is hard to read. Or burn-in. Or price far too high.
    Maybe I'm being picky (probably) but I just can't unsee these problems. Just make this damn (near) perfect monitor! We're getting there, but we're not there yet!

    As the owner of a glossy LG OLED TV, I sure as heck do not want a monitor like that. I love the TV but it's basically unusable during the day unless I close all my curtains. Not sure how bad the matte really is but I refuse to buy that LG OLED monitor because it has a fan. Hopefully something comes out which improves upon the current 32" 4K OLED options.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      From my experience whether matte or not, if there's windows in the room they should never face it. My current system does as there's not really anywhere else good to put it with power, and even though I have matte coatings you easily see the glare and completely ruins blacks. I basically leave the blackout curtains in the room closed all the time because of it.
      Basically the difference between them is, do you prefer sharp glares or your entire screen having lifted blacks. To me sharp glares are far easier to ignore much like how many phones today have holes punched into them. Not everyone views it the same like how people grow used to looking at something at lower resolutions and stop noticing the loss. You will get used to it eventually, but I personally don't want to go through that.

      I respectfully disagree. I’m a proud owner of my LG C2 42, and its coating is the only reason why I haven’t upgraded to a “proper” monitor yet. I understand that not everyone’s rooms are light-controlled, but for my use case of late-night gaming, it’s absolutely perfect.

      It’s been done already. For example I completely removed it on my Alienware 34” dwf over a year ago and even made a little video / slideshow on my channel about it. And let me tell you. It was worth it. The colors pop like you wouldn’t believe. Hate the film it comes with. It was scratched out of the box and every time I cleaned it I made it worse. To the point where it was hazy and foggy and was going to throw the monitor away but decided to try and remove it and it ended up working out in my favor. I want to buy a 45” lg and do the same thing. I haven’t seen a single lg 45” with the ar film removed. Don’t care about being the first but just want to make sure it can be done like on the qd-oled panels can.

      I used a razer blade on my dwf 34” qd-oled. And the wet paper towel trick does work. When I removed my film over a year and a half ago there was people who already removed the film before I did and they l did the wet paper towel trick and it worked. Reason I just said f it and went for it but used the razer blade way. Came off in chunks and the screen under the film is thick. Almost like a piece of glass “maybe it is”. The razer blade didn’t leave a single scratch on the screen under the film. But I’ve seen people try to remove the lg ar film on the tv’s and shatter the screens under the film. So maybe it doesn’t work on the lg screens like it does on the Alienware screens.
