What gear do you need to start in 2024 and half? Let's see, for video and photography, use your phone (assuming it's you bought it in the last few years). Cost, FREE. For software, use Davinci Resolve, also completely free. You may need a gimble or tripod for your phone, but you can get a fairly good one for around $100. The last thing you need is audio. A cheap lapel mic can be purchased for $100 as well. So, final price -- $200. I realize this video is two years old, but recommending Adobe Premiere Pro for a beginner is just silly when a much better product can be had for free, even back when this video was released.
Thanks for this excellent video. While talking about support, would you be able to recommend a video monopod with a fluid and/or drag system instead of just the tripod? I wanted to avoid the tripod initially, considering I move around a lot, sometimes.
“If you wanna jump into the dslr world” *recommends only mirrorless cameras* This is also very confusing for beginners. You always use your wide angle lens than your zoom lens, but then your wide angle lens itself is also a zoom lens. Ive owned 2 already and end up selling them because i dont use them much for my work
One of the best videos I’ve watched for someone considering what to buy on a low budget. For a while I’ve enjoyed taking photographs as a hobby and have decided I would like to try out some videography. I own a Canon 550D (aka Rebel T2i if sold in the Americas) along with some Canon lenses (Canon 50mm 1:8, Tamron 18mm - 270mm and a Canon zoom 10mm-18mm) so very encouraging to listen to your advice on getting started with what you have. I will be looking to source some of the other equipment detailed and will take a look at the courses you are offering once I’m set up. I’m lucky enough to own a iPad Pro and wondered what your views are on purchasing Luma Pro as a video editor app as a value for money one time purchase at £29.99?
Brilliant video! I'm just starting out to do travel photography and video clips for online news/magazines. I've got a Canon 7D with a Tamron lens. Is it good enough to start out with? Or, is it too outdated now? Thank you!
Great overview and helpful for those starting out. Your courses are great! Only one question I have is when trying to keep costs low why did you suggest Premiere? I used Premiere Pro for over 15 years, going through all their updates (as well as monthly subscription costs going up) and increasingly computer-intensive processing only to realize there was a better alternative, and it is free. I switched to DaVinci Resolve about three years ago and in my opinion a much better editor. And did I say free? I would suggest considering Resolve as an alternative. Again, great help in your video and Premiere is a great choice too.
I'll second that! DaVinci resolve is fantastic, to work in. The free version is missing about 5% of the features that come with the paid version. It will not hurt you to give it a try. :)
He did say in the video that it’s “the best editor we have used so far”. He later went on to suggest FCPX which is a one time payment thing and DaVinci Resolve, both the paid and free version. I’ve been using Premiere for about 5 years now and I recently started dabbling in DaVinci Resolve. It’s been an uphill battle for me as I’m still not used to the interface.
@@blaklytstudios yes, that is a fair point. but if they were recommending a list of what beginners should be using, shouldn't they give a balanced and objective recommendation instead of what "they have used"? My point is, premiere pro costs a lot of money to some... and even without debating which app is best, paying for a subscription can be a huge commitment for beginners that are clueless about the potential of the app. I'd rather just use an iMovie and try to master it first than paying for something I don't even know what I'm getting into... I'm saying this because I was a beginner a few years back and I never get premiere because of the price wall itself. Later found out there's another app called DR17, ended up learning editing from only using the cutting tool to using fusion and color grading. Only now that I'm actually considering paying for the pro version :) I hope it makes sense...
What's crazy is that there are people out there who are beginners with NO BUDGET!!! They can get whatever they want at any time they want to achieve their needs wants and dreams
No hate. I love the fact your going over the basic essentials for when you start filmmaking yet the shutter speed in the video is too high 😬. Rate the camera selection tho not great for freelance but still good choice for story telling.
Hello, i'm not a professional, but from my experiment, editing work need a powerful cpu, so you have to get something new if you have a high budget (intel/ryzen), and a minimum of 16 gb of ram, and ssd storage, and a gpu. For a laptop, i used to edit on laptop with filmora software, it was so easy and i used to it, it worked very well, laptop is comfortable and you can take it out with not like the desktop. If you're a beginner the recommended cores of cpu are 6 cores and 12 threads, you still can buy a used setup with i9-9900k with 16gb of rams and a gpu(1660/2070...) For a lowered price if you don't have enough budget.

Very helpful video, thank you 🙏 .
Other important expenses would be a computer to edit the footage on and decent headphones
Brilliant video! I'm just starting out to do travel photography and video clips for online news/magazines. I've got a Canon 7D with a Tamron lens. Is it good enough to start out with? Or, is it too outdated now? Thank you!
this course is amazing
Capcut has a great desktop version too
Thank you
Excellent video! Very informative. Great tips for beginner filmmakers.
Thank u very much. U showed me the way

this helped so much like really
that's what I was thinking. Davinci Resolve is used by pros and FREE. Why would he recommend Premiere that costs beginners a lot of money
I would surely be joining your course sir when i think i am ready .
Are you ready?
Thank You, such a great informational video
I liked the response 😅😅
Lighting before Gimbal. Always.
Thank you for laments terms
Amazing Place to learn...
Want full course...
i already have my SL2 i got 4 years ago, that saves me some money i guess
What's crazy is that there are people out there who are beginners with NO BUDGET!!! They can get whatever they want at any time they want to achieve their needs wants and dreams
You don't need film school, just watch good movies for the things you should do and bad films for the things not to do.
I live in Africa how do I get to shop those equipments
Very educative
I’m interested in film making
What you think about the canon 80d? Should I work with it or upgrade
I just got a sony zv1f spent 200 rigging it and another 300 for a dji mic and a few lights
Great video.
5:24 why don't you mention the Panasonic lumix camera? It has 4k recording. Its also a low budget camera right? Any specific reason? 🤔
Does the $97 include everything? All the packages? Everything? No upsell to get everything? If it does, I’m in!
I wish so much to have found this video 2 yearsd ago when i was looking for this exact thing. I would have gotten a T2i or a ESO M50.
No hate. I love the fact your going over the basic essentials for when you start filmmaking yet the shutter speed in the video is too high 😬. Rate the camera selection tho not great for freelance but still good choice for story telling.
Hi. Just want to know, for the editing part, a laptop or desktop would be better for beginners and which brand would you recommended? Thanks
@@shamimedia4019 Thanks. That was helpful.
If you have a budget. Go for Asus gaming laptops (Asus G14 / G15 and more) or m1 macbooks. Otherwise build build your own PC
A MacBook with the m1 chip is honestly all you need I have one myself and it runs through Adobe like buttteeerrrr and they are so much cheaper now compared to other laptops or desktops it’s definitely worth the buy
@@allenmonge7922 Mr.Allen, i appreciate it a lot, actually i don't have any experiment with apple devices and softwares from before , i can't help with it.
What about the computer I use? What laptop should be used? I was thinking an apple desktop but idk what kind or what would be the best option 🥴
I would recommend a MacBook Pro. I have a really old one that still runs very well and can do some complex stuff, though I will be upgrading soon. A laptop at least, since you can take it anywhere.
Hello, a drone?. Get the drone first. OMG, this guy.
Wow! Thank you so much!
