Hi. Everything was made with Polycarb (Lexan glass). It is super strong (more than galss) and scratch resistant (but not as much as real glass). I made molds and formed the headlights in the oven.
@@BroughBuilt Thank you! As a life-long McLaren F1 fan, this project is a huge inspiration.
@@BroughBuilt Have you had issues with scratching on the windshield? How bad is the scratching in general on the polycarb parts?
Cool af!
What did you use for the headlights?
Thanks!
For the large beams I used the smaller headlights from a VW golf mk1 and the smaller ones was special order from Hella. I made the rest from polycarbonate that I shaped with a mold in an oven.
@@BroughBuilt Thx!
I was looking at BMW E28 as they have a large and a small light.
Some claim that McLaren used BMW E34 headlights but they are same size dipped/high so they're wrong.
I had a tough time finding the correct lenses. The inner ones are surprisingly small.
Did you build the chassis too?
Yes. But I incorporated many donor parts from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and even Ford.
You need to make a kit car from this that takes a LS motor and make some money.
I wonder if there will be a market thou
did you put the Carbon fiber directly on the Aluminum?
Yes. I lightly sanded and cleaned the aluminium and then bonded the carbon to it with resin. So far it's holding up perfect
@@BroughBuilt are you worried about galvanic corrosion? Or did you do something to combat this?
Does the break's ever over heat?
Not yet Juan. Maybe one day we'll put them to the test around a racetrack and see how they do...
Hello i like your build man
Now i am asking you if you could build me a polestar 1
Thanks man! I also love the Polestar1 but I'm not so familiar with hybrid technology... Yet😉
This is truly incredible!!! Do you have an Instagram account?
#Broughbuilt
On the real bro, I am a aviation mechanic and I think I can swing it. Would you be willing to share how to make this? Of course with a payment.
Sure man! I can give you all the info you need. Is there anything specific you're looking for? Or just the process how I built it?
@@BroughBuilt Appreciated brother. I am just baffled by the accuracy of the panels... Mechanically and electrically I think I can hold it on my own. But did you refer to some molds or something? Or it's everything by eye? Anything digital? Like a full render of the vehicle?
I actually went old school with the build. Used references I got from the net, other media and even 1/18 scale models and cross checked everything till I was happy with the results.
Using aluminium and carbon fibre for body structure really helped with keeping everything stiff and straight which helped a lot with getting fitment of doors etc. perfect
@@BroughBuilt yeah I figured the most accurate way to make measurements and to have the picture in your mind would be a high quality scale car. I'll hit you up a message if get into any dead stops in the making of this beast
Good luck man. Keep me updated
Lekker
What's the retail on one of those?
The real road going F1s are going for plus $20mil and I can only assume the LM and GTR cars are even more expensive because of their heritage and scarcity.
This one cost a fraction of that though😜
@@BroughBuilt bro i'd like one for myself. Think we can work something out?
@@tupacshakur5349 I'm glad if you like the car so much! you're welcome to dm me on my Instagram account.
How much does it weigh?
Hi. It came in at 1180kg, with a full tank of fuel😜
@@BroughBuilt very light for road car👍👍
What was the chassis donor for this?
Everything built from scratch. I did however use suspension and brake components from BMW and Mercedes Benz
Hi there I'm in south Africa I've built a corbra and a few e30's how much would one cost me complete
I'm also in SA! Pretoria to be exact. You should come around and we could talk if you got a project planned...
@@BroughBuilt if we can build this for less than a Half a Bar 071 892 8471 we have a deal
@@BroughBuilt let's get incontact I've a 750li v12 engine maybe we can do something pls call me on 071 892 8471 i stay in bassiona Jhb south
Did you have to get the car licensed from McLaren?
No. It is registered as a home built car
@@BroughBuilt hello sir. Greetings from distant Lithuania. Can this car be driven everywhere, just like a normal car?
225mph??? Isn't that a lot??
If only you could launch a "Factory Five" type operation and begin to hire employees and produce this in some limited fashion. However, McLaren would bark at you.
Haha I don't think McLaren will like it very much 😂
You South African my bru!
Yes. Al die pad!😂
I hope you built it better then they do. McLaren is a death trap since the 50s. They suck. Always catch fire or malfunction. How they've lasted this long is a conspiracy! Seriously.
Make me one! ❤
