Having seen the S1000RR dispatch the Veyron and Aventador without breaking a sweat, the last segment really soured me to this video.
And this was a HP4!

Gursheesh Singh I think you emphasized the point. A Veyron needs time and space to run down the bike from a standing start and there is no way they would be stupid enough to have a video showing a M135i smoking a Veyron off the line.

+Nick Kluger He knew the turn was coming up didn't want to be throttled all the way up on the turn. If he took off from the start line he would have been going to fast for the first turns. He knew he would have plenty of time to make up for it later the acceleration on a bike is ridiculous.

Yes I do . You can have all advanced tech in the world... Still ...It is worthless if you do not know how to use it... The bike lost it and it was fair... Only ehm ...."someone" would call it the bikes fault. He surely is an advanced rider to be fair but... Letting him sit onto something new "clearly" with no introduction ... Its not riders or bikes fault. This HP4 was not even interested or correctly setted up. Also I do ow a car with M1 performance...privately from me "in your dreams!"

They did it for the show clearly, otherwise bike would disappear after start. Like this they made it little bit more interesting, but I guess we all knew what will happen.

hp4 is 0-62mph in slightly over 2 seconds and the 135 i does that in 5.1 seconds. there is absolutely no way in hell the 135i would have beaten the hp4 to the first corner if the rider was use to the bike!

entertaining to watch until i saw 4:57 up until 5:30 is utter bullshit scripted scenario... the car need 5 sec. from 0-60mph and the bike does it under 3 sec. ... bike accelerates harder than a Veyron Vitesse, but gets smoked by a 135i ? sure thing ;)

0-200 km/h -> 18,1 sec
Yamaha FZ6 Fazer:
0-200 km/h -> 15,8 sec.

I own a HP4....there is no way that any car will take me on pull. No chance at all for this 135i doing it.
Omg Fifth Gear everything was so staged except the slalom. A bike brakes faster on high speed then a 30 000£ BMW car. And the race lap was also so bullshit. It looked like there was a good 200-300 meters of straight road before the first corner and the bike should get in around 3 seconds to 100 km/h even with a poor start. On a really perfect one about 2.6 seconds with the HP4
Actually the braking test most likely wasn't staged. Cars can transfer much more force to the road than a bike because the roadside surface area of 4 tires is much bigger than that of 2 ( or 1 in case of a nose wheelie ).
the problem is that a bike is much taller relative to the wheelbase than a car so it will stoppie and that's not good for braking distances
Andreas Vogler There is a video from "Grip" also with an M4 and the 2015 S1000RR and there, the bike wins the breaking by quite a bit...
That's an M4 with M-Brakes and wider tires...
mcbrite you are right. I was taught that a car stops faster than a bike but it doesn't. Esp superbikes like the hp4 stop dead way earlier due to better tires and break system. There is also a test with the HP4 vs Mclaren P1 and Porsche 918. The bike outruns the cars and continues to accelerate faster until it hits the rev limiter in the highest gear. Only then the Hypercars catch up. So except for the slalom we are sold only bs in this video. Wondering why the bike driver is up for this kind of staging with his name. I'd be too embarrased to do this crap
Bikes don't stop faster than a sports car it's all about contact patch bikes breaking is mostly front tire so one contact patch but two for the car and each from tires on the car are massively wider

Mark cbay That's completely incorrect. Brakes have enough power to block the wheel completely at basically any speed, so the weight doesn't matter. Engine on the other hand, doesn't have enough power to slip the tires at all speeds, thus lower weight helps.
I have a hard time understanding the third test-- when they took off together.. there is no way he wouldn't have just peeled and took pole position.
It's set up. Bike does 0-130mph in 6.5secs.

Yeah, that is definitely not right. That is maybe the fastest bike money can buy against a fairly quick but far from supersonic car. He should have basically walked her on every challenge except possibly braking. I'm not sure any one of these challenges was exactly honest.
it's not a question of which vehicle has better brakes... A car with 2x the traction (not considering the noticeable increase in tire size from moto-car) will invariably stop faster than a motorcycle, especially considering that a car won't do a frontflip if you brake too hard.
EDIT: After the race portion of the video, I have decided that nothing in this video is real. M135i 0-60=5.1s. There is absolutely no way that a turbo-six station wagon could have pulled 60m on a bike without any corners (5:06).
+Lucas Boyden Weight is a factor when braking as well, but yes, the brake test I can certainly buy the car winning that one. The rest....clearly a set up to make the car look better than it is.

It was a little bit wasn't it. However having read the scarily numerous 'bikes brake way quicker than cars' comments on here, it was probably needed. There is even one comment saying his rider training instructor told him bikes brake quicker than cars. I hope those nuggets wear really good gear.

i sugest that in another car vs bike match ,both have the same acceleration like for egzample kawasaki er6 f 72 hp vs for egzample nissan 350 z with 300 hp if straight be niot to long both have similar acceelration from 80-100 km/h up to around 160-170 km/h, or kawasaki ninja 300 39 hp vs 160 hp fiat 500 abarth etc and do some test about which can go quicker around corner but on dry and wet and both must have the same tires or very similar .

Previous to the h2 the zx14r was the fastest accelerating production bike followed closely by the hp4.On track the hp4 would walk all over the z14r.
No surprises here. But damn that car still looks like a hell of a machine for the money...

I feel like Chaz Davies should be kinda ashamed getting involved in their scripted BS.
The general opinion on here is that the hp4 should of beaten the car to the first corner. Whilst that is correct chas Davies the bike rider bogged it down at the start hence his late get away, he was using the launch control which as they said earlier was causing some problems. But had he of launched manually then for sure the bike would of beaten the car easily to the first corner and disappeared.
I have this 2013 S1000 rr and the traction on has to be kept on slick mode other wise its very interfering. But Chaz is a pro, he should've disabled the traction and launch control. Traction control is good for beginners or if its wet and cold.
How can a BMW HP4 (199kg/193hp) accelerate slower than the BMW M135 that weights 1440kg with 320hp ?

Protip, Fifth Gear : If you ever want to pull out some shitty script like this again. Get the rider to make an "error" and stall the bike. That's the only way that car could actually have that big of a lead going into the first corner. Even a modest Duke 690 will out-accelerate the M135i.
I love the M135i, it's going to be the next car I buy. But you'd have to be delusional to think the bike would ever really be that slow from a standing start. Shame on you 5th Gear.

Yeah it may be fastest but its not all about speed, i could make a 600cc go 380km/h but it would take ages to reach that speed, the more speed it reaches with the same amount of bhp, the slower it will accelerate...
They guy riding the HP4 didn’t push the bike to the limit. He was barely leaning on the corners. Should’ve got a MotoGP rider.
Yes, this comparison is effed up, but another thing that bothered me, she did her first test, with him in the passenger seat. I was expecting her to be sitting behind him, also wearing protective gear, during his test.
The start was a fluff as the bike should have been faster?
The s1000RR's (Hp4 and original) Have a bit of a delay with the throttle reaction - it can sometimes feel like you are about to stall on launch and need to give it more beans. It is something to do with keeping the throttle smooth on a bike so powerful. It's a very strange feeling & my old CBR used to have it too. So it may have just been that :)
BUT of course, the HP4 would have knobbed the M at the start by a long shot even with the delay, so there was some fixing done (BMW vs BMW - they want to sell both, after all!)
Of course on the slalom test the bike is narrow and it barely needs to turn, that is why it wins. The car is much more agile on curvy roads and the better brakes also count. On a straight line the bike is much faster obviously, especially after like 60mph, because the grip is not a problem anymore.
You must be dumb if you think that car is better than the hp4 at corners...

For fairness, Vicki should have been pillion rider on the bike, seeing as the M135i had to drag a passenger around.

Man that HP4 is a dream machine... I know superbikes are notoriously slow off the line but it looks like the launch control really let it down on this day -- far too aggressive. I'm sure that a rider with his talents would have been better off turning it off and doing his own wheelie control.

I'm not a professional racer unlike that guy and I have STILL not been let down by the launch control in over 25 attempts. It works every single time without fail. All you have to do is pin the throttle and hang on for dear life.
My triumph 675 triple would toast that car in a line, yet the 1 litre super bike ridden by "future world champion" loses to 1st corner.... really......

More like a SBK machine and even those are around 200hp, little bit more. When the rules allowed for 1000cc prototypes, they produced in excess of 240hp

For real though, I've seen Guy Martin give an F1 car a decent run for its money on an HP4. Given that these are both BMW products, I can't quite fathom the conflict of interest in letting the bike trounce the 1'er.

The brake challenge isn't fair at all. It's obvious that u can brake with 4 weeks much better than with 2. If u would brake with the full brake power on a bike, I would never be sure that the biker isn't crashing on the ground.

This video, is clearly directed to who doesn't know anything about bikes. That hp4, has almost more horsepower than it weighs, and is faster in a 1/4 mile than a million+ pounds Bugatti veyron. If the biker would've ridden the bike as its full potential, he would've won before the crappy m135 had finished the first straight
