I'll never forget my '13 S1KRR. Somehow BMW mixed brutal power with svelte, smooth control. After a tune and full titanium akro with MRA windscreen and new filter, it was even faster than stock, trapping 150+ mph in the 1/4. For a basically stock bike that was wicked fast back then. Amazing bike that deserves a place in motorcycle history for bringing out the next generation of super bikes.
I have the regular HP4. I don't have the heart to sell it. one of the best bikes I have ever ridden, both on the street and on the track. the last real superbike
The HP4 was the "legacy" of the start of the HP series, the HP2. I owned one of the first HP2's and after some tuning it had 125hp and 125nm. Wet weight was 182kg. Never had an insane bike like that, with supermoto wheels it tried to kill me every day 😁
Finally a dream ride!!! If you see this comment pls consider putting cbr 919 TT100 EVO blade here on the series,i think it would melt a heart of many, and really, you are the only ones that can do it! Chris,James and Bike Specialist, thank you for everything so far and of course thank you in advance! Stay safe guys
Now owning a 23 S1000rr vs my 13 HP4 it’s night and day. I love the tech on the newer ones. Color screen, phone, Navi, music. Beside that the HP4 is a very unique design, I should’ve kept them both but we had to part ways!!
I looked at buying one of these 2 years back I think the shop was asking 14k but buy then the 2022 Gen4 was out just for a little more money 19k I purchase that instead, which is and will be my forever bike it is mental and I love it. Ride safe peeps 😎👍
Awesome video! I Love the enthusiasm. I remember the first one I saw at the BMW dealership. When the salesman revved it - literally every hair on the back of my neck stood up and I got chill bumps. Raw power. such a beautiful bike. The English countryside where you were riding is amazing. Best!
if you're never going to be racer the only thing that matters is how it makes you feel. I have the regular hp4 from new and will never sell it. It owns my motorcycling heart ❤
Im in the states and bought one new in 2013. Here it was called the HP4 Competition. I put 13K on it, then sold it off. Just bought a M1000XR Competition. Im older now and appreciate the riding position, but still miss the HP4
As interesting as HP4 is the "HP" for me will always be the Boxer series Enduro Sport and Megamoto. Especially the sport that actually took part in the Le Mans 24 endurance race. I think they are the coolest bikes BMW Motorrad ever produced.
HaHaHa...yeah...what do you do when that happens...slow down and nervously watch the mirrors or pin it! Great stuff Chris..dont reckon theyd catch you mate....
I recall riding one when it was current and much preferring my RSV4. The BMW didn’t feel planted in a corner by comparison. Given, my RSV had a cartridge kit and TTX shock. Modern adaptive suspension has come a long way since.
Yeah like there was a fraction of a delay for the suspension to react. A proper set-up traditional fork still feels better. But the glory of the electronic type is worth the trade in my opinion
First time i learned who Chris was, was when he took the HP4 on a runway and beat Liam Dorran in a DS3 Rallycrosscar and Peter Sutcliff in a Ariel Atom V8. Since them i'm a instant fan of the HP4 and Chris😎
this was my grail bike. I finally found one in perfect condition with a late series serial number. unfortunately it didn’t last long for where I am in my riding journey. I’ve always been a sports bike rider but somehow this bike just felt way too fast for the street. I almost never had to go past 2nd gear and that became boring very quickly. riding position is also more aggressive than gen1 s1k which I had before this. vibration on the handle bars and pegs, super hot engine burning between my legs… all said it is still my favourite sport bike and probably will always be, I’m just past sport bikes at this point..
I remember thinking there would never be a faster bike than my K5 GSXR RR... until BMW absolutely annihilated it. This is TRULY my dream bike right here.
Fantastic film, as always. I'd just like to ask, were the Japanese bikes still operating under the gentleman's agreement? Not that the HP wasn't a big step, but as I understand, with BMWs urging, the Japanese bikes were limiting their top speeds and, I imagine, hp and all that goes with that.... just a thought. Ride safe.... Oh, BTW, just picked up a gen 1 675 daytona on your recommendation. ... thank you very very much, it's sublime for no money at all. Bloomin love it
That looks and sounds like a fantastic sports bike to ride.. fast and at times a little scary which is what all sports bike riders want. Having said that, I’ll stick with my Gen 4 RR with all its gadgetry that makes me feel like a better rider than I am and regularly save my bacon..
When you brought up the wheelie control not being good I thought you meant it just doesn’t work. Like with current wheelie control it isn’t a guarantee. It can work too good and hover about a foot off the ground or it will flash the traction light but go up to balance point. That is with clutch ups though. They’re probably more consistent with power wheelies
Nothing against Bikeworld. Love the content. I just don’t recommend Bemoto. After covering me last year for a multi bike policy they wouldn’t renew my policy even though nothing had changed. Thankfully found a competitive quote from another company. Just annoying to have to go through the faff. Thanks Bemoto 😡
You mentioned early on in the video that the honda fireblade was the best road oriented sports bike, but I beg to differ, as arguably that mantle goes to the latter (E and F) kawasaki zx9R models. The fireblade and gixxer thou have always been considered to be very road-biased sports bikes throughout the early 00s to the present day, and rightly so, but the zx9r was/is criminally underrated and forgotten compared to its rivals. It never had the handling prowess on track like its contemporaries, but for road riding, it was the perfect all-rounder! It would be great if you could get your hands on an E1, E2, or F1, F2/F2p model and review the hell out of it!
What about the HP4 Race guys ? I think bmw made another incredible special bike but with its huge price tag and track only use - it didn’t gain much popularity.
I have the 2017 s1000rr, that was based on this one, and I think it still the best sport bike BMW made, so far. There are newer models, with more tech but not as reliable. Also I love the asymmetrical face.
ok, just started watching, this... "I've got absolute beauty for us this time" , come on, really ? We are speaking BMW, the ugliest bikes ever, and this one in particular, being the single ugliest sports bike ever. Sorry, just my opinion.
If this bike was made today it would have 35 M bagdes.
🤣🤣🤣so true
Just no world championships (yet)

Great show. Im happiest on a screaming 600 and no electronics. You need Chris levels of skills for a 200 hp. Nuts. Brilliant video.

HP4 will always be very special, even moreso than today's superbikes. For favorite of the era, though...hard for me not to go with the 1199.

Always thought the RSV4 of the same era got a bit overshadowed but, arguably more character than the BM

"Extended re-test" - is that the one where you have to do two "round the block/examiner jumps out" emergency stops...?
May be showing my age here...
What I really see now is how much uglier bikes have gotten in such a short time frame. Thanks for bringing this segment back again!
Bemoto won’t even quote me 💀

Sure, such a game changer by BMW that it won precisely NOTHING against the little Italian beast that was the RSV4! 😅

i also agree that that bike is the best that came out of bmw. I hope someday I can get my hands (legs) on one.
I've got a 17 single R love it. If I rode sports bikes I'd definitely got the RR
I could never get over the goofy headlights on these mingers.
The current bike looks so much better.
Nope !
Bemoto cancelled my policy randomly because they realised they made an error on their end. My first experience with them could hv been better :/
I hope you charged them an admin fee for changing it.
I just wish they had made the headlights symmetrical.
A few would agree with you. These lights are iconic.
Same mate. The only visually negative part of the bike in my opinion haha!
The point of being a bmw is to have asymmetrical lights
